Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Chat with friends..

mulege, Mexico

crissy, my take on your step-father is that he's panicked about your mother, in denial and clueless about how to help. In other words, a man. She's probably been the caretaker and he's not likely to want to take over that role or to be good at it if he tried to. One of the best lessons I've learned is not to argue with a person who is behaving unreasonably. It won't do anything but make them worse. Since they are not in a position to move now, your mom could start to agree with him, or at least not argue with him. The old, "Yes, dear, whatever you say" approach. Then she can take care of herself and not waste time and energy fretting about things that aren't going to happen NOW anyway. Let him make all the plans he wants. If he just wants to yell and argue it might be interesting to see what he does if she starts to agree with him.

I've been alternately cleaning house all morning. Have gotten quite a bit done. Still seems like a drop in the bucket. However, I take it a chunk at a time. Lots of dust here in the desert, especially with five dogs. I could do nothing but clean and it would still never be done. I will soon have enough cleared to be able to do some sewing.

My heating pad died and my arm is hunched up. Not much pain but I have to let go of holding it up by my ear.

hugs, katie

Good suggestion Katie..might just work!

I'm finding same with Sailor and 2 kitties and I don't have to contend with the desert..must wash upper floors at least twice a day...with Sailor trying to grip the floor as her hind end is giving her trouble I see scratches all over the floor, almost tempted to wait to replace until I have no dog instead of planning for early January..

3 hot baths, 2 Tylenol 3 and still achy/achy..no sense though not continuing my decorating because I'll just get antsy that I didn't do it..more totes emptied..think I'll find the tote for upstairs tree decorations, that should be easy enough. Lol

Looks like you have been busy decorating your house Betty! Bet it is looking really nice?

Crissy, sorry to hear about your Mom and Lynn having problems! Hope they can work things out?

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay, sure made headway, can't do Dvorak arrangements until week before Christmas..tired but don't want to stop 3/4 through..

It's quite something, as I opened my bins I saw treasures I received from many if you..my painted snowman tree ornament balls, star snowman, mini Victorian Santa, ornament defused made of beads..made me warm inside.

Hate to say ' if it would snow' it would set off the outside lighting perfectly, but we'll not go there!

Feeling so cozy..

Wow, not sure I have enough energy to decorate the big tree in the basement..might put the tree itself up and wait to decorate tomorrow night. I'm not at a loss for trees lol...

Took out all the Christmas bedding so might go do the bed..I'll be dreaming of Santa tonight for sure

And what did you all get up to? While I play mrs. Claus you are all thinking turkey

Whatever you got up to, hope that you enjoyed your day

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Making victoian Santa's. I have 4 of them almost done.
What is Dvorak?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Tired - after church we had a Robbie Burns Dinner committee meeting, now I'm doing the minutes.
I'm chairing the committee. It's not until Jan 21st, but with December being Sooooooooo busy for both families and the church, there's no point having meetings then, and after Christmas is too late - Dinner's only 3 weeks later!
So, taking a break from the minutes.........

Would love to see your home all decorated up, Betty - bet it's Beautiful!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay, did I type dvorak..have been on the go since 5:30 am so anything is likely..didn't even have supper but now at a standstill..ended up doing tree in basement as well, shaking my head..might as well finish the job I started this morning. big sigh, another bath and a few painkillers should help lol

Oh Linda Kay can I see the finished project? Have you been running into any problem?

Susan you are as bad as I am for taking on projects when you should be sitting with feet up..

YIKES, should go grab a tote and put everything I've not found a home for away until the weekend..hmm too tired to vacuum so will get that done early morning..

would love to stay and chat on the night shift but no can do..I've gone non stop now for 16 hrs..Betty byes now

Hello All ;

Betty is that your main bedroom ? Or one of the B&B's ? it's just beautiful ! Yes - I'm still in Thanksgiving mode... not ready to unleash Christmas mode until Friday.
The last time we did the Disney meeting I was at Disney... fun! Thoses ladies have upcoming trips or just came back. Not Me (sigh).
I get 12/26 off as a company holiday, and I took 12/23 off along with 2 random dates in Dec to use up vaca.
Crissy - so sad to hear of your Mom.... Katie has some good advice... agree Katie - I have learned not to argue wiht my managers because they aren't reasonable. I think they WANT me to argue with them and that drives them nuts.

