When I completed my lengthy post, I sent it and there was a box came up about the connection to DG. I thought maybe it was o.k. and then I looked and it was gone. I was so annoyed I went outside and worked for a few more minutes. I had questions for Dave, and now I am too tired to do it again. I think I will go on Facebook and play games. They have a game on there that you have to find hidden things. It is fun and keeps my mind alert. So I am off to play.
BTW I went to visit Cubits today. I am not sneaking around, I am talking honestly and if anyone does not like it, throw me out. I am sick of this petty crap. Anyhow, I think it is a great site except, I have tried for over a year to figure out how to get the most information out of it as well as sell on it and to be honest, I just can not figure it out. Why is it so difficult for me to learn how to get around that site? If I can't do it how do others find stores etc. I conquered eBay, and all the others but darn if I can Cubits.
If there is no charge for a store, etc. how do they stay alive? They seem to have an active group, but I can not figure it out. I am sure it is not a threat to DG because I have not seen found any answers or information there that I needed to know.
Before I loose this, let me tell you good nite. JB
Plant Propagation part XXXVI based on my own experience
Well I am here lurking. I have been in Spokane since Thursday evening. I have fallen twice. First time minor. Second time, yesterday hiking around Coeur d'Alene lake. 2 mile u a d down hike and I fell the first 10 minutes. Banged up my right elbow and wrenched my right shoulder and bruised a rib. But I finished the hike. I started to cry and that really upset my son. I told him I was just angry about falling. A rock I stepped on moved and I just went down.
Sharon that will really tear up your shoulder. I do know that. I understand the crying in pain and frustration. Good for you for keeping at it and finishing.
Ok guys, just make a bunch of non sence. 100 FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF's or something, copy all, control C(for copy) and delete your whole post, then hit control V(for paste) and put it back in.
Dave do you have any Buddelia for sale?
The hike around the lake was great. I do not think I have had air that deep in my lungs for a long time. I was huffing and puffing and I my son kept asking me if I was OK. I said yes many times and the finally told him if I was in trouble I would let him know. Luke made the hike on his 1 1/2 year old legs. He had a blast. Also joining us was Natalie the 10 year old. Heather and the older daughter Megan were at a soccer tournament.
The wild flowers on the hike were outstanding and so was the weather. Today Spokane has had blue skies the majority of the day. Las Vegas has a high of 63 and winds up to 45 mph.
I am in Spokane until Wednesday morning. I leave early and fly to Seattle and then take the train down to Vancouver.
Vern just about missed his plane. He left two hours before me and he just had a hard time getting the walking done to get to the gate. I think next time I will get a wheelchair and I do not think he will complain. He was totally exhausted by the time he got to the gate.
Then when he was coming downstairs in Vancouver, he tried to go around the dog on the stairs and he fell. If we live, we may never leave Las Vegas again.
Jnette, I saw a lot of properties with a lot of acreage. Why do you want so much acreage?
I am so glad you are getting to visit with your family. The first day I was here, Friday, I just rested. I had been working myself to death for months. It felt good just to chill.
We are going downtown for dinner near the river. I cannot believe how high and fast the Spokane river is at this time. I have never seen it but it looks wicked.
There is a forum showing you how to make your own earth pots and many different methods. Dave I think Jnette would have better success because of your temperatures. I have two in the garage that I use during the winter to pot up sensitive plants. I bought them from a nursery on sale for $25. I love that they are on wheels. I can move them out into the sun during the day and move them back inside at night.
I will check in later. Probably tomorrow. Everyone take care of yourself. Love Sharon.
Oh my gosh you are cracking me up Shar.
Good heavens Sharon, you are in the wild northwest!!! LOL, you must be careful. Could be an Indian behind a rock waiting to scalp you. LOL Bob always says when you don't see them they are there.
Am I being ethnically incorrect? Sorry, that is just part of the Western heritage. Guess I could have said a buffalo or some such thing. Deer, elk, moose, etc.
It was real nice here today so must get my daughter to help me clean up the perennial bed while she is here.. I still have not cleaned all of last years crap from around them. It looks like I lost 2 of the roses in the bed.
