Dianne Writes:

Ok, here are OUR THREAD (BETTY'S BLOG) CHRISTMAS SWAP INFO. As a word of warning you might have to do some interpretive reading as I cannot see the monitor well enough to use spell check. I am an excellent speller but a not so good Typist. Please bear with me or ask if you can't decipher something.Alright the first thing about OUR SWAP is that there are NO RULES. Yep, ya read it right!! I feel I will be getting a gift for a friend so cost does not enter into the equation but please keep in mind it is NOT a competition either. Thanks to Barb who gave me excellent wording for this SWAP is just good friends remembering each other at the holidays.
Please confirm here on the thread by midnight Oct 18 if you are participating. Betty you are going to post the list at the beginning of the next thread right? Once you have a name and her mailing address which I will Dmail to you after Warren makes the draw on Wednesday. Warren will not allow his pic to be taken and unfortunately this year he does not even have the roly poly build of Santa.So you will just have to envision him sitting by the wood stove with his toy sack pulling out the names one at a time.
If you need some info about the person whose name you received please contact either Betty or I (OK Betty?)by Dmail or Email.
and we will seek out the info. Things like favourite colour, interests, any allergies to scent , food or material comes to mind.
If your parcel is mailed according to the departure date from either Can to US or vice versa we should all be happy campers having received our gift before Christmas. SOmw of you might want to wait until Christmasa, some of you might want to rip that parcel open right away - go to it - it is yours to enjoy. Once you have opened it please if you want to take some pics and show us what you received. Whomever gets my name be prewarned I do not have a camera but you are more than welcome to take pics of your gift and post the pics when I say I have opened mine. Whew! Is that confusing???
Some of you are very talented and can make your presents,Bake your presents and so on but some of us have no crafty bones in our bodies but I am sure we will be able to get a super gift for our Exchange partner.

Lights are starting to flicker, have been without hydro and interbet for 24 hours. The winds are still wicked. MAking my getaway a quick one.
~~~~~~ to all! I sure hope everyone is happy with the non rules of the Swap.
Bev, Powder is adorable, Missy sits on the computer as well and watches my type, think she thinks I'll tell tales of her mischiefs...anxious to see photo's of Puffy and am thrilled you will celebrate Christmas with us.
I would have been so mad at myself had I not had my camera this morning..
God's beauty was overwhelming..only lasted about 3 minutes and I was able to snap/snap/snap before it disappeared...can you believe this??? had I painted such a picture everyone would have said, sky hmm no can be that color...just have to share
My flood in basement
Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)
Betty - where is the picture???
Did your basement finally dry out? Don't have any surgery scheduled yet. Today I went for more lab work and then they will schedule another CT scan of the lungs. When I get those results, we will go from there. I can't wait to see these latest panels for your quilts. You have worked so hard on them.. What a shame about your Mom's friend. I guess we never know. I've been playing more with the Ipad and loving it. It's so darn portable and I take it everywhere now.
Katie, what a wonderful way to turn an ugly memory into a truly special one. I applaud you..
Susan you are on my mind this morning and I'm hoping the job is the right one for you. Good luck and I'll continue the prayers for Bob to get a job too.
Deb, saying Hi and hoping today is a good one for you. It's sunny here but very windy. Almost time to turn the furnace on but I'm holding off as long as i can...Winter is long enough and the fuel oil is sooooooo expensive.
Dianne, that is a wonderful explanation for our Christmas swap. I'm so looking forward to it. I love the image you painted for us of Warren sitting by the fire drawing the names from the hat. Just a wonderful warm and cozy image. If noone else wants it, I would love to read "Mind's Eye". I just loved "Whirlygigs".
David Baldacci is a favorite of mine to Suse. Ever since I saw "Absolute Power" and found out he was the auther. I haven't read much lately but now I'll go load that one for me....Thanks for the tip.
I talked with Thea on Thursday and she has had a pretty busy month going on. Her sister went home to Germany for a visit and Thea was trying to get all kinds of things together to send with her for her family. And then her DH had a birthday so I'm thinking she will pop in after she has a chance to catch her breath. Seems to be a lot of that going on!!!