I LOVE Kyle's take on things... he has a clear sharp view of what's what. Susan... do I remember you doing the Robbie Burns dinner last year as well ? It is an annual thing?

((HUGS)) To all... Missing you all much. Judy - hope you are coping through all this....
Dianne - hope Santa Warren had a super duper day....

Deb - kiddos are behaving....

Basement tree, sometime camera's just don't do justice..flickering lights don't help either but it will give you an idea of the tree

Mary, don't know how you all do it, having 2 major holidays within a month..I thought it was bad enough having it in October..

Glad you will have some time off at Christmas, will you be going away? So these 2 women, you didn't randomly meet them and start to gab then?

Trying to unwind for a bit before heading for bed..no that bedroom Mary is mine..rooms are not large so you have to do the best with them..cozy though!

Too funny, painted a runner for coffee table with poinsettia's, usually under the spare room bedroom bed with the stained glass heron but can't see it, not sure where I put it..likely to keep me awake all night...yep Kyle is a gem

LindayKay, you finished you santa's?

When I was unpacking I found a pair of wooden skates I painted last year and thought to myself, now why didn't I do those this year for the workshop..

Betty - your house is just PRECIOUS ! Love it.. I want to come stay one day while your decorations are up....
Your room is just gorgeous ! how many folks can stay in re: the B&B ?

The 3 ladies who met with me Saturday... we were all chatting on a Disney Thread...not unlike this thread however I didn't know those ladies at all and you are all dear friends. :o)
But they were very nice and we will all stay in touch. It was like if we had 4 of us that lived nearby and decided to get together and talk gardening for a few hours.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Santa's are not quite finished, I should have them done tomorrow. I will post when they are done.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I was going through t he old thread reading instructions, and it said you were sending 3 pieces of wire for each kit, what were they for? I know one piece was used for the arms... the other two are for?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - when I "put my feet up" I start cutting for a quilt block..... lol
I've two to make - one's pieced, and the other is applique - for the Winter Wonderland Charity Quilt Block thread....
And I'm making 2 lap quilts for a newly wed pair (friends of mine). They're easy - flip and sew crazy quilt.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, coffee is on..

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay, not sure what I was thinking..know there was a long one that I stapled in the middle for the arms then the hands were attachede by pushing stero ball into the wire..think i changed mid stream to make it easier..

Mary, my place would be 'low class' B & B..just helping out when the major ones are full

Susan, photo's of your easy quilts..need one to set on my bed in Christmas material

Meant to add, bought the pattern for rag quilt slippers..too cute..if any of you who sew would like to make a few sets, I imagine t's not much mor than an hour or so..size 7-9 but can be shrunk to fit any size.. sooo if you want instructions and if I have your e-mail I'll send

Morning everyone! Betty here are the first two Santa's I have done, the next ones are green and purple. I need to get a stronger wire for the arms, so I will get them done in a day or two!

oh Betty those are different from the ones i made cute pattern.
great job LK!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Coming right along LindaKay
Once you get at them they don't take as much time as one would think..do you have the cording for around the neck? Guess you will wait for that once you put stronger wire..think that could be one of the reasons we used the walking stick..once the one hand is glued to it the other stays in the position you put it in...

Called my Dr'..they sent request for specialist appointment on Oct11 and had conf. of receipt..gave me the specialist # (imagine) and told me to call..of course it's 10 minute long list of possible help lines and finally at the end it says 'we will attempt to return your call'

drats

So will wait a few days and if no response will call my Dr.'s office again..think it's them that should have call for the appt. Would make more sense right?

