Oh yes, forgot to say he gave me a prescription for pain, researched it and see it's main function is depression...yikes I'm not depressed I'm in pain so likely I'll not get it filled!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

"When you first saw him he didn't think you'd make it to 30 ????" ????? Betty - is that because of what a horrible DR he is ? Just kidding... but I do have to think one who tells you you are fine when you're in so much pain isn't checking out all the angles of the problem.....

CRISSY I LOVE THAT ! Thank you gal....

((HUGS)) to all... I'll pop back in a bit...

At 1230 Boss calls a 2p meeting... I had a Dr. appt (whooping cough Dr)... so I emailed her and told her I would have to take a sick day the rest of the day because I couldn't miss that appt. She fires back some idiot response. I am finding it very hard to work for this gal.

First she hates me because I have a cough then she is mad at me having a Dr. appt.

UGH!

Crissy - I would definitely ask about that title change... this company has done the same to me and it wasn't for the better (or they would have called my attention to it and taken credit - right?)

Hugs again,
Mary

Evening everyone! Nice clear, crisp evening here and the gorgeous almost half moon is beaming down across the lake right into this room. Wish I could paint!

Katie I am glad you made it so far with no surprizes. When I used to go on work road trips I always used to say please make it a quiet trip.

Betty that GP of yours is not doing his job by going down memory lane with you. Please take the apptment with the specialist. Did your doc not even offer you a script for Celebrex? I don't know what I would do without mine.You could at least find out if the pain you are experiencing is arthritis.Did he ask you if your joints would swell up or get warm? Well I do know because when I had my pit tumour and surgeries I had to go off of the Celebrex for over 6 months. I thought my hands would never come unclenched (is that a word??) or my knees unlock but once I was back on Celebrex for a bit they gradually did. Just because you like myself are aging does not mean you have to do it in pain. Don't settle for what this doc said to you, please!!!

