Today, I am thankful for...#9

Glad you are better, Jan. :-)

Here ya go, Jim, and in plenty of time for the holidays! http://www.amazon.com/Chocolate-Perfume-Oil-glass-Bottle/dp/B0001YJEBG
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, I am thankful for the evening rain and enough rotisserie chicken carcasses and celery broth saved in the freezer to drop in the stock potwith some corn and melting cheese for soup.

I am thankful for clean toothbrushes.

I am thankful for lots of cotton duvet covers to layer.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am thankful that:

I shut off the television before the last inning, thereby avoiding a self-induced stroke. :/

I had leftover spaghetti, thereby avoiding having to cook this evening. :)

I remembered to bring home a list of numbers to check, thereby avoiding having to go to the office tomorrow. :p

Today I am grateful that I will escape the insane weather here while on a business trip to CA next week. Just wish the snowstorm would have gotten delayed by 2 days. :-)

Grateful for cars that run well, doggie daycamp, and warm chili/fresh cornbread on a cold night.

Tam - Have a good trip, Maybe the snow will be gone by the time you get back.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo thankful that the Lord saw fit to move us to FL and away from Cleveland OH, especially now with the cold starting up.

Tam, I've been tested for so many things autoimmune that it isn't funny, that isn't one of them, but now that I'm without health insurance, and I'm on a good up swing I'm not looking into anymore.

We are getting some nice gentle rain fall today and off and on through the weekend.

Crispy-coated chicken fried steak with cream gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans.

Long sleeve t-shirts.

Happy new neighbors.

Thankful for an excess of basil leading to homemade basil/garlic bread. Hm-m-m, does it still qualify as homemade if you use the bread machine? I say, yes, as long as the machine was used inside your home. :-) k*

(Debra) Garland, TX

If it was made at home and not in the store, it is homemade. An oven is a "machine" too--okay, so its an appliance, but there is little practical difference! So a bread machine does, too, count as homemade.

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Ditto, What Debra said.
My coffee is homemade even tho i use a coffeemaker. I measure my own grounds and water.
Jan, My education is incomplete. I've never had cornbread and chili. I will try it soon. Sounds good.
So you're the one with all that chocolate basil Kay. I'll be down next week to steal some.
Fall is truely here. I brought in all my garden gadgets and container plants. The Christmas cactus is covered with buds.
I am thankful for yarn to crochet.Material for quilting so i wont go bonkers for awhile. Have decided to make some stuff for the local homeless shelter this year. I've always rang the bell for Salvation Army but decided I just can't handle the cold this year.
Vickie

(Debra) Garland, TX

VICKIE! You may have just solved a dilemna for me. Do you work with denim when quilting? I have eight pairs of jeans [we won't go into sizes] that I have worn so much over the years each is shredded or ripped in places that can't be repaired. Like the butt seam. LOL. Been keeping them in the closet--my grandmother was a young housewife during the Depression and she passed that "Use it up-Wear it out-Make it do-Or do without" mentality to me. They'd be great for cutting up to quilt or for rug braiding or something like that. Finally listed them on craigslist 'cause I'm still recovering from Russell's medical and cremation costs. Be happy to send to you if you can use them for the SA Christmas goodies. Know they'd be going to a good purpose that way. Just let me know if you want them.

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Grateful for warm weather, clean house, and dinner in the oven.

Chili with corn bread was very good. Used Bob's Red Mill Medium grind corn meal and the recipe on the back of it's bag.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am thankful for:

Having figured out--sort of--how to get photos from my new Windows-based phone to Picasa. Gave the iPhone back to the boss and found out I sure was spoiled!

The beautiful weather 'round here. Cool temps make a nice change from the baking oven we had just a couple of months ago. We are now in Stage 3 water restrictions, but I never water the grass anyway and the recent rains have been enough to keep the flowers and containers going just fine.

Flexible tape measures.

Willie (black dog) and Zuzu (white dog) at vet's yesterday for shots and nail trims. Willie has been exceptionally possessive and needy since Russell died, so he tries to get right up in the middle of everything I'm doing. :-)

Chili and cornbread sounds good for a cool night. Even though the last week has been warm (91 today), humidity is low and no AC needed. Cool/cold (don't you Easterners laugh at 'cold' being 41). Cool nights are perfect to have those windows thrown open for sleeping! Our bedroom is a temperature war ground as hubby likes it 'nice and toasty', even more so post surgery, and I like the aforementioned cool with blankets. So, I am STILL sleeping on the semi reclining recliner, :(.

