Best/worse/what did I learn today? Chat with friends

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Coffee is on! sweet orange rolls are ready! I will be leaving about 10:00 to take the boys home. I will be back later this afternoon, early evening.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Have a safe trip Linda...Been busy sewing to get things finished for the reunion and the trip. Time just won't stand still for me I guess. I have the boys today so won't be here until later. I've read all and I'm keeping up but hope to be able to post more. I'm sending love and hugs to all.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, I have been left out of the loop....no one is telling me anything. "The child" said was picked up by Carrie & Andy (in the new truck by the way) and went to their house for dinner.

I asked Shannon what happened....what they wanted?? She just said "We discussed my options" and she went up to bed. She also called the "junk yard" and they are coming this morning to get her car so she has the money to put down deposit on another if she can get a loan.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, that just isn't right, what is wrong with those kids, are they trying to send you off the deep end??? sending armwraps..maybe she should take the money she gets for it and put it towards an appt. and move right out..I'm jumping mad..yes I am..you have been TOO kind...also shaking my head..good mind to drive over there and tell border patrol I'll not hear of you not being able to cross without passport..just must let you through...

LindaKay thanks for the sweet orange rolls, safe drive...now you'll find the house sooo empty!

Laura, missing you, have you been away or locked up in your sewing room

Barb, always lots to do when you go away, I'm only going for 4 days and I could leave for a month with it be just as easy to pack..has Norm gone on the road yet on a job?

know what kept me awake last night...that silly rug..had to be finished so tonight I can give a couple of coats of finish, then early tomorrow morning a few more then I can put it on back deck, painting girls will need the tables...sooo up and at it I was, found all different blues, mixed, added black and got almost to a 't' the same navy blue..just to make sure it would match, I took a roller of the same blue to the already painted blue and voila..drying nicely at home and I'm right on target, perhaps a little tired but on target..got to love it when a plan comes together!

Lyndonville, NY

Cant get an apartment Betty without a way to get back and forth to work.....wishful thinking.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Debbie those kids are rotten! You're the mom for Pete's sake, you're the one who raised them, OMG I am mad too, that's nuts!! I don't understand.

Victoria Harbour, ON

At some point Debbie you just have to tell her 'so bad/so sad' you are on your own girl! let her be the one to worry how to get to and from work...hard love, that's what is needed here...for once you have to say 'Looking after Debbie' is high priority!!!

Crissy, how is your mom doing..yikes a June bug is really big..she must have been frantic...

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, I had that talk after the incident at the doctor the other day. Although we have her covered on Insurance told her she is now responsible for ALL her co-pays & prescriptions, and "personal needs" at the store. Told her she is on her own....I am DONE! AND until she is 21...I legally can't throw her out.

Remember, my Mom, the most loving gentle being ever.....she said "She sure is a hard child to love, isn't she". My Mom adored and worshiped all her grandchildren....but she saw this one right from a young age and nailed it. She is very very manipulative.....DH will not have much to do with her since she was about 14....he was "done" back then.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

It was one of the caramel colored smaller June bugs, it got down to her eardrum! She's having another back surgery on the 16th I believe. This one will be a laser surgery though.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, I would imagine that as a young child, going through cancer treatments she was given priority over other children to some degree, she did learn then how to get her way and play you all and it's continued through the years and you've always felt so blessed she beat 'cancer' that you've never wanted to reprimand her..will be a hard going for sure! Sure don't envy you having to go through all this.

Crissy your mom certainly has been through a lot with her back..guess I'm in mom's goodbooks seeing as the party is back on and at my house..

Lyndonville, NY

Trust me Betty, she was reprimanded more so, always told just because you were sick you don't get a free ride....she got grounded and punished just like the others. ONLY thing she did get "slack" from was eating.

When she was first diagnosed we would have "parent meetings" and one thing they told us from the start...DO NOT baby them. You will create a monster...and then you will have to deal with the after effects. NO, she is not pampered...never was. However, she is VERY bitter as everything has come hard to her....she has had to pull her own wait double....in school, work and life.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Debbie I would say you did everything right, just continue being a parent, she just turned nasty, that's sad on her part! Seems like she thinks that everyone is below her?

Lyndonville, NY

No, thats not it either. Wish I could describe it.
She is going to "bite" before she gets "bit" in life.
She doesn't give it a chance....she is going to be on the defense automatically without even knowing or understanding whats up.

I think....she has lost control of so much of her life...poked/proded by strangers/medical issues....that she is trying to gain control in someways....but is too young and immature to know how to do it...without stepping on everyones from the start.