This better work Dawn or I'm going to be very upset with you. Or was I suppose to paste it back here before typing more? Now what? Are you saying if there is a computer glitch I will still have it to paste, or what?
I pasted it back in there. It is hell to try computer lessons long distance.
I have a buried pot of golden hops that are climbing up the house again. I need to take them out of there. I asked a friend if she wanted them and she does but she doesn't come get them. Wonder if she wants me to deliver them too?
I took some pictures of the hoophouse today to show you, but the camera battery was so low I figured I had better charge it up before I try to put them on the computer. That is what the instructions say anyway.
Sharon if you saw a lot of places with a lot of acreage they were probably big houses on 5 acre plots. Don't want one of those, nor could I afford one if I did.
One to 5 acres is not a lot when I would be moving from 40. Just don't want to be sitting on top of my neighbor. I do like where I am, the closest one is 1/4 mile away. There are some on the river but they aren't around much. some weekends is about it.
The one that I saw and wanted to put in an offer on was 1.12 acres and it was real close in to Spokane, but a lot of openness. I really liked it, but they had just accepted an offer on it and it looks like it is going to close. Too bad, I really liked it.
I did get a letter of pre-qualification from the credit union which is good for 60 days I believe it said. So, once my daughter's family leaves I better get to looking. But, I am not going to take something I don't want.
The Self-contained Box Garden forum is where they have links to instructions on how to make your own earth boxes. I've made several but mine don't have wheels.
Sharon, I can relate to your gasping for air. When Tony and I took the trailer to get palm logs I think he was afraid I was going to stroke out. I didn't. Tony installed posts next to the steps going down into the arroyo so I can hang onto them as I go up or down. Together we made flattened paths in the areas where we're working.
Glad you ssurvived your fall. Be sure to baby your shoulder until you're better.
hugs, katie
One more quick one. Sharon I wondered about Vern. You told us about your trip but not his. Had no idea he was flying a different route from yours. Sure hope he does ok the rest of the trip. I hate flying. And I'm with him. Those darned concourses are miles long. Also if you have to change planes or lay over etc. What a b****of a way to travel. No thanks.
Actually jnette, I had my eyes open for "Bears". I was raised in a very small mining town that was built on the side of a mountain. But at that time I did not have a unbalanced body.
Going to dinner.
At least I can laugh at myself. Sharon.
Vern and I will join and travel Oregon together. Todd does not have many TV channels. They do not watch much TV. That would kill Vern.
Jeanette it did work then? If the computer takes a crap, then just paste what you saved and the part you saved will still be stored in your mouse even if the computer goes out.
Another short cut is to highlight all of the text you typed, by hitting control A for (highlight all), then copy it and past it when you need to, if you need to.
Us too, we watch alot of stuff in the evenings because we have two tivos. one records 2 shows and you can watch one the other records one and lets us watch one. So we have a lot of stuff to watch.
Wish we could figure out how to put more than one picture on here at a time. Want to show you what we were doing today. Here is one I bet Lee will recognize something here.
I know, nothing to do with what we were doing. We got these 2 from Pet Rescue a couple weeks ago. They are a trip. They will play real hard for an hour or so and then they both crash for a couple hours.
Dawn i do nut a question first. is it on your do not plant list or forbidden plants list for the great state of california? I ask this because if it is I get in trouble and the plant gets thrown out. I don't want either to happen.
JB: I have been over to cubits a few times and seem to get around ok. Like you I had issue with finding a store and then I ran across a little blurb about what the original thought was behind cubits. They invision everyone haveing their own "cube -it" most of its allowing for free enterprise to flow as well as form an online comunity. it said something to the effect of everyone shareing in the comunities success (at least thats what I "remember"). How the hell that would work no one knows. I am going to give it a whirl but I plan to remain right here as well. Like JB I want to get as much traffic as I can and sell stuff. I like this little corner of the web and I call it home.
