Plant Propagation part XXXVII based on my own experience

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I had a wonderful surprise today. My bird groomer brought me two 15 year old Christmas Cactus. One is pink, and the other is orange with a pink center. No names of course. She also brought me an orchid which I am hoping I do not kill. She is downsizing and she knew I was selling and collecting the CC. What nice friends I have. The truck is a Classic, is is a 1989 S10 Tahoe Chevie pick up with extended cab. Really nice and clean too. About 119,000 miles on it. My husband bought it new for me in April of 1989. The oil has been changed every 4000 miles and it was detailed every year. Sometimes twice a year depending on the weather.

I do not like Craigs list at all and I really do not expect to get anything from it, but I thought since it is free Classified I will give it a try. If I decide to list it on the auction I have to pay. LOL I am tired of paying.

I am taking cuttings of the CC now and when my leg gets better I am going to move some of that yellow Iris. I will let you all know.

I had cut back my bougainvillea last year down to almost nothing. Took it outside behind the barn early Spring and forgot about it. It is blooming and beautiful. If I would have tried to do that it would be dead.

I thought I would see how much information is available on cubits and ask a few of the forum about Patent Plant information. No answers yet. I even ask Dave. They do not seem to have the same type people there as we do here. There are definite clicks, but they are very polite and nice to you, but I have my doubts if I will be doing much chatting there. Some of the girls are very nice and could not be more helpful, but they do not have the type gardeners we have here and if they do, I am unable to find them. Maybe I am just not looking in the right place. Not too many people propagate tropicals, and if they do they are in the South and they are not house plants. I still think The Plant Scout and Market Place are the best sources to sell your plants.

I would guess if a plant is patented in Canada and they ship here to sell, then it would be illegal to propagate that plant for sale here in the USA. I think that sucks. Especially when they (the people selling them here in the USA) do not tell you they are PP. I am going to try and find an answer because if they are sold without a PP, and none of their pots are marked PP, they are marked Not for comsumption, Propagation Prohibited. What in blazes do the think I want to do, grow them to eat? But when I called Canada they did say they were Patented. Hmmmmmmm

I'm tired and think I had better ice the leg. Hope you are all good and having fun with the good weather. Is Katie o.k. ?

See you all tomorrow. Hugs. JB

Ok as I see it patents are good everywhere. I kind of look at it as if i had a patent. how would I like to be treated? In the very distant past i did do some patented cuttings but to my defense i did not know they were patented untill I happened to see anotherone with the patent # and info on it.
As far as enforcement goes I believe its upto the patent holder to police it and i would think the state agencies would watch for it also. but with so many plants not patented you should be able to find plants to grow. I know the poinsettia people hire school teachers to travel around and do spot checks at greenhouses. They actually have it figuired out if a stock plant is 6" tall and has x number of shoots it will produce a specific # of cuttings. you can buy a liscense to propagate the plants but i don't know where to go to even begin to apply for one.

Nice truck JB. will you deliver it. I can pay a dollar down and a dollar a month till its paid off or i die which ever comes first.... you should not have any trouble selling it. are there any car lots near you. here we have lots where you can drive you car to them they will make you an offer and you can even comeback and take the offer at a later date. I am sure there are conditions to the sleep on it clause. just a thought. How about Auto trader or the local high school. could you put an ad in the school newspaper? laundry mats, local resturaunts especiall small mom and pop breakfast places.

JB heads up rain coming your way and its nasty

Ibartoo:

>> Corey, I too love your sense of humor. It seems to match mine.

Oh, no! I'm sorry to hear that. I wish I could say "they have medication for that now", but I don't think they do. It's incurable, and contagious after repeated exposure.

Maybe spraying with diluted hydrogen peroxide? I haven't tried that yet.

Sharon, I wonder if I need to be a less timid pruner with my hardy spiderworts? Tropical spiderworts, think: Wandering Jew, Blue Gingers, etc.

JB, I grow tropicals in Ohio! No greenhouse (yet, bwahahaha), either.

JB and Dave probably know this stuff. I find it real interesting even tho I have no intentions of reproducing any plant to sell. But I asked so I can pick out the parts I am interested in. Thanks.

