I wanted to say that it is all coming down to the last game of the season for the Red Sox but depending upon what happens today I guess that's not totally accurate. I am very nervous about today's game and I hate being in the position of having to root for the Yankees to win, but I'll make an exception for today and I will hope and pray that the Yankees find a way to beat the Rays even though they don't have much of a reason to.
Sports Talk!! Part 7
One of the only positives form the Mets season - looks like Reyes will be the batting champ unless the guy on the Brewers gets at least three hits tonight. No Met ever won.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Reyes!
I hope Reyes wins it because I like him and I think he's an exciting player, but I don't like the way they went about it today. I don't think they should have pulled him out of the game after getting a hit in his first at bat. That feels a little cheap to me.
Agree 100%.
Ted Williams insisted on playing the entire last game the year that he hit .406. that was the last time it was done in the majors.
Yes.
Wow - crazy ending to the season!
painful - up till midnight - sox had so many chances to pile on the runs - how did crawford ever win a gold glove?
Do you think the Yankees lost on purpose?
Yes - that was painful. I really doubt it, Jen.
they where up 7 zip - they did what any team would do and protected their key pitchers. they were up one with two out and two strikes when Tampa tied it with a home run. besides they took severa games from tampa through this fiasco when the red sox could not come through with wins.
and i think no one wants to face tampa's pitching in the playoffs
I think Reyes was right to get out of the game....what in Sam Hill were the Mets playing for? Last place? Here's a guy that's an exciting player, who gives 100%, who was too long on the disabled list....he's not one to sit on his fanny.....I'm glad he won it....and no one else was near Ted Williams....he could have gone hitless in his last 10 games......
He could have gone hitless, but would not have batted over .400. Just pointing that out. Do not have anything against the hitter as I don't follow the Mets.
I don't think anyone will break Williams' record....he is an icon...just don't know what the big deal was with Reyes, I've seen it happen before in tight races.....and it's not like the club needed a win.....
I think the big deal is just that it is poor form / poor sportsmanship. What he did is viewed as a little dishonorable by a lot of his peers, the media, and fans.
agreed gsox - play it out and prove your the best this year
tito rumors are flying around here - theo rumors too - will be an interesting day - hope tito stays if he wants too, it may be his decision to leave here.
He is not well. & might find managing a strain. I think he & theo don't get along so it might be who has a better relationship with the owners. Outside of the fact that I think he overuses Papobon, I think he does well & keeps egos in check now that Manny has left.
lucy i disagree about he an theo - they have had a very good relationship from all accounts. if you are right tito losses - john henry believes in theo and brought him back after the gorilla suit episode and had lucino back off and let theo be the gm.
his health has always been an issue. the meeting with the media yesterday was typical for tito, it is his least favorite part of the job and always sprints off the stage when done.
I'm really bummed out about the news that Tito won't be returning to the Red Sox. I'm not ashamed to say that in my own way I've grown to love that man.
if it is his choice and health reasons i understand - if it is the owners another story
Too bad the Mets already signed Collins....and I disagree about the sportsmanship thing...have been watching baseball all my life, & have seen managers protect their players for a batting title....if the Mets were in a race, it would be not the thing to do, but their season was long over.....
So this is where all of the baseball fans are lurking! There is a severe shortage of them over on Cubits and in the Mid Atlantic as well. What does everyone think the playoffs and the Series are going to look like?
Hate to say it (I'm a Mets fan), but I think the Phillies have a good chance of winning it all......
Would root for the Brewers since they play in my hometown.
You are a transplant, Iris!
Happens. I left after marriage when I was 23. Go Pack!
I agree with Bill and GS on Reyes. I just think yo should compete. What if that guy had three hits but lost out to Reyes by a minuscule amount. It would be tainted in my view. As long as someone else has a realistic shot, you should play as normal.
Anyone but the Phillies!!
YAY Phillies!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Granderson - wow!!
LOL. I guess some people can sleep through anything! Hopefully he was sleeping . . .
did they check for a pulse?
Too funny!
Wow - two GREAT games today. 3/4 of the teams I wanted won. Now rooting for the Rangers in the AL. Brewers in the NL, though Cards winning would not bother me. What a story for them this year! Tony should be mgr of the year.
Gotta love it when the heavily favored, overpaid teams that dominate the regular season get knocked out in the first round!
So glad that the Yankees lost. Did the Cards beat the Phillies with all their pitching?
Yes, 1-0...a real pitching duel! I'm rooting for the Brewers....
