Best/worse/what did I learn today? A chat with friends..

Just went and read back up on the thread as I couldn't remember which friend had passed Betty. You will not believe this but my friend who is going to hound me to paint - her last name is Maurice!!!!! It is her married name and her husband is very big into geneology. I must ask if they have relatives in Canada!!!
Got two placemats ready for binding. Must get back and quilt the other two. Trying to get all my swap commitments done so I can play with all the goodies I brought home!!!! They are still all over the living room!!!!
Norm was in the north country yesterday and went to the covered bridge that we took Judy and Steve to last spring. A big branch went through one side and some of the embankment was washed away from Irene but they are saying it can and will be repaired. I'm so glad as that bridge is special to me now....
Back to the sewing....

I'm back at the cafe, reading all the news, trying to keep up with everyone.

I will see both my primary care doctor and an orthopedic person in San Diego next Wednesday. I'm hoping not to need the knee replacement for a while yet but have been having a lot of trouble with my left knee and it's been going on for about fifteen years and is now getting worse so I may have to bite the bullet and get the surgery done. I have Kaiser coverage and I've gotten very good treatment there. Had a bunch of small surgeries about fifteen years ago (carpal tunnel, cataracs, and a nonmalignent tumor on my right index finger). Wish my hand doctor could do the knee but they specialize.

Tony didn't come to work today. Maybe his father has a health problem. Hope it's not Tony sick. He never just doesn't come - there's always a good reason if he doesn't who. Was thinking again how lucky I am to have him. AND that I'm getting good about asking for help and putting off anything that might be hazerdous when he's not with me. Especially now when it's so hot that any moving around could be dangerous.

Barb, it's surprising to find relatives where you least expect it..Sharon has been working her butt off on our geneology, so time consuming..we have relatives all over. I give her credit for sticking to it..yes, his name was Marc Maurice..the family name Maurice is a well known name, hundreds of them in this region. A real french Canadian name...

Went shopping for p.j.'s for the swap at lunch..managed to find something nice..seeing I was the first to get mine I don't want my swap buddy to be the last to get hers so tomorrow I'll go out and pick up matching sock and get it sent out before the weekend. When I post from Barrie pkgs. seem to arrive a lot quicker..don't do the gravy train trail I guess..goes directly to Toronto for distribution.


So glad Barb you said that repairs can be made to the covered bridge, what a shame had you lost it. I see on the news they've lost several in Vermont.

Katie, let's hope Tony isn't ill and that he's much to do and will arrive in the morning to see what needs to be done before you leave. Hoping and praying you'll not need knee replacement. So hoping you'll have an enjoyable vacation..how much better is the heat factor in California compared to Mexico..cooler?

Sharon just called, she was in Michigan the last 3 days, had one of her show dogs in kennel..went to pick her up Koors (Coors) and the dog was in pain...that was yesterday, this morning she took her to the vets, had xray's done and there is a giant size mass near her shoulder blade..now on mega drugs .. did biopsy and she'll find out in a few days if it's cancerous..if it is because she's 12 Sharon will have to put her down..she's just devastated, her dogs are her life!

OMG feel like I'm the bearer of bad news when I post these past few days..best I find something sunny to write about.

Betty - bad news is sometimes "just life" and we share all here.... if you weren't able to share the bad along with the good, you would only be 1/2 here. Thank God you are here, and we're here to share with you. Would you want us to stop posting because we didn't have good news on a particular day? Of course you wouldn't.
So, post away, everything that's on your mind. If it affects you, we want to know.

I cannot relax this week, not sure what it is..don't know how many times I told Suzanne to man the phones while I take a walk in the mall but then I do same for her...didn't earn our keep this week! Hand will be shaking on Thursday, pay day! just short jaunts..lol

Always tend to feel bad on long weekends, so much going on with wives/hubby's and here I am alone that I have myself a bit of a pity party so try to manage filling my time with travelling or projects..

