Good morning everyone:

ok tornadoes last night. I believe 4 were killed in the el reno area which is 4 hours away by car. we did have a lot of favorable conditions for tornaboe's but the worst part was the wind of upto 80 mpg which is hurricane force winds. There was a lot of property damage.

we have had and will have for a few more days a dry line from sw kansas down into southern texas. a dry line is a favorable front for storms to generate from. it allows a person to see the storms coming and get to cover. we have the warm moist air from the gulf feeding the jet stream and a low thats parked over colorado and kansas which is feeding the front in the late afternoons and on into the early evenings.
Tulsa is on old protected indian ground or thats what is the story and the news team did confirm that it was what the cherokee and creek indian tribes believed and it seems to keep the tornadoes from hitting us. what generally happens is a tornadoe builds in oklahoma city (2 hours by car) and follows a turnpike all the way to the edge of tulsa then either splits north or south and misses tulsa.
The first recognized f5 tornadoe that flattened the town of Moore and traved across country and went upt he turnpike wiped out a huge outlet mall along the way. the slab still shows the distant reminder of how our weather can change in an instant. a lot of people have tornadoe shelters which are little rooms under ground with only a door showing.
there were a lot ofwall clouds with lots of tails showing in the tulsa area. I don't think we had one actually hit the ground and cause damage just the winds from the storms. I had a girlfriend who used to ask why I watched the sky's when we had weather coming in. she got the answer one fall evening when we had a massive storm roll in. the clouds are huge and ver nasty looking.

I hope this answers some of the questions on tornadoes and what we in the central part of the country have to watch for.

On a good note. Yesterday I was in the greenhouse and have flats rooted out ready to come out. they have been in there for 3 weeks. now to find the room for Prowis castle artamesia and ajuga burgandy glow. the pic is of the greenhouse on the 24th

Have a great day everyone

Give me back my gerber RJ!!!!!

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Oh oh rj, are you stealing daisies again? In the dead of night, watch your daisies.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I have to watch my rangoon creeper when Patti's around too, see how nicely she turns that around? You must learn that from your students Patti...mmm hmm

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

so whats growing in your garden?
it seems I have a lot on bloom here is a pic of my stock bed where I get cuttings from.

Don't forget the tree fern . . . one is not enough for me; I want yours too--It's bigger than mine. Oh yeah and my pink lemonade hibiscus looks to be a goner too so I'm going to add that to my list of RJ plants that I covet.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

What is the pink flowering plant throughout your flower bed?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

That's pretty!

We are still very dry- It's taking quite a bit of time to water. I am going to cringe when I get the water bill.

I am here, not too wet, like some here in town, basements are swimming pools, and more to come on Thursday. Some of the seedlings have made it to the yard, so many, so little time thanks again to all of you,.I was able to share with neighbors again, sometimes I think they wait to see what I have before they go out to buy plants. And I love it. Makes my yard look bigger since some of them are ight next door. :) Anyway, I did find you and will be lurking around. Will take pics when things are in bloom,. Only things in bloom rite now are petunias and impatiens. ttyal, Lee

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

If any of my hibiscus that are in the ground come back, I'm putting them in pots this fall so that I don't have to wait so long for blooms.

Good afternoon, campers,

Another lovely day here. Starting to warm up with a little breeze now and then.

Scout is becoming more and more a member of the family. Last evening she tossed a big stuffed tiger from my bed to the floor. When I returned it to the bed she grabbed it by an ear and played with it for a while. She has never been very playful so it was fun to watch.

I went to visit Ruben the pharmacist today and left with a big bag full of stuff - gauze pads, rolls of gauze to hold the pads on, antibiotic cream and Benadryl. I took my second vicodin about an hour ago. That's it for the day. Took a soaking bath, then applied ointment, gauze pads and gauze wrappers to the sore on both arms both above and below the elbow. I look like the Mummy's grandmother. I just took two Benadryl and will see if they help with the swelling. Even if they don't, they might knock me out so I can get some sleep.

