Today, I am thankful for...#8

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Welcome Dianne and Jan. You will both get a lot from this thread, I believe. Many caring, prayerful members that will help you get through your problems.

Diane, it sounds like your DH did not have symptom early on? My DH did not either and if it were not for a head on car crash this summer, his stage 2 bladder cancer would not have been found. God works in strange ways sometimes. This is round 3 for cancer since 1991.

Jan, hurray for you guys that you were able to get a new start. It is hard to change our lifestyles sometimes, but it is amazing how we can learn to do things differently and probably will be happier with the pared down life in the long run. Those are some beautiful collies!

Thanks for your nice comments on family photos. Yep, I think my Daddy is a keeper!

Susan, I have a Sun Oven. This is the one I bought this summer: http://www.sunoven.com/ It works great and the only problem I had was that I put it too far out in the yard. I placed it where I knew it would never get shade, but it was a hassle going out there to turn the oven on the half hour and a long distance to carry hot food into the house. It can be used as a slow cooker by putting food in there for a longer time and not turning the oven. I have cooked bread for the same amount of time as in the oven, then put a casserole dish with raw chicken and it was cooked for dinner. I have bought a folding redwood smaller dining table to but in the garden to hold the oven. That will blend in better than the big white PVC table I had it on in the back. Also the new table is tall enough that curious miniature pinschers cannot get into the food, lol.

Thankful all my buddies are still here and growing, even though I don't get here daily.

Thankful those 100 degree days of last week are over, but in spite of everyone complaining, they are NOT unusual for SoCal in Oct.

Thankful there are no large fires here in CA, so far. DD's birthday is at the end of the month. Not only was she born during large fires (Malibu and Laguna-both on the coast), but there have been signifiicant fires going on during several birthdays.

Puppies are all very beautiful. Gracie looks like a sweet heart.

quiltygirl - I'm building one today for a solar thermal class project. It's what they call a minimum solar oven made of cardboard boxes, aluminum foil, and a turkey roasting bag. I've heard about the turning issues with some of the ovens. http://solarcooking.wikia.com/wiki/%22Minimum%22_Solar_Box_Cooker

Grateful for chorale singers, church architecture and decor, and for the harvest moon last night.

Jan, maybe he'll get Germany or some calm place in Europe . Prayers coming his way .(for your peace of mind too )
A prayer when life is overwhelming . Oh Lord , Thy sea is so great and my boat is so small .
That came from an older woman that helped break up my first marriage . That's fine , she left me with a great prayer that has been with me for 46 years. It was a good trade .

digger I wish he would go there but he is already knows that his new unit is slated to go to Kabul. His first two times were Iraq.

Today is starting out to be another beautiful day, suppose to be warmer today so I'm heading over to bradenton beach to dig for sea shells, they have been doing some work on the beach and there are hugh piles of sand for everyone to dig through. Lots of fun and you meet some interesting folks.

Today I am thankful for our cooler weather. I can breath without feeling like I need gills and I don't want to run back into the a/c.

Thankful for a big new beautiful garden space. Tony and I (mostly Tony) spent all week trimming ONE big tree. Put tons of dry leaves through the shredder and have huge branches waiting to dry a bit before we can chip them.

Thankful for bushels and bushels of fresh mulch. Give me mulch and manure and I'm a happy gardener.

Grateful for pain killers so I can get some physical work done.