Sending a big HI and hugs to all. LK, Mary, Bev, Judy, Crissy. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Enjoy your day.....
(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)
Guess I was typing while you were posting. I can "SEE" where Sailor and Missy are sleeping!!!! Did the wter get into the craft room too?
The pictures of the sky are amazing. I'd almost be afraid of a sky that was so red in the morning. It is usually a sign of bad weather coming.
Victoria Harbour, ON
Did not get into Craft room Barb because I caught it on time..had I gone to bed first I'd have had major problems..must go speak to the neighbor tonight about what she has growing right next to the water disposal ditch in front of our properties, it's blocking the free flow of rain..yep all into my basement..
There used to be Barb some kind of weather prediction red sky in the morning, sailors delight, red sky at night ??? can't remember but it sure was nice to look at!
glad nothing is wrong with Threa, was about to go in search lol..hope you are feeling a bit better today..don't overdo..going to lock you and Debbie up in a room just the two of you so you can keep an eye on each other and not do what you shouldn't be doing..as though that would help lol
Betty, you'll have to give us a daily weather report, so we'll know if that saying is true. I've always thought it was. We're having rain and then it's turning cold here so maybe we're sending something up your way instead of you sending it down to us. LOL
Glad for the report on Thea ...
Went for a short walk, had a bite of lunch and need to vacuum. I made a mess yesterday ... Of course, I cleaned that up but need to do more ... We came in from church, and I was in a rush to put lunch on the table. We were each having left overs ... mine was left over Grilled Chicken Carbonara from Apllebees ... I plated it, covered it and went to put it in the microwave, and it slipped out of my hand breaking the plate ... so there went lunch ... Boohoo
Victoria Harbour, ON
I'd be rushing as well Susa, don't think I've ever had anything at Appleby's that I did not enjoy..mouth now watering..Not sure why, every time I head Buffalo side and at the Christmas Tree store i want to eat there and yet there is one two blocks away from the office. I always think of it as being a USA restaurant..best I remember and go some evening when I've plenty of time.
Must go Suse and check for that saying??? hmmm
(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)
red sky at night, sailor's delight....red sky in morning, Sailor take warning!!! but they are beautiful pictures.
My DIL is here ^_^ and my angel !!! ^_^ hubby ordered me a monitor!!! it should be here tomorrow!!! think it will take me forever to catch up?/!!
hope everyone is doing ok, I have to go to the imaging place today...got to get the boob smush!! it is Breast cancer awareness month!! did Y'all make your appointments yet???? please go do it right now, if you have not....
thanks and lots o' love
Victoria Harbour, ON
Ohhh Thunder, so I should be watching what the weather brings in later today...drats, Barb was right! Ohhh photo's please when you can..can see you smilling from here..no need to catch up just pop up on a chair and show us those pretty ladies...Thunder, did make note though that I changed panel 10..if it turns out I'll include pattern with the pieces I'm sending. Lucky you, or is it lucky us, you getting a new monitor.
Have to comment to Debbie, yikes, I thought that football was almost over because hockey just began, see how much I know but one thing I do remember, I will head stateside day of the big game, if you remember there was not 1 car crossing over to USA or to Canada, everyone was home watching the game sooo a shopping I will go..just have to remember to remind me of the date..lol
I'm all by my lonesome today, Paul dropped in but for a second on his way to the city, just rental some big office complex that can be seen from the highway, ordering signage, nope, not for us, 3 years of travelling back and forth to Toronto was enough, then Suzanne is at Trustee meeting for the day so I'm here trying to figure out how to pass the day..
Have been gabbing with Sharon, who asked if I wanted to go in with her for mom on a Keurig, nope, already doing a rag quilt that likely will cost me $100 for materials only so don't put me down as 'ok'
Got to get going also on the 5th Annual Christmas Workshop but kind of feel badly because of economy that some might feel they should participate when really they shouldn't be so what to do, what to do..??
