Mmmmm, sweet potatoes! Thankful those are on my diet to replace Irish potatoes. (Jim)
Today, I am thankful for...#8
Tomorrow,Am looking for sweet potatoes.I can be prethankful for sweet potatoes. A-N-D butter and brown sugar.
quilty, where you at? miss you. [hug]
Quilty has missed this whole thread . Why don't you dmail her Debra ? I'm a bit worried too .
Okay, I dmailed. Didn't she say she was going out of town with her daughter? Maybe that's it.

Today, I am thankful for the timely generosity of friends. Wracking my brain on how to pay electric, meds, and my sister's household's cell phones, all due this week and all the money spent on Russell's medical tests. Got a card today from my friend Shelley in NJ with a $500 check. Supposed to be a surprise for putting in an alarm system due to the two breakins, but she's okay with temporarily using it elsewhere. Love ya, Shel. :-D
I am thankful for flexible contractors.
I am thankful for the rain which has encouraged flowering in my yard. Saw a butterfly in the Lantana this evening and almost got it before it flew away.
What a pretty color of lantana. We have the old classic "Ham & Eggs."
I miss having a cat so today I'm thankful for the nursery cat. He always greets me like a long lost friend when I go there. He was lounging atop bags of grass seed this visit. Last time, I caught him sleeping in the bird feeder. :-)
I saw a funny YouTube video of a house cat chasing off a bear. I guess that means you are well protected, Vickie.) Maybe, I can convince MK and PJ we need a cat to keep away the bears. :-) ~N~
Nadine, that Caryopteris in the background was "humming" with bees. They love it. :-)
I love Caryopteris. I had 3 by my front porch. Every Aug.-Sept. the bees took over. LOL I don't mind but no one would come to the door. So they had to move.
It is so comforting to have you all notice I was gone. I was not gone gone, just occasionally lurking. Don't remember where I left off in my continuing saga that leaves me spent sometimes. DH was released from the hospital on the 8th and I took him directly to the Nursing Facility and he will likely be released from there in a couple days. His follow up appt with the surgeon is tomorrow and they may remove some or all of his 4 tubes.
Yes, I will be leaving for Cincinnati next Wed for my niece's wedding on that weekend. Family will be coming from TX and other states, so I am REALLY looking forward to that. My sis said she would understand if I couldn't make it due to DH's illness, but I said I had NEVER even considered NOT going. In fact, I told her, I may not come home! DD and her friends who seeming live here are driving me nuts. One who does live here was told I would not charge rent if he pitched in to help do things around the house. The other day when I said he seemed not to be doing that, DD said (her mantra these days) "well, you are never around here anymore" (sure hospitals and such take my time). She said they do lots of stuff and that I was hardly doing anything!!!!! I am one PO'd chick. Funny, I do not think 'helping out' it doing day to day cleaning of their own rooms, bathroom and cleaning up the kitchen when they eat and cook. Nor, taking care of the horses and and goats I DO NOT want. Taking care of the 5 trash cans is helping out. While I am gone the other kid and another friend of hers will be here to take care of the animals, but DH will have to manage his own care. Maybe his son will come by frequently. DH does not want to stay at his son's house though.
Today I am thankful (after the above rant you may not think I am tankful of anything) for the great care DH is receiving at the Nursing Home. Very attentive nurses, aids and therapists.
So nice to hear everything is OK, such as it is QuiltyGirl. Perhaps you'll need to be more specific on what constitutes "helping out". Definitely rules of the house as a rent payer should include cleaning up after oneself in the kitchen, own room & bathroom.
I am grateful for my kitties. I get a kick out of each and every one of them. Today I found a milk tab in their food dish and in a water dish. Scirocco. She loves to pick up those plastic rings around the tops of plastic bottles & jugs. She is fascinated with putting them in water and than quickly scooping at the water surface to grab it out again. Whenever I see one in a toilet or water dish, I smile to myself thinking how nice it is that she entertains herself.
Tam
Oh yeah! Specifics are definately needed for young people. The more specific the better. LOL
I'm grateful for my kittys too.Mine are fascinated by paper sacks and plain boxes.
Amargia needs to adopt a couple cats from the pound. A cat is just a must.LOL I did'nt know that till a couple years ago. They bring you the most delightful presents, like bugs, lizards and grass snakes.
quilty, you NEED to make that trip, so I am thankful you are going.
===============================================================
Thankful today for ripe bananas and toast with butter (no margarine for toast, no-no-no-no-badbadbad)
Thankful for expected cool weather tomorrow. Have a lot to do catching up outside while sawing and hammering going on inside. :-)
Thankful for quiet running cars.
I'm with Tam on that one. You might consider estimating the monthly cost of their "free" rent (food, rent, utilities, live in maid, live in cook, cleaners, etc), make up a list of tasks that it takes to run the household, give each one an estimated cost (like you paying someone to do it), figure out what the average cost per person is to live in the house, tell them they need to pick something to do on the task list that will off set the "free" rent costs. At the end of the month they either need to come up with the cash to pay for their amount, have completed enough tasks on the list to pay for it, or find another place to live.
Thankful for a newly painted house. A garage that fixed the car. And a dog that plays "race you" up the steps at bedtime every night. The game makes her happy.
Yep , what SusanKC said. I had a freeloader off and on for several years and he woke me up in the morning , coming in , took my chair and sat with a fork and knife waiting for dinner . B S ! A friend of D H . I got so sick of him , I wanted to run them both off .
Today I'm grateful that my new hens are finally starting to lay eggs. But maybe not so happy that so far at least 3 of them are in fact, roosters! That's a recipe for trouble.
Tam
I'm thankful our 'freeloader' has been gone for 4 years. That gets old very fast.
Thankful the painters are done, house looks good, and that it's a sunny temperate day.
For a little more rain last night and this A M . Not much , but the ground is at least wet six inches down .
For Sam Elliott , what a hunk . he could come live at my house and just sit on the couch and look good .
Oh, no...that's not right. He needs to talk once in awhile. It's no fun unless he talks in that gravelly voice of his.
lol
Glad to hear the house painting is all done & you are happy with it Susan!
I'm back to grateful for my garden & chickens. Omelet w/garden fresh onion,
red pepper, and kale. The gal's provided the eggs and all I bought for it
was salt, pepper & a little cheese. Oh and the butter to cook it in.
Tam
PJ and MK are all for having a barn cat IF I can teach FennyDog not to chase cats so today I'm thankful for the internet where you can find out how to do anything...even teaching dogs not to pester cats. :-)

