Plant Propagation part XXXVII based on my own experience

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Ok Corey, Crows. We used to buy corn form a lady a few blocks away from where we lived in Seattle. She told us that her husband shot a crow one day when they were planting the corn seed
cause the crow was eating the seed as they planted it.

The crows came form far and wide for a funeral, and then held a wake for 3 weeks in her corn field.

They are a very social bird. When one finds a kill they don't just go eat it. They call all the rest to the party.

Dave, your crosses are beautiful. It must be very exciting as they open to see what they are going to be. Are you naming them as they open?

Hi Everyone,
Yes, I have a little helper and she is a ball of energy! it has been a long time since i have had a little one around. LOL She is about to wear me out.

Dave, That daylily is beautiful.

JB, Jnette, Evelyn, Sharon, Corey, Dawn and everyone, I will keep trying to lurk, but It may be a couple of weeks before I get caught up.

I just wanted to say hi.

>> Was the Mayor at the time of "The City" guiliani? I understand he was pretty rigid.

Yeah. Before 9-11, many people called him a Fascist - in a bad way. After 9-11, most people shrugged and said: "Yeah, but he's OUR Fascist."

What was annoying about the Teen Voyeur Bus was that nothing about it was illegal - for once O&A got that right. And everyone was having a good time, including beat cops and motorcycle cops. But when they crossed the route the presidential motorcade would follow HOURS later, someone called someone and Big G sent out police officials and SS guys with "nosensayuma" .

Our Fascist threw 19-year-old girls and th bus driver into city kockups for about 10 minutes less than the legal maximum (36 hours, I think) to "process" them when there was never any question in anyone's mind that they COULD ever be charged with anything. Just "rousting" them - the "law-and-order" mayor breaking the law.

Oh, well. Nosensayuma.

Hi, Ibartoo! I know what you mean about it taking a week to catch up on the thread. Warning: it will be TWICE as long a week from now!

>> a crow, a vulture and an eagle all feasting.

This sounds like a three part joke. "A priest, a rabbi, and a clone walk into this bar ..."

>> When we drove right up to them and honked the horn, they all left except one. Which one do you think it was? The eagle. It refused to move. Had to drive around it into the other lane.

The only eagle I ever met was a chick, or cub, or whatever you call a juvenile eagle. It was hanging out around a fish market on the Quinnipiac river in Westport, CT ... I guess they threw fish scraps back into the river.

Sometimes it would hang out under a bridge, out of sight, until other birds like seagulls thought that THEY might get a chance to grab something to eat. Then it would heavily heave itself into the air and fly a lazy loop around the river and back to its perch ... while everything else in the air panicked and imitated fragments flying away from an explosion.

Big bully! It knew that it was The Boss.

The newspaper claimed it was a young Bald Eagle, away from its normal range. It was a local celebrity for a week or so, then moved on.

Hello to all, back from I am back from Roundup, muddy, tired, and feeling great. I took a bunch of food, and clothing up. Since I have lost the weight I had lots of blouses and things. My friend couldn't wear any of them, but another lady could so she took them. What a mess. We worked lots, got a little ways with the mess, but lots still to do, Planting will wait since there isn't any place to put things in the mud. will return again in a week or so, maybe then. It is sooooo sad,

Corey, You probably don't know, but my daughter lives in Shoreline. Accross from the golf course on Greenwood AveN.
Glad everyone else is here and in realitive good health,.

JB, glad you are your same ol' self.

To all the rest, I am still here.

Wow! Lots of chatter. :)

@ Corey - does ignorance cause poverty? That's way too complex a question and I think it has a lot more to do with the way the workforce has changed over time and industry has regionalized and/or shipped overseas. Just read this today:

@ Jnette: did i tell you I just released a rescued crow that had been shot with a pellet gun? I started feeding the crows in my urban backyard in favor of the hawks that feed on my birds and other critters. The crow IS a very smart bird and social too, yes. They share very nicely with eachother. They are very kind to their babies. They can remember people and whether they are naughty or nice.

Happy reading and to all a goodnight. :)

I have been away from my desk, but I did notice that Dave had sent us on a new thread. (I must not use the computer too much.)

See y'all in a few days or so.

Dawn ~ I feel your pain, as I have been there.... Did you have arthroscopic or a rotator cuff replacement? (You are in my prayers)

Actually all of you are as we all seem to have our time with pain....TTYL

Everett, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm glad to hear that crows are that smart. I was afraid that, we humans made ourselves extinct, squirrels would take over, and I don't like those tree rats!

I wonder if there's any way to train crows to eat slugs?

I just hope that no one figures out a way to let crows take our remaining jobs.

Wowie you guys. I could not possibly catch up to comment on all. I am doing fine. I had a tendon repair in my rotator cuff and a muscle partially torn and a butt load of scar tissue (adhesive capsulitis) torn loose.

I have a chair that cranks my arm around to try to prevent a reoccurrance of the scar tissue so no PT yet, still have sutures in.

I think Hedgehogs are adorable. Would like one, but I don't see them in this state, may be on the banned list like ferrots and Gerbils are here. I found a gopher once in a trap that looked just like a Guinne pig, it was blonde. Ate a million roses of mine. grrr!

I would like some of those poppy seeds who ever offered them. Sorry I read too much and several new people here now or returnees.
