WOW! When you get a plan in your head, you go full steam! Nice job Betty!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Doesn't do it justice..now I'll be gung ho in search of someone who can help me set up the waterfall and hide the falls container...lol..and, as you know I'm NOT very patient!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

You all have been busy!!

Dianne so sorry your DH is in so much pain, I think I would need help sleeping, I'd go buy some Excederin PM, Tylenol PM, Nyquil, or whatever you guys have up there.

Look at the bunny! How cute!

We didn't do anything this weekend, too hot to garden other than to water, too hot to cook, too hot to do anything. We're supposed to get severe weather tomorrow afternoon/night into Wednesday, I don't know if this has anything to do with tornadoes but we sure do need the rain, over the weekend we had a heat index of 105* and 30mph winds. After a month of 105* heat indexes and no rain that wind sure was not welcome, that dries things out even more than they already are plus the fire danger is way way high and when you live in the middle of a forest, fire danger is not something that you really want to hear about.

Wow Betty that's gorgeous!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, you are getting much same temps as LindaKay..yikes, sure wouldn't want someone to be careless with a match..you have well water right?? so you can water the gardens??? Wonder if anyone is having regular season weather..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - haven't had a veggie garden since we left Winnipeg - 2005.
Will be nice to have one again. Had to wait until no chance of frost at night (in Winnipeg I would have planted a month ago.......). When you're "under the mountains" it gets cooler at night. We don't have a long summer, f'sure, which is why I got very mature tomato plants.

Lexington Park, MD

Betty WOW that is so amazing. Will there be plants in the water?
LK it is a log cabin quilt I finished this year.
I have been moving bunny around the house and locking the doors for the day.
Red Robin is a burger joint. Bottomless fries and awesome burgers. And malted milkshakes.......YUM YUM

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, maybe a couple of different floating lettuce but no more..don't want to create anything like the big pond behind it...

Susan, well it will put in your day..fun switching house/yard duties, takes the boredom away..I did most of the grass cutting as Roger loved to cook and that was a blessing for sure..kids really appreciated it..lol

This is interesting! Learn something new everyday....

Thanks for the education class Betty!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty I don't have well water, I'm on a private water company, which is better because we don't ever have to worry about not having water, but we do have a water meter.

Don't forget to mention Red Robin's full bar too!!

Betty how about some water lilies in your pond.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, you would have a shock if you knew what they charged for water lily's..think you are fined pretty stifly also if you go dig them up at waters edge..I'll finish the falls then go looking for a few water plants..could put a couple of hosta's, they do well!

Glad Crissy you have water and won't have dried up gardens after Dave worked so hard on the veggies and you with your flowers..

Can't you all see just how bored I am..2 1/2 days of non stop work and here I sit twiddling my fingers..

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Hello -

Well, it's raining cats and dogs again. Rained and stormed most of the night. Water everywhere, was running over the roads this morning. We are in a tornado watch besides.

Yes, I have decided I need to look into some grief support groups. I think the worse is that none of the family on his side is talking to me and not even the girls. I have no idea what I did or why. It probably bothers me more than anything. I know life will go on, whether they do or don't, it just makes it hard. I know everything happens for a reason, I am at a loss. If someone would say something, it probably would help. I am not going to beg anyone to like me or talk to me. I'm sure Tubby is just shaking his head in disbelief. Oh well, I'll get past it and life will go on.

Take care my friends and will stop back in later and let you know how things are going. God bless you all and take care.

Shirley

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sending love and good wishes your way Shirley. It's hard when people shut us out and especially so when we don't know why. To me it's a sign of immaturity and it sounds like they have sour grapes over something. Was there something they expected perhaps that they didn't get? As far as I'm concerned, they don't deserve anything just because of the way they treat you. It's easy for me to say to wash your hands of them but I know it doesn't work like that. You will worry until you know the why...But do remember we are here for you and if there is some way to make things easier for you, just give a call...
Have you been able to find a new position yet that will give you the benefits? With your experience I would hope it wouldn't take too long.
I'm keeping you close in my prayers and I hope this will resolve soon for you....

