Best/worse/what did I learn today? A chat with friends..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Would like to ask that you keep Janice in your prayers tonight. Her surgery is tomorrow and I'm sure she'd appreciate it..

Met her several times and she's just one of the sweetest ladies..as I sit here tonight I think of how worried she must be..hoping Stacey or someone is able to get news to us concerning how she's doing..

Think I have her telephone number, will try to call

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks form the reminder Betty, will add them to our prayers.

Hello To All !

((HUGS))) Janice, and Ann and Dianne and Warren.... and Shirley !

Dianne - I would love to go on the morning walk with you tomorrow. I sure do need it ! I will reciprocate and bring you on a walk down the Beach this weekend. During the Tropical Storms / Hurricanes they are expected to have ! lol.

Dianne... I sure think a melt down every once and a while is ALLOWED..... You ladies don't realize how much I learn from you all and how much I look up to you all.... you are all so strong..... ((HUGS))

Thunder - Happy Bday ♪♫♪♫ to your Dear Soldier ! Thank you to him for keeping us safe. I'm reading "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader" for the Military. Bought for my Dad's bday in October but reading it first. Lots of excerpts of military life, trivia, hero's stories... etc.

Susan... Thank you for the advice. I have really been caught up at work and DO need to relax and Do need to take some time out for myself... very good advice....

Waving to Barb, Laura AND EVERYONE else.... Well - I cancelled the accommodations near Dad's and added 2 nights in the Condo on the Beach.

it was affordable but while it is supposed to Thunder & storm all the time we are there I DO NOT CARE ! Need the break.

I am a very lucky lady.... left my NEW purse, NEW wallet, NEW Drivers license, NEW debit card ETC on the ground at a table outside a coffee shop today... DOWNTOWN !. Drove 4 blocks away and sat in my car making calls then realized what I did. This is not like ME at all.... Luckily I called and the gal at the shop found it... I gave her $20 and Huge Thanks....

I am not that kind of person at all to do something like that.

Verona, ON

Oh Mary I bet you can think of lots of things you and DH can do even if it does rain and there is T and L.You need this time Mary for yourself and also for you and DH to enjoy each others company without any distractions.Leaving that new everything behind just tellls me and reinforces the fact you need a rest.

Susan it sounds like you had a good time camping. Enjoyed your pics!

Betty how does your tummy feel tonight? You sure don't need an upset stomache on your long weekend off.

TGIF everyone. Even though we are retired DH and I still look forward to the weekend - silly eh?

Baton Rouge, LA

I think I would Too Dianne ! (Enjoy the weekend) I mean you spend all your years looking forward to Saturday and Sunday... something special about it.
You have inspired me.... I went to find the game we bought on our last weekend trip and packed it... If nothing else.....we will play dice all weekend ! LOL (It's called "Farkel" I'd never heard of it but DH found in the tourist shops when we went to Natchitoches)

DSD1 is there (in Natchitoches) and has been texting me pics from college football game tonight. I stopped by Walmart with DH and bought her "Care Package" stuff today. So just found one of her games and packed that as well. DSD2 will drive to visit her. And bring the stuff with her. Nice for them to have a weekend together. DS will be left at home alone BUT I do think he works all weekend.

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, I love love love playing Farkel! It is a game on FB also. It is so addicting.

Sure hope the "impending storm" doesn't mess with your plans, and I know this is what you both need, to get away.

Dianne is such a smart woman isn't she? I would love to be on those morning walks also. I hope your Stormy had a nice birthday!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - how are you? Are you over the chills, etc?
Mary - my goodness you Are lucky! I'll bet the young woman at the restaurant was surprised by your generosity, too - Bless you!! Here's hoping the weather behaves and you can get away.
LOL about looking forward to the weekend - me too! and I'm not working so it doesn't make sense to me either LOL
Dianne - melt away here - we love to be your shoulder to lean on whenever you need it!

Love & Blessings to all of you!
Nite nite!

Baton Rouge, LA

Debbie - I had never heard of Farkel.... but DH was surprised to find it....it brings back fond memories for him...until we played it that night.....and I kept beating him ROFLOL! Thought it was a Louisiana thing so neat to know you are familiar with it !

