http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1212465/

So here we are, praying for those in need...enjoying each others day, in awe of time spent with long time dg friends just met and dreaming of those we'll soon meet..

Barb and Norm will meet up with Debbie tomorrow, both will meet a very special person, can't wait for the postings!

Online shopping for Tim Hortons coffee. Not too bad at $6.99 a pound.

I'm Here!

Just back from Rochester, rained most of the wait, just annoyance, nothing bad. SHoulder is healing nicely, still some swelling from where the bone was removed and also the inside bone shaved....but feels much better than before. SO, go back in two months.

Excited to see Barb & Norm, however I am concerned that they should honestly just head home. The weather reports are NOT good. My friend who lives in CT said the stores are EMPTY of food and batteries already....it is total chaos out there.

DH is doing fine, said there is no pain in his elbow at all....matter of fact he cleaned the kitchen while I was gone.

Busy morning, things to get done.....so will pop back in a bit.

Debbie

mulege, Mexico

A quick not to let you know I'm still hanging in. No puter, little a/c, some long (18 hours) blackouts. Makes getting ready for trip to Ca. very slow. I'll be there next week or the week after.

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

safe travels Katie :)

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Katie when I drove down from CA to Mulege it took 2 days, but that was in a rented motor home with 6 other people and the tires on the thing kept blowing, and we had a hole in the water tank, and something else happened with the gas tank or fuel filter or something.

That isn't bad LK!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just had company so got nothing done, omg I think I nodes off once or twice. Lol

Doing laundry now and sorting out my craft room then lazy evening..looking at the time, 2:00pm and think Debbie they are on your side of the border..of course depends on how long of a wait at customs..would hate to see customs make Norm empty his vehicle..what a time that would be!

Debbie, glad you got good results this morning, means you are listening to what doctor has to say! Good news having hubby home if it means he cleans the house. When will he return to work?

Katie, with all that is going on I'm sure you are anxiously waiting on your vacation.

Laura, worried about you and Jaye..if you can please post often so we don't fret..

AND. Laura thank you for the bundle of fabric...you know they will be be used on my 12 month Christmas project!

Better get moving, can feel myself nodding off

Sunshine out there..guess I could go sit outside for a bit.

Will let Barb do a link to her photo's but will add just a few to give you the flavor of the visit...

Crafting with the girls....

Barb gets to make Victorian Santa sleighs..

Norm was a trooper, while Barb did her Victorian Santa, finishing touches to 4 sleighs Norm worked on floormat and I even got him playing t.v. bingo with us Tuesday night..what a fun time and fun people...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I think you will have to have a bunch of floor mats when we all get to your place next year.
Will you please tell me where you get the beards for the santa's?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Linda Kay, Barb had a couple in mind almost for every room in her house..the finished floormat Barb will have to post..came to take a photo this morning and Norm had it in the vehicle so he'd not forget it..lol

I will give you the address for the beard..Barb took it as well, it's a USA company and it took but days for them to ship them to me..1 pkg. does 2 Victorian Santa's...

Now we were in my neck of the woods here..I lived down the bay from the Big Chute Railway Marina....most weekends we'd bring company by boat and take them up and then down this one of a kind lock...in the rocks you'll see water...deep as can be, kids would dive off the rocks but in las few years there has been several fatalities so as it's also a hydro plant area, they have now fenced it in and no more swimmers..sad thought..

Well my DD#2 awoke this am with sore throat. To dr we went. And the tonsils are infected but no strep.
Got bunny food just in case.
Onto another store for propane.......4 stores later and no propane to be found.
No D size batteries also. There is water in small 16 oz bottles but no gallon jugs.
Did go to wonder bread store and they had tons of bread .
No generators left in the stores and gas lines are 5 and 6 cars deep.
We are not expecting the storm until tomorrow.
Betty so great to see pics of Barb and Norm crafting.
Hint Hint I missed the santa workshop....maybe you will do another.
Debbie good news about your shoulder.
Need to get meds at drug store.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Anytime you want to do one I can ship you a kit and guide you through the project..I pour and paint faces...oh/oh,forgot to give Barb the faces I had set aside for her...will either have to bring them to her or she'll have to come back...wonder if she liked it enough to do so...

If you look at Barb's sleigh you think she painted the santa's but not they are material...think this project awed her as to how simple the technique was and the end result..

Sure hope this storm takes a turn towards the ocean, possible isn't it?
Ahhh tonsils when infected is painful...ice cream/ginger ale on the supper menu for sure...

Lexington Park, MD

I think I have seen that santa beard stuff at crafting stores here.
I will look next time I am in there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Very difficult to find in craft stores Laura..it's about a 4" braid, it's not till you work the braid out do you have the beard..

A few photo's of our visit to Ste. Marie Among the Hurons..didn't spend a lot of time inside the fort as we ventured out quite late in the afternoon but what we did see was enjoyable...lots for kids to do..writting with quill, making candles, making primitive games/toys..fun place to spend an afternoon...