I helped a little in the arroyo today but I really need to stay clean until these darn sores heal up. Tony will not be here tomorrow. We are getting as much of the dirt moved to where we want it as we can while it's still fairly cool. There is some shade in the section of the arroyo we'll be working in but once it heats up that won't help much. The good news is that the plan is coming together and that makes it much easier to work without worrying about the need to redo things.

I got myself a collection of George Carlin DVD's for Christmas. They get funnier the more often I watch them.

My arms really hurt but I'm getting sleepy so I'm going to lie down.

hugs, katie

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Wow, it is so good to see everyone safe and sound.
Katie, I am so sorry you are having such a miserable time. Do you have poison ivy or an allergy to something in your garden? Sounds miserable. Hugs.
Dave, I watched MSNBC thanks to Jen for telling me it was on and then I emailed you. It did say Tulsa was not hit yet but it was heading that way. Then I saw your posts and what a relief.
rd those plants are beautiful. I envy you having them in your garden. If you two are stealing tropicals, steal some for me. I do like daisies too , just do not raise them.
Lee, you poor baby, I hope you know how to swim. If it isn't snow it is rain. When does the sunshine. Luv you.
Jen, when Sharon gets there, take pictures. Please,
Evelyn isn't here yet, maybe she is still in bed. (ducking)
The weather here was perfect today. A bit warm, about 85, but low humidity and NO storms. The vet came and gave Barney a good check up and said he looks better than he did the last time she saw him. She is going to look up something for the bed wetting and see if it comes in a compound so he can take it without it upsetting his stomach.
At the same time the vet was here, the inspector from the State arrived and went into the GH and I PASSED MY INSPECTION. I AM BACK IN BUSINESS. YAHOO.

Nothing else new. I have some peonies blooming, some iris which you have seen and gardenias. Here are the peonies. These are the old fashioned kind, not trees.

Hi all - glad to hear from everyone.

Just checking in. Weather in NC has turned to summer overnight. We are still having a lot of rain and Tstorms, but no wind, thankfully.

On a different note - Sharon - I have ordered from Onalee and been very pleased.

A.

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Oh, good, Dave! So glad that you are OK! And also sorry that others are not.

Your greenhouse looks to be in good order now. Do you still get high winds there? Does it affect your GH?

My gerberas have been sulking at the weather as it is warm a few days, which they love, and then cold with rain or snow....hopefully that last part is over. I have not yet planted them out and they look awful. I hate to have to buy more, but I was counting on them for the new garden. A few of them look better than the others, so I will continue to have hope for them. I should know better than to get them early in the season. RJ, is it constantly warm now, where you live? Did you grow them from seed? I have been considering doing that, but since I can barely keep them nice getting them from other growers, it may be lesson in futility. It is going to rain any moment now, according to the weather predictors...

Jeanette ~ Did you find what you were looking for? Sorry, I forgot what it was. Plant food? Is it raining now? The rain is supposed to leave by tomorrow and then get warmer the rest of the week. I can hardly keep up with all of this.

I will apply more mulch to the new bed and then finish the bed on the north side of the house, then as it goes around to the front of the house, get the weeds out of there and then apply the garden fork to loosen the soil a bit and then apply mulch there. I am trying to do this methodically, but sometimes I skip around, especially when I need to plant in other areas.

Bluestone, Terra Nova, Walters and Lakeside Callas (co-ops) will be here soon, so you may not hear from me for a while. I am trying to gather my strength...LOL!!

JB ~ I admire your ambitions on the lawnmowing. I understand why you like to do it and did not mean that you shouldn't do it....only if it gets to be to painful. I cannot handle our riding mower for very long any more since the shoulder surgeries as they put to much strain on them. So, you are fortunate to be able to do it. I also like to dig, and I can do it if I don't do too much at once. I work gradually on the beds and I hope to eventually have enough mulch on them that the digging will be minimal. Some beds I can just put a trowel into, which was impossible before, so I know it can be done.