Sharon you are probably right as we are on the warmer line of the usa. and I am sure I did something wrong because if I was outside I managed to get my butt moving and the weather most likely had gotten warmer. I am glad you seem to have survived the nature hike. I don't think i could have done it.
everyone have a safe remander of the holiday weekend
Dave
oops dawn sorry it was but I have a couple of questions lol
jeanette looks like miny greenhouses
Jnette
I thought you were putting the cut one down over the plants? yes no????
Jan
They sell them in all the nurseries here so I doubt they are invasive here. Pampas is and those bushes with the pink billowy flowers all over them. I can't remember what they are and some type of Bamboo.
I will get a look to see what I have. I know I have some 2 yr olds in 8" mum pots and I think I have a few in gallons. Most of what i have at the moment are lavender from seed. I bought some liners in of a few others to offer more of a selection. I will get some pics for you also.
Morning, what an interesting group of posts you guys came up with yesterday. First of all Jen, I WANT ONE..................the one called "Bob" . He is cute and handy. Do you sell those on eBay? As far as the jugs are concerned, I am still confused as to what you do with them.
I too thought you put them over the plants, then I thought maybe you have them filled and someway they drip and keep the bales damp. I guess I am just a dummy, The plants look great and it seems to be working well, I am completely amazed you can grow tomatoes in straw. Wow.
I am trying to figure out how much my 1989 Chevie Tahoe Ext. Cab pick up is worth. When you give them to charities they IRS needs a paper signed with the amount on it. Of course they have to get their noses into it. the Blue book only seems to go back to 1991. There are some on eBay for $1100 to $1400. Mine is loaded so I think I will take the $1400.
It is such a hassle to sell it privately. I do not dicker well and people come and look and want to dicker. I can not do it. I want the price I want and that is it.
Must get things ready to ship tomorrow. Later. Have a good day. You are all still in bed, so I will come back later. JB
Well, I am up and waiting for Tony to arrive so we can turn some tires and lay out some paths. Yesterday I went out and made stacks of most of the tires he brought yesterday so we will have room to work.
Got my T R Harvey papaya into an HEB (homemade earthbox) and it looks fin this morning.
My arms are healing up. I still have a few sore spots but the bandages keep me from mindlessly scratching at them.
I have to get some bedding in the washer.
Later, 'gator.
hugs, katie
Yes meadowyck, the ones that had broken bottoms and/or would not hold water we cut the bottoms out and covered the tomatoes. If we had to cut the bottoms out and the bottoms weren't broken we used for saucers. They make real good ones. Actually, I got them to cover the tomatoes so some of the good ones got cut up first and then I thought about heating the water to help keep the nighttime temps warmer in there. Might have to get some more. LOL
LOL, JB, I will trade for your truck. Bob says "She didn't call me a gray haired old dude did she?"
As far as the value goes, first of all if you sell privately just tell them the price is firm. No dickering. And stick to it. Next, I have given 3 vehicles to the Blind. The last time, I got a letter from them for taxes for the IRS, saying they had sold it at auction for $800.
Next, did you understand what I did with the jugs what I told Meadow? This year I switched from strawbales to alfalfa bales. Will wait to the end of the season for comparison.
Dave and JB, if you guys can figure out how to sell on Cubits more power to you. I can't figure out my way around it to buy anything. I have tried several times but given up. Don't have the patience I guess. Plus, I am on here enough with this site and don't have time to fool with it.
Still wish we could see some pictures of what you are doing Katie.
I may save the Cubits until winter when the selling is slow and I have time to play around.
I am not patient enough and if I can not find out how to sell it how can people find how to buy? What the Heck. I must agree with you jen, it is all I can do with this and eBay. Besides, I love that game on FB because it really keeps your memory alert and is challenge.
The AC guy just came and checked both of the big outside units. Thank God he did not find anything wrong. Just regular maintenance and we got it done before the heat really comes to stay. It is 90 plus here again to day and what a quick change. It did rain this morning. Small storm and no damage. Just a good rain. Yahoo, i do not have to irrigate today.
The Aimee 2 y.o. plants are blooming now and they are amazing. The blooms are so big for new plants. I am thrilled. I have them up on eBay and MarketPlace for $25 each. The new cuttings are not doing anything and I can not figure out why. Maybe the stock plants are on strike.