I am happy with it. Also glad to have it quiet around the house again.
Thankful Russell is having better days and that relieves your stress of having him in pain .
Sam doesn't have to say much , just short sentences like " Come here, woman "
For all the moisture we got last night
To be here on God's beautiful earth another day .
To a house lover, few things are more deeply satisfying than seeing freshly painted siding and interior walls. Especially if someone else is doing the hard work. :-D
They were doing all the hard work which is another thing I'm grateful for. The first couple of times I painted it and it took me most of the summer to get it done.
Grateful for quiet, clean windows (they did the windows also), and nice weather. Fall is offically here.
Indeed! As of 9am today, its fall. Its a misty but warmish day here. I'm grateful to have enjoyed another summer and look forward to the glory of fall colors soon to come.

It is so pleasant to see folks enjoying the simple things. It's refreshing every time I come here.
Yes. I agree it is nice to see people enjoying simple things, here what they are grateful for, and it's refreshing.
It is. Sometimes, we get surrounded by negativity and it starts to get to you. I pop in here and it's all better.
Russell is going to cross the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. I am so thankful for my sister who volunteered to take him, knowing how unbearably difficult it would be for me.
Awwwwwwwww! So sorry to hear that. (((((hugs)))))
Oh , Debra , he was so much better yesterday . He would thank you not to let him suffer any more pain . I'm so sorry you have to go through this . As I've told myself when that time comes for my fur loves , I love them too much to let them suffer one more minute than nessasary, and that's the price we pay for that unconditional love . Just cry and be grateful for the time you had with him . He will be waiting for you when your time comes .Big hugs and I'll think of him often too .
Debra - I'm sorry to hear about Russell.
Tam
He just seemed to collapse overnight. Vet said it might happen that way given where the cancer was so high up on his spine. It was absolutely obvious he knew it was time to go.
I am deeply thankful to have had him, my first baby, for 10 years.
I am thankful the progression was so fast that he was only really "sick" the last 24 hours.
And I am thankful my sister and grandnieces stayed with him until he was gone.
Thankful he had a peaceful crossing .
Today, I am thankful for...
fajita beef quesadillas
the suggestion read in a forum to use plastic tableware as temporary plant markers
finally having the light bulb go off overhead to check FOR a replacement lightbulb for the front porch light (its a CFL with prongs)
Big bear hug, Debra. I know my time with Tate is coming to an end. She can't use one of her back legs anymore, but she gets around on three and doesn't seem to be in any serious pain. For now, she and I limp along together and I am thankful for that. .
Today, I am thankful for squash from the garden and squash casserole from the kitchen. (Jim)
Debra,
I am so sorry for your loss and have shared some tears with you. Those guys just take such a special place in our hearts and even when they are no longer home with us, that place is there, for them, in our hearts. In my adult life, I have been through that with a cat, dog and horse and I still have some tears in remembrance.
What a sweet sister helping you with your burden. It is wonderful you two are so close as to share all the ups and downs.
Hugs,
Lynda
Thank you, everyone, I appreciate it.