Actually I will put it in my plant file for future use since you/I never know what the future will be. Maybe I will do it in the future like JB does. For fun, and to support my habit. LOL,

Hopefully if I do that, then I will need it.

Thanks.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well Jnette, I have no idea about the seeds. I have e-mailed Dee at Snowpeak Irises. She is my iris expert. I think the pod needs to dry on the stem. I am digging the other without pods in the next couple of weeks. I will send the bulbs and your Canna. Seeds will follow. Maybe by the end of th week you will be warm enough for your Canna.

JB , Linda and Dave also wanted LA Black Gamecock. Did I miss anyone.

I also dug up 3 Glads. They came up but no blooms. I think it did not get cold enough. They were expensive but I cannot guarantee if they will bloom. Bloomed last two years but not this year. I had seven but when I pulled them today only 3 had bulbs attached. Free to whomever wants them.

The Black Bamboo is still looking puny. It is still on hold until it looks better.

When I was in Washington Dee from Snowpeak and I toured some iris farms in Oregon. She gave me some molly allium bulbs. Look a lot like the onions I sent Dawn with the blue flowers. The blooms are yellow. They are in the holding garden.

My worker is not coming this weekend. He called and wanted to borrow $750. I have already given him more than that plus paying him for his work. I thought it was time to stop the bleeding.. Now we will see if he shows up again. I am usually smarter than that but he was in deep trouble because of his wife's illness, which I verified, and I had money to give but I am a Winter, not a Rockefeller.

Katie went to California to see the guru. Maybe she joined the movement and is on her way to the next stop.

Jnette, tomorrow I will take a photo of my tomatoes. I need to determine how to set the date on my camera. Maybe I will Google that before I go to bed. I have been awake since 4:30am. Vern was trying to find something to cover the female dog because he thought she was cold and woke me up. I could not go back to sleep so I finally got up and took my shower at 6am. What a waste of time. And I also curled my hair. Another waste of time.

I am going to work in the garden tomorrow early so I must hit my bed.

Lee, Linda and Evelyn, what am I suppose to be sending you? Lee did any of your grass come up. I am sending a whole menagerie of things to Dave and JB. They will sell anything.

Evelyn, my pink and white Verbena is growing and looking great. How is yours? Is it still alive.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Dave I just got 4 1 gallon Buddleia plants from her, two varieties that I wanted. They would not have made it on more day in the mail if I did not get them today, they were pretty hammered. I soaked them in the sink for 2 hours with Kelp and they perked up pretty well, so I potted them up and hope they are in good spots for acclimation.

Why does she threaten to burn them or compost them?

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Dave, how is your grandfather doing? Is he in the hospital? He will heal at home much better if he has someone to care for him and isn't so bad that he needs a hospital. I have been in one so many times and can tell you for sure I know what I am telling you.

If at all possible, he needs to be home. Sure hope he is ok. People that old do not do well no matter where. What was he in the wheel chair for? Must be hell to get old. So sorry.

JB is going to lead us all in aerobic exercises. Starting next Monday. Is everyone up for it? Not her time. Ours. Not with Mornin;' Joe either.

Come on JB. I want to see it on You tube.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Good grief, did I let a f*** with that last post last night? I was the last one on here and it is afternoon already JB' time.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Howdy:
My grandpa is doing fine he is home. he has his wife who is 20 years younger than he is and they have home health coming in. he has a full leg brace so he does not move the leg. I know he is like me so if he did not have it it would never heal.

the threat of composting is a real one. i have a ton of plants I have threatened to compost over on her cube as well. I have been know to dump a whole crop just to make room for the next crop coming on. once the plants get so big its a fight to keep them alive let alone looking good. I am sure she is tired of fighting them.

here is my ad http://cubits.org/flowersnursery/thread/view/59017/

Most of my stuff I will have to move across town but would rather sell them at a huge discount than have to move them again. please let me know what you think of my ad

we are a fickle bunch and plants just make more babies. I am sure thats the thought. sell them and the ones that are looking a bit haggered will be transplanted or dumped. I just did a huge bunch of pots that were suposed to be pampas grass but they failed to come back so they got dumped. I don't want to wait 6 month's for them to become puney looking distressed plants so I dumped them.
There are a lot of reasons to dump a crop. its personal and I have a hard time doing it sometimes.
well its lunch time and then nap 30.
Have a great day
Dave

mulege, Mexico

HI Everyone,

I'm back after almost a week with Amma. It was really nice except I caught a cold. Was up all night for about three nights. Also had a tooth bothering me. I saw my dentist yesterday and had it pulled. It's the first permanent tooth I have lost. The dentist was new to me but very nice (and cute as can be). He complimented me on how well I've taken care of my teeth and told me to come see him about twice a year. Maybe once year will do.