Warren had his radiation today, so he is tucked into bed with an extra blanket and well medicated. We were told by different personnel at the hospital that he would either feel the effects of the radiation almost immediately or not at all. Well I guess he drew the short straw as he is in pretty bad shape pain wise. My heart goes out to him as he is not a complainer. I'll just keep a close eye on him for the next few hours so I can keep his pain meds topped up.

~~~~~~ to everyone, hope to get back in a bit.
Dianne
Baton Rouge, LA
Awe Deb... Saying a prayer for Warren... maybe it will kick in and he will find some relief...
I'm 100% with you on your advice to Betty...
I'm also a big believer in Celebrex... had some major back pain about 12 years ago and it was prescribed.... I LOVED it... I think it was taken off the market for a while after that but back now...
Deb - you wiggling out there ?
((HUGS))
Mary
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Betty, it is time for you to get a 2nd opinion!
Dianne, please give Warren very gentle (((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))) from us please? Hope he gets some rest!
Crissy, that is how we were raised too!
Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)
Betty - are you happy with what your Dr said? NO!! Did he tell you you wouldn't make it to 30, years ago NO.
Do I think he's right for you now? NO! Going to the same Dr all these years doesn't mean that he's keeping up with your changing-self. And you do change. I would love to have had the same Dr all these years, but after awhile I found they became complacent, and were not looking at me with fresh eyes. That's maybe what's happening with your Dr.
Treating your pain as depression-based is not sounding good. What's the point of getting a prescription if it's useless and you're not filling it? Good on ya forr researching it before you filled it at the pharmacist's!!
You, m'girl, are an informed consumer and that's the best thing that came out of this Dr app't.
(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)
Betty, lots of depression medication ...I don't know quite how to say this....they have things in them that have chemical reactions with pain centers/ nerves/etc...in your body, so they help to reduce many pains....with out having narcotics/pain medications.
I was in a car accident, long time ago, have a constant pain in the back of my head...not a headache ( but I do get them too) and I am taking an anti-depressant, for it...pain is still there, but more an annoying ache..than a bad pain...the doctors tried a bunch of different pain meds, many were too strong and just made me dizzy, and nauseous, and I still had lots of pain.....or I would just sleep all the time, or just be too "high". I was not happy with those drugs!!! finally my regular Dr. suggested the anti depressants :) took a few different tries, but found one that seems to be working well, with minimum side effects (dry mouth). I am on a low dose , so over time the amount will probably have to be increased, to continue the effects, but without it......I probably would not be able to function!!! when the pain was bad, feels like I would imagine getting hit in the back of the head with a base ball bat !!! not fun!! I spent almost three years on drugs, that kept me in the house, I could not drive..too high...could not think to well...too high. those pain meds were bad!! when I did not take them I was in too much pain to do any much of anything, but sit around...
Please try the medication, it may really help. and go see the specialist...love you, and don't want you to be in pain!!!!! Pain sucks!!
Dianne, big big hugs to ((((you and Warren))))
Sorry about your boss Mary, hope the dr appt went well that whooping cough really stinks, seems like it hangs on forever, My Momma had it some years ago.
Crissy, I can hear my Momma saying some of those things, and her Momma others :)
Katie, stay safe
well I had the day off and only accomplished getting some laundry done....
hope y'all are having sweet dreams....
Lexington Park, MD
Betty so sorry the Dr. appt. did not go well. I do hope you will see the specialist. You cannot live on the pain meds.
Katie glad to hear your trip is going well.
Dianne and Warren (((((((hugs))))))).
Coffee is on.
Victoria Harbour, ON
Morning all, good night sleep, only woke up twice and fell back to sleep..have the coffee on and just threw those donuts away, guess you weren't hungry!
Will get the prescription, you all have such valuable experience dealing with overwhelming pain yourselves..25mg of Nortriptyline and will go to the specialist just not sure if blood test showed nothing what they would be able to find. But go I will..usually long wait so doubtful it will be before Christmas!
I'll return to chat when I get to the office
Waving to all
(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)
Betty, I'm so sorry to hear you feel like you did not get the kind of care you should. I would surely be talking with my pharmacist about the prescription and what it is for. Please keep the appointment with the specialist. He may see something that your reg doc thinks is normal with you but which could be a problem. I agree with Susan in that sometimes they don't really look at us and they think they know us so well. In any case, I hope you are feeling much better today and keep us posted on how you are doing.
Off to finish my placemats. Have a great day everyone....
Lyndonville, NY
Miss Betty, those pills work wonders. I was on them for some time and felt so much better. Give them a try, REMEMBER they take a couple weeks to build up in your system. You will NOT feel it immediately. So do not stop taking them. Each day will get better over a few weeks time. This is the safe way to do it.
