Plant Propagation part XXXVIII

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Corey, that sounds like insulation!! Gardening perlite is not normally that perfectly round. I have that little bead stuff in my roof and it is such a PITA. My house hs these rough beams (look like cedar but are larch) etc. and those things come thru the seams.

Gardening perlite is just pieces. yes, kind of round shaped, but very crude round. LOL When I lived in Seattle and had a greenhouse I bought a huge bag, like a 2 cuft of perlite. Ended up throwing it away when we moved.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

BTW, did you all notice the fix they did on this site? Isn't it nice? Sure like it better.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

JB, do not go to "Have hearing aides on Special". Go to an Audiologist. They are a Doctor of Hearing. Yes, you will pay close to $4,000 for two hearing aides, but they will work. Or they will tell you they cannot help you. Do not go the "Beltone Route".

Jnette, you think I talk to Todd everyday. Well he finally called today. They had a great time but could not go near the river. To high and to rapid. DUH. OMG, this boy is a Doctor. Good Doctor but obviously does not watch the evening news. I do not think he gets home in time and then with 3 children, probably does not have time. I do know they do not have cable.

I had a great day, got the bed done, took photos but are still in the camera. Had a great rain, lighting and thunder storm for 25 minutes. No winds but steady rain. I sat on the back patio and watched.

I was out in the garden at 6am and came inside at 12 noon. The gardeners were here so they cleaned up everything I pruned and threw on the ground.

Tomorrow Vern has a doctor's appointment. We are both going to get a prescription for a cane.

Jnette, years ago, after a bone scan, my doctor told me I was not Irish. I was Welsh. I asked her how she knew. She told me my bones were like an Oxen's. She said I would appreciate that in my older years.

But I sat at a office desk for years and the only problem that created was a stiff neck from talking on the phone holding the phone with my chin.

Last comment. A person stopped by today while I was in the front landscape and asked me did I realize how beautiful my landscape was? I told him thank you very much. Made me smile.

Love you ll. Sharon.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

For those of you who are Dave of DG fans, he is starting a new gardening website. If you want to know more about it go to cubits.org and read about what is coming. It is not cubits but those of us on cubits what are gardeners will be leaving there and moving to the new site if we so desire. The other cubits folks will remain there and nothing changes. I am going to move and hopefully there will be a place for tropical houseplants. Most of the people are outdoor gardeners, like you all. I am not exactly sure what he is planning but the outline is there and it sounds really nice. I wish him well because he has done great work over the years.

As for my hearing aid. My eye physician/surgeon has a hearing department in his office and they sell nothing but the top quality products. They examine and serve the regular patients as well as other public. The price range is from $3500 to $6000 a pair. These are called Phonak Audeo Smart. They come highly recommended. I personally would love to say forget it, but as it is I need to be able to hear, especially since I am still driving a car and want to stay safe.

Must get my old bod moving. It is beautiful here this morning. 78 deg. and no humidity. The storms will be here this afternoon again and they are to be nasty....again....We have six old big locust trees here on the farm and I worry they will fall doen before we have them taken down in three weeks.

I have not seen any change in my screen or set up since you have all been talking and complaining about it. Why am I not seeing what you are seeing? Mystery time.

See you later.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Well, here we go again. Just lost everything I had written.

JB, the reason you are not seeing the change, is because your computer did not go with the flow the first time around and change when everyone else did. So now you are on the same page as the rest of us.

JB, you are getting hear aides from your eye surgeon???? Maybe you need glasses. Anybody can sell phonak or any other hearing aid. But do they know how to give you a hearing test to tell what you need in a hearing aid? Do they know how to adjust them with the computer? And then will you be able to adjust them yourself, or do you have to go down there every time you want them turned up?

Sharon, you and Vern are both getting canes? Why do you need prescriptions for canes?

JB and Sharon: I will sell you both hearing aids, canes and eye glasses in a cracker jack box.

I am going to cubits to see what you are talking about JB. Then I am going to get off here before you and Sharon both give me a virus in my computer.

Crozet, VA

Hi folks - you all were very talkative since my last visit. I skipped some of the conversations but did pick up that Linda's cat died. Linda, I am so sorry to hear this. I know about losing dear loved ones that have been around for that amount of time. I lost my Lucky dog last August after almost fourteen years and it was difficult. It will get better as time passes, I promise.