Vicki, how wonderful that you quilt and that you are doing it for a cause. I used to do a lot of quilting and loved the creativeness of it all. Below is a jeans quilt I made for my nephew for his college graduation. I use flannel on the back of the 'rag quilt' squares. They are mighty heavy and would keep someone nice and toasty. I saved jeans for awhile. The kids jeans just don't give you many squares, but large gentlemen jeans are the best! I have seen the tops of jeans used to attach skirt ruffles or to make purses or totes. A DG friend uses the waistbands only to attach to crochet purses. I have lost my quilting area to "It makes too much noise" and the invasion of "the office" in that space. Here is my 'cloud' Mobileme site that shows my quilting projects, for all but a few that I did not get photos for.

Darling kids you have there Debra! I love their contrasting colors.

We are thankful for the Humane Society for having this little guy available. My DD picked him out and I will get to have him at my house for day or two until she can take him home. His name is Dexter.

He is so cute. Your little grandogger. You are a cat person though, no?

(Zone 7a)

Yes, 3 and counting but...he's just so darned cute!

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Cute puppy and dogs.

very grateful for humane societies, No snow, and nice sunny weekend.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Hi, quilty!!! Hi, kwan!!!
I am happy you two are back with us. :-)

(Zone 7a)

I'm glad to be back, too. LOL My DD and DGD were here for 3 days. I miss them terribly when they go. ;-(

Today I am grateful to be in sunny CA with heat, running water & electricity. I am feeling a bit guilty for leaving my DH to deal with the premature snow, downed trees and lack of electricity, water & heat. It sounds like it may be back on line in time for my return Fri. Maybe. I am also grateful he was able to buy a small generator to run the freezer & fridge (and laptop).

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

today I'm grateful to have survived the latest attached from father and step (I'm not using the word mother) witch.

I've finally decided that I will no longer have contact with them, therefore they can't pick on me cause they have nothing better to do.

So today is my 1st day without him. Sad yes, but sometimes you have to walk away to keep your live under control. Sad thing is most of the problem 89% is due to step witch.

It turned out to be such a lovely evening.

Today, I am thankful for,

My little Zuzu seeming to feel much better this evening than she did this morning. Wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink. She's going in Wednesday morning to stay the day with the vet for evaluation. Too soon after Russell's death for THIS doggie mommy to be laissez-faire. :/

Having enough candy for the littleuns' - they were so cute. :-)

Making myself go to the store to GET the candy, and then not buying anything I liked. WILL-power! (not to mention the thought of having chocolate malt Ovaltine already at home. oh, i mentioned it...well, okay, Chocolate Malt Ovaltiiiiiiine!!!)

SE/Gulf Coast Plains, AL(Zone 8b)

Candy corn and those cream-filled, chocolate eyeball thingies. You're a stronger woman than I am Debra. k*

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Fruit roll-ups here. No candy. When I was single I gave out quarters. I figured that was cheaper in the long run than having all that candy around and harder to run out of it also. Number of Halloween T&T at my house is always unpredictable.

Grateful for vets who can handle a dog with a slight needle issue, halloween decorations, and sunny mornings.

Zuzu

Anyone who has seen the movie as many times as I have will know for whom she is named. :-)

"Every time a bell rings, an angel gets it's wings."

What a cutie!

Midland City, AL

Sh-h-h, don’t tell Zuzu, but in Chinese her name means ‘Little Pig.’ :-)
Today I am thankful for a Jacuzzi tub and Tramadol. (Jim)

(Debra) Garland, TX

Zuzu likes little pigs, so I guess that's appropriate. :-)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today I am thankful for milk (again), dogs that come when called (cats take a message and get back to you), and stiletto heels. Cain't wear them anymore (I'd break something crucial), and didn't wear them much before (worked for a chiropractor too early in life). But sure did like how they looked on my feet. :-)

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Does Zuzu like to play with those little pigs or chew on their ears?

Thankful to resist the cauldron of candy left over from DD's 18th birthday party this weekend. DH kept asking over and over 'do we have candy?' for the party and the kids hardly ate any! Too much cake too and lots of leftover pizza. THESE kids don't seem to eat much when all together. Not many came either, total of 8 with DD. Funny, we had one of those jumpers with a slide, like little kids have, but bigger. Also a DJ that the poor neighbors got to listen to (icky music and lyrics those young-uns listen to).