Crissy, love loved loved that!! Posting it on the fridge!
Mary, I would put my foot....with toes wiggling....up someones backside if they acted like that. OH MY...and that is a boss? Nasty nasty individual.
Thea, Thunder & everyone....thank you for the well wishes....you keep my spirits up.
Dianne, lots of hugs for you and Warren!
Debbie
Victoria Harbour, ON
Just settling in, brought rag quilt blocks in to snip as to entertain myself. While doing so I'm watching mall staff put up Christmas decorations..started putting them up as the halloween ones come down..imagine I'll be hearing Christmas music shortly, hope they start playing it Dec.1st otherwise I'll be Christmas'd out lol
Brrr bit on the chilly side here this morning, I swear they have the heat on a timer and takes an hour or so to heat up the offices...thank goodness for my trusty mini heater.
Mary, sooo difficult working for someone who for whatever reason doesn't like you let alone a boss...how did you make out at the doctors?
Debbie, more toes wriggling? watch the kitties don't go after them
Good morning everyone…
Betty, I just read what your “dear” doctor told you and that his answer to your problems is a prescription of antidepressant.
I am not sure if he ever sent you for X-rays/CT scan and/or MRI to see what is causing all your pain, but to me that should have been the first action to take, right along with a blood test.
If he hasn`t ordered any of those test, please go back and ask for it, he can`t assume you have arthritis or make any other assumptions or dismiss that you have any other conditions with your joints/muscles/nerves.
As for the antidepressants…well that is nowadays the standard prescription if the #$@%R@#!% doctors have NO clue what causes the pain or if they are too lazy to order more tests to actually look for the cause. Been there and done that and changed doctors. In my Opinion those “happy pills” or “cure-alls” is NOT the answer for a lot of conditions. It only masks of what your body is telling you…you treat a symptom but you don`t treat the cause.
Also did the Doctor look into the fact that you are on Blood pressure Meds. As far as I remember you telling us, you had/have problems with your kidneys and a lot of Blood pressure meds are hard on the kidneys (I know that because DH is on BP meds and has to be monitored because he had kidney stones before) maybe this has something to do with it.
And as long as you don`t know what you actually have or what causes your pain I personally would stay away from those drugs. I know all too well, that living with pain is not fun at all, but taking meds, but not knowing what you actually have is not the answer either.
Well I better get of my soapbox…above is just what I think about doctors and antidepressants and I hope I did not offend anyone. I know that for some people those meds can be a life saver, but one should actually know what illness one has before taking them.
Sending you lots of hugs and hope you feel better soon.
Have a good day everyone
Love and hugs
Thea
Betty...FIVE toes wiggling on right foot. Still no ankle movement or much feeling on the right.
So both feet have toe wiggles. Bottom of the left is getting some feeling, like bands wrapped around my toes and that pins and needles sensations. My exercises are to stengthen my upper leg muscles also...they are in bad shape.
I think my girls are going to the craft show....but I doubt it will be easy at all to push a wheelchair through all those crowds. Do not think I even want to attempt that.
Regarding the anti depressants. With me, they helped me to be able to focus on what the problems were...instead of overwhelming pain....and fix them. I was able to take care of the other situations....and then wean off the medications. Have been off them for almost 3 years now. SO, they do have their benefit...although yes, many doctors do overuse, they have saved many too.
Victoria Harbour, ON
Debbie, I think it would be marvellous for the girls to take you to Hamburg and there are a lot of people who enjoy the day viewing all the goodies and enjoying themselves..tell them to drop you off at the door and I'll be there when the gates open and I can do the wheeling..
I don't know why Debbie that I don't connect antidepressants with pain killers..that kind of med scares the beezeebers out of me..when you read what these meds do you have to wonder if it's not better dealing with what you have then the unknown.
Victoria Harbour, ON
Thea, don't want to take up all my day on me and my aches/pains, so many of you are much more in need of hugs but my point is exactly that..with JUST blood tests how do they know all that is going on???
Dianne and Santa Warren, putting my elf christmas box together, going good, Santa Warren you made it easy for me..lol I will get my box out either this weekend or next, likely next..am excited! How are you both feeling today?
Hello y'all ...
Sorry I've been MIA but I've had some things going on ...
Betty, I think the Dr was probably just trying to give you something to help until they could schedule you more test. You'd be amazed what they can tell from blood tests ... And I agree with Debbie ... those meds are not just for depression.
Debbie, my prayers never stop for you. How is Paul today? Congrats on those wiggly toes!!!
Dianne, I'm glad Warren has yesterday over. How does he feel today? Praying for both of you and sending hugs ...
Mary, Mary ... do you need that DG 2x4 we talked about? ☺ Hope you feel better soon, girl!
Katie, good to hear from you. ... Stay safe ...
Ooops, phone.
mulege, Mexico