Amma was wonderful, as always. I've know her since her second visit to the US which was twenty-four years ago. It's gone from a couple of hundred people to thousands. In India, they come by the millions to see her. She asked (through one of her translators) where I was living now because she hasn't seen me as often as she used to. I was quite surprised, considering the millions of "children" she has. I told her I'm living in Mexico so I don't see her as often as I used to but I assured her that I'm always with her. She gave me an apple. A special treat. She calls me her darling daughter. I made two peacocks out of watermelons for her.

I have to buy dog food and a few other things before heading home. I'll go through where I did last time. I'll probably get pulled over and checked but I'm not taking anything illegal. I do have lots of stuffed animals which are for the kids at Christmas and some Goodwill finds.

I'll be gald to get home and see my dogs and plants and Tony. It will probably be quite hot by now.

I got a kit to do some tissue culture of plants. A new hobby is just what i need!! I need to sort through my huge fabric stash and give a lot to Tony's wife and daughter and other family members.

Mostly, though, I need to rest and shake this cold. The tooth that was pulled was infected pretty badly so I'm hoping that I'll perk up now that it's gone.

I'm tired so will talk to you all later. I've missed you.

hugs, katie

Quote from WormsLovSharon :
Evelyn, what am I suppose to be sending you?

....Just the Black Bamboo and 'Diana' hibiscus.

Evelyn, my pink and white Verbena is growing and looking great. How is yours? Is it still alive.

.....They are still alive but no blooms yet. I am sure they will grow a bit and then bloom all summer. Thanks again!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Katie:
welcome back I was starting to get concerned about you. your cold may be compounded by the infected tooth. its good you got it out. did the dentisit give you any antibiotics??? call him if he did not. its a cheap fix and would be a shame for you to suffer when acheap round of antibiotics would knock it out quickly.
Let me know how the tissue culture goes i have toyed with the thought of doing it myself but I have too many hobbies as it is. maybe once I get beyond growing outside.
Have a safe trip back
Dave

Hello to everyone. I have been working on increasing my Bromeliad inventory with very little luck.
Don't have time or patience to read all I have missed.
I did see the pic of baby parrots. I am impressed with JBerger who raised these babies. I once had an amazon parrot that could speak about twenty words. He got obnoxious when I would get on the phone and would Scream MAMAMA. He did die but I do miss him at times. But most of all I miss my palamino horse.

Wish I could send you all tomatoes. All the neighbors have been trading vegetables.

Happy gardening to you all

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Guess I'm first again! Nobody has anything to say Dave.

I've been gone all day so guess I didn't miss much. Glad to hear from you again Katie, and welcome Peg. Dave, you need to go back and get Peg.

Glad Grandpa is doing good and he will heal better at home.

The rain seems to have let up for a while anyway. My sister sent me a bunch of listings to look at so I found some I would like to see, but don't know if she is gone for the weekend or not.

The strangest thing we found out when we were trying to buy this house here. The realtors do not work on the weekends here. Some do on Saturdays, but no Sundays. In Seattle the weekends were their busiest times. Some of them would bring in 4 or 5 earnest money agreements written over the weekend. Boy, not here. Maybe people don't want to be bothered on the weekends.

Well, I haven't even watered the tomatoes for 3 days. Guess I will wait until tomorrow. Bob got me some bungee cords to tie them up with. ttyl,

edited to add: We crossposted

Hi Peg. Wasn't sure we would get you with us that soon. Maybe you know about Linda's Queen's Tears. She sent me seeds and I was just going to tell her that I googled them and this is what they said about propagation. (if it is still in my copy)

Propagation: Billbergia nutans are propagated by the removal of offsets after flowering.