Yes - I learn constantly from you all! Dianne and You too Deb ! and Susan and all.... Love you all to pieces....

Yes- Susan - that was lucky... don't know what I'd have done if something bad had happened! She wouldn't take the $20 at first but started to tell her the story of how I'd lost it all and made her take it....

If I get 1-2 Days with out rain...I'll be blessed.... if not...well I'll be getting away from all this.... so can't lose either way.

Didn't risk taking my "new work" laptop so by tomorrow night will just be checking the phone for you all.... so not sure I'll be writing a bunch but will READ all you know I will keep up... and I'm there even if I can't respond....

((HUGS))
Mary

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Good thing you're not taking your laptop! We'll miss your postings, but fully understand why you wouldn't want to take a chance of losing it!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I didn't make your night shirt, seems though I'm on the graveyard shift, that's what I get for sleeping all day!

Laura, you'll be up early this morning, anxious to leave on your visit..remember now, you must stop many times or you will put your back out and not enjoy your visit..bring your camera with you as you must take a photo of her opening her quilt. She has no knowledge if it right..can you imagine how special she will feel?

Dianne, when I first retired I'd never know what day it was as everyday was a holiday but some reason dot excited when a long weekend came about! Melt downs helps keep your sanity..it's those who keep everything inside trying to be overly brave that end up ihaving a nervous breakdown. Can't even imagine how good it was going on a stroll with your sweetie. As for Ann, dud call her last night, two old friends had visited with her, planned prior to her injury and had just left, neighbor was having tea and she was expecting mellisa for a four day weekend. She was in good spirits! Won't be until she finds herself alone that she might fret again.

Mary, omg, just goes to show you that your mind is pre-occupied for you to leave your handbag at the coffee shop..can you imagine having to do through replacing everything again? Glad you found honest staff, could have been disastrous

You are preparing for bad weather, hopefully it will only be late evening/early morning storms and you,Dianne and Debbie can have some downtime walking the beaches...nothing like waves rolling in..perhaps you'll even get to pick up a few shells.

Ooops eyes are getting heady, better try to get some sleep!
.

Lexington Park, MD

Coffee is on and DH making eggs and pancakes.
No my sister does not know about the quilt. And I will take pictures .
Need to see where that darn hurricane is.....
To all have a great weekend and when I walk on the beach today know that all of you will be with me.

Laura

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Hurricane is down in Gulf of Mexico Laura. Shouldn't be a problem for up here yet unless it's rain on Monday . Katia is still too far away to be a problem yet...

How are you feeling today Betty? You must have needed the rest for you to sleep like that during the day. I hope today is much much better.
Glad to hear Ann is doing okay. I think you are right though about her doing well while company is there. Hope she does gets some kind of signal system to wear when she goes outside....Send her my best please....

Sending extra prayers this morning for Janice... I'm sure she will come through just fine - she is one strong lady. She has had a lot to deal with this year. Hopefully this will help her kids realize how precious life is and that we are not always going to be there for them!!!!

Mary, I hope you can take a stroll on the beach for me too. As Betty can tell you, walking is getting more difficult for me with each passing year. And walkers don't work well there!!! I mailed Whirligigs to Debbie yesterday. I so loved it. I just finished reading "The Help" which I enjoyed as well.

Keeping you in my prayers too Susan that you will hear good news soon about the job. I am glad that you and Bob got to go away together and have some down time...

Norm is off to work so I must get busy too. Have a great day everyone!!!!

Good Morning!!!

Thunder I missed your Sailor's birthday, so HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!!!

Mary Mary Mary!! You must be extremely preoccupied to leave your purse! I know you're going to have a blast!

Betty hope you're feeling better!

Yes, there's a tropical storm or hurricane or something in the gulf, it's supposed to be a slow mover, hope I get some rain from it!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, am feeling better..who could not be with a long weekend coming up even though they are calling for rain for Sat. and Sun. but I've a lot of projects I can be playing with so not concerned!

