Best/worse/what did I learn today? Chat with friends..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

That's okay Betty as long as you don't have to cook both of them!!!!! Would you believe my eyes were so tired from reading posts and emails that I had to go lie down for a while??? I slept for over an hour!!! I never do that -don't want to waste the day. Must have been letdown from Thea leaving. She brought me the prettiest tea candle jar and one of those perpetual calandars with a different quilt block for each day of the year. And also some of the prettiest fall fabric I've seen this year. One piece was a panel to make an apron for Thanksgiving. Just love it all and will photo later today. Camera is finally back to working properly again.

Barb, looking forward to your photo's..

Told Aunt Muriel soup was cooking on the stove, which it was so didn't stay for long visit..but. In the short time I was there she managed to give me a big garbage bag full of wool (which I don't need) and a large bag of solis for curtains...now where was she when I made the canope for top of my bed?? Now I get enough fabric to likely make 2 and I don't need it..bit she did go in the freezer and give me a package of butter tarts, that I can use..but shouldn't. Then there is the big tote mom dropped off full of Christmas things..think I will fill a few garbage bags for Tuesday pick up!

Managed to shorten the jeans that Darlene brought over a few weeks ago, just trying to find where I put the canvas for the light piece Darlene's hubby wanted made..hid it so I
wouldnt soil it, where oh where did I put it?

Shouldn't take much longer than an hour to make it once I find it then I can continue working on my scarecrow which is almost done..should run to town for screw and raffia but I can save the gas. Put it together tomorrow night!

Speaking of tea candles Barb, one of the Christmas projects I looked at was a snowman bending down as though he's trying to get his derrière warm. Lol

Hello All ;

Susan - yes - I've heard of that but you are right... I need to get the video and watch it... Thanks for the reminder :)
Betty - well I had bought Pulled Pork/BBQ sauce and buns for 8-10 ladies but with hubby home and teens It's about gone so no waste there. I'm taking you there *when* you visit "Voodoo BBQ" if you like BBQ....
So proud of Noah and his bike.... so great for them to be earning money for their toys...and working for it. DS said he wants to earn money when he gets home from work for shoes... so I need to find some jobs for him
Barb you are right on the less is more... had 8 ladies shown up I'd not have gotten to visit like I did... So glad you enjoyed Thea's visit and the Snitzelfest sounds very fun....
Betty - why doesn't Muriel know how to cook in her own oven?

We've already replanted the oleander in the front yard and cuttings and several other outside chores. I was concerned about Belle eating the leaves/branches of the oleander and they are poisonous.
This afternoon DH will plant a brug in the ground freeing up a pot to re pot a hibiscus and then will repot my Lady Banks Rose and on down .... so sad I didn't get that in the ground in time.

I'll pop back later...

I got an email from Debbie this morning, she's still in the hospital and they're going to probably move her to the big hospital to put her in rehab tomorrow and she's also got to have a pelvic CT scan done in the morning, her abdomen is full of fluid for some reason. I'm worried, she seems to be having a lot of problems.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Lord, don't I wish I could take them away. She has had more than enough for a while and needs time to regroup. But maybe this is the Lord's way of Making her take it easy. We all know she won't do that on her own. She keeps going until the fatigue is overpowering. /some answers would be good so as to know what and how to treat what's wrong though. Tomorrow is Monday and tests can be run - maybe she will have some answers.
I'm keeping her in an hourly prayer for a quick turn around for her.....

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Just got a message from Thea that she and Bernie are home safely and that she will post tomorrow!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, thanks for the update, don't know if Debbie realizes just how loved she is and how worried we all are..Barb, I,m with you, think, although a bit much, but then who am I, the Lord's way of saying,"rest you will little one"!

Let's see, it's been 3 years since Debbie and I went on our road trip and her feet/swelling difficulties started about that time and they never did find the cause..perhaps this time they will.

Mary, aunt Muriel just got a new stove, the setting of the oven is all touch control..took me a bit to figure out..

Barb, they made good time ..how many hours from their house to yours. 6 or 7?

