Beautiful, Susie!
I am home, Sister is doing okay, my Kaitlyn is blooming. I had to take a couple of sideshoots off and am rooting them. Maya is downstairs under her own lite with her brother Alex and her sister Pendulas Pink, and she is budding again. this time they will hold..
Gald your sis is OK Deb. Been thinking of you.
Glad to hear your home, and Sis is OK! Now praying for a speedy recovery!
This is Solid Gold, a cajun Hibiscus from Dupont Nurserys, it is two years old , I took it to sherrys , cuz I was afraid it would bloom before I got home, but it is nowin the basement Garden, and fully opened..I think they liked riding in the car with me, listening to music for five hours..
This plant was outside in front, but I just couldn't have the one bud either dry out or bloom without me..
The peach double I got for Faye has bloomed about 6 flowers while I was gone..
The Arbor is loaded with all kinds of vines, Passi's, japanese I. Nils, Blackeyed susan vine, I. Purpureas, Cypress vine, little orange noah morning glory, I batata " Ace of Spades, Gloriosa lilys and who knows what else.. I had to cut the vines away from the poor sun flowers.. * per Joe*
This was before the other five sun flowrs opened.. Bless him, he watered all night every night, since it was 108, 107, 105 etc,,
I am so glad to be Joeswife.. LOL
Sherry called me today, she was walking around looking at her plants I took up to her and planted.. She thought they needed water.. it was mid day and things were droopy she said.. I told her to wait and see how they looked around 7pm ish.. only 92 there she said..
Geesh, why am I still awake?
Sherry is so funny, she had me take a "before" picture of her right before we left to the hospital.. she was all "posed" like she was dancing or something..
I am supposed to take an "after " picture when I go back after her bandages are off, and I bet ya she decides for re-construct, altho she SAYS she doesn't need any boobs.. her hair is growing back in, looks like chick feathers, really white around the face and neck, and some dark stiff hair mixed in on top, about 1/4 inch long all over right now, told her she will look like a dandelion before long..
while there, I made her a shepards pie, a lemonaide pie, a roast beef with trimmings, a pan of cheese and beef enchiladas, a huge pot of chicken stir fry, rotel dip with cream cheese, boiled chicken thighs for sandwhiches, and some egg and vegetable omelets with cheese. That should hold her for a week or so..
here is the same arbor area in july around the 4th.. lots happend in 50 days eh?
Debra, so glad to hear your sister is doing good. Glad you got to spend some time with her, and sure made me chuckle about looking like a dandelion.. ;) That is so much help to make sure she had lots to eat if she felt like it and easy for her to prepare. No one but us would understand taking a plant on a road trip...rolf.
I gave over an hour talk on tropicals on Sunday afternoon. I worked so hard getting ready for this master gardener training session that I am shot..rofl and relieved that it is over with. First off I lucked out beause we have had some cool temps and got the gardens whipped back into some sort of shape the last 3 weeks. I have weeded, cut off dead stuff, mulched, mowed, trimmed, potted, decorated and organized! Then made outlines of the talk, tagged all the plants, cleaned the house, made snacks, you name it..rofl. Oh yeah, the tropicals were even helping, 4 out 5 hibiscus were blooming, plumeria was blooming (I don't even believe it was blooming the very first time), daturas had blooms, brug was in full swing with absolutely beautiful blooms, buddha belly, alot of perennias jumped into the act, roses were blooming like crazy, daylilies were reblooming, candly lilies, gosh you name it. Speaking of naming it, the way I quickly tagged everything was I got the little orange flags like they use to mark gas and water lines, put a number on it then made of list 1 thru 79 with the names, I had wanted to include the color and a few facts but I would of needed another 2 weeks rofl. I even managed to get enough starts of one of the ee's boa to give as a gift to everyone that came. Then another master gardener gave a talk on orchids and brought different orchids from her collection and had handouts. We almost looked like we knew what we were doing and talking about... ;)
I don't think I have ever had the gardens looking so good going into fall or my fall cleaning done so early... ;) Course we are talking gardens like everyone knows who suffered thru a horrible hot dry summer, so looking good is relative. Oh speaking of great DH, he took out all the area rugs on Friday and Saturday and cleaned them! Bless his little heart.... All that work inside and one person went in to use the restroom...kind of like cleaning before Christmas morning..... LOL
So this week I will water with Bayer to kill the critters in the soil of the tropicals and start working on getting them ready for fall and the winter ahead. Boy it feels good to be this far ahead, guess I should hold a class every August...rofl Maybe I can even get some stuff planted this fall.
Morning everyone! Debra, love that arbor! it is so pretty! So glad to hear your Sister is in good spirits! I know she is so proud to have a Sister like you!
Happ, sounds like you have been through a lot! Any pictures to show us? I like the idea of the orange flags for markers!
Should of thought to take some pics, darn. I was thinking I probably spent 60 hours getting ready for a 1 hour demo....sort of like a wedding! Yeah I was kind of surprised I came up with the idea of the flags, I am not to creative, but the flags pointed out the pots in the garden so they could find them, I got to key the list so I could fix the mis-spellings rofl, and I have a record. Course if I was smart ( giant IF) I would enter them in my journal now before I lose the list. ;)
Linda Kay, I know Debra is still in a hot box, are the temps still horrible for you as well? Our air conditioner froze up on Saturday night, wasn't working so great Sunday (not that it was needed) but if we hit 98 it might be nice if it gets fixed...
Still hot here. It was 108yesterday, and 100+ the rest of the week!
Hi dear friends, Loved all your postings and the cajun Hibiscus is beautiful. Like Brugs, don't think I could ever get to many.
Susie, so glad your Angels did what they were supposed to do. Mine certainly didn't. With the heat and spider mites, I have had 5 decent blooms. And to think how hard I've worked on them, Ggggs! And I'm going to do it again next year if mine survive long enough to get cuttings.
Debra, boo hoo...want to see blooms. So glad you & Sis are good. Keep the Hibiscus pic.s coming.
Lov & Hugs
Faye my only angel that was going to bloom dropped almost all it's buds just before the hurricane went through here. Realy ticked me off. Same thing happened with my Mom at her house. She was getting everything ready for the "big blow" and they started dropping buds all over the garage floor. She is a little perturbed. Says they are too much work. :0)
Hi dahtzu!
We are suppose to get in the high 90's.
I got home last night and my brug blooms were eaten up, full of the yellow and black spotted bug that is sort of similar to a lady bug, they eat squash leaves, pumpkin leaves, rose buds, roses and apparently brug blooms! It has just been a hard year. Glad they survived while everyone was over.
Tell your Mom to remember nothing good comes easy...rofl.