Celene, I also got a kick out of your squirrel chasing dog's name. Really cute.

All the rest of you......hope you have a great weekend coming up. Hope to get some rest here, been a very full week for me.

Ruby

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Jenette, why do you jump at conclusions? You make me sound like a stupid old fool. No, the surgeon does not do the hearing. Did you not read what I said? I will repeat again,
The Eye Physicians and Surgeons office also has a separate hearing aid department with one man trained to give hearing tests with computers and then they print it out and show you exactly what you need. The then fit you and adjust everything with computers.

They also have a special optical department where you can get your glasses fit rather than have to travel someplace else to get them. It is located near a beautiful development where Seniors live, plus a center with all sorts of professional buildings and physical therapy. It was built by the best for the best and they carry the best and you pay top dollar. Now, is that clear? They have offices that provide every service imaginable so the people do not have to travel into the cities.

Actually, the truth is, the animal vet said I needed a hearing aid yesterday so I ran down to the eye doctor to buy one they had left over from one of their deceased eye patients.

As for the set up of the forum, I have blank space to the left of my typing and that is the way it has always been. I have no ads, no nothing.

I am out of here for now. JB

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Are you telling me the seniors build the hearing aids? And that makes them the best and that is why they cost so much 'cause they have to pay for staying at that beautiful nursing home it costs so much.

Did you see if that dead patient had any glasses you could steal? You told us that space wasn't there before. And now you LIKE this big white blank space? Lady you better take those glasses back to that dead guy and ask him for a refund.

BTW, what other kind of vet is there, but animal?

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

You are such a s***! There are avian vets. LA LA LA LA LA smart A**.

No, the ear plugs came from the dead guy. The glasses came from Kmart. The old people do the work and the young spend the money the old people make for them. Why can't you understand what I am saying? HUH!

I need 5 people who are members of cubits in order to have a forum for Tropical House Plants. It seems they will not do a forum unless at least 5 members are interested. No wonder they can not get new members. I think the new site Dave is making will be nice but I am not sure I will survive there. If any of you on this forum would be interested please let me know. Thanks.

Tornado warning. Gotta go. Hugs. JB.........................Nite Jen.............

Perlite:

>> Corey, that sounds like insulation!! Gardening perlite is not normally that perfectly round.

Maybe not every grain is as _totally_ _perfectly_ round as a BB, but to my eye, yes, they are almost all very round and obviously artifical. I might have looked for a cheaper "insulation" type if I had known about it, but I just take what I find at HD, Lowes or wherever, when I really need faster drainage. If I had any left, I would go look again.

I used to use the coarsest sand I could find, but even "coarse" sand wasn't coarse enough to be ideal, and usually included 50% grains that were way too small.

Maybe its an irrational prejudice, but I don't like the glaring-white-artificial way Perlite looks in my soil after I dump out the trays or pots. (I don't dislike it enough to WASTE it by throwing it away, but I would rather spend the money on chicken grit or pine bark.)

Corey

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Then by all means go buy chicken grit or pine bark. You do not want to feel like you are wasting your money.

If you want perlite for your plants, go to a nursery or a garden store and ask for gardening perlite. Don't just go buy any old stuff. Didn't you read the bag and see what it said? How much did you buy, maybe I will buy it from you and put it in my ceiling. LOL It's yucky stuff. It just flies everywhere. The plant perlite is coarser and I think heavier. I think there is more of a reason to use it on plants than just drainage. I will google it.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Ok Corey,

Here is horticultural perlite:

provides aeration and optimum moisture retention for superior plant growth. For rooting cuttings, 100% perlite is used. Studies have shown that outstanding yields are achieved with perlite hydroponic systems.

Other benefits of horticultural perlite are its neutral pH - - - goes on to talk about fertilizer/water retention.

JB, I would gladly do it if you tell me how to use Cubits. I do not have the patience for their money business. Where do I go when I go into Cubits.org?

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I read very little. I will catch up tomorrow.

But one thing. Jnette, I am going to give you a virus, but it will not be in your computer......

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Sharon you threaten a lot. But, just look around you and you are alone. JB is snoozin.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Hey, no one is giving anyone anything. We sell everything. Remember that. Virus come at a price also. Even the kind we are going to give Jen Jen.