Well I'm so mad at myself, it was Cathy's 50th in August and for some reason I missed it..I'm truly upset and embaraced, lordy, when it's a special day she's here decorating, to think I'd miss her birthday let alone her 50th. Shaking my head..

I'm pleased with my day, accomplished all I wanted to and more..did some sewing for Darlene, finished a quilt block I had trouble with, made a flag cover out of sunbrella, for Mike, finished my scarecrow all except for putting him together, brought out fall decorations and only had to get up at 4am to do it!! Lol

Now it's supper time again! Glad I made big portions yesterday, didn't have to cook...

Kyle dropped in on his way to work, had a game tonight..amazing, hockey is already started..he was telling me he has short hours for awhile, the 72 year old man who worked all the games at the arena has cancer, was going through chemo last year so Kyle stepped in..the gentleman wants his job back, all the hours he can get...which means only a few hours a week for Kyle..that being said, a member of the gentleman's family. Told hockey exec's that cancer is back but he is fighting it, soooo Kyle will wait for whatever hours available!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - Cathy will forgive you, as long as you let her know you are wishing her the best all the time, not just her birthday (and buy her a big pressie LOL!!)
Crissy - thanks for the update on Debbie - maybe HE is saying "rest little one" :-)
Betty - we had 180 people, total, at 2 sittings for the dinner. Not the 240 we'd set up for, but we made over $2400, and that's the best we've done to date, for this dinner.
Today all the leftovers were sold after our church service (at a nominal charge, and veggies were free!) and Bob & I have our firdge and larder stocked again lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow, your group did well Susan making that amount of money..are the funds earmarked for something special? You must be exhausted! Bet you are asking yourself how you ever had time to work.

Yes, a bunch of us are on our way to Meaford saturday for Applefest..many vendors in attendance so will watch and see if she eyes something, either that or I'll give her
$$$ to spend!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

And our movie night netted $63 (we don't charge for admission, just a nominal concession fee). The $2,400 plus is earmarked for running the chuch - we're still low in funds, but we're sure Building! So much better than last year!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

We'll, you all deserve a round of applause!

Miss congenIality 2 only has minutes left then its off to bed..

Night night everyone

Hello To All !

Ah - I see Betty - yes I still don't know all the gadgets on my oven and had it for years... it's supposed to be a convection oven but I stil haven't figured that out... LOL....
You are SO GOOD about bdays... you've got to let yourself off the hook for missing one.... if it were special to her (some people don't really celebrate) I'm thinking she surely would have hinted or someone else would have told you.... Wonder if Kyle's elderly co worker knows all teh good work Kyle has done for cancer research fundraising.

Waving to the Night Shift... Especially our Debbie....

Saying prayers and hoping to have some news quickly.

I'll pop back if anyone wants to chat. Susan that's tremendous all the work and fundraising you've done to help the church ! If that new job doesn't pan out... they should hire you OR you could get a job with a Non Profit agency in fundraising !

((HUGS))
Mary

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

YAY Susan!! That's a good amount to raise!!

LOL Mary, I've never owned a convection oven, I don't understand the term 'convection' lol!

That's a good question, does this gentleman know about Kyle's interest in Cancer research?

Baton Rouge, LA

I don't understand the term "convection oven" either ! Crissy.... we dont' even cook much nowadays......
Did cook Spaghetti tonight...and youngest DSD2 had a young man over for dinner that we like....
DS is trying to earn money so mowed the yards... I suppose he shoudl not get money for that but he does...
Girls do not help with yards so that is "extra"......

I'll pop back in a bit... hopefully we'll have Night Shift back...... ((HUGS))

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Thanks everyone - it was a team effort forr the church. I've worked for non-profit orgs before and am tryring to get into one again. All jobs are hard to get.