Speaking of workshops, mom gave be a big tote with christmas things in it, hate throwing them away but as I riffled through there was a Michaels bag with one of the faces for our Victorian Santa's, don't think the pattern was included in the packaging but maybe..anyway it was $3.99 and sure didn't look like our pretties...that being said DO NO, repeating DO NOT for those I'm sending santa faces think I'm looking for $$$..it was simply an observation..I'm sending it so that you enjoy making this project ..love sharing projects as you know.
This morning I thought of something for my Christmas gift for this Christmas Thread swap..going to get everything together and start it, some can be done here at work..at least I'm thinking it could be my gift, once I have my name I'll decide for sure.
the two BIL's that were at the dinner Saturday night..Paul is the one in the suit..he's my boss..
Just found this
Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning.
A red sunrise reflects the dust particles of a system that has just passed from the west. This indicates that a storm system may be moving to the east. If the morning sky is a deep fiery red, it means a high water content in the atmosphere. So, rain is on its way.
That would mean, Dianne, Thea and Barb, do watch out, it's heading your way!!!
Laura, did you lift something you should not have for your back to be acting up again? Bet you've been sitting for long periods of time sewing at that new table of yours right?
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Betty, love that sunrise picture!
Red at night, sailors delight, red in the morning, sailors take warning...
Victoria Harbour, ON
Gee Whizz I'm gabby today and no one here to play with..Susan is at work, not sure where Judy is, night shift won't be here for some time...boo hoo
Laura, here you go..
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Betty, did your sofa and other furniture get wet in the flood?
Victoria Harbour, ON
LindaKay, glad I'm not in a boat then... lol is it cooler in your neck of the woods and if so, how are you spending your day???
Laura, this one is done with the inner panels taken out..kind of like it
Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON
not really, was sooo lucky to have noticed when I did..just a bit of dampness smell but now that the dehumidifier has been one, one would hardly know..
I'm glad that it's a hand painting floor, nothing seems to damage it..might this winter take a weekend and keep animals upstairs and give it a couple coats of finish..it's 5 or 6 years old, had a few floods, nobody takes shoes off coming in the basement, winter or summer and it still looks fine..hate to think what would happen had I put in carpet..the floor I did was to be for just a bit until I could afford to do it properly, now I'm thinking I don't want to do it, much better as it is
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Glad you did not put down carpet! That would be a mess for sure.
it is 78 right now! Windows and doors open!
When we can afford to, my carpets out of here. LOL I remember when you painted your floor Betty. Thought it sounded neat back then ... Is it tile?
thunder ... congrats on your new monitor and glad you're having fun.
edited cause I wasn't thinking. ☺
Suse it's Thunder that has a new monitor. Thea is really busy right now and will be back on as soon as she can.
That said, I bet Thunder is having a wonderful time with her DIL and granddaughter Mahlena. This is just the "pick-me-up" I got last week when my kids/grandkids were here. We don't see them often so when we do it is so special....
Glad to hear the basement is okay Betty. I would hate to think of the craft room getting wet!!! The floor looked beautiful to both Norm and I when we were there. We commented to each other several times about how clever it was to paint it like you did. I wouldn't change it at all.
Paul looks like a big teddy bear. He has kindness written in his face.
Off to start a stew for dinner. BBL if I can.
Victoria Harbour, ON
suse, not it's painted to look like rock! Not a rug person anymore, especially with furries.. I do have some carpets though, ones that I've painted to match the rooms they are in..makes it easy to wash..even the one on the basement floor survived, lifted it, dried it and back down it went, none the less for wear and tear.
Barb, Paul is a Pauze, he like is brother Roger is like a big teddy bear, kind as can be, just don't get them mad..lol
Ohh love stew, care to share.. and yes, nothing like having grandchildren around..I'm lucky with Kyle and Noah, one is always dropping in, but the other two I miss as I don't see them as often as I should.