So, Linda, you said these were spreading throughout your flower bed? They must be seeding down then, right? It is a Bromiliad. I thought they attached to trees.

Dave,

>> I have been know to dump a whole crop just to make room for the next crop

It makes sense that a good propagator can fill up any given amount of space to the rafters.

A neighbor has a really beatiful garden in a tiny space. She is ruthless about discarding anything that doesn't thrive fast in its first spot. She may move it once, but then OUT.

I call her "Atilla the Gardener".

I must have missed Katie talking about Amma before. Why did she have so many people she considered her kids?

Dave I did not know you can't ship to all of us Western folk. I get the tossing if the plants are not looking great. Seems like more work than money though.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I like that.

I'm a cold-hearted gardener, too. I am not going to fiddle around with a plant that doesn't want to live here, or is like one of those little overbred dogs whose vigor has been bred out of them.

Even the tropicals, I let them go dormant and bring them in. If they achieve terminal dormancy...they're pretty fine compost. There are precious few plants I'll spend exorbitant effort to grow. Some of the tropicals and house plants don't go dormant, but they need to be relatively forgiving of my drafty old house and mediocre lighting, or they end up fertilizing next year's tomatoes.

Well I had a big day planned but did not gardening. Took grandson, Jacob, to lunch for his birthday along with Hannah the oldest sister and his mother, my daughter, Tracy. He did not feel well and I was about to throw him to the lions.

We went to Firefly, a new tapas place, He is 8 today so I guess it was not his kind of food. I had lamb, that was to die for along with beef tenderloin sliders, chicken on a stick and bacon wrapped dates with blue cheese. That was my order but we all shared. They ordered stuffed mushrooms, a shrimp dish, macaroni an cheese and french fries for the birthday boy. Something else but I was not impressed enough to remember.

Then I came home and it was 2:30 and hot. My problem is if I do not get started first thing, I never get started.

I have a funeral to attend tomorrow at 10am. So hopefully after that I can hit the garden Now I am behind. The crazy jet stream has slipped below Nevada. So we are cooling down to low 90s and Northern Nevada is getting rain so Evelyn is probably getting rain also. Ninety degrees is actually doable in the shade.

They were replacing bulbs in the outdoor lights yesterday and today. They missed two up in the trees shining down that was why they were her today. I decided to go to Lowes and see how much the energy efficient bulbs were. I was shocked. Saved 80% energy but they were $27 a piece. I have 30+ outdoor lights. Yes Jnette, it looks like a hotel. I guess I will replace them as they burn out. This time there was 17 burned out. Very unusual amount. I wonder if you get a tax credit for energy efficient bulbs? But then you need income to need write offs.

I am headed off to bed. I neerd my beauty rest.

Who do you think this is?

You cannot take pictures of me long distance. Too many mountains. So, if you try, it must be JB. Not me.

I hope to get out and fertilize and water the tomatoes in the a.m. and then I have an appointment with my sister the realtor to go look at a house. I think it is going to be just right for us,but Bob is spooked about the financing. I asked him why he wasn't worried when I put my house in Seattle on the chopping block and bought this house and he said he thought I was demented. So, now he is worried about me losing this house and being out on the street. He says I am crazed.

Gotta go to bed so I can do all this stuff tomorrow. I am not fit to walk the streets, or highways. My arthritis will not allow it. I wonder if I can work in the soup kitchens. If I work there I might get to eat for free? Is that how it works?

Bob called my hair dresser to put my hair in the drawer. No, to get both of us haircuts and told the woman answering the phone he wanted two haircut appointments. She wanted to make them 2 weeks apart. He said no, one after the other. She didn't get it. He said he wanted 2 hairs cut. That she got so she made 2 appointments for today and we got our hairs cut.

Gotta go to bed. nite.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well I am up early for the funeral. It is the mother of a very dear friend.

Jnette, I decided if and when I become homeless, I am going to commit a felony. In prison I will get food, shelter, free medical and eye glasses. Probably even have a garden for me to work in. I just need to decide which state has a prison where I would want to live.