Victoria Harbour, ON

How are things going Liz, ok? Are you finally at the end of purging? I think I threw out 1/2 a tote in decorations yesterday..some looked ratty so off they went, a few were ok but enough is enough and I'm nearing too much lol

Pacifica, CA

almost done have about 4 feet left in the dumpster as i go im filling up grey bins for garage sale lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh, I forgot that step, let me go see what I have for cording or ribbon...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good for you Liz, quite the undertaking..as you know, my place is very country..think I'm going to start looking at different styles and redo, country means 'things' lol

LindaKay, ha a bit around the fold of the sleeve as well

Betty my mom and Lynn got married in 2000, she was married to my dad until August or September 1996. She would not give up, she will never give up, it would be more complicated but giving up is not in her vocabulary.

It should be them who makes the appointment but then it won't be for a good time or on a good day or even for the correct thing, so I always like to set my own appointments.

Katie I found out he's been diagnosed with degenerative arthritis in both ankles so you're right, he's panicked, but about his own self, he keeps telling her that she's not as bad off as she thinks she is. My mom and him are both very independent people, but my mom does not have any sort of a backbone so yes, she will do whatever he says. They have 5 acres to take care of and my mom hasn't been able to help at all for 3 1/2 years of it, so Lynn has been cleaning the house from top to bottom, doing all of the yard work, plus his own stuff. My mom isn't the most positive person I've ever met and all she talks about is her pain, and it will drive a person nuts real quick, so I'm thinking he's also just tired of hearing her complain. She can and will nag you out of a house very quickly.

I am soooooo tired but had to come back to work to get some rest! Had a blast this weekend and just to think I wanted to stay home. Saturday we went to the bar (we only frequent one and know all of the employees, the manager, the owner, and all of the regulars) to watch the Razorback's kick some serious butt and after the game was over we were getting ready to come home (6:30pm) and John, the manager, came out with smoked lobster tails, for free!!! Well, Dave went to Hot Springs to the store yesterday early afternoon and called me from the bar saying they're having a benefit concert with 7 different local bands last night and my bff was bartending so I should come down there. It was around 1pm I think, so I stop working on my fall wreath that I'm making and get in the shower to head over. OMG We met this guy who is 49, Brian from Minneapolis, what a hoot he is!!! I drank way way too much, John smoked some shrimp in butter sauce so we pigged out on that, and Dave left at 9pm and I had sobered up eating all of the goods so I left at 9:45, but I am so glad we made another friend! He went back home to Minneapolis this morning but will be back the Tuesday after Thanksgiving for 2 weeks so we're all going to get together and do it all again!

Victoria Harbour, ON

So glad Crissy that you finally had a weekend of fun..sometimes the unexpected is the most fun..worth setting your wreath aside..what kind of wreath are you making..greenery? Don't know why I thought they had been married for ions..got to tell you I know another mother who could be your mom's twin..lol Don't know how Jim puts up witht he constant complaining and after last week with the specialist she'll be unbearable to live with.

Hangover headaches can be the worse Crissy, NOT that your headache and tummy are suffering any after effects lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty LOL!! I'm not hungover at all, we had thunderstorms all night long that came directly over the house and the lightning and thunder crashing down within a few feet of the house got a tad loud and kept me up all night, so I'm tired from that, and I'm hungry, a bunch of shrimp doesn't last very long, good thing I ate some bread products too.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lol, you had me wondering..not good about the storm!

Suzanne keeps losing Internet connection so she is using my computer, Christmas carols playing in the office as well as out in the mall..I'm in the boardroom doing some hand sewing and caught myself noddi g off so think I'm going to go with it and have a nap until lunch time at 2. Lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

No, we've had some major flash flooding and the interstate to get home is closed and the highway that is the detour is closed. There's still a lot left to the day so I'm hoping the water recedes and me and Dave can get home from work!

Victoria Harbour, ON

How is Dave liking the job Crissy..guess you hours are such you can't commute together?
Be careful. Driving home...brrrrr it's a cold one out there

Pacifica, CA

betty thease are from the pink slipper project real easy lol
