Today, I am thankful for...#8

We came from here:

Sometimes, all it takes to help us through a rough day is to remember to be grateful for the small things. The thread is to talk about anything for which we are thankful that day, be it big, small, or anywhere in between.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am thankful for...

Bees

Butterflies

Butter. Melted on mashed potatoes. On popcorn. Fresh French Bread. OOOH, on BANANA BREAD. Cob corn. Cauliflower. I liiike butter. :-)

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Thanks Debra,

Midland City, AL

So glad you are feeling better, Vickie.
Today, I am thankful to be surrounded by patient, tolerant people. I’ve made more than my share of blunders lately and no one here is rubbing it in. I destroyed the power supply on my laptop when I got it caught in an elevator door. MK is letting me use the Amargia Project computer for work until the new power supply arrives. Despite the fact that this computer is the only one in the house she can use. It is the one with all the adaptive equipment for blind people. Did I also mention I broke my glasses? :-) I have to put in a minimum of four hours at the computer everyday to pay my bills so that isn’t a small sacrifice. .
PJ isn’t giving me too hard a time about accidently using the Amargia phone number on a survey either. He must have gotten 20 or 30 sales calls the next day. Ooops. And, the first one came a little after dawn. He claims he politely explained time zones. Yeah, I bet! PJ is a teddy bear most of the time, but more akin to a grizzly bear when he first wakes up. :-) ~Nadine~

Today I'm so thankful for all my dear sisters and brothers in the body of Christ. They show up in unexpected places to encourage and uplift me and so many others by their mire presence and also knowing that they are praying for me and others that need to be brought before the throne of grace.

(Zone 7a)

Now y'all have gone and made me hungry! LOL And grateful for the entire medical profession.

Also, thankful for the last case of quart sized jars for canning mine and my neighbors tomatoes that I found at Walmart tonight.

Dahlonega, GA

Vicky , sorry you are sick , and glad it's a little better .
Thankful for another day and a good nights sleep .
For those of you that use three or more pillows to sleep on at night , A kids bean bag is the way to go . Best pillow I ever used and can make that couch SO comfy .

somewhere, PA

Good Morning! I'm grateful for unexpected tomatoes from the garden and another pretty autumn day to enjoy today.

Gr-r-r-r. Big bear hug, Vickie. :-)
Today, I am thankful for a resident Cardinal couple, hummers and wildflowers. Even if I don't know the name of said wildflowers. (Jim)

Today I am thankful

That I found the Deep Woods Off
For frosted shredded wheat
To have hardwood and vinyl floors. Easier to clean up after mega shedding dogs. :-)

(Zone 7a)

Jim, those are Mist Flowers. Very pretty.

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Those are beautiful flowers. Thanks for the hug. I need all i can get.
I am thankful for a lap full of dogs and cats. Have I said I really need to do some housework. Also need to go to Little Rock, than Oklahoma the 24th and 25th. Think I'll wait a couple more days.
Talk about irritating phone salespeople. Been getting them too. Has anyone ever, ever bought anything from a telemarketer? NOT ME!! DH use to injoy them. He'd listen patiently, ask them a bunch of questions than politely tell them no thanks. But then he always listened to me too,LOL

(Zone 7a)

MY DH is far more patient than I am, as well. LOL

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

We switch on who is the more patient person. Depends also on what it is about.

Grateful for house painters (who are working on the house), video & audio recordings, and iconic singers.

BTW - I will also be glad when the painters are done.

Midland City, AL

Thank you, Kwan!!! I give ID-ing a plant my best shot before resorting to the Plant & Tree Identification forum. I've had to post there a few times. I make no guarantee my Teflon-coated brain will hold on to Conoclinium coelestinum or even hardy ageratum, but blue mist flower might stick. :-)
Today I am thankful for the fruits that brighten things up this time of year, especially the rose hips. beautyberries and , yes, even Kay's wicked and inedible "Flying Dragon" oranges. They won't be ripe until Dec., but they turn orange now. I'm still limiting her to two pet dragons though. (Jim)

Thankful my three little dogs weren't out when I started to take them for a potty break on leash . Black bear in the yard 10 ft from the porch .Missed a picture , he was gone when I run got the camera.I'm out and about in the day . Hope he's afraid of me and stays away . I'll start carrying my pistol working in the yard cuz I'm back in the boonies .

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Today I am thankful that DH is recovering nicely from gall bladder surgery. They had to cut him to take it out (couldn't use the "chopstick" version) because he has so many scars from previous surgeries.