Sooo Saturday it will be Meaford if it rains and then the rest of the weekend perhaps redoing my bedroom..paint and wallpaper shop down the street, think I'll drop in on my way home tonight and see what they have that is in black/white/red..might mean repainting the bedroom first, not sure sooo I'll see what is out there.

Betty - when I was married to my ex, I often wished I were alone (and I was, most of the time, as he was a trucker). However, now that I'm with Bob I'm glad to have someone in my life. Guess what I'm saying is that having someone in your life isn't worth jack s*** if it's the wrong someone. Be glad you're alone, rather than with someone Just to be with someone. It's no fun at all, and you end up being other than who you really are. You're a wonderful person Betty, and it would be difficult to find another like Roger for you, to be in your life.
After my Dad died, people thought my mom should find another man for her life, but she didn't want one, and it's been over 30 years. She never talks about Dad, and I I'm sure she thinks of him often, They were married for 35 years, and really enjoyed each other's company.

Oh Betty - what a shame about Sharon's dog. It was such a pleasure to meet her and I feel so bad...... She must have left the cottage shortly after we were there!!
Have your heard from Ann today? I can't get her off my mind and have visions of her hobbling around!! And dear Kathy - have you heard anything there?? Now that I have met these people, they are so real and dear......

Thanks Susan, it's not as bad as I make it sounds, just sometimes like long weekends it's hard to fill it..I manage though! I know for a fact that although your mom does not talk about your dad, not a day goes by that she doesn't think of him!!

Barb, Cathy did get her ultra sound yesterday morning, not likely she will hear until Tuesday!! I will call Ann later, she was having company last night and today si I'll wait an hourvor so before I call.. Yes Sharon will be devastated is Koors has to be put down..the show dogs are her life as you could gather when you spoke with her. She did pick up the moccasins that afternoon at Fort Ste. Marie, went back to the cottage then home..she's had a busy week..
Lordy, was going to go wallpaper hunting but tummy wasn't well so here I'm home, blanket on me and think I'll have a nap..if I feel like this tomorrow I'll be staying home!

Hello All ! Well the day started out okay... my direct deposit finally 'found' my new checking acct. My new debit card finally arrived at lunch. SO..... I made all the ressies for the trip.

Just started reading all's posts and Dad calls.... his wife's son is having health problems. I am NOT cancelling the beach condo... I may see if they can take us 2 days early... BUT it is a bit frustrating to have to cancel/change reservations not 6 hours after thinking I had all planned out. Hmmm not the first time they've cancelled a visit.

Susan - well good luck wiht the 2 possibilities... is there one you prefer? I remember they were similar. LOL Betty on the Pool party - I'll have to google around and find that news.... any specifics on where that occured?

Barb - so glad the bridge was not destroyed... you just don't see those old bridges anymore. Katie - glad to see you post again. Hope the San Diego Trip will be a nice time as well as DR visits.

Well - I've got some thinking to do on this trip. Maybe it's just fortuitous .....DH and I needed some time together... now we'll just go to the beach and visit with my sis a little.

Glad you have more days left that you can tack on a few extra days and great that Lance can also take additional days! What a treat place to take an extra long weekend.

Mary - the one I prefer would be the "temp to perm" because it's full-time hours and better pay per hour - it's also closer to home however it's not a guaranteed perm job, but I would take the other one if it were offered, of course - 60% time, and lesser pay however it then means I would get a long weekend every weekend!! lol
Mind you, no job is guaranteed permanent is it?!?

I am Ok, busy day today.....another tomorrow. I broke down and made banana pudding with wafers. I think I lost 9 lbs...and its all going back on!

Send me a few prayers for tomorrow. Going to need them to get me thru the next two weeks.