Katie ~ Can you send us some pictures of your arroyo? It sounds like an interesting project.

Sharon ~ How is your trip progressing? What nurseries have you visited so far, and what other ones will you visit? Did you get any plants?

Well, I must go for now. Have fun all! And lets get those intense storm out of here!

This broom was severely damaged by the heavy snow this year. I will have to cut it back severely.....

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, it's roasting. I checked the forecast for the next 7 days- 90/74F every day.

The gerbera daisy seem to be rather picky. I bought this one grown about 6 years ago at home depot. Some years, it barely puts out a leaf, other years it seems happy. It's hot and dry, which they like. I believe they are from South Africa, where they are hot and dry!

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Yes, rj, we are hot and dry all summer, but wet, cold and soggy during the winter...and part of spring as well...it has been raining pretty steadily now for that last couple of hours. It will probably continue until tomorrow...so they say...I would love to see if they would live over winter, though probably not. Still, one froze solid and is coming back nicely, but in pots not in the ground. Is yours in the ground?

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I've never seen red flowering broom. Yellow is all I see.
I like that.
I will take some pictures. Mine is just coming around in the garden area.

Glad you are alright Dave. I think about you a lot right now. I am glad you are not living with impending doom.

Hey guys, my surgery was authorized today. I am so grateful, this was wearing on me as I said a few weeks ago. Depression sucks. Right when I prayed OK, God I give, I'll just deal with whatever you give me. 2 days later, approval.

Now as for taking Sharon the Shark out house hunting, Oh that sounds like a plan. The two of you would be a force to recon with.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

The pink is sharadonna spiraea. I have a bunch of them and I need to do more flats of cuttings. my favorite is the gold mound with a more red flower against the chartruse foliage. pic is gold mound

Thumbnail by Pughbear7
Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

LOL, don't think that will happen. Sharon and I looking at houses. I would end up in a tent.

Dawn, what is the surgery for?

I had a red with a yellow center Broom and it was planted in the wrong place so I asked my son in law, if he wanted it, knowing he would say no, they live in Seattle where the Broom is everywhere. So I had Bob take it out and get rid of it.

We had a storm moving thru all afternoon and this computer kept dropping everything I wrote. It finally cut the TV off. Local only tho, that is what is weird. I can still get the satellite.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Dawn, you have it wrong. I was known as the Barracuda.

Evelyn, I do not leave until tomorrow afternoon. I had my nails done, stocked up on pet food and then came home and checked all the irrigation and planted the LA irises I purchased from somewhere. Had them in pots and I was afraid they might go dry so I temporarily stuffed them in a damp area in the driveway garden.

I am so glad everyone is safe. Mother Nature is very angry. Someone needs to give her some medicine.

I have ordered from Onalee Plants and Seeds more times than I probably should have.

JB, glad you are back in business. Jnette, you had better have good weather or I am going to blame you.

I will check in probably Friday morning. Tomorrow is going to be a chore, just getting Vern up and out him the door. That is why I made the reservations so much later in the day.

Later friends. Please be safe.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

No, mine is in a pot, in fact I left it in the original pot from the nursery. I figure the less I meddle with it, the better they do.
At last, rain last night.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Well we are guaranteed to have bad weather the month of June Sharon . My daughter and family are planning on coming over from Seattle either this next week or next. So that guarantees it. Last year they came over in June and it was cold and wet all the time they were here. Up until the last day. By then there wasn't enough time to get the boat out and fish for a couple of hours.

Finally it looks like the computer might be working good this morning. All yesterday afternoon it dropped everything I wrote as soon as I clicked on send. The black clouds kept getting closer and closer but it finally started raining good so it was like a release.