Crissy I also would like rain, would save me from watering lol
Do hope the storm that is brewing doesn't form into something of a danger..guess it's that time of year correct?
Are you done your projects Crissy so you can spend time with us?

Keep watching the clock and thinking of Janice..prayers please!

Lyndonville, NY

WOW! Barb, I got Whirlygig in the mail already!!!

Thank you

Victoria Harbour, ON

Fast travelling Debbie!!

Was just seeing how quiet the thread is, Laura is probably on her way, Mary about the same, Judy is probably swimming in the lake and planning a fire tonight..

Susan, you going camping?

everyone is so busy...

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - went camping last weekend - can't afford it again so soon. Bob seems to think we can, again, if we have the funds for the motorhome's fuel.....
Well, this am I started making my Christmas cakes. I'm making about 10 so I can take orders for them in the Rent-A-Table sale our church is having Oct 24th. I hope they sell. For those that don't appreciate alcohol, please cover your eyes for the next bit....lol After they're baked, I "steep" them in spiced rum. I uncover them every week and add more. Ususally I start them the end of Sept, but as the sale is only 4 weeks later, I won't have any ready. I intend on bringing one, selling 1/2 and using the other 1/2 for samples. I hope to sell them for $20/each full cake as it takes about $20 to make 2 of them - full of fruit, and almonds and of course plenty of rum lol They're the size of an angel food cake pan or Bundt cake, so they're quite large. I can only make one or 2 recipes per day. If I have more cakes than are ordered (I'll hang onto them to ripen until 1 or 2 weeks before Christmas), I'll use some for my family's Christmas presents.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Susan, I'm so hoping you'll get orders. Are they similar to Claxton cakes other than the liquor?

Wind is up now and storm is a brewing. My evening plans will entail a leisurely bath, put on comfy jammies , watch a movie, leaf through decorative magazines and just enjoy!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh Susan you got my attention, now that's my kind of cake!!!

Wow, I want y'alls postal service, DANG!!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - it's a dark fruitcake. Don't know what Claxton cakes are......
Crissy - whadda ya mean, ya want our postal service? Ya think I let them know I send out rum-soaked cakes? LOL none of them would reach their destination!!!!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Glad to hear you received Whirligigs Debbie. I just loved it!!!!!! And yes, that was fast!!! I only mailed it Wednesday morn.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Similar to Georgia Claxton cake..means you will be just a chopping and a cookin. Lol

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Thanks much Y'all for the Birthday wishes for my Soldier. It was a very hard day for me, I am always proud, and always miss him...but when it is his birthday....I just really want them all to come home!!!! Birthdays are "my meltdown days" I did get to "talk" with him via instant messenger..no skype tho :( connection where is is now is not good, goes on and off..so skype does not work well :(

bigger ribbon to the left in photo is Sept 1st's ribbon, between posts on the right are August's ribbons, went down the driveway starting closest to house, now working across the front of the house....

I spent over an hour on the phone last night with Judy, we had a very good conversation..we "connect" in ways I can not explain.....I think she is on a "healing" path. I am praying this time away, will bring her further down that path...please keep sending her (and Steve) love and prayers......it is so very hard to lose a dear friend , and she asked me to tell Y'all she sends big "arm wraps" !!!

Dianne, hooray for Warrens walk !!! and I do have a Sailor too....so the confusion is understandable :)

Love and hugs to all

Betty - I looked up Claxton cakes and they are pound cakes, with a lot of fruit such as pineapple, and raisins. These are not Claxton cakes.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thunder so glad that Judy has a friend in you and that she is able to confide! Think from time to time we all need a friend like that! I hope the ribbons can soon be set in a box and never get to see the light of day.

Susan, my grandpa owned a bakery and each Christmas he would give each family 2 layers..one for Christmas and the other for new years..he also made all his grandchildrens wedding cake before he died! I remember it set in liquor, why am i thinking brandy? Muriel has his recipe so will as her for it so we can see how similar the ingredients are..

Moving us over,

ummmm betty - that didn't work.

My Christmas cake is a dark fruit cake and yes, it says to put brandy in it. I cheat and put grape juice in it (it gives it as an alternative) and I always "ripen" it with rum.