I tried the primitive drill, you'll see the young lady center of photo who was showing me how it worked...think I'll stick to my electric drill..lol

Then off across the street to the Martyrs Shrine, again we did the quick tour..one could spend 1/2 the day seeing the beauties of this church and grounds..almost every country made an area of reflection when the Pope visited the grounds..I was but feet away from him..was the strangest thing, the media went on and on and on about security/crowds/possible threats that the end result was nobody came, was almost embarassing!!!

Then off to the 2nd lock yesterday, Port Severn..our home was just a bay down from this last lock on Trent Waterway, mouth of Georgian Bay..

Cathy enjoyed meeting Norm and Barb..on the photo where you see the bay and flowers, we dropped in to visit with my sister Sharon, they were just getting into the car, another couple seconds and we'd have missed them.. (Sharon and my niece Nikki)! Think Sharon was impressed that Barb knew she had show dogs and knew that Nikki wrote songs and plays all instruments...one for Betty in her good books..lol

Henry's is the catch of the day fish restaurant..normally we go to Henry's on the island in Cognashene, about 2 hr. boat ride but with weather it was Henry's on the mainland...a taste of Georgian Bay fish for Barb and Norm...

Not sure why that post went into cyberspace..

Wrote that this photo was taken but seconds before Barb and Norm were on their way!!!

Not sure who will get me my morning timmies tomorrow. Harvey an old friend had called to say he'd come spend the weekend but call Thursday while we were out to say he got called to Colorado and wouldn't be coming..I so wanted to tell him that he would be in charge of getting Tim Horton coffee at 5:30-6:00 a.m. in the morning..now what shall I do???

Betty thank you so much for the pictures.
Looks like everyone enjoyed visiting.
Back to keeping an eye on the storm.

Lyndonville, NY

OK, I have had a BUSY day.

Barb & Norm called me at 3:00.....took them 2 1/2 hours to cross the border!!!

Anyway, from weather reports......they decided to drive home TONIGHT. SO....
I met our dear Barb & Norm at......

Timmie Ho's in Wrights Corners up towards Lockport. We spent a good hour....over coffee and had a wonderful time!

THank you ALL so much for the hugs you sent......I needed them all so much!

Dianne, your Hug was extra special she said....and I felt it all.

Betty, thank you for the boxes....Jeanna and I are planning some projects....but...I need instructions!!! LOVE the bird houses!

I took one picture...(norm did) but have to load it......and Jeanna is here and we are going to watch a movie. SO...will post it probably in the morning.

Barb & Norm were going to see what headway they made tonight.....whether they would stop on the way.....or drive straight in. THought they MIGHT be home about Midnight.
Lots of TIm Hortons on the route they took out of here!

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, wondered about the border wait seeing it was Friday..drats not good.

Thanks for the update, was getting worried as I knew they would post from their hotel room and should have been settled in by now..

Lol Debbie, no patterns, just be creative.

Omg, Tim Hortons!!! What will Norm do tomorrow morning without Timmies...

I'll be waiting for their post saying they arrived safely.

Thrilled they got to meet you though..kept telling them how special and beautiful you are..now they'll know I wasn't joshing

Night night everyone

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Well Big Smiles here as I enjoyed everyone's visit !
Betty - Good Try sneaking Missy into the vehicle....surely they'd ask for her passport at the border and Norm and Barb would have to turn back for more visiting to return Missy! LOL.... See I know your plan....
What are the Hurons? Looks like an area we would like to see when we visit you....
Deb - sounds like a busy day.... but so glad you got a chance to visit too...
Katie - Computer probs UGH! Are you headed to CA for long? visiting family I believe....

Laura & Barb... Ya'll just please be careful... Even with Katrina we didn't go hungry... even though the stores get wiped out... distribution gets back up and at 'em pretty quickly. Radio, Batteries, Freeze those bottles of water...can help if the electricity goes out to keep freezer cold. I froze LOTS of empty tupperware containers. I like to keep sterno on hand. Stuff for the BBQ pit....Candles, lighters.

I've never heard of a hurricane in your area. I guess I feel protective as Crissy feels when tornadoes head out of their usual path to other loved ones....

Dianne. Sweet gentle hugs headed your way. I like the idea of the urns with various cats, dogs, etc... My mom was like Warren... did not want visitation, wake or funeral but my dear sis saw to it that she had both..... UGH..... Bless you both... and this tough time...

Susan... I love your posts.... you are so knowledgable !

Hugs to all ... I'll pop back in a bit...

Hubby is HOME ALL WEEKEND ! YAY! And supposed to be nice weather. (Sorry Laura and Barb!)

Mary

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Dear friends --- We are HOME. Norm decided we would drive straight through as we had two calls from our daughter asking when we would be home.
It is 1:15 AM on Saturday morn and we have been up since 5 AM yesterday and have been on the road since 10 AM until just a few minutes ago. I will post after I get some sleep. Haven't even taken time to see what has been posted. I'm tired!!!!

Lyndonville, NY

SO happy you are home safe and sound!!!

Rest rest rest!!

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Barb, although quite a strenuous day you had yesterday you'll both feel better knowing you are home to look after what needs to be done incase irene drops in...