Will be back later to BS but now I must get to work. The rains stopped and there is so much to do . Later gaters. JB

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Here is the link to the new garden site Dave has up on Facebook. For those of you on Facebook here it is. Trish is running it.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

JB did you look at that site you posted ? If I wanted to build a clock would I ask you what time it is? I don't want to go to that page. Look at it. All I want is a URL to Dave's new site. I tried that and another one some else gave me, and it was a URL to Cubits. Where they don't tell you a thing.

Nobody seems to have the URL to the site itself. Oh well, maybe it only exists in the dittoheads minds.

BTW, Sharon backs up her threats with action. She wasn't kidding Got a terrible sore throat today. The kind that landed me in the ER 6 months ago. Thanks Sharon. A pox on you too.

Well, going to take it easy today and see if I can't shake this, or at least let it not get any worse so I can get in to the clinic Monday. ttyl

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Sorry, usually they give you some information, you need to ask to be a friend, then I guess they will let you in. The big secret will be announced next week. In the meantime only the chosen few can get on the site. You had to be a member of cubits to get invited. I will no doubt be thrown out because they did not take any suggestions I gave and moved the same House Plant Forum they had in cubits over to the new site and it is moderated by a Canadian gal who I would doubt does much with tropicals. Actually tropicals are a specialty and it just makes me crazy when they put them in the same catagory as a regular house plant.

They have orchids separate and cactus and succulents separate, I am sure it is because they were the same as here on DG. This is why I am not a joiner. You spend precious time trying to help people and then when it comes down to it they do it their way, which is the only way they know, and all that time was spent for nothing. You would think they would listen to people who deal with the public in the categories and try and build on the knowledge they are willing to share. I give up. I am done.

Sorry I am venting but when I see something so simple being made so difficult, no wonder people can not find their way around the different garden sites. I think I will stick to eBay and pay the fees and this other crap can just be a social group. Dave said he wants to eventually have this new site bring in some income for his family. He thinks he will make money on advertising and subscriptions. Wait until that crew finds out it is no longer going to be free ride, then you will hear the moaning and groaning.
LOL

There are some very nice people on that list and I hope they all find what they are looking for. Later, must get back to my cuttings.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Just got an message from the admn. of the new site asking me to think about just leaving the store on cubits for now. I don't know what to do. I see no future there at all but I do not want to just leave them after they went to so much trouble making the store. I hate decisions like this. Crap.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Do they charge for putting the site on? If not, I would leave it. No harm there.

Have to ask to be a friend huh? If not, they assume I am an enemy? Maybe a spy from this site? How many times do I have to say I AM a member of Cubits? Just don't use it. Can't figure it out. Don't have the patience.

Guess that is human nature JB. People cannot see the forest for the trees. If it is simple there must be something wrong with it so let's find out what it is.

Now she is calling our group crap!! WELL! I'll be! I don't think I have ever been called that. Worse, but not that!

So they invited you to leave? Or not be a part of their site? Well, you probably called them crap.

Hi all.... a question about some phlox I purchased. I received a box that looked like something heavy was placed on top of it and all the stems were under stress. I contacted the seller who apologized and offered to send new phlox, but I didn't take her up on it because it really wasn't a result of carelessness or fault on her part... she packaged everything very nicely, it was just that someone along the route got careless. She suggested that I cool them in water in the fridge for a week .... remove the leaves and then plant shallowly and water 3x daily. I didn't have the height in the fridge to do that.. so I put them in water and added ice every day to keep them cool... did that for almost a week... about 5 days... then planted them and watered as she suggested... as I will be traveling soon and having a caretaker in to water and check on the landscape... I wondered if anyone had some thoughts on what I could do to give them an extra boost so they survive and thrive. The are a lovely pink color and I was really looking forward to some pretty phlox in the garden. Right now they are in pots under some shadecloth... hopeful.... but concerned. Any thoughts? Nancy

OK, I don't usually jump into the fray BUT....isn't a bird an animal?

I will be happy to go to where you want to get your Tropical House Plants forum started. Just d-mail me the info, OK?

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Nancy, is the phlox the perennial or annual? I think that the perennial will survive and grow well if cared for even if it doesn't look good now. If it is the annual, I am not sure.

