Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hi Sally!! Long time no see. How are you? How are things in Iowa?

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

:o)

Doing good! Not much of a garden this year because we had a driveway put in and the dirt was piled on the garden, But look out next year! I'm looking for good eats!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good to hear! I want to do more edibles too.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

:o)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Victor that sounds good let us know how it turns out

I have so many new recipes I need to try.
Last night had porcupine meatballs and sauerkraut.
I was going to do a chuck roast but forgot to take it out to defrost, DUH.....it would be a great soup day

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

I made a jasmine rice recipe with green tomatoes. We ate half of it as soon as it came out of the oven, LOL!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

mmmm sounds good!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Love jasmine rice.

Porcupine meatballs sound scary!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Victorgardener, cracking up! I used to make them ALL the time after we got tired of Hamburger Helper in the early years.

Oooh, I also roasted a big pan of tomatoes with jalapenos. So far it's a side dish.

Amherst, NY(Zone 6a)

Do those porcupine meatballs have a sharp flavor? ;p

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

You guys are too funny!

Pasta, meatballs and a salad tonight.

Thomaston, CT

It all sounds delish....I have some chard left in the garden, Victor.....sounds like a winning recipe.....It was a good night for soup....I ate a bowl & a half! No dessert :>(

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Steaks on the grill in the rain, and white Lima beans in the crock pot. Was supposed to be yesterday's dinner, I had DH put the beans on but they weren't done by the time I got home, so postponed til today.
Have to remember how long it takes dried beans to cook in the crock pot for next time.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

DavEdsel, cCRACKING UP!!

Debi_k, smiling, I started the cooking the ham and beans the day before and finished them the next day.

Thomaston, CT

Son called & invited me to a 'turkey breast dinner' tonight....I'm bringing a salad.....

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

How long did the beans take? I am inexperienced at cooking beans. Tonight I made Fettucine Alfredo. :)

Amherst, NY(Zone 6a)

Most types of beans need to be soaked overnight, then cooked in a crock pot for 6-8 hours or gently on the stove for about 2 hours.

Today was a crazy day for us - my wife had several medical appointments. Lunch was Arby's Angus Philly with fries, and supper was a Buffalo style chicken salad from a convenience store.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I soaked the beans overnight, then on low on the crock pot 4 hours didn't touch it. Maybe hi would have done it, left them on lo the next day 8 hours and they were not overcooked.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Ground pork and green tomato pie. That was good!

I bring beans to a boil them, turn off the fire let them sit an hour or so. I dump off the water and put them back into broth I was bringing to a boil. Usually they get done in a day if I start early. I use Northerns.

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

Cuban Style Pork and Rice (with Shrimp) recipe from EatingWell. Lasted for three meals and just as good on the third one as the first!

http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/cuban_style_pork_rice.html

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

had breaded fish and fries last night.

Thomaston, CT

Hi Don...I love Eating Well magazine! I cooked while in NH, but have leftover soup for myself tonight.....

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Well, it was leftovers and they are gone so I have a clean slate.

I think liver and onions.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Had ribs and carrot salad for lunch yesterday dinner was after the corn maze at an Italian restaurant, there was 21 of us and it took FOREVER to get served even though they knew we were coming and had the back room for us. The had gluten free pizza...NASTY....worse than frozen..so afterward went and picked up ice cream to make us feel better!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Ahhh, ice cream always makes me feel better.

Leftover pasta and homemade meatballs. I made enough to freeze 6 more meal-size portions. Getting a massage at 5, so dinner will be easy to do after that.

Went out for lunch with a friend after we attended a funeral for a dear friend at church who just happened to have Down's syndrome. We are praising God she passed peacefully.
For lunch I had a good bean soup and a piece of pumpkin cheesecake. Brought some home for Jeff. YUMMY!!!

Amherst, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm planning to make a pizza for supper today. Still have half of the dough that I made using garlic mashed potatoes last week - I kept it tightly sealed in the fridge. Today's will have sauteed ground beef, onions, green peppers, red sauce, a little cheddar cheese sauce and shredded mozzarella. Plus, it will have plenty of gluten. LOL. ☺

Thomaston, CT

Gluten free pizza does sound nasty.....white bean & escarole soup, salad, & a cider donut....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Sorry for the loss of your friend, Jan

Amherst, NY(Zone 6a)

Jan23 - my sympathies regarding the loss of your friend. That is a blessing that she passed away so peacefully.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

meatloaf, parsley potatos and broccolli.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Lasagna rolls

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

leftovers, choice of chuck roast, ribs or chicken...son wanted a hot dog *sigh*

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Liver and onions didn't thaw in time so that's today. The pork chops on the other hand thawed very nicely at 200* for 10 minutes, flipping once. I was afraid the liver would cook if I tried thawing it.

FlowAjen, the ice cream was needed!!

Jan, so sorry about your friend. A peaceful passing is what we all hope for.

DavEdsel, just YUM!!

It ALL sounds good

Jen, sometimes I just want a hot dog too :o)

Thomaston, CT

Jan, so sorry for your loss....remember the good times with her. Tonight, boneless pork ribs, carrots, green beans, and sweet pepper salad....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Pork chops tonight here too

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks for your well wishes everyone. Joanne didn't know a stranger. she made everyone smile. Her mom told me one time that when she was born she was encouraged to put her in an institution, cuz that's what was done. At one point they did (I don't know how old she was then), and one time they visited, her mother looked behind a closed door and didn't like what she saw, so she was brought home pronto. she was the best fan at sporting events. She was a great prayer warrior, too, as much as she could understand.

Chicken, peas, onions, potatoes all in a gravy with warm apple crisp. Better get busy and get it on the plate. Jeff just came back from running. Later gator