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

(Weeding with Betty)....

Susan - that's a LOT of veggies... YUM... a lot of those I've never tried (growing) too because they are 'winter' veggies here... LOL Dianne... yes - dark chocolate is all you need ! :o)
Laura - Happy Birthday to DS ! Wish I had a 6 yr old around. what a super age... The bunny is precious...I had one at that age too... they are so sweet and gentle...
Betty - How funny they let you take the extra 'rocks'... Your pond looks fabulous and I can't believe it all came together so quickly. Hostas are pond plants too ? I came home from the swap with 4 and only 3 survived... think the smallest didn't make it through the drought during our vacations... So they must love water? We got water Lettuce in March at that Garden show and the Pond Club lady said by June it would fill up our sugar kettle. She was RIGHT !
I LOVE the lotus that Elf brought me.... it is doing Very well... and when I priced them at the local pond nursery... I made SURE DH knew how much $$ I had saved him.... They were like $69.99 !!!
Almost the hotel bill from that swap back in April ! LOL...
Love the trivia.... think we need to get Dianne a pet snail so it can teach her how to sleep for 3 months....
or even 3 hours ?

Thunder - so glad you heard from Kyle... getting close to your trip north how exciting !
SHIRLEY ! I'm with Barb... you are probably better off not communicating with those folks... but I'm like you a "People pleaser" so would be wondering too....They don't deserve a relationship with you... I'm thinking... shame on those people....
I'll pop back in a bit.... NIGHT SHIFT !!! :o)

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Disney trivia ???

Cinderella and ? prince charming ?
snow white and prince Valiant ??? why is it so easy to remember her name, and not his??

what other disney "pairs" can you name???
Beauty and the Beast..... her name is Belle, what was his??? I should know this one, it is one of my favs...second to Lady and the Tramp!

Just a curiosity.....

Baton Rouge, LA

OMG Thunder.... you should know I am a DISNEY FANATIC !

So I need to figure this one out... LOL

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

((((((((((Shirley))))))))))) I agree - they're not worth your time and energy, but I also agree that it's hard to "let go" when they aren't giving you the time-of-day. They obviously have some "baggage" that they can't get rid of, and are putting it on you. It's such a shame, because if they took the time to know you, they'd realize why Tubby loved you so much. You're a gem!

Did I mention that I am growing cucumbers and zucchinis in my garden? YUP - loads of veggies! I'm rather excited - can't wait to have salads with my leaf and radicchio lettuce! I may be able to make Golden Zucchini Jam and Zucchini Chocolate cake!
And potatoes fresh from the garden are wonderful! Especially the baby ones for a BBQ, slathered with butter! yum...... making myself hungry LOL

Baton Rouge, LA

Totally Agree with you Susan !

My Cukes are over 1 foot long! Wish My zucchini would catch up! I love to make zucchini bread.. tastes like banana bread but have NO zucchini as of yet... although the plants look very good and healthy....

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Disney - Belle & the Beast (don't think they ever gave his name)
Cinderella and Prince Charming
Aleta and Prince Valiant
Snow White and Prince Charming (no, "the boy" doesn't "get around", both princes were charming) LOL Guess Walt Disney didn't have much of an imagination, eh?

Baton Rouge, LA

I do know that Sleeping Beauty is "Aurora"...

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip are Sleeping Beauty and her prince.

And in Beauty and the Beast, he's supposed to be Prince Adam..... as confirmed in the CD-ROM tie-in game ("The D Show")

Morning everyone! Today is the first day of summer, here are a few fun facts...

Summer Solstice 2011 in the Northern Hemisphere, summer solstice begins on Jun 21 2011 at 1:16 P.M. EDT

in the UK June 21, 2011 at 17:16 UTC

Sol + stice derives from a combination of Latin words meaning "sun" + "to stand still." As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.

As a major celestial event, the Summer Solstice results in the longest day and the shortest night of the year. The Northern Hemisphere celebrates in June, but the people on the Southern half of the earth have their longest summer day in December.