(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)
Suse I think you are getting confused by the word carpet. What Betty is referring to are floor coverings. Pieces of linoleum that she has painted. They are so pretty and her basement floor is painted to resemble flagstones. She puts 5-8 coats of urethane on them and they wear like iron...It is just gorgeous. She has nice flaminated wood on the floors themselves. Hope that makes it a bit easier to understand what she means
Victoria Harbour, ON
You can tell I'm on drugs right Barb..lol...been a long day, just responded to an e-mail that Paul sent, had to go back and ungarble..lol
Victoria Harbour, ON
Barb watch that iPad..jeff just answered to my last evenings e-mail..said it was a great weekend update but wondered who Jacob was ? (was sure I said Caleb)
Then I has beefcake came over to help me with the wet vac?? Did I have a new boyfriend? Lol. Sure I typed, Greg came over..yikes you could get into trouble couldn't you?
Ya'll were VERY chatty today! I ended up napping after my doctors appointment and am still exhausted.
Just loved the pictures posted. We have had more rain and wind....it doesn't stop for four days now.
DH and I both exhausted and thinking of turning in very early.
Waving hello to everyone.....Missed you Thunder!
Debbie
Victoria Harbour, ON
Does that mean Debbie I'm not the only one who likely won't make the night shift? Was the doctor pleased with your progress?
LindaKay, for sure the iPad has its own language
Off for a nap
Lyndonville, NY
Betty, sure don't think I will make the night shift. Shane wants me to watch Castle with him, but just can't keep my eyes open. Trying to stay up and watch Dancing....and the eyes are drooping!
HI!!!
Here I am, one tired being. lol, I've been into all kinds of mischif!
I miss you all like you wouldn't believe.
This month has been an emotional roller coaster...But I am now through the roughest and that is first Mumma's and then Carol Bears' anniversary.
Haven't had any real time to be down about things. lol...If I am not helping to rip down drywall- 3 walls, Then I am ripping out shrubs and weeds at three different locations...My entire weeks last week was devoted to Laundry and more laundry! Had to wash all the Rental Linen from the Cottage as well as our personal linen, well that escalated into just about every last piece of clothing here as well. Whew it is finally done. Mix all this with the daily running to the store, I've been doing all the grocery shopping and most of the cooking, including DH lunches!! Yikes. I feel like stretch arm strong! My days usually consist of awakening at 5:30 and if things are done I get to retire at 9-930. On my time off, Ive been searching for a job again...Try to work on a few craft projects, go to football games and help with whatever needs doing...loading fire wood, put away garden decor. Julia has been learning to cook so, I've been cheerleader and adviser with some of that. Jake has been working on a project for school so, I have worked with filming!! Believe it or not, I have managed to lurk here and there and actually finished a book! Took me almost a month. LOL, to think i used to read for a week straight! And then Julia decided it was time to Adult up her room!! Soo, helped with clearing things out, cleaned up and painted some shelves. It's been really cool to watch her redecorate and she is so proud that she is purging lots of junk!! I can't believe some of the stuff that came out of that little room, ROFLOL...And now it time to do it all over. Tomorrow, i think i am going to be working on the other side of the new house....I am praying that some of the shrubs i am trying to save to relocate will make it. I am soaking the roots in bins of water! Now the water is will finally be on as of wednesday so i can get them back in the ground. I've measured the front area so that i can begin a drawing of some ideas i'm mulling around. Also, making a list of to do's before it gets rainy and cold, but I am hoping DH will hire some people to rip out the shrubs from the right side of the house! They've been cut back but need to be yanked out, no way i am going to be able to dig them out, toooo many...
Well my dinner is ready, i made meatlof and Dh is falling asleep while supposedly watching football, lol.
I am hoping to be back after i eat. Not to tired today, I sorta took a day of working slowly.
Waiving to you all, and include everyone in my daily thoughts and prayers.
Great photos...
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)
Hi everyone!!! I'm a bit under the weather so I'm sorry for not being here, bad bad week to catch a cold but there's nothing I can do about it.
Betty that sky is something!!!!
My grandfather was a Merchant Marine and he would always say every time it would rain:
"Rainbow at night, sailor's delight; rainbow at morning, sailor's take warning."
He never said anything about a red sky, that's very interesting!