Sitting contemplating what I'll get into today and missing my morning Timmies coffee

Verona, ON

Oh Barb my heart didn't have to sink to my feet - I was so worried you were not getting home. Thank Heavens you are safe and sound. Rest up and then we will all be clamoring for details and pics of your visits.
Long hard day yesterday and last night, I am just completely expended of any energy but must keep some in reserve in case Warren needs me. Will, like Barb be back after a nap.
Dianne

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Good morning everyone. I think I can see the keyboard but I'm honestly not sure. My eyes are still tired and don't want to stay open. I'm missing my Timmies this morning, Betty, but we brought some home and will have it when Norm wakes up. We were both up to check out the weather news and now are going back to sleep. Our daughter called a few minutes ago to make sure we had whatever food we needed as she was at the store. But knowing what people are like around here when the hurricane word is mentioned, we knew there would be little left on the shelves here so we stopped on the Vermont border at a store that is open 24 hours a day. We just picked up bread and milk and cat food etc. so if we loose power tonight we are okay. I think from what I can see that we are going to get the pounding rains and possilby flooding. I don't think we will get the damaging winds this far inland. But I've been wrong before with a storm and it is better to be prepared. So - Norm has gone back to bed for more sleep and I'm going to bring in the plants off the deck. I'll be working on a photo show for you of our visit and will be back on later today. Hope everyone in Irene's path is safe. Thinking of all of you along the coast and keeping you in my prayers. And we thank all of you for your prayers for us while we were traveling. It really is nice to know someone is watching for our welfare.....

Lexington Park, MD

Sounds like everyone needs a Timmies this morning.
Dianne and Warren hugs to you both and know you are in my prayers.
Barb better to be prepared just in case.
Will be waiting for the photo show.
Raining and a bit of wind right now.
Worst to come around 2pm.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Keeping you and your family and Jean and hers in my prayers for your safety. We have learned not to trust the weatherman when it comes to a hurricanes path. It can change in a heartbeat. Please post as soon as you can to let us know you are okay. OH, Betty LOVED her material!!!!!
And the ornament is the sweetest ever. What a great job he did!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, almost everyone, will remedy that, my sister Sharon reminded me that I have to get a few invitations out for mom's 80th party here as older people want actual invitations vs. A call so must go purchase some and pick my self up a Timmies as same time!

Dianne, you have no idea how often I think od you and Warren. Having travelled a similar road I know how emotions are raging!! God bless you and give you the strength that is needed to get you through!

Laura, just getting things together and want to post the treasures you and DS sent me..old computer downstairs is as slow as molasses so have patience...laptop next on my list of needs!

Barb, yes I loved the ornament that was sent, I have a special tree in the little cafe that is set up with a tress for ornaments especially made for me, it will be set on a branch with pride..will post a photo shortly.

Glad Norm is having a rest, takes a bit to re-generate energy...he'll be slow moving for a few days and glad to get back to work! Likely you left everything in your vehicle until later today...much to much to unpack when you got home..did border patrol want to see all you were taking back?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, when is your Mom's Birthday? Will you be having a big party for her?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mom's birthday is September 17th, less than a month and it will be here at my home in the gardens...if by chance it rains alternate will be at a facility in town which I've already rented. Lots to do but it is her 80th.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Dropping in to thank our Gracious Betty here and those that pray that none fall victim to Irene.
It's goodnight Irene for us!! Thanks to your prayers, the prediction that we'll just get a tropical storm is true.
The rains were much appreciated, the limbs that fell needed to be trimmed anyway... and all my rescues are accounted for.

Barb and Norm, I'll say this again.. you both make such a lovely couple.
Barb, you must be 'lost' when having to cut short your stay with Betty. Maybe you can plan for another trip?

So, thank you again so much for your prayers. Mighty appreciate them. Hope to see most of you next year!

Victoria Harbour, ON

God willing you will meet up with most next year Jaye...I look forward to it!

Glad. You are out of harms way....prayers do work!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mary, Hurons is one of the Indian tribes of the area..Wyandot tribes, same as Kansas I believe were also here..

Bit of history of the region for you...

Thank you Betty ! I read most of it... seems like a place I would like to visit...

Where are my Peeps tonight? I sure hope you are all not out of electricity...news said 3million people....

Hope everyone is okay.... ((HUGS))
Mary

Lyndonville, NY

I am here Mary, how are you doing?

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Deb ! How did you all fare through the storm? Today was a nice "nothing" day. I did re pot some plants and took a few cuttings for my 9/24 Garden party......

What are you all up to ?

Lyndonville, NY

What storm? We probably wont' get anything....we are way over in Western NY, up near Lake Ontario and Canada area. RIght between Buffalo & Rochester.

I took a look at my plants, my glads are on the ground, most hanging pots are shot....but my morning glories and coleus garden is going crazy!!

Baton Rouge, LA

OH! So glad you are all not going to have to deal with that.... :) Did the heat get your plants ? We have a wild morning glory that is like a weed. My coleus are having heat stroke... LOL...

Stupid question... do you know if you can take "cuttings" of coleus? I wanted to try today.... my coleus are NOT happy