I am not online so much for the reason that I am getting up quite early and working outside for most of the day. My doctor advised me on the sleeping problem not to be on the computer in the evening as it stimulates the brain too much. I feel better and have been able to sleep better, so I am giving it a try. Also I get a lot more done if I am not on the computer, so I will probably check my forums, email, etc...about twice a week. I will try to keep up as we have a few more people now.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Well, Evelyn, I don't know if you want to call a bird an animal it is o.k. with me. In the bird breeding business we went to an avian (bird) vet. He may have also treated animals and was an animal vet also, but, to us he was an avian vet. Our dogs and cats went to an animal vet and the horses went to an Equine vet. In the breeding business you call it what you breed, so you can call them anything you want. I will not dispute the fact because I do not really know. I do know that chickens are not birds they are poultry and the same with ducks and Peacocks..........when we get licenses to breed tropical birds in NJ they are considered exotics and the wild game birds are considered just that, and the domestic fowl are considered poultry. That my dear lady is all I know. You make up your own mind or look it up when you are allowed to sit on your butt and be on the computer.

I am too busy just now. I have just put over 100 cuttings in pots and now I must do my breakfast dishes and drink some water. I am feeling dehydrated, slightly.!

I can not imagine having a sleeping problem in those wonderful California hills. Wow...you must have a lot on your mind.HE HE HE HE......love you.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

EVELYN EVELYN EVELYN WAKE UP. HURRY READ THIS.
I googled "Are birds animals?"

It said, anything that is not a plant is an animal.

I AM AN ANIMAL. HOLY CRAP!

NO WONDER JEN IS SUCH AN A** AT TIMES, WE ARE ALL ANIMALS.

Now look what you started Evelyn. You had better go back to bed.

Jen is sick with a sore throat, does she go to a veterinarian or a physician?
HMMMMMMMMMM! Wake up all you Western Wizards and tell me what you think of this. You are animals. HA! Bet you didn't expect to wake up to find you are not just human. No kidding, that is what it said.

I still say a bird is a bird, a fish is a fish , flies are insects, and people are human, yet, if we are not plants, we are animals. Back to school JB, you forgot all you learned. That was so long ago I did forget that. How about you all. Did you remember being taught that?

Winnetka, CA

Evelyn... these are the perennial phlox.... thanks for the encouragement... I tend to think so too, just want to do everything I can to ensure they make it. Right now they look pretty sad! :0(

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Jen, I never would call this group Crap. Honey, your sore throat is going to your head. I love this group. Speaking of love, I have just told the Cubits Admin. to remove everything I had there. I am done.
I had asked for a Tropical Plant Forum as you know. Trish said you need 5 people, as you know.
A little while ago I was reading some of the posts to Dave and the one girl who makes some kind of ornaments for gardens, they are cute, said she wishes they had a Wildflower Forum. Next thing I know, there is a Wildflower forum.

They are not going to have a Tropical House Plant forum because they already have a House Plant Forum moving over from Cubits that includes some tropicals. That is fine but I had 5 interested people and never got a chance to tell them prior to them making a decision to move the other forum over. Why not just tell me they were going to do that, not make an excuse about 5 interested people. I would have said o.k. fine. Whatever! No big deal.

I have zero tolerance when it comes to some rules go for some members and others have other rules. And, for people not being honest with me. Just tell me, do not beat around the bush or make excuses or lie. So, I told them to remove all my input from Cubits.org. I have not completely quit, but I do not have time for games like that. Let them wonder why I decided to do that and I will politely tell them. I will just fade away quietly and that will be all. I do not want to make any hard feelings among the plant people. Sometimes it is best to quietly walk away. This is one of those time.

I get very discouraged when people like Dave and Trish, who profess to be so correct and nice pull stunts like this. That to me is not being nice or correct. Oh well, onward and upward. Back to work. Almost bedtime and I am still not finished.

Hey guys, forgive me for ranting and raving; I am sorry. I am all alone out here and no one to talk to. Jen is sick and doesn't feel good enough to come out and play so I had no one to take it out on. Thanks for listening and forgive me for being so cranky about this. Love you all. Get well soon Jen girl. JB

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

My my, aren't we testy today. Must be one of those hot humid joisey days. Tell her Corey. I imagine the animal in her is coming out. Lord, she even took Evelyn's head off. Evelyn who we only hear from once a week anyway. Wonder what she did to Dave. He hasn't been on here for a week. She must have made a trip on her broom to Oklahoma and took care of him. Wonder what he did to deserve that.

Wonder if Barney is ok. Gosh, maybe we should have that bird vet check up on him. He probably had to go poop in the middle of the night. Boy, was that a mistake. Should have used her slipper.