As I told my doctor pain, depression and tiredness get all mixed up and it's hard to know where to or what to treat them with. He wrote it down. I agree with others, Betty, don't take "duh" for an answer.
Debbie - five toes wiggling. That's great.
Last night I was very tired from the trip and was opening a bunch of packages, mostly fabric. Opened one box and there was an artificial leg!! I stared at it for a least a minute before I remembered it was from Andy. Then I laughed a lot.
Had a good day today. Met with a man I may buy a new vehicle from. Hit my favorite thrift shop and had a great time there. When I was in line with a full cart I let other people go first. Made some friends, felt good. They gave me some slightly-lower prices on some of the stuffed animals for Xmas. Got some other shopping errands done.
Will see my doctor tomorrow.
By the way, when I was getting these sores on my arms I saw several doctors and made a couple of ER visits. "Duh." Finally, I went to the Er and got hysterical. "Do you not understand that I am in pain and you are doing nothing?" Got pain killers and antibiotics. Both helped. It also got me to my current GP whom I love and everybody there whispers to me that he's the best.
When in doubt, throw a fit. Loudly.
hugs, katie
Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)
yes Betty - and if you feel uncomfortable "throwing a fit" ask one of your friends or relatives to come and throw one for you - I feel SURE one of them will do it for you - they love you, gurl!!
Hello To All !
Yeah Debbie 'High Five" on the 5 toes ! (or is it "low five").....Yes - wish I could have given DB (Dear Boss) a swift kick yesterday..... I've been doing this same thing for 24 years and have never been expected to cancel a DR appt or take sick/vaca leave...
These ladies all have so much knowledge Betty - I love knowing I can ask you all medical opinions... you know it's folks closest to you who can tell when something serious is going on...
My Whooping Cough Dr. said she had been treating me conservatively so Itold her let's start being aggressive... this has been way too long. She put me on Prednisone a new inhaler, refilled a cough prescript and clarithromycin... I have high hopes... this cough has got to Stop everyone is tired of it... friends, family... and especially ME.....For some reason cough was bad today maybe it knows I'm throwing the book at it.....
((HUGS)) Suse glad you are back... got Shanghai Girls at the library this weekend... love it...
Waving THea, Susan, etc....
Katie - that is incredible... ANDY - how wonderful of you both to help out someone in need.
See Katie & Andy - you'd give an arm and a leg to help out someone huh? ((HUGS))
Same with all these folks on here.....I'm being silly tonight...
Love,
Mary
PS: I met with my Grocer client today and he said that Turkeys are "scarcer" this year than previous... so might want to get ya'lls early for the best selection.....
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Mary, sure hope you get that darn cough gone! Hope the new meds work for you!
Baton Rouge, LA
Thank you LK ! It's totally been an aggravation... I can be just FINE for hours and then start coughing and not stop till tears running and even worse...
It's not as bad as folks on here have it though... My Prayers to all on here... Many (((HUGS))))
Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)
Mary - I prayed for you, on our Prayer Hour - you need prayers too, even though you don't feel you have as bad as others, you're still one of "God's Kids" as they say in our church lol
Jaye - prayed for your neice Sati.....
Victoria Harbour, ON
Morning all, light rain on the way in, will clear up later I hear..
Passed a home on my way in and the Christmas lights were on, somebody is getting anxious. Will try and put mine up Sunday if I get home early from Buffalo but don't turn them on until at least Dec.1st.
Barb, has the snow all melted? Did Norm get any snow days off? lol lots of questions and last but not least how are you doing?
Andy, hugs to you for sending Katie the leg, am sure someone will feel the benefit of earthly angels. Any more biking going on?
Linda Kay have you started on the Santa's...nobody owned up as to who had to throw the 2 misfit faces away, want to send two replacements.
Debbie, bet you are moving those toes just for the fun of it, just so thrilled you are getting feeling back..slow but sure..is Paul back at work?
Crissy, did you ever find those boots you were looking for?
Mary, use Suse's 2x4 on that boss of yours..doesn't she know the gem you are..I think perhaps she's jealous of your knowledge and wants to make a stand to show who is boss..so glad you are being agressive with the cough.
OMG I was looking through boxes for a few items to put in my Christmas box for one of you and I found about 25 of the iris folding cards....all the trimmings inside, guess they were from the packages I sent you all last a few years ago, should bring them into work then I'd have Christmas cards to send out lol
Got to tell you, not only the mall is starting to look a bit like Christmas, you should see what I brought in today..another panel added to the 2nd blankie for me to work on..last night I walked in the door, downstairs I went and got half of mom's rag quilt put together..remaining blocks are in bags here for me to pin together to make it easier tonight to finish the blanket..I'm on an Elf mission..
Do have to pack my bag for the weekend, but that should not take long.
Dropped of my computer yesterday to have checked, told her it keeps saying 'no video output' if its major in the garbage it shall go..have the ipad and the laptop and not going to spend mega bucks for repair..suppose to call me today and let me know..