Dahlonega, GA

Thankful with you Sami

Hemet, CA(Zone 9b)

I've been on jury duty since Tuesday. I'm very very grateful I was not selected to serve on a jury for a case which involved killing and sexual molestation of a 7 month old infant. Please pray for a dear brother in the Lord who is on that jury.

Thank you,
Sylvia Kinnee

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

I feel for you Slvia, But someone better pray and be thankful I was'nt selected. There are people running around that are not human.

Theres nothing prettier than a freshly painted house.

Gallstones are very painful glad for your DH that they are gone.

Sally, Should i start feeling sorry for that poor ole misguided bear? LOL

I have'nt located my beauty berrys yet. Hope they have'nt died out.

When i get sick I get bored and think of the craziest things. Thus I am thankful for clocks. Can you imagine how bad things would be if we did'nt have the means to tell time. So guess I'm thankful for the moon and that the earth rotates and revolves around the sun. As disorganized as i am I am still thankful for organization.LOL

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Sami glad to hear that the DH is doing better.

Glad for pace of rainy days, DH also doing better post surgery, and red pickup trucks on a rainy day.

Dahlonega, GA

Vicky , I know better than put my bird seed so close to the house . I don't know how safe my dogs would be , sure thet would run at it and bark . I had a larger dog get tore up and died three days later . Couldn't catch it to have it to the vet . He was wild and after 8 years , still couldn't touch him . I'm sure it was a bear that he got into a fight with .

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

That would be a hard one. Not being able to catch the dog when he's injured.

Dahlonega, GA

Yes , Susan , it was heartbreaking . I had trapped him several times on my porch and petted him . Gave him goodies , and was afraid of him getting sick because I knew he wouldn't let me get close enough to catch him .What I feared most, happened . I found him in the woods around here and he followed another dog to my home . He lived here from then until his death .He looked like a chow mix .

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am thankful for the steady rain that's been falling for the last two hours. Wanted to do yard work over weekend and this will help. :-)

(Zone 7a)

We finally got some rain, too.

Midland City, AL

Samigal, prayers it isn’t serious and your DH recovers quickly. Been there. They thought I had a tumor, but it turned out to be nothing but a stone tissue had grown over.
Black bear and panther sightings seem to be on the increase in the south. “Spanking” bears (shooting them with rubber bullets) is the only humane way I know of to repel aggressive bears. Naturalists once recommended pepper spray, but now say carrying a can of pepper spray may actually attract a bear. It turns out they like the smell of pepper. If you are caught without your gun, don’t look the bear in the eyes. Bears consider that a challenge. Back away slowly. Now that I’ve done my Boy Scout duty and delivered the proper wisdom, I have to admit the one time I found myself face to face with a bear, I let out a yell that was probably heard throughout the county. (Something bear experts advise you not to do.) But, the bear let go what I assume was the bear equivalent of a startled yell too. We both ran…. luckily in opposite directions. lol.
Today I'm thankful for nice in-laws. (Jim)

Good Morning! Today I am thankful to still have my parents in this world with me. I am driving to take my dad to a Cirque Du Soleil performance. He's just so excited to see us and get some help with a few chores at his place.

Thankful for the new performing arts center in KC. We spent the day there for a community open house. http://www.artdomi.com/2011/08/20/performing-art-of-moshe-safdie%e2%80%99s-kauffman-center/

Gormet food trucks with pulled pork sliders with asian slaw.

Community gardens.

Balck bears are back in our area for the first time in years.

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

We had bear problems last year. Turned out a neighbor was feeding the bear and he had lost fear of people. He was shot by another neighbor.
I don't have to worry about my dogs chasing bears. They're in a pen with a house doggie door.
I caught my black cat(Miss Kitty) chasing a deer. She might go after a bear.My bet would be on Miss Kitty.I know she can climb a tree faster than a bear.
I am envious of gormet food trucks.
Am thankful for being over a cold and for Chili and tamales.

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Bummer on the bear issue.

Ear plugs, architects, and builders.

(Zone 7a)

Ooooo, chili and tamales...now, I know what I'm having for lunch. LOL

Today, it's heavy dew so I don't have to water.

Dahlonega, GA

Had chili last night . Tonight it's grilled rib eye , and baked sweet potato .Frozen blueberries and ice cream .

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am thankful for the rain last night. And for the fact that this tree was across the street from my office, not in front of it.

Yes, you have. :-) I'm happy I'm not the backhoe owner. That chunk o' tree smashed the controls and broke some of the lights.

Food banks are great. Thank you!

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Yes. Better on the other side of the road.

Looks like quite a haul on the sweet potates. :-)