Convection oven = cooks quicker and the hot air circulates around the food with a blower, rather than the conventional oven that has a burner below the food and heat the air (no real air movement because there is no blower).
I cooked 4 turkeys in 3 hours in a convection oven on Friday, for our church dinner - Very, Very moist. Also learned from someone that you should cook a turkey breast-down to let the juices flow to the white meat and it makes it more moist! They turned out great! Usually it's 2 hours for an unstuffed 16 lb turkey, and 2 1/2 for a stuffed 16 lb turkey.
With 4 at once in a large catering oven, it took longer.

Morning all..

Best of yesterday was learning Debbie was getting some sensation back
Worse..of course missing Cathy's birthday
What did I learn..that I have to learn the word 'no'

Very little cooking in my oven as well Mary /Crissy except for main holidays so never bothered to update to a conventional oven. I've enough trouble cooking in this one when I do!

Susan, you'll be needing today to rest up..

Coffee and butter tarts are on the counter for you, i'' going to do my hair, tidy upstairs then it's off to the basement, looks as though I was hit by a tornado in the craft room..projects all over! Quick tidy up in order.

Lexington Park, MD

Prayers going out to Debbie. Maybe this is the lords way of saying slow down and rest.
Thank you for the coffee Betty.
We are back from Pa.
Lk love the pot people. May have to try one.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, did you enjoy your trip ? How was the weather, did it co-operate?

Lexington Park, MD

Great trip but rained alllll day on Friday so we went shopping (quilt shops and antiques) DH enjoyed his bday and kids went fishing and indoor pool to swim.No fall color in the trees yet. But relaxed in Amish country.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Thanks for the coffee! Sorry you got rained out Friday Laura.
Susan, I used to work at a Swiss Colony store, and they used a convection oven there for their bakery goods! I was amazed to see everything cook in less than half the time it takes for a regular oven!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

This is copied from the sewing threads but wanted to share here as well.... Our visit with Thea and her hubby Bernie last weekend.....

We did have a wonderful time and most of it was spent just talking and chatting about Everything. I think we solved the problems of the world six times over and in six different ways!!! We enjoyed a dinner here at home on Friday night. I made chicken cacciatore for them. Then Elaine and her hubby came over for coffee and apple crisp for dessert. Was an enjoyable evening. Did I post a picture? If I did I'm sorry to duplicate...
This is Thea, Elaine and I. We sat up late just chatting while Norm and Bernie were in bed sound asleep.

The next morning, Thea and I went to my local quilt shop and Norm took Bernie for a tour of the town. Thea suffered from fabric overload at first. There must be close to 3000 bolts of fabric and she had never seen a shop so large. The owner took special care to see that Thea had any help she needed. It was so much fun to watch her as every time she turned around it was "Look at this!!" Needless to say we both spent $$$$$.

Then we went back to town for Schnitzelfest. Thea comes from Germany and we had fun. There was a OMMPAH band playing and German food and the deserts were also to die for. (We have a German bakery here in town and I Love the pretzels...) They did the cooking and there were all kinds of sausage as well as pork schnitzel. There was sauerkraut and red cabbage and potato salad and rolls. And of course the was German beer. Bernie had some and said it was a good one.

I took Thea to my fabric storage and we pulled some fabrics for her to take home. I have so much and fabric is expensive in Canada so I'm glad to help. We had stuffed ourselves at the festival to the point where we really didn't want to eat dinner Sat night. So instead, we went for ice cream!!!!
Fun way to end a day. Again we sat and chatted and watched a bit of TV and then off to bed we went as they had to drive home the next day.

Up bright and early Sunday morning and Norm cooked a breakfast for us all. They headed out about 9:30am and Thea called at 3:30 pm. They had made a stop for lunch so I figure they traveled about 5 hours. They took different routes coming and going so I'm not really sure of travel times. I know the next visit is for Norm and I to go there. I shall look forward to that and hope we can do it before the snow flies and if not, just as soon as the snow goes!!! Now that I have this passcard, I want to use it!!! I must thank Betty for if it weren't for her, I probably never would have gotten one!!!!

Oh yay, that's great news that Debbie is getting some feeling back! I hope they find out why she's full of fluid, this could be the answer to all of her swelling problems.

Laura that sucks that you got rained out! BLAH!!