Ahhhh know what's coming, last night I heard a thump, Sailor fell and could not get up and was fretting..know what is happening and can't bring myself to do what's needed yet..
so that is my morning , and how is yours?
Lyndonville, NY
Happy Birthday Crissy! I hope you have a wonderful day!!!
Betty, yes Paul is back at work since Monday and except for some occassional very bad headaches....which he NEVER gets...he is OK. We think it is from the steroid drops he has to put in his eyes.
Mary, you be careful, listen to the doctors and take your meds.....you have been dealing with that for so long!! They have sent letters home from a few schools around here to be careful of pertusses.
Waving to all.....having some issues with my dog this morning I need to tend too.
Debbie
(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)
And how are you feeling today Betty? How is the arm doing? Knowing how much you want to do this time of year, I wish I were still there to help. I can't paint for you but I could sew for you or crochet or clean up for you as you paint.
Today I am doing well and I guess it's time I let out the story of why I've been quiet lately. About 6 weeks ago I was getting pains just under my right breast. I went and saw my doctor and she thought it was a gall bladder problem. I was sent for an ultrasound. It showed that I had nothing wrong with the gall bladder but that I had an enlarged bile duct and what looked like a cyst on my liver. The radiologist who read the ultrasound felt it would be better to have a CT scan to get a clearer picture of what was going on. So I had a CT scan. This clearly showed what the ultrasound had shown. However, when doing this scan they caught the lower portion of my left lung and there was a nodule there. Since I have COPD, anything concerned with my breathing takes precedence so it was decided that a CT scan of the lungs should be done. So back I went and had that scan. The doctor's report was that it showed several nodules in the left lung and that her recommendation was to see a thoracic surgeon. So copies were made of the scans and I saw him yesterday. After viewing the scans, he told me that I had two issues. The nodules in the lung and the mass in the digestive track. He said he really feels the nodules are signs of infection and NOT cancerous. A big sigh of relief here!!!! of course he told me that he cannot be sure of course without a biopsy which he hesitates to do right now due to my breathing issues. So I now have a two-step plan of attack. One will be to have a PET scan which is today's greatest tool for detecting cancer cells. This is what Norm has two times a year. Also, to set up an appointment with the gastroenterologist to find out just what is going on in my digestive track. I get very uncomfortable but it is sporadic and I never know when it is going to hit. It's like indigestion on a big scale. So I go on from here.
I may not post as often as I have in the past and it's only because I have so much I'm trying to get done. I don't know if surgery is in my immediate future or not so I want as much done as possible. I will ask for your prayers if I may. I truly believe God hears them. And I thank you all for your concern - there is no finer group of people anywhere.
Love to you all, Barb
Victoria Harbour, ON
Crissy, singing Happy Birthday to you, bit off key but want you to know I'm wishing you the best of the day..doing anything special???
Oh Barb, as Judy would say 'BIG armwraps-group hug' coming your way along with the prayers..we are a fine bunch aren't we..
Doctors who deal with these issues have the ability for most part to know if it looks cancerous and thank the Lord he feels it is not but is taking precautions with the tests..better to be safe than sorry!! Are you close to your medical facility for these tests or is there a lot of driving like Dianne/Warren have to do?
We'll be watching posts for updates for sure
Bet Norm is just frantic..
I'm making peace with not being able to do everything I usually do..arm is fine providing nothing in my hand for lifting ie. coffee/hair brush so drinking with myleft..going to have my hair cut tonight so it's short/short and that will fix those issues..but thanks for the help lol and going to shut my mind off of my woes, doesn't do to complain..
Will NOT attempt the stained glass lamp for Julie right now, don't have hand pressure to score the glass, might be a good excuse the get that cutter going..as for the quilts, laying them on the table and working without lifting my arm and seems to be working so all is well!!! Don't think I'll have trouble taking my $$$ out at the big Hamburg Craft Show though..lol
Think we should all move in together and help each other out..great plan for that home on the lake we've been talking about purchasing..I've got the boat...
Victoria Harbour, ON
Meant to add, Debbie glad Paul is doing ok..is he liking his new employers?
Ahhh what's wrong with your furry? hope it's not same as Sailor..
For you quilters..got to say how impressed I am with this quilt as you go method..even the back side of the quilt looks nice
Betty it is the same as Sailor. Have tried everything to stop the itching...she now has a big hole in her back, totally raw. I am helpless here in what I can do. Sadly just ripped DH up for avoiding the issues I need help with as he is NOT a dog person and just chooses what he will converse about. I am stuck right now with what I can do without help....can't even drive...and even if I could...I have no car.
Barb, my arms are around you....sending big big hugs to help you get through this. A PET scan is a wonderful thing. It can cut out many invasive tests and better results.
Will be with you