Haven't heard from Lee, Dawn, or Katie either. Linda are you ok? Sharon?, Bet they are keeping low 'cause they'll be next.

Evelyn, what is annual phlox? Never heard of it. Creeping and then the tall pretty big pooffy flowers. How do you spell poofy? No, not puffy. Anyway, those. I don't know Nancy. Evelyn is probably right.

No, I don't feel good. Got that darned infection in my throat again. Same as I had in January I think it was, and 2 years before that. Both those times I ended up in the ER. Always happens on the weekends but normally long holiday weekends. This time, I had Bob get me some applesauce to take my pills with and hope to get in to the clinic Monday.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I luv you

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Wish I could go into your square up there and edit it. Yeah sure you do. Just saying that because I'm sick. You want me to get better so you can beat up on me again. All of the others are afraid to open their mouths like poor Evelyn did. Afraid you'll jump down their throats too.

Bet you were a miserable child when you were growing up. I mean getting big. Don't think you ever grew up. Did you have brothers and sisters? Bet you beat on them constantly. If not probably the other kids at school. Probably carried a big stick at all times. Bet even the teachers were afraid of you.

I'm going to watch TV.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

JB, you will never go quietly. That is why I love you. Jnette, stop pretending you are sick.

This is a propagation forum. We need to talk about plants and propagating not your pretend virus.

Dave and JB. I think the trees coming up all over the landscape are Laurel (Bay Leaf) trees. My Queen of Shebia is growing like a weed. I am so glad it came back because I transplanted it.

Jnette, are you ready for your cannas. Is it spring there yet?

The Black Bamboo has two plants turning green.

I have invited Dave is not here over to visit. He is a nice young man that moved here with his family from San Diego. Try to be nice to each other for a couple of days so you do not scare him away.

On my walks in Washington State, I gathered plants from front landscapes and sidewalk scapes. I took cutting but I also pulled weeds to make up for taking cuttings. Well I brought home very small cuttings wrapped in a damp paper towel. Well believe it or not, they are starting to grow. Probably an invasive weed.

Vern's doctor appointment went as usual. He now weights 135 pounds at 5'9". He ate a big lunch but no dinner so I told him I was not buying any new clothes until he started eating or lost another 10 pounds. I also told him and his daughter, I could take him down with one arm behind my back. His daughter thinks I should control his eating.

My power and water bill combined were over $700 so I must turn off the lights and go to bed. And, we keep the house at 80 degrees, which is actually cool.

I will return tomorrow. Sorry. Mother Winter.

Photo of my completed bed. Instant flower bed. Lowe's had one gallon coleus for $3.00. The rest was transplanted from the holding garden. If you are aware enough to recognize Lantanas, they came from Washington state, via hand carried bag from Spokane, to Vancouver, watered for 5 days, and then by plane to Las Vegas then planted into the holding garden until last week. But like everything in Washington, either state or DC, the lantanas were labeled as Rose lantanas and they are not.

Later friends. Love you, Sharon.

Cannas Sharon? Hell it is almost winter again here. What am I going to do with cannas now? Plant them or put them away until next year?

You lost me on whoever this Dave is. Who, where, and when is he going to be at your house? Who is he and where did you meet him? "How do you know he is a nice young man?" What are you talking about?

I think you threw the wrong ones away and planted the weeds.

You are starving Vern to death. That man needs to go home with his daughter so she will feed him.

Sharon, $700 is that a month? If so, you need to move to Seattle where the power is cheaper and there is a lot of water. LOL. That might put a damper on you girl.

What do you mean "if we are aware enough to recognize lantanas:" ? Do you realize you are only talking to me but there are many more people you are insulting? Oh, speaking of your picture, who can see the lantanas? You need to either get a new camera or learn how to use that one.

You need to get a lot of rain barrels and store that stuff. Then you could set up a water stand like a lemonade stand out front in your hotsy totsy "development" and sell it for a quarter a bottle, whoops, a buck and a half a bottle to your neighbors who would stick up their noses in the air at you.

Don't ask me to be nice when all you do is cut me down with the likes of that JB in Joisey.

LOL, is that nice enough for you?

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Ok, now to be serious. When it rains like that in Nevada do you have those floods like they do in Arizona? They have signs to watch for flash floods in the gullies I guess they call them. If so, I could never understand why they or you, if you have them, don't "bottle the water", like in reservoirs? To use for a sunny day. Like other people call it a "rainy day fund".