I got a call from the credit union yesterday saying they were going to send me a letter of pre-qualifciation for the loan. 'course they want to make sure I am intending to sell the house I have. I also made sure they didn't have a prepayment penalty. Very important. LOL

I am still planting containers for the deck 'cause that makes the house look better too. I can always take them with me wherever I go.

Well, must get busy. ttyl

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Good morning all:
Jeanette what if they want the planter's? I had a buyer request I leave two nice planter's I built and planted on the patio of our condo. I thought what the heck I had like 20 bucks in them and can redo them again when I get ready.

JB I am sorry for the weather headed your way. its the stupid low that parked itself over Kansas for about a week. its headed your way and bringing along a friend just for the fun. Had we had warmer temps the night the tornadoes hit last we would be hit hard as well. I am thinkfull we didn't git hit.
With all the weather i am wondering if the myans got it right?

Well my helper is coming over today so we will get lots done again today. Got lots to pull out of the benches to harden off. I like to give them 2 weeks to help them out. down in florida we would go from the mist to the field in pots right away. of course the humidity was up and we were watering 2x a day.

well thats it for today
Dave

mulege, Mexico

Good dmorning all. JB, thanks for the hugs. I needed them. Glad you are back in business.

I am miserable with my sore arms and no energy. Tony is taking is son Antonio for x-rays so he won't be here today. He worked extra yesterday. We are both cheered knowing that neighbor Tom will have a fit when he returns and discovers that we moved all my soil back to may area. I will also be utilizing part of "his" area necause that's where the soil is. We are actually being nicer to him than I would be if he wasn't a neighbor. Still don't know why they left without saying "goodbye" but they are weird. We do have space around us to it's not "next door neighbors" like in a suburb but it's still neighbors. Weird neighbors, but neighbors.

I feel like a person fessing up to alchoholism but I'm going to talk about my arms. I get mystery sores and they get worse when I scrathch at them which I usually do at night while half-asleep. The scratching makes things worse. Bandaging them is a pain in the neck but I have finally decided it's better to do that than to have open sores on both arms and be taking pain killers for the pain and then gardening and getting them dirty, which of course makes them worse.

Being wrapped up like a mummy is no fun but it keeps the sores clean and keeps me from scratching them at night.

End of confession which is made to help keep me honest about doing all I can to get healed.

I will check on my little plants and tehn read for a while.

The pain I have is not unbearable it's just annoying enough to keep me distracted. I appreciate the support here for dealing with stuff like this.

Sharon, heop your trip goes well. It should be lovely this time of year. The hardest part of a trip for me is the getting ready to leave, hoping I've not forgotten anything important. It's easier now that I have Tony who takes really good care of everything while I'm gone.

I'm going to try moving now.

hugs, katie

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Hello to all:

Spent the morning with a young lady with four kids who is going thru a nasty divorce and custody battle. She has so much faith in God it scares me. I only knew one other person who was down and out like she is, who said God will take care of me. I am a good person and a real believer, but when it comes to money you need to live in this state, I find it difficult to send God the bills. The other person was a former nun who believe it or not, God did watch over her it seemed. When her car died, someone gave her another. That would never happen to me. I would be out there scratching away trying to buy another one.

Oh well, that was my morning. I am finishing up the bird cages and then I must go outside and get some more pots out of the disinfectant and put more in.

Plus, the grass is getting high and I would love to mow for a few hours but it is so very warm today.
The temp in the GH is 97 and the fans and doors are all open. The shade cloth is on also. The temp outside the bird room reads 96.2, which seems very warm.. It was not to go above 80 today. Gosh it is hard to stay healthy with these drastic changes from day to day.
I really do not want to take your time with chit chat. I know you are busy. I have nothing to report today plant wise, other than all the things are back up again on MarketPlace and I need to work on eBay today also. Take care and have a pleasant day. JB

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Howdy
JB: boy thats kind of hot for both rooms. Do the birds do ok at that temp? what is optimum for them?