Well - I am really trying to see the bright side of the plans changing but am bummed out. I'd be more concerned about the son but it seems this is the 4-5th time they've cancelled visiting plans at the last minute. I shouldn't be so callous... his blood pressure apparently dropped really low... he is younger than me... perhaps 42? I used to get 4 weeks a year with old job but only 10 days since taking this new job 2 years ago.... it's killin' me.... LOL....

Susan you are right ! Well hope you get the one you want... You're right - no job is permanent.....

Hello everyone.
Thank you so much for all of your prayers and encouraging words.Had a little bit of a melt down after DH's apptment with the Palliative Care/Pain Management Team last Friday. The apptment itself was 4 hours and that does not include the trip in and back plus the time he spent having a blood draw.The Doc was really impressed with how well DH is managing - she had figured he would be wheelchair bound by now. Lots of new meds and I think we can see the difference already. Fingers crossed here!!! DH goes a week this Friday for a review with this team. It was mutually agreed that Warren for the time being will be able to stay at home. I know he was very worried about that issue.
Lurked everyday here on DG but it doesn't mean I can remember what I read. I do know Barb and Norm had a great time and have developed a taste for Timmies.
It is my Stormy boy's eleventh birthday today. It seels like yesterday we picked him up. He certainly liked his BD treats - a fried egg and a couple of just out of the oven Peanut butter cookies.
Need to move on before I fall asleep right here.......remember to do something nice for yourself tomorrow ladies!

Mary - leave it to the Lord. You'll find yourself relaxing more and giving yourself time to relax more. There's only so much you can do by yourself, and then it's time to hand it over.
The last job I had would have given me 4 weeks, and I was really looking forward to it, but since I lost that job I've actually taken more time off and allowed myself to do so. Give yourself that luxury too, Mary. If you can't physically take the time, hand your concerns to the Lord and you'll find yourself enjoying what time you Do have, more.

Good to hear that the Dr is really impressed with Warren's management and that he will be able to stay home for awhile yet - here's hoping that indefinite and he continues to maintain his health to this point. Been going over the trip in my head and I can't believe what a wonderful time we had. We met so many of you friends and you are imbedded in my heart now.

Got the bindings on all four of my placemats. Just need to hand dew them down. That's a good job while in front of the TV.....

Extra prayers for our troops .

Slept all day, had the chills a few days ago, then yesterday spent a lot of time in ladies room ( not as pretty a Sassoon as Hancock Bldg. Washroom) lol. So no Barb you didn't wear me out. Loved every minute of it...with fall coming and having 1 knitted sleeve, neckbands and waistband thought I'd make a quilted sweater, could you please check the pattern and see if I've made notes re needle size and stitches required for me please!

Thunder, sending prayers for both you and your family as well as our Sailor boy..can't imagine how families get through everyday living and of course special celebrations ie birthday, thanksgiving and Christmas...glad your DIL and granddaughter will be visiting..gives you something to look forward. Will either of your sons be home for any of the holidays?

Lots of traffic on our main highway #38 - all headed north and most with boats on trailers behind them.Went into Kingston today to do a big shop at the grocery stores and WW - prices are so much less than here in Verona. Big surprise - Warren came along, so I KNOW the new meds and the dark chocolate that Barb and Norm brought up for him are working.. He basically sat in the truck or on a bench but he got out and it wasn't to go to the doctor.
Betty I had no idea that Meaford was about 1 1/2 hr drive from you. So your closest metropolis would be Midland or Owen Sound?

How wonderful Dianne that Warren was able to make the trip with you, put a smile on both your faces I bet. I am less than 10 minutes from Midland, 1/2 hour from orillia and about 40 from Barrie and 11/2 from Toronto so I'm never without a shopping metropolous!

Would get all I want here in Midland if it weren't for fabricland closing the it doors, sure do miss it.

I bet you do Betty! Our village Pharmacy closed down about 7 years ago and we didn't have a replacement until 2008. That meant we had to travel at least 30 min to get an Rx filled. Now that was a pain!

Dianne, that is good news that he went out with you! Hope you bought more chocolate!
