Christmas decorations 2011

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

not sure about relief - do not like the pull down ladder to the attic which is a hassle when you are carrying more than one box. just glad it is over

Thomaston, CT

Cannot get into my attic, because I can't get the ladder down.....all Christmas stuff is stored in the basement...those stairs are scary enough!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Ugh I HATE that pull down into the attic, the opening isn't wide enough for some of the boxes and they always get hung up on it

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

we don't have room for a pull down.. wish we did.. we have to prop up a rickety wooden ladder cut to fit the spot.. and it's on our stairs.. not safe at all.. and when you step in the attic you have to step over the sheet rock only spot to the rafters.. like a foot and a half.. nothing like doing Pilates to get up there... Randy will go up and I slide the heavy boxes up the ladder to him.. and they can't be too wide or they won't fit through the 3 foot opening.. Randy knows when he buys more bins if they fit or not

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No pull-down here either. Have to go through the hole in one of the closets. Short attic too. Have to walk like Quasimodo. Kills my back.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

We had a GREAT attic in our old house, it was in the garage my dad and neighbor had built, actually had the state police do a stake out up there.....if we put in a bathroom could have rented it out, would have been an awesome mancave
I need to scan the pic I'll show ya later

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i had a walk in attic before it was nice, could have made a nice room up there - i have put up scraps of plywood here so there is not to much walking the beams going on, could use more - have been using my plywood scraps to protect the bed of our friend who lets me lug stone from her yard here - i can deal with the beams for that :)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

my mom's attic would be a great studio apartment if you can get any furniture up there .. narrow stairs & a curve at the top.. getting in the door you have to do a 180 and step up.. but it's huge up there.. great play room when we were kids

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I would love that!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah, me too I love those old houses that have the HUGE 3rd floor attics

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yeah, tht would def be part of my dream house design.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

there are closets up there and we used to be able to run behind them and hide.. in one way out the other.. she had chests up there full of clothes .. lots of fun as a kid .. the size of that attic .. trying to think of how many of my rooms add up to that.. bet you two of my dinning room / kitchens.. and maybe 2 bedrooms.. just massive .. but the floor plan of her apartments are messed up.. the kitchen has to be 9 x 9 ... small counter next to the sink and that's it.. and strange curved wall between that and dinning room .. tiny bathroom .. and huge living room.. it has a barn shape.. so the rafters are high up there too

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm wishing for that kind of attic now, too. We enter through tiny doors in three places upstairs, and no headroom.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

I've mentioned before that we have given to an artificial tree, which we display on the upstairs balcony and then wrap it in plastic (with all the decorations still in place) and then push it 15 feet thru the attic door up there. Never thought I'd miss a real tree. Leaving for South Jersey now. Just heard that my DD's baby wants to be born today!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh me too.. our decorations would be no problem with that size attic... drive safe.. best wishes Teri!!

Thomaston, CT

Let us know when the baby arrives, Terri......my Mom has a walk up attic, but the beams are too low to do anything with it......Garret's attic will be the girls' haven when he gets around to finishing it off....2 bedrooms, a bath, & a study nook are up there.......

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Good luck to your daughter Teri! Keep us posted...

We have a walk up attic, old but a good sound floor and stores all my junk. Good thing since we have no closet space and our basement is rather like a mud dungeon. Don't think at our age now we will ever convert it but would have made a nice big bedroom or man cave.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

On CNN they said last night that we can't have mancaves anymore. Too 2011. Maybe 2012 is time for womancaves???

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Funny how things go out of "style" so fast!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Picked up some good sized Christmas balls for outdoor trees @ Target. Will take a picture later, think I should of gotten more of this size and some a little bigger. Doubt they'll be anymore when I finally get a chance to go back.:(

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

we checked right after christmas here.. target had nothing

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh actually I think we picked up some light sets there

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I wanted a couple of sets of lights and every store I checked had taken the lights out, or were sold out. I don't see how they could of when everything else had an abundance of items.
Do they store them I wonder?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah our Target was disappointing too...even during Christmas was not impressed with selection this year

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

walmart was disappointing too .. has to be lame if Randy and I walk out with nothing.. LOL

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

there was a pic from the Walmart in Woodbridge...they have a TON of stuff, looks like it was just restocked the shelves are so packed, I walked in the one closest to me today saw the lines and walked right out

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

we went to K-mart not far from here.. right after christmas.. they didn't have anything good for lights.. but I did buy a silly dancing dog that wiggles it's butt like Hope & Riley

:)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

and the Kmart near us had an AWESOME Christmas shop....oh yeah I should go check there to see if they have anything left

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

well mostly everything is unhooked but the tree, arch and the lights on the house.. have to pack this stuff up first before we do more.. so sad out there already

Thomaston, CT

Yes, too bare until the flowers take over....

Took decorations down today too

Inside kids took their trees down and I removed all the ornaments and put them away from the family tree, hubby took off the lights and dug the hole outside, but didn't get the tree out there yet.

I gathered up all the decorations from around the house and have them in the living room, need to bring the bins down from the attic. I leave up more of the winter type decorations like most of my snowmen and then in 2 weeks will do my V-day decorating

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

OK, these are the Christmas balls I got for outside. I took one of Brian's coke bottles for size comparison.

I should of gotten the next size up too but I was too late when I finally got back there. OH BTW...it wasn't @ TARGET it was @ K-MART and they were 60% or 75% off. I paid either .79 or .49 cents a piece. Those were the only colors they had.