This is our 8th Halloween here and have not had ONE trick or treater! Even next door neighbor takes their kids to a housing development where door to door is much simpler.

Thankful Tramadol works for you, Jim. DH has a Rx for it for his Neuropathy in his hands he woke up with after surgery, but it did nothing. He is now on his 4th Rx attempt at finding something that works.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am sooo thankful that Zuzu came through spay surgery okay. Now, as long as the vet didn't find anything else wrong, we're good to come home tomorrow.

I am thankful for the Kroger sale started today. 20 cans of Del Monte vegetables, six cans Hormel Chili No Beans, six cans Cream of Mushroom soup, and two pounds shredded cheese for my sister will add to a lot of dinners for those four grandchitlins!

I am thankful for large appliances like automatic clothes washers and dryers, gas stoves/ovens, and side-by-side refrigerators.

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Thankful for hot soup on cold & wet day, a working furnace on a cold & wet day, and dr's offices that can email scripts to the pharmacy.

Did they send him to PT for the hand?

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

He has had PT in Nursing Care after hospital and at home since release, but it does nothing for his hands. Neurologists (2 so far) have him on some meds for pain relieve and continue to test. One said Carpal Tunnel, another said 'wait 6 mos before seeing me again'.

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Debra, I have just discovered Krogers, since my "MAD" at Walmarts.By shopping their sales,I can get better deals there.Their bread is so much better than Walmart bread. Plus the fact I can always go to Hobby Lobby in Russellville. DD is not impressed. She's gonna stay with Walmarts. Think I'll buy her a loaf of Kroger bread next time. Not sharing this first loaf. I am very thankful for this loaf of bread. Am also thankful for a good dependable car.I forgot to register my car last month.Sure hope I don't get caught till I take care of it tomorrow.
Also thankful for a grandson who makes good peanutbutter cookies and shares with me.
Vickie
Quilty. Sure hope your DH does fine. When I broke my wrist. I had warm sand treatments That felt heavenly. They had this gismo with warm sand constantly blowing over my wrist. Wish I could fix up something like that here at home.

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Have the sent him to a hand specialist? Also you might look for a quality practioners that specialize in any of the following: Rolfing, accupuncture, or chiropractic. I got hit by a car in 2009 while walking out of a grocery store and have had issues with my hands. At one time the nerologist said carpel but that's not been the case. If there is a structural or muscle issue anywhere between the neck and hands then it can cause issues. The chiro used an actuator on the hands and that helped. The rolfer did some work on my shoulder muscles and that seems to have also helped a lot. Accupuncture also seemed to help with relieving the symtoms. If you go this route make sure they are certified.

Thankful for No snow, all night rain (it's been months since we got much), and a warm house.

SE/Gulf Coast Plains, AL(Zone 8b)

“Little pig” is the literal translation of Zuzu. I think it actually refers to a guinea pig and it is usually rendered into western script as zhu-zhu. Amazing what you can learn while toy shopping for the GCs. There is a line of cute, little robotic toys called Zhu-zhu Pets.
Today I am thankful for friends who help with garden task I find difficult to do. k*

(Zone 7a)

I'm also thankful for Cracker Barrel's Pumpkin Pecan Pie coffee. When brewed, it makes the whole house smell like coffee and pie.

I'm thankful for far-away friends who stay in touch, books and Jimmy Stewart.

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

I am also thankful for far away and for 'virtual' friends. I can talk for hours with friends in NJ and PA AND my sisters in TX and OH!

Along that 'virtual' friend line, I have to share. My DD and one of her BFF's that live here more than with their families, and the BFF had someone she knew as a young(er) child here in CA that moved to MI and they 'found' each other again via Facebook and communicated for a year or two. The MI girl recently decided to take her vacation here in CA and the BFF asked me if it was OK for her to stay here with the girls. After the second day the CA girls realized that, in person, the friendship did not work and they were glad to have her go home.

I have spoken about my DG friends frequently and how much more stable we are and how I would not hesitate to visit or be visited by them. But then again we are not 18 and 19 year olds........

(Debra) Garland, TX

It does make a difference, doesn't it quilty. :-)

Today, I am thankful that --