Wow Barb, you guys had a ball, you all were busy! Thea I'm so glad you got to meet her, and I'm jealous too! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

3 days off and it took me 3hrs. to get caught up and now I'm able to sit and chat...

Laura, sounds as though you made the best of your Friday..I'd have love doing the antiques and fabric stores even if there had been sunshine! You sure have been researching great parks, don't think you've been to one that you've been disappointed in.

Barb, blame me for having to get a passport, you know you wanted to be able to cross anytime to visit us Canadian gals! We'll be calling you 'roadrunner Barb'..lol good for you, nice to get away.

Should check my passport and see when it needs to be renewed.hmm here I'm planning a trip across the border shortly, might get a shock at the border when they tell me, nope, no can cross?

Sounds as though Norm and Bernie enjoyed their time together as well. Speaking of Bernie's, my Bernie is in your neck of the woods this week!

LindaKay, do you think then I could burn my meals twice as quick?

Crissy, is good news about Debbie, hopefully she'll go with the flow and not try to get home too soon..give herself plenty of time for healing.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I was thinking of your Bernie as I watched the news and they were showing the races. Thousands of people there. I know I couldn't handle that at all. Hope he had a good time!!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty last night they were talking about putting her in Rehab at a big hospital in Rochester. Paul should have gone back to work today which means those 'kids' are going to be left alone.

I am freezing in this office!!!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Those kids better behave!!!!!! She works so hard for them - it's about time they did the same for her.....

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh I know, and they don't show much appreciation for anything she does, especially 'the child'.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hi All - no, Betty - I'm not resting. I'm doing office work for my friend Jackie, then it's off to Downtown (hate going there!) to pay a bill for her. I'm creating merge letters for customers that she hasn't heard from since she changed her ph#
Blah on Rain!
Glad Debbie's being looked after - hope the kids are doing well by her!!
Barb - hahahaha on spending all yours and Thea's hard earned $$$$!!! I'll just Bet her eyes were popping at all the choices!
Well, back to helping Jackie! Cya later!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb, does that mean I should start putting an allowance aside for when I come to visit??? might be safer to send you 'x' amount and have you do my fabric shopping..would be a lot less dangerous.

Ohhh just realized why I didn't remember Cathy's 50th..seems it was you were arriving the next day and I'd have been busy outside...apologized again this morning, she called to say she took Sailor for a walk to her house and would be keeping her for an all day visit. I'll make up for it at our Meaford Applefest visit Saturday.

I so hope the kids so all out and surprise Debbie with spotless house and something nice for her to ohh and ahh about when she finally gets home...body is an amazing thing, once it starts to heal it's only days before you can be up and running!

Guess Paul has to postpone his eye surgery until Debbie is home.

Crissy, can't believe you said you are 'cold'..they likely have the a/c on from when you were in the 100's..you will have to leave a sweater at the office.

Susan, you'll have Jackie's catering business running like a clock soon..now if she can keep it up.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty it's 68 in my office, I have two sweatshirts, a snuggie, and another regular blanket and yes I get laughed at LOL!! In the winter it will get up to 85 in here. It's supposed to be 78* today so yes the ac's are on.

Dang I am soooooo sleepy today.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy you have me laughing..at 68 and you are so bundled up, ow what would you do if you lived here and get -10 to -25. ..I know, you won't visit then right?
How is Dave enjoying his training?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Start saving those pennies Betty. You will just love this shop. They are so nice there and have just about anything you want. And if they don't have it, they will find and order it for you. I need a special ruler (a10% one) and they are getting one for me.....They also do online sales. I'lll try to find their web address for you and you can dream with Thea and I......

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty he's not there yet, he's got a 3hr layover in San Francisco, he could drive to Pismo Beach in the time it takes to wait for the layover, yeah I guess you can say he's not happy.

Wow Barb, you found quite the store!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wasn't he there last week training Crissy?? Same here, by the time you leave Victoria Harbour, get to airport 3 hrs prior, flight and same back you got to wonder if it's not easier/cheaper driving to Florida?
