Laura, don't you be laughing, already into Christmas shopping and I KNOW that snow could be here 6-8 weeks and you know how quickly that goes.. just saying, I'm keeping snow compared to LindaKay and Mary's 105-110 temps..

I must agree with you Betty. I just can't take the heat. I can always add layers of clothes if I'm cold but there is only so far to go when you are hot!!!!

Drats, Sailor has flees, put collars on him and kitties, don't seem to be working..called my vets to get vantage, they will not give it to me unless I bring all 3 in and have them weighed..not a problem, however they open at 8:30 a.m. (time I start work) and close at 5:00 (I get off at 4:30) so I have to wait until Saturday..I've been spraying all over..want to get something done for Sailor..bought flea shampoo to bath her tonight but then I'm worried as she pulls out her hair when she frets that the shampoo might burn...might just have to come in late tomorrow morning

Oh poor Sailor!!! Where could he have picked these up Betty? He doesn't go far or has he been galivanting? The sweetest dog in the whole world is Sailor. And the saddest eyes! The kitties are so different. Missy is a true love and just loves to be petted. Riley does NOT. But so sweet they are.....

Well, my interview went well at the Care Facility, and I believe I presented myself well. They would require a 2nd interview, and this one with the VP. Don't know when/if that would be. They're hoping to hire before the close date of Sept 9th (said they needed someone 2 years ago! lol)
I'll keep you updated.

Betty, you can get some flea powder at the stores, that works pretty good, and it won't hurt the open sore. You cal always place salve on the sore before you apply anything else.

LindaKay, great idea about the salve prior to my shampoo'ing which I shall do as soon as I get home..will take her in to the vets in the morning and come in late..not leaving her as she is until Saturday..

Must tell you though, I called 4 different pet stores and all were out of treatments..say there is an epidemic with fleas going on..hmmm not good!

Barb thank you for your kind words, Sailor is indeed a good girl, you saw her at her worse for 2 days seeing she was fretting about the weather..imagine, she knows a storm is brewing before we do.

Susan, let's hope you get a call shortly saying you've the 2nd interview, at least with that deadline you don't have to wait weeks on end.

Ann just called to say she wouldn't be coming over to play bingo..she fell last night and broke her leg, now has a cast....stubborn, went to put out her garbage and passed out, had to be rushed to hospital for stitches..will drop in to see her tonight for a few minutes..drats and more drats

Crissy, could be sand fleas but fleas are fleas..

Fleas are very hard to control. Betty, if they are bad, you will have to treat your yard as well, other wise the furries will go outside, and get them all over again.

So sorry to hear about Ann falling and breaking her leg! OUCH! Give her hugs from us, and let her know we are sending lots of healing prayers.

Just called her back, she couldn't stop crying, said she was having a pity party, told her she deserved to have one..got more out of her..

She was at a friends with another couple last night, when they got off Ray's deck she said she really didn't fall but ended up putting all her weight on her foot and knew it was paining. They put ice packs on it, her hip was sore so she said she'd go home to bed and this morning she'd be ok..

Tooks meds and said she slept till early morning, when she got up she knew something was wrong. Told herself that the garbage had to go out to the roadway, Barb, you know how long her drive is to the roadway..anyway, she grabbed her keys, she wanted to put the bins into the car trunk but only made it as far as the arbor that she could feel herself get woozy..grabbed onto arbor but fell..when she came through she tried screeming out but she lives pretty much in bushland..she wondered why the ground was wet near her head, ran her fingers through her hair to find it covered in blood..she thought if she could crawl to the car and drive to the neighors, few hundred feet, and she could lay on the horn she'd be ok..

The came in and brought her to the hospital..2 broken bones in her foot and several stitches. She is expecting company who don't know what has happened in the next hour. Asked if she wanted me to do shopping that she had planned on doing this morning but she said she'd have them do it..said it's been a hard week..her daughter turned 40, they went away both daughters and herself to celebrate the big event but it was extremely difficult..mile marker and no dad!!! brings home reality to them. This week and this weekend she had a lot of company coming in order to get through another week..drats..not good!

oooooh poor Ann - stubborn her, sounds like my DH - he got all his teeth out years ago, and after he got new ones put in I took him home to rest. He was NOT to drive while on T3s...... I went off to work, leaving him with meds and lunch by his side. Did not have to move until I got home (unless he went potty lol). Well, he was chatting with a friend and decided to drive to the job site. When he got there, he went to the back of the truck to get his lunch so they could eat in the cab of the truck. Friend wondered what was taking him so long and couldn't see him, so he went to the back of the truck and found him face down, passed out. He's broken 2 of his new teeth and smashed his face up pretty badly and Boy Was It Swollen.... cut his lip, etc. I had a pic of it, but it went to recycle along with my cell phone - no way to transfer it to computer........ siiiiiiiigh. Would liked to have kept it as a reminder to Listen To Me When I Tell You Something!!! LOL

oooooh Ann is having one of those terrible "Firsts"...... I expect Christmas will be another one....... anytime they expect dad to be around, they will have a really tough time of it. I will remember her in my prayers. Poor family.......