I put up some stuff on ebay would you check it out and let me knopw what you think?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220788323606&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

I still need to get them on market place. and I am working on an add for a few other spots. i will post a link once I get it all worked out.

managed to get some cuttings of my scullcap stuck today.

well gotta go
Dave

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Dave I sent you a Dmail. I am putting some things on eBay now and I used to take money orders as well as PayPal. I think they have made a new rule, money orders are not acceptable...........or is it checks. They take your ad down if you put that in your payment. I must look it up and see which it is. Money Orders are so easy, but I think that is what they have discontinued. I wonder why? Talk tomorrow. Nite. JB

Pawleys Island, SC

Hi Everyone! I'm just checking in. I typed a long response a couple of days ago and it got lost and I didn't have the energy at the time to re-do it.
Dave, I am so happy you are ok. These storms are awful. I have family in Little Rock, so I am constantly trying to keep up with them.
JB, I hate that the storms are headed your way. I hope that you won't get it.
There is a nasty looking line of storms going through Atlanta right now, so we will probably get some rain tomorrow.
I have missed everyone here. I feel completely out of touch with everyone. We are still recovering from the nasty flu bug. It almost put Burk in the Hospital but we were lucky. Shawn is finally doing better and I am slowly regaining my strength .
It got so bad for a while that I even considered giving up the nursery. Then I went out and saw that most of my plants were survivors and I couldn't stand the thought of giving it up.
Katie i am sorry you are still in such pain. I know how debilitating it can be.
Jnette, Have you found another house yet? I hate the thought of moving. I still need to de-clutter a lot.
Sharon, Your trip through the cascades sounds wonderful. I can only imagine the scenery. I love western mountain ranges.
Dawn, have the winds blown you away completely? I remember those winds.
Evelyn, is your weather stabilizing yet? My sister told me she had hail the other day. I think you are just about 30 miles from her so you may have been getting it too. She said it was still cold at times.
Summer has hit here full force. The humidity is awful and the daytime temps are in the 90's. I am still catching up. I have a few more seedlings to start and some things to pot up. One of my epi's bloomed today and I will post a picture as soon as I get them in the computer. I also want to rebuild my aerators to start cuttings. This is the best time of year to cut anything here. I had planned to get the aerators built today, but it didn't happen. I will try again tomorrow.
Lee, I hope the floods and waters don't reach your house.
Hope I haven't left any one out. I appreciate all the prayers and hugs over the past month. Things are definitely looking up.
Gotta go pick up dinner.
Linda

Pawleys Island, SC

JB, I think ebay is only accepting paypal now. No checks or money orders.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I think ebay is going in the toilet.

Good to hear from you Linda. I think we all lost a lot of posts this last couple of days because of the storms. We always have black clouds and rain. No bad storms like everyone else tho.

Am so sorry you and your family have been sick. that is terrible. Especially this time of year. It should be the nicest time of the year.

And all the news on the TV is so sad. People are suffering so bad. They are just saying that FEMA will pay 75% of the cost of shelters if you build them to their standards and that they cost about $1500. Well, if they pay that much it sure is worth it. Would be whether they paid any or not. Wish people could afford them. All the people. I know they still lose everything but at least they would have their lives.

mulege, Mexico

I got hit with a flu bug and have been down all day. Not much pain, just no energy.

Arms are a llittle better. I rebandaged them and I've taken all my medicine.

Am hoping to sleep well and wake up all better.

hugs, katie

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Good nite Katie.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Katie - hope you get to feeling better soon. :)

Dave - I wanted to say how I love that spirea.

Have a Happy Friday, everyone! Birds are chirping; that's my cue.

A.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

amanda I do too. Its one of my products and I have like 4 to cut on to keep me in cuttings ehich is great.

TGIF

Ebay does not do money order's. I think its because they own paypal and it would be an unfair monopoly if they did not allow checks. i guess ...well I don't know lol Going to input some of my stuff on market place. I have a lot of stuff ready to go just finding the right adoptive parents is tough.