Early Celebrations

Awed by the great power of the sun, civilizations have for centuries celebrated the first day of summer otherwise known as the Summer Solstice, Midsummer (see Shakespeare), St. John's Day, or the Wiccan Litha.

The Celts & Slavs celebrated the first day of summer with dancing & bonfires to help increase the sun's energy. The Chinese marked the day by honoring Li, the Chinese Goddess of Light.

Perhaps the most enduring modern ties with Summer Solstice were the Druids' celebration of the day as the "wedding of Heaven and Earth", resulting in the present day belief of a "lucky" wedding in June.

Today, the day is still celebrated around the world - most notably in England at Stonehenge and Avebury, where thousands gather to welcome the sunrise on the Summer Solstice.

Pagan spirit gatherings or festivals are also common in June, when groups assemble to light a sacred fire, and stay up all night to welcome the dawn.

Summer Solstice Fun Facts

Pagans called the Midsummer moon the "Honey Moon" for the mead made from fermented honey that was part of wedding ceremonies performed at the Summer Solstice.

Ancient Pagans celebrated Midsummer with bonfires, when couples would leap through the flames, believing their crops would grow as high as the couples were able to jump.

Midsummer was thought to be a time of magic, when evil spirits were said to appear. To thwart them, Pagans often wore protective garlands of herbs and flowers. One of the most powerful of them was a plant called 'chase-devil', which is known today as St. John's Wort and still used by modern herbalists as a mood stabilizer.

I am not thrilled, typed out long post 3 times and before I can press 'send' it disappears...so give me a few seconds and I'll retype.. drats

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'll do a bunch of mini posts...

It's a sunshine day here, light breeze, perfect for summer's arrival!

Thank you LindaKay for your post re: Summer Solstice..didn't realize how much it was celebrated....might have a bonfire tonight..the newsman this morning was saying how the ritual was to leap over fire for good luck...dahhhh of course you had good luck if you didn't burn yourself..lol c r a z y !!!! funny what some believe..

As for the St.John's wort...does work..when I was having difficulties when Roger died I took it and it certainly did help!

Victoria Harbour, ON

As for the new changes, to me, don't mind if the tab is on right/left/up or down..as long as I can find you my friends..that's the important thing!!

Mary, thanks for helping with the weeds..you had me so laughing, yep, you have a front and sides of the house you can dig up and plant...just don't do like me and go overboard, can barely see my house for gardens..think I'm right on the line of "too much" at least that is what June said when she dropped in the other day...oh well..maybe next year I'll re-design but for this year I'll just enjoy the beauty of flowers..

LOVE Disney/Eptcot etc. but lordy never paid much attention to first names..you guys are sure up on Walt Disney movies..could it be you all had girls and I boys???

Susan you sure are hyped up on veggie garden..hope you've a supper crop this year! How's Mr. Fishy doing??? I was thinking of going to get a few fish for the pond then wondered about them tempting kitties or racoons.. have to think of that one!!

Yikes, saw a few other pieces of garbage at my roadside for big object pick up when I got home last night but it wasn't until this morning when I toured the gardens did I see that Cathy had done a major clean up..I'm sure she'll have poison ivy as all she put at the cub was sitting on a bed of it..there was lots of cut wood from the old deck there as well, she must have burnt what I had in the pit and filled it with the decking..I just shake my head, lordy she works so hard at my place and never wants to take $$$ for it..will have to find something special for her..

Ann will come over this evening for bingo, we gabbed about an hour last night, she said she knew from her working days that when you come home you just want to stay home so rather than I going to her house for t.v. bingo she'll come to mine..maybe we can have a Summer Solstice fire (no you won't catch me jumping over it regardless how luck it is)..who knows, might even get to celebrate our winning the t.v. bingo jackpot..Ann says she needs a riding lawnmower as well..can't you just see us shopping tomorrow, picking a model and saying 'we'll take 2' lol

better post before I lose it..
be back to gab with you Shirley