We're all stubborn I guess, don't want to let others know we need help..I know I'm no better..call for help and if they don't arive as I'm setting the telephone on it's base then off I go and do it myself..actually I'm kind of proud of myself..bought some large pieces of slate maybe 4' x 3'..weigh a ton, see them leaned against the tree when they should belong at the foot of back deck steps..I want them placed there, took all my time to get them out of the trunk and promised myself I'd wait till Greg or Jeff drop in..and would you believe I am..spend a few days nursing a sore back from doing such stupid things...

Back to Ann, said she has to start taking her telephone out with her, make a pouch of some kind that attaches to her waist so if she's ever in need she can call someone or 911..she's second guessing herself about living in the bush..she's not really, but is far enough from people that extra precautions should be taken..

that's exactly where they are at..Mike was going to make such a big deal for LeeAnn turning 40 and here no dad..I remember all the first..I survived all of them and kept my sanity, was almost like playing a game...ahhh next is my birthday, next is Easter etc.etc. and then when New Year's day came and it was the 1st anniversary of Roger's death it really it home, NO MORE 1st's this is reality, he's gone and we'll never see him again..that 2nd year was pure hell...

OMG Betty. I KNOW how long that drive is and I can't believe she was going to try to get the garbage out. The poor soul. I feel so bad for her. Please let her know I'm thinking of her and sending prayers for quick healing and NO pain. I must get a card off to her and a big Thank You to you too....Please keep me up to date on what's happening with her - please????
Sounds like good advice from the girls about Sailor too. It could be just the thing!!

Edited to add --- Could you perhaps get her one of those fanny pack things. It's worn around the waist .....It should be big enough for a phone...

yes, when you live alone and far from anyone hearing you, you do have to extra precautions.... There are a lot of realizations she's coming to, now that she's a widow. I will definitely keep her in my prayers (was anyway, but now I have a new line to add to the prayer - that she keep safe.....)

Barb, will tell her of your concern..won't drop in after work as the girls will have arrived, I'll call just to make sure though!! We'll find her something..problem is and I certainly understand it, that neighbors / friends have offered to help but you keep thinking to yourself that for the rest of your days you have to manage so why not start now.. knowing Ann she'll take precautions when next on her own..know she is hesitant about remaining on her own all winter..lots of decisions to be made! I just say don't rush it, give yourself at least 1 year without any changes..

Than you all for your prayers....am sure she needs them now as much as she did before.

Lorry, watching news and they are showing Vermont, what devastation..as well as in NJ. How people fet through losing everything I don't know??

Well, Sailor has had a nice warm bath with flea shampoo, didnt see any fleas in her coat but wanted to make sure ..what a good dog..I lifted her in and she just stood and let me shampoo..she's not happy about being on back deck but she'll soon be dry and can come in...I just sprayed all the rooms and beds in hopes if a few came in the'll be dealt with.

Should get busy and get something done either inside or outside but bingo starts in an hour and so can't start something that I cannot finish in an hour.. Maybe I'll stick to moving the hose around in the gardens, so dry!

Betty - Norm says not to turn on the stove if you are going to water the garden!!!!! Truthfully, we are so proud of you going all week and not burning anything!!!! Even Kyle was impressed. Norm wants to know "How's Timmies?" Are you keeping them in business for us???

I'm mad, nobody to bring it to me first thing in the morning so I'm going to boycott Timmies..really they should have delivery shouldn't they???

So laughing, you tell Norm I haven't had supper yet because I knew the gardens and Sailor had to be looked after...I see how it works now, if you stay near the stove you don't burn supper...guess I have to wait until bingo is over before I eat..

Gee whiz, what a day filled with events, Kyle just came in, said he was walking downstairs and tripped and thinks he broke a few toes...not hurt bad enough that he couldn't visit with grandma..said he went today to apply at galaxy theatre for part time work while in school..he has a job at arena again but he thought it was worth a try because you get to see free movies..wonder if grandma can as well?

Forgot to say that Cathy was called in for her ultrasound at 7am this morning as the doctor's office said it was an emergency..not sure how many days to get her report but this is terrific, beats November

I couldn't believe a phone call I got today - talk about coincidence!
I interviewed this am for a care facility, with a panel, of which one was named Shannon - she set up the interview
This afternoon I got a call from Shannon (from an agency) asking me if I would like to be considered for working for a care facility.
Both places are very close (3 miles for the furthest) and 1 1/2 miles for the 2nd.
The first one is 60% time (.6 FTE) and is a permanent one.
The 2nd one is a "temp to perm" which means I would be hired on as a temp, but if they liked me, they would hire me permanently.
Very much a coincidence that they're both for care facilities, and the interviews would be set up by a "Shannon" and both very close to home and I would interview or hear about them on the same day!! lol
Sounds like the Lord is trying to get me back into a care facility's office as an administrator!

Susan, that is fantastic, odd isn't it?? Sure it's not the same one? Let's hope out of the two you get one of them..now if Bob could be as lucky.