Seems to me that you could get a lot of irrigation or whatever from them. Even power if it were possible. I could not live with $700 light/water bills. How many months out of the year do you have those? I don't have water/sewer or gbg bills but complain like hell over a couple months out of the year at $300 heating/elec. bills.

I don't know about you down there, but we have a PUD that answers to no one. I called the utilities commission and they tell me the PUDs are self-regulated. How do you like that? They, 3 commissioners, can vote for rate increases for the entire county. Which they have done for the last 2 or 3 years. They don't have anybody to tell them no. Other than to go up for election every 4 years or whatever. Then you have to do it one at a time. Very frustrating. We just kicked one out and the others have already brainwashed the newbie into their way of thinking so we are stuck with him for 4 years.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Hello Everyone! I have decided to get a life other than this internet.

I have things to do, work to be done and friends I need to pay attention to. I have spent too much time worrying about things online that are really not as important as family and friends. You , on the other hand, all are dear friends. Yes, even Jen, but I am sure you too have thought about how much time we spend on this crazy but fun forum. We have gotten way off topic and that is o.k. for this group. This is one special place to pass the time. I adore you all.

My busy time is coming again and I am not leaving you completely, but I am probably not going to be here everyday. Do not worry, I will still make Jen's life miserable if I can. LOL. If I have time, I will check in. I left Cubits.org completely and I am going to participate in the new Garden Group until I see if they are going to be serious or just chatty. If I can make a serious difference for someone who wants to grow tropical houseplants I will. I want to make new contacts, hopefully to increase sales and if that is not going to do it then I will move on. That sounds cold, but I have too much invested to just ignore the obvious. Time is money.

Barney is fine, the flock is fine and I am fine and the weather is 90 deg. and climbing. No other comment necessary. Time to put the laundry away. I had it on the bed all day and I am going to be going to bed mighty soon.

Nite all. JB

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Hello everyone:
sorry it has been a few been kinda busy but we all know how that goes. fighting to get water to everyone I can. finally put in the drip line on the other stock plant bed. took me 3 hours to do but that included a trip to the store and a couple of breaks and getting the rest of the mess sorted out to where I now have 3 free hoses. it was worth it.
Had a nice brunch with the folks for my bday and went to a new organic store. boy they do know how to fry plants. everything was on hot pavement or gravel and it was way too hot. everything looked like it had been stressed for over a month. oh well not my business to run down so I will leave it at the inside store was nice with lots of organic stuff.
Have a great evening all. sorry if I missed a question or 2 I have been havinga tough time at the moment.
Huggs
Dave

Columbus, OH

It must be a bad week. Dealing with my mother's estate, one of my sisters and her lazy, unemployed, ignorant troll of a husband have dedicated two years to making me miserable over it.

I hope this is mostly over and I can joke around here :)

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well, JB, some time we will all move on but it is sad you are the first. But you know what YOU need to do.

Jnette, sticks are for holding up plants not beating fellow gardeners.

Big time storm NE of Vegas. Flooding and 60+mph winds and thunderstorms.

Jnette, we do have a reservoir, it is called Lake Mead. It is behind Hoover Dam.

Dave we have those hydroponic stores in the majority of all the neighborhood strip malls. They are popping up everywhere. They have wonderful products but pricey.. Is your organic store and hydroponic store?

Yes, Jnette, that is for one month. And our home is "green" and energy efficient.
Actually our friends down the street, who have three boys and a larger home have more than $2000 a month in power and water. This is usually for June, July and August. We keep the house at 80 degrees and we have separate air conditioning for different areas in the house. But I have never been able to get the power bill below $200 a month since we moved in 10 years ago. Even with new appliances, it still stay up.

We have 5 Direct TV DVR's and I just put them on power strips and we are turning therm off at night. I read somewhere the DVR's suck energy even in the off mode.

Just glad my family taught me to save money,.

They just had a news bulletin that winds over 80 mph hit about 10 miles toward downtown. Took roofs off apartment buildings and big trees fell down big time.

This is a photo today I took of Moi Grande hardy hibiscus.

Jnette, you are right about my camera. You need a PhD to operate it. I am taking classes so maybe my photos will get better.

This pot of pink rain lilies, I planted a week ago. The bulbs have been in the garage and they must have been holding their breath to get into the soil.