Her brother and sisters used to refer to her as the "cracken". Rises from the depths out of no where...ready to bite your head off without a moments notice. Walks into a room ready to attack from first step in.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

"stepping in here" Debbie - sounds like she needs to be bitten first, and Hard! Yes, she's been disciplined, and yes, she's had a hard "cancer life" when she was young, but you are doing the bestfor her, and take a deep breath and don't "be" there for her as much.
I haven't had much time to go through 11 days of chat here (and won't be able to, unfortunately), but I have been through "Tough Love" with a teen and know how hard it is to step away from them. You just have to be strong. One of my sisters told me she thought I sounded "bitter" but I was just being realistic about my son.
Continue to vent to us, and we'll support you whole-heartedly!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Ah! Well I had a slew of medical problems when I was a child too and she just needs to Calm Down before she gives herself a stroke, she's angry about it and it's no one's fault, just what life has dealt her and she needs to learn to deal with it.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I agree, Crissy! I used to say that my son would grow up and calm down by the time he was 21 or so...... he's now 32 and we never hear from him. He has his own life (I think in Vancouver). All I know he's still alive cuz he was finger/foot printed when he was born and no one's contacted me otherwise! If he's in prison, he's too embarrased to say, so I haven't been contacted that way!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Yup! I learned the hard way that if I didn't learn to deal with my problems, my problems ended up dealing with me!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Life sure isn't easy is it?

Lexington Park, MD

No Betty not locked in my sewing room.lol
Kids.....no matter what you do ..
Susan pics of your vacation?
Betty I want to make a rug for the kitchen (high traffic) will it work there?
Wavying to all.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes Laura, they are perfect for high traffic areas..I just make sure I give it at least 6 or so coats of Flecto Diamond Satin (or Matt-NOT gloss, as least for me, too much of a shine, cheapens it) can be purchased at Home Depot and maybe WalMart.. I've a few that are 4 years old, some out in the elements, covered verandah but do get wet...

I just love them because you can design and add coloring to match your decor..

At home depot I get a roll 6' x 8' for close to $40.00, then two rolls of tape / paint and Flecto Diamond Finish..sounds expensive but not.

If it's a smaller piece you want, you can go to any flooring specialty shop and sometimes they have misc. pieces you can purchase

Lexington Park, MD

The Flecto Diamond finish goes on last? Do you prime the vinyl with anything or tape out design and start painting?

Lyndonville, NY

Laura, Betty made me a beautiful rug with a chicken....it is in my kitchen in front of sink. The dog walks on it, sleeps on it.....it looks brand new, cleans well...and I just love it!

Lexington Park, MD

That is what I need then. Been looking for the right carpet for the kitchen and nothing I like out there so will make my own.
Thank you Debbie.

Lyndonville, NY

One thing I am impressed with....I thought the linoleum matt would slide...but it doesn't Stays in place very well. I squirt it down with 409....and hose it off outside to dry on the porch.

Lexington Park, MD

That is good to hear. I thought I would have to get nonskid mat.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, depends on how large a mat you want to do..mine does not skid at all, stays in place

Step #1..I mix equal amounts of the flecto with water give the backside of the linoleum a coat..also give the edge a coating..(you are painting on backside not front side)

Now many do not do this step but I found for all the time it takes I do because if you don't you are using up tripple the amount of paint...

Now again you have to consider the size..when doing a large matt, I look around the house for what I have left in acrylic wallpaint..NOT GLOSS..with a roller I roll on the color, I usually always have some white laying around..

Then you design color and design..I've many books, I could show you patterns and e-mail the one you'd like..

My front deck has a little table and 2 chairs..came with placemats and cushions so I made the floormat match..

Also if you do make one, I can lead you through it, there is also on certain areas a solid color, rarely do I like solid, on some part I'll take saran wrap, or plastic garbage bags and with co-ordinating color I'll so some swishing..i.e.

hard to tell you all I can do with a floormat but if you do get materials I'll lead you through step by step..got to tell you, they truly are easy, just a bit time consuming depending on the design you pick

Are you doing this on linoleum or canvas?

katie, who still lives

Lexington Park, MD

Katie I beleive it is linoleum. That is what is on my shopping list so hope I am right.
Betty that is just to amazing a rug to match placemat and cushions.
Thank you and I will let you know when I get supplies together.
So I can use crafter paints to decorate my squares??

Victoria Harbour, ON

matches my dining room rug exactly, wish I had just painted on for living room, tired of vacuuming dog/cat hair..

Yes, they are done on llinoleium.....linoleum...lino....flooring.

Victoria Harbour, ON

The kind of kitties I should have

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, on the backside though..facing the floor is what you normally would put down...also, when purchasing linoleum, try not to pick the real glossy hard surface one, some are soft without much finish..

This one is on the back deck now and is being replaced...rather than throw it in the garbage I'm going to cut off the borders, make it into a hexagon and add blue and yellow border to match guest deck patio set.

Betty those are absolutely gorgeous!! I love the kitties, they look real!!

Lexington Park, MD

Betty I just love the one at the front door. I truely wish I could paint.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - you and I have the same bistro set (your front porch)! We got it last year, at Wally World........

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, you could use the better quality stencils, might give you similar effect, didn't go quickly look at front door but for leaves, ferns etc I cut stencils..if you want to try could ship them to you..even just foliage looks grand!

Lexington Park, MD

Thank you Betty but looking at some quilted looking floor mats. That way can do colors to match my kitchen.