Who knows, maybe I missed a few numbers..he got himself a blackberry torch and was showing me all the features, quite a telephone..I am impressed that it has a 'personal guardian', not knowing a lot about phones I think it's a great app to have...if you feel you are being attacked, in trouble you press a button and without showing where you are calling it notifies 911 of your exact location...am sure you are all pros with phones and know this feature.. Then we picked a call ring for grandma..says 'it's your parent calling, be nice, they are old.. ( didn't have the word grandma but this will do). I told him to key in 'an idiot is calling, don't answer' but he wouldn't..so in his 1 1/2 hr. visit I did learn all about the torch..

Well, thought maybe the midnight shift might log on before I call it a night but am too early.

Yes, I'm sure it's not the same one. They work for different companies - one for Employment Agency, and the other for the Care Facility.

Thea hope you got to have some fun in the yard today. Laura - so we are Both headed to the Beach... nothing helps my stress level better than watching the waves.... Take some pics so I can see what Virginia Beach looks like !

Betty - the vet used to give us Capstar for the dogs fleas. it works so quickly that you don't put the dog in hte car after or all teh dead fleas will fall off them BUT you have to treat all yards and house at the same time.....DH uses Talstar.

We have not had fleas since April or so...and THAT is VERY ODD.... maybe Belle swimming? or the Record Heat?

Barb - ((HUGS)) I have to laugh at myself because everytime someone has said they Love Whirligig I have to read and re-read that part of the post 3-4 times. It just makes me THAT HAPPY! :o) I have loved all his books (Paul Fleischman) but sent "Seed Folks" to Betty and it's tops on that list....think she sent that one on....

Daybreak is here, alarm went off at 5 and I said to self go back to sleep!got up at 7'mluckily nothing to do so managed to make myself a coffee as I've a few minutes left before I take Sailor to the vets..she looks pretty! Loves a ride in the vehicle so it will be a treat for her. Sprayed carpets so think all will be ok..Darlene said she saw just a couple on Missy, Riley spends all her time outside but I checked her last night, didn't see anything nor did I on spSailor..best be safe..Aline has vantage, bought a box so Darlene will stop in this morning to do the 2 of them. I'll feel better once they've been looked after.

Mary, should check how much vacation I've got left. Lol. Let's see if I left early Friday morning and Debbie and I drove right through could be there Saturday for lunch, spend Sunday and straight drive back..yikes we'd be tired!! And I wouldn't mind a spot on the floor if it makes it easier.

Oooh Mary, did you hear about the party someone had as a get together before school starts..she posted it to her friends and over $3,000 kids came, police had to be called in, charges laid..they were showing a film clip, couldn't even see pool for kids in it, actually couldn't even see the yard... That will be a party she will never forget..

Sailor and the kitties have all been treated with vantage (advantage?) and bought enough to bring me to 2012. Had her nails done while I was there, thought I might have had to make an appointment but they said no, they had time! So, just a tad over $100 to make the furries happy.

Managed to get to work taking only 1 hour off. Suzanne answered my calls, nobody needed me so all is ok in my neck of the woods..can't seem to settle in this morning, no sooner got here went to admn office to request a letter slot be installed (Paul bought what is required)..then went to Zellers for Western/homefries, I didn't eat last night nor did I have breakfast and my tummy was growling..here it is not quite 10:30 and I've absolutely nothing to do.

See that I have the bag with moms crochet squares so perhaps I'll sew some together..did bring some supplies to repair 3 watch bands that I have which were purchased at CrackerBarrel..beaded bands get changed on watch each and every time I change color of clothing..I'll either make a mess or manage to fix them.


Suzanne's son Bryan is dropping over tonight for sewing lessons..wants to know how to use sewing machine seeing as he's on his own and thinks it something he should know as he can hem or repair clothing..I'm sure it will be fun.

Thinking of calling Cathy to see if she would like to go to Meaford on Saturday, lots of little shops..it's about 1 1/2
hour drive, spend morning looking in boutiques, quilt shop, candle shop, Meaford Warehouse that has absolutely everything and is about 2 blocks large and could be home by early afternoon..I could take Cathy out for breakfast which is a tread and it's always a treat for all she does at my house..hoping she's not ill.

Greg just called me with funeral arrangements..Sunday evening is visitation at the funeral home in Penetanguishene and then in the morning Monday is the funeral

Glad you got the fleas under control Betty, those things are a pain and the real only way to keep them under control in your house is to vacuum 20 times a day.

Betty you know that flea stuff expires, right? I used to give it to Tiga once a month so I never had a flea problem until she was gone. Go figure LOL

Without fleas I vacuum in the a.m. /when I get home and again in the evening .. Greg is highly allergic, put him in the house for an 10 minutes and if there is 1 flea it will bite the hell out of him..he was here the other night, no bites so imagine I'm ok in the house plus I've been spraying morning and night.

Someone else Crissy told me that as long as they had a kitty they had none (maybe all were on the kitty) and it wasn't until they were gone that they had flees..yep go figure.