Customers like Bob used to drive my assistant crazy. But after 15+ years she spotted them before they opened their mouth. Good luck on the house hunting.

Lucky for Vern, he never put up a fuss about any real estate or stock I bought. After making money the first time he just let me go. He said he was waiting for me to lose money and I never did. But I am not a genius. I was just in the market at the right time and got out at the right time. Just very lucky.

I will check in later this afternoon after gardening. The weather this morning is postcard weather. Have a great day. Sharon.

Pawleys Island, SC

What happens to the posts that disappear? Don't you think cyberspace has to fill up at some point? My point is I answered everyone's questions and even added a few comments yesterday and my post isn't here at all.

Anyway, Sharon, I remember asking about the black bamboo, but I don't know of anything else. However if you still have an iris pod, I would love one of those.

Jnette, all of the bromeliads I have had have grown in soil. I have seen airplants that thrive on wood or in trees, they even sell them in sea shells here in the beachwear shops. I know that some of the achmea bromeliads put out suckers and then the original plant will die back after it blooms. These may put out suckers, but the originals don't die.
My sister sent me some that are the same plant, just a little different cultivar and they do not spread the way these do. I have never found a name for the ones she sent me. I know I have never seen seeds on a bromeliad before, so this is a new venture for me. You know I love a good experiment. As for the seeds, I would simply surface sow them and see what happens. I have more if they don't come up for you.

Katie, welcome back.
Peg, welcome. You will like it here.

Rick, I don't want a cure for the humor issue. It is probably the only real strand keeping my sanity in tact.

Jb is doing the happy dance because her orchid cacti are growing. I am repotting a few this week, so I may have some more cuttings if anyone is interested.

Evelyn and Lee, did you ever get warm and dry?

Sharon, the tapas sound good, but I have found that at 8, the less trendy seems to work better. I will have my 8 year old great neice( I may be 90 before I get to be a grandma) come to stay with me for 3 weeks at the end of the month. I am looking forward to it but not sure where the energy will come from to keep up. She has made big plans. LOL

Dave, I am glad grampa is doing better. Thanks for the emails and for helping with the buyers.

Gotta get outside while the temperatures are still bearable.
Talk to ya later,
Linda

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Sharon, I had forgotten about this until Linda mentioned it. But why in the world would you take an 8 yr old to a place like that for HIS birthday? Amazing how soon we forget what it is like to be that age. I am surprised he did not throw a fit right in front of everybody. You must have fed him drugs before going.

Linda that happens a lot and I just assume I forgot to hit send. Don't know.

Actually Sharon with Bob and the haircut appointments, if it had been the regular people answering the phone, they would have known what Bob wanted. But, it is a small shop and could have been that the operators were busy and someone else answered the phone for them.

Or were you talking about Bob and the real estate? I can understand his worry about that since he does not trust a Realtor even if it is my sister. And, I hate to say this, but I agree, but am aware of how and why the Realtors do what they do. And, am always watching even if it is my sister. I worked for the master of crooks in a real estate office when I was younger.

Linda it is going to be fun trying the seeds. Will let you know what happens with them.

Well, gotta get out there and take care of the tomatoes before leaving to meet my sister. ttyl,

Happy Fathers Day to all. Have been trying to catch up after a week of not walking too well. Still have some discomfort but I can live with that for now.

Things are very quiet here. Almost sold out of everything and am cutting my cactus and trying to keep things watered and fed.

Can not believe I sold the truck. I feel like I lost an old friend. Now the fun is trying to get the tags (special Marine Corp Tags, transferred from the truck to the Jeep) Some technical thing like the Type and you would think I am asking for a miracle. I may need one to do this.

Barney got sick about 2 a.m. and I have been up since so I am going to give the birds water and sneak a nap. I have already fed the cats, checked the GH, walked Barney and had breakfast and it is only 9:30.

Does anyone use ClipNShip from the Post Office? I had a crazy thing happen yesterday with that. I did a shipping label for a package going to TX and when I was in bed I got an email stating the label was cancelled and I was to destroy it and the money will be refunded. She paid thru paypal and so I went on Paypal and it said print a label. So I printed another and it went through. I am wondering if they knew on ClipNShip that there was a label waiting on PayPal. That is scary if they did. LOL They gave me no reason for canceling it or anything. Mystery for sure.