Yes, Betty's basement floor is gorgeous! Thanks for that explanation Barb, it helped me understand!
HI DEB!!! Sweet dreams sweetie!!
I'm going to turn in myself, feel like the National Snot Factory here.
Baton Rouge, LA
Hello Night Shift !
Crissy - Hope you feel better soon! When does Dave return and are you enjoying your "time off" !?
Thought I saw you were going to a swap as well...
Deb - I must watch Castle I remember you loved it... Very sad to read Debbies Blog and there is no improvement. So I will continue to keep you as always in my prayers...
Judy....wow Lady.... I'm exhausted reading just what you are up to ! Sounds like a lot is getting done.... what kind of job will you be looking for ? How wonderful the girls growing up and learning to cook... cleaning out the little girl stuff..... I might encourage you to send those stuffed animals to Katie but I am not sure about whether she needs them or the postage, etc.
DSD1 at college, DSD2 at FFA Field Trip (for a week) so it's just DS, me and hubs and our torn out livingroom carpet. DS19 is here......it's 9pm....
DS has hugged me all night....told me he loves me...offered to put the dishes away...told me he needs to wash clothes....and wants to start saving money.
I"M VERY WORRIED !!!!
(HUGS)
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)
My 1st day at my new job went very welll!! Sent there on contract, but they want to hire a mature person who will stay there. I am a Project assistant - will be getting a corporate credit card. My boss wants me to go with him when he travels for meetings. My family is in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and he said he'd be asking me to go there and also to Montreal, and Staford England!
Wow, eh?
Baton Rouge, LA
OMG Susan ! Pinch you huh ? That sounds very perfect ! I'm so so happy for you !
Now praying for Bob to get a job and ya'll will be set and ready for the holidays!
Wow - ENGLAND ! Traveling overseas ? That is awesome !
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)
Well, the travelling to England would be a "maybe" but he's from Staford himself, and they have offices there! We'll have to see. btw - they close down over Christmas (Dec 22nd or 23rd would be the last day, then closed until after New Year's!). I'm happy about that! Now, to get me on their payroll and off the Agency's payroll!!
Victoria Harbour, ON
Morning all,
Susan, sounds like a job made in heaven, let's hope all goes well and you get to retire from same job..wonderful that you may from time to time visit with you family in Winnipeg, that is a bonus in itself!
Mary you'll so love your new floor..easier to clean especially with Belle in and out. So laughing, poor DS, you are worried when he's mischievous and worried when he's a model son. Lol. Take the hugs and I love you's and enjoy. Must be a lot less drama now that the girls are off doing their thing, now if only work could improve.
Crissy, hope you get up this morning feeling better, nothing like having work demands that need your full attention and you are I'll! snot factory, lol now there is an image...
Judy, been missing you!! These anniversaries certainly take a toll on our emotions don't they.. Your girls are no longer kids, now beautiful young ladies..and to take on cooking, wow, lucky you..might come home to many home cooked meals!
You won't have too many more days to be doing landscaping..you do know what is coming??
Walmart does, already has shovels, winter garb and Christmas decorations out ..yikes they are quick. Glad you'll have more time to visit with us
Ok, got to learn to press 'send' was just about to close up iPad for work and saw post was still sitting here not sent..glad I did not shut it off or my post would have gone 'poofff'
Lyndonville, NY
We had to go to Home Depot yesterday for a few things, and I was not surprised seeing Christmas section set up already and people in there buying! Moves so fast.
Mary, I would be worried too. Shane did that too me yesterday, the hugging and kissing, and within 15 minutes it was "Oh, can Kyle come over for the night?" They were up til 4:00 a.m. watching movies and playing video games...so I know will sleep in. So, I have another extra here for today.
Judy, so nice you are back!! You have certainly had a stretch of hectic times, and you need some rest. I think you and Skittles need to take a nap today. How is the new house remodel doing? Bet your loving that yard.....but sure is lots of work.
Crissy...feel better!!!
Waving to all, going to get some coffee and THANK YOU for all the thoughts and prayers,
Debbie