Katie, I am so glad to see you are o.k. Sounds like you had a great time.

I am doing the happy dance because the Christmas Orchid cuttings Laurie sent me are growing like little weeds. I am so happy.

Someone sent me some Vicar something, and that is growing very well also. Evelyn, was that you or Sharon? I am sorry I can not remember the name of the plant or who sent it. Senior Moments for sure.

I did not see any postings from any of you last night. Were you all sick or am I just out of touch.

Jen, how did you make out with the house you looked at?

Dave, did you send me a friend request for something yesterday? I canceled it because I have been getting some weird requests and since I am not active in the program it was, I thought it was an error. Some crazy is going on with the internet just now.
I am not sure if it is my machine or the cyber space.

Talk later. Have a great day. This is going to be a long one since I am so tired. JB

Click & Ship, unrelated to paypal. Just a weird coincidence, probably.

Know what I hate? Seed and plant catalogs that do not show leaves or flowers to scale with anything resembling reality. I'm okay with small flowers or leaves, I just want to know what they look like.

I took some oddball plectranthus cuttings yesterday, when I was grooming the plants. These should be no particular challenge to root, lol.

Crozet, VA

Just wanted to drop in and say hello. Once again, I haven't had the time to keep up reading this very busy thread. I had somethings unexpected happen last week that is going to really, really cut into my computer time.

After my son and his wife having two different baby sitters take advantage of them, last Monday I offered to become the grand childrens new baby sitter. They will be coming three and sometimes four days a week. They were here three days last week and I am still not caught up on house work types of things. Outside gardening time is gonna take a big hit too because it will be very frustrating to try and do the things I want to do while they are with me. I tried potting a few things one evening last week and kept getting interrupted. I will be doing my gardening in the mornings versus any afternoon or evenings for a while.

The good thing about it is that I am actually going to get paid what they were paying the other sitters, and the extra money will come in handy for both groceries and more planting materials. hahaha

So, I just wanted to say hello to all even though I don't have time to read what everyone has going on, I will try to drop by again when I have time to read and hear about all the exciting plant works that everyone is involved in.

I sold my first houseplant yesterday that my hubby took with him to our local Farmer's Market where he has been selling Day Lilies and Iris for a while now. I have others potted and hope to continue to bring in some money this way too.

I just snapped a picture of some of my houseplants who are happily spending their summer on our screened porch. Thought I would share a few with you.

Take care and I hope that everyone will have an enjoyable and productive week coming up.

Morning everyone.
It is a beautiful Sunday and Father's day here.
Ruby, I know the things you enjoy doing will be pushed aside a little bit, but to be able to play with little ones would be awesome. Nobody will love them like "grandma" and their parents won't have to worry about them not being cared for as they should. I am missing the days when mine was little and all of my nieces and nephews live too far away for me to get to spend much time with them.
I wish you well at the farmers market. I once went to the flea market with plants ( 25 years ago) and was amazed at what i sold. I knew even then that i would eventually have a nursery.

JB, what is a christmas orchid cactus? I know orchid cactus and Christmas cactus, but I have never heard of Christmas orchid cactus.
I hope Barney feels better. It is awful when our babies are sick and they can't talk to us.

Celene, I agree with you. Pictures in catalogs should be scale! It is frustrating to order something only to discover that it isn't as big or small as you thought.
I deal with that a lot in the jewelry supply catalogs too. That can really mess up a design.

Jnette, you may be right, I may not have hit send, but it seems to happen a lot lately. I am starting my bilbergia seeds today. i will let you know how they do. I also started my experiment on the different color bottles. I will post results of that one too.

Sharon and Dawn, It is supposed to be 91 here today with a tremendous heat index. I hope you two are cool and comfortable.

Does anyone use google chrome with paypal's shipping thingy? Every time i try to print a lable in paypal, it ends up with an error and I have to wait two weeks for a refund. I finally just started taking everything to the post office, but it would be so much easier to ship from here.

Well, Gotta go, hope everyone has a wonderful day.
Linda

No wonder you never heard of a Christmas orchid cactus. THERE AINT NO SUCH ANIMAL. I am tired and typed the wrong thing. Sorry Linda. Your the one who gave them to me and I am so excited I can not even get the name straight. I apologize, the word Christmas needs to be deleted from that post. JB

Well, you all are way ahead of me today. I went with my sister yesterday, met her at 1 o'clock, thought we were looking at "A" house and looked a 7. And that was after driving an hour and a half to get to the first one. She had them all mapped out in order so that was good.

The house I wanted to see in the first place was the best of the day. Most for the money and best house. The most gorgeous yard I have ever seen. I am sure that the people who owned it were in the nursery business when they bought the place new because the plants were all mature and just wonderful. The yard was 3/4 of an acre and every inch perfect.

At least I am smart enough to know I could never keep up with it. I would have to have a professional to prune at least once a year. Every shrub and evergreen would need it's own style of pruning. Just gorgeous. Oh well- - -

Ruby, Linda is right, the gardening can take a backseat to the babysitting. The little ones are only that size for a short time. They grow up so fast. But you will find time to do the other too. You will just have to adjust your time.

You are so right JB, I was just plain too tired to do anything last night when we got home. Bob had a big pot of spaghetti ready for dinner and good garlic bread and salad.

Linda forgetting to hit send I think is just being in too big a hurry. Nothing else.

Glad you sold the truck JB, now I won't have to come get it.

Ok, you all, here is a question for you. Listen up!! JB!! WAKE UP!!

Never mind, go back to sleep, I decided not to ask it.

Celene, I have said that often, why don't people post pictures of the whole plant? A mature plant.

Ok, Lee, you often say we talk so much you can't get a word in. Here is your turn.

Did I hear from you? Noooooooo. Dawn, Katie, Evelyn, where are you all?

It is another cold day out there but maybe I will try to get the rest of my container plants in the wet cold soil mix anyway. At least then I can say I tried. ttyl

>> I am not going to fiddle around with a plant that doesn't want to live here,

Good philosophy! I'll try that on my plants that are being lazy and difficult.

"HEY YOU!! If you don't want to THRIVE here, you don't have to LIVE here!"

I'll see if threats work. But they probably know how wussy I am.

Actually, if it hadn't rained this weekend, and I wasn't lazy, I was planning to turn under some Bok Choy and other Asian greens that stalled in the cold spring weather (or maybe it was the heavy clay they disliked) and replace them with seedlings from 6-packs started indoors.

Quote from ibartoo :
What happens to the posts that disappear? Don't you think cyberspace has to fill up at some point? My point is I answered everyone's questions and even added a few comments yesterday and my post isn't here at all.

I have wondered that myself, as I have written long letters (d-mails) to people as well as long posts and then go to send them and then they are gone.....POOF! Just like that. It gets discouraging as at this time I do not have a lot of spare time on my hands.

Evelyn and Lee, did you ever get warm and dry?

Yes, Linda, it is warm and dry and there are now weeds everywhere. The only four places that are "virtually" weed-free are the new "Hot Bed", the new "Cottage Garden Bed", the (8) square foot gardens and the three beds around the house. I have been working like a mad-woman trying to get everything tidy, but working on one section at a time so if you look at the other parts, I will want to hide. I have been starting out earier in the morning as it gets a bit uncomfortable mid-day, then going out later. I worked straight through yesterday and did not sleep well, so my schedule has been interrupted. I got a bit sunburnt as well on the back of my neck while I was working, as I forget to put on sunscreen. It is not severe, as I tan easily and it will be better by tomorrow.

Last year, I took a shortcut and just trimmed the weeds down and then covered with mulch in the Dark Side Garden. (It looked great, then...) It is a meadow now....YIKES! My husband would have weed-whacked it down, but he saw the dark leaves and knew he shouldn't. So that will be another challenge for me. So many weeds (and seeds and plants) and only so many hours in the day. Still I have only watered today as I feel so tired. I wish I had JB's energy as she is in her 80's and I am not yet quite 70. Maybe she does not have garden beds but seasonal things like orchards, daffodils and her greenhouse. I am not sure. Still she does quite a bit. At least my husband likes to cook and will help with the housework.