Time for Barney's bath. back later. JB
Jeanette: did the blind come pick up the vehicles you donated? do they have like a seeing eye dog run out in front of the car or what????
JB: kelley blue book http://www.kbb.com/ there you can decide exactly what is fair market value. If they sell it you have to wait to see what it sells for and thats your deduction. If they keep the truck Kim thinks its kelly blue book but she would have to look it up if you really wanna know that one. This is acording to my lovely wife who is a CPA and does taxes every year. There is a 3 to 4 month span where I barely see her and she is working 80 hours a week. I have seen it where she was going to work on wednesday and had 40 hours in already. Now if that lasted a 6 more weeks we would fit just nicely because as you all know spring is our busy time.
JB I think if we put our noggins together we could get it figuired out. I may be a bit slow on the math part though. I sometimes can get my soes off to count past 10. it gets kinds tricky then.
well its a day of ease and relaxing... after we run out and get the step son's clothes he left at a lady friends 6 weeks ago. big mess and I knew it was coming. one of those things you see coming 10 miles away and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
ok here is an add a friend let me post on her cubit. I think the pricing is way high but i wanted to set it up with out doing a whole cube myself. Thats next on the todo list. right after I fold up cuttings for the better part of the summer and go into maintenece mode.
http://cubits.org/flowersnursery/thread/view/57680/
please let me know what you think of it.
Dave
If I had pictures you would see piles of soil, old tires and rocks, with a few bouganviaala on one side. But as I told Tony as I wass gasping for air, when I look at it I see flowers and trees and fruit.
I'm worn out after two hours. We turned about six tires, set up the western path and commenced to shovel lots of soil through a screen. The rocks go in the tires for the path and the soil goes between the paths. Everything is bone dry now which makes the work much easier. Relatively speaking. If we can get the terracing done before hurrican season (approx early Sept) then any torrential rains that we get will soak in instead of washing all the top soil down to the bottom of the arroyo.
The weather is still tolerable for working, especially early in the morning. We cherish every little breeze. I am so happy with the way the work is going that I tend to wear out my feet and knees working with Tony which leaves all the work in the house undone for another day. As long as I get the dogs' dinner cooked they are happy. Much better than the average husband.
hugs, katie
Cross-posted.
Dave, I am amazed you do not hear loud sounds coming from cubits for putting DG links under the plants. You are one cutzy guy. LOL
The ad is long and wordy. You ask, I am telling you. But, in this case, it needs to be I guess.
I am used to laying it out in paragraphs and some titles....for example"
Prices:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Shipping
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
PAYMENT:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx
To me it makes it for easier reading and it does not all hang together in one big section.
That is just my opinion and God knows, I could be wrong in this case because of the contents and purpose. Just thinking outloud.
I must do some bookwork. Steaks and Salad tonight, Nothing fancy. Later. JB
I can't even find the market place on Cubits, thought maybe the law suit would not allow it or something. I see there is a seller there named Mamajack who sends me stuff all the time, but I don't know where people sell there. On their own cubit I assume.
Think you are all right about everything you said. LOL, not going to hear me say that often. Normally am very contrary. So bookmark it.
Yes, Dave, the blind people do bring their seeing eye horses to lead them with the cars. They can't see the dogs in front of the cars very good. So there. smack.
Gotta go work outside again. It is a wonderful day today. Very rare. I gave my tomatoes and peppers a wonderful meal today Dave. Tomato Fertilizer, Epsom Salts, Tarantula, Mychorrizae, Kelp, humic acid and helvic something blend. And for dessert, they got a little water to wash it all down with.
Does that sound like a winner or what? And then I put the jugs over the top of them to make mini greenhouses to keep them warm. I will pick tomatoes tomorrow.
Yes JB, I am on my second gin and tonic.
Here is my Earthbox with 2 tomatoes in it. I have ordered 2 red covers for it but in the meantime I put foil over the fertilizer so it would not get wet and wash down into the soil. 'cause that's the way the instructions said to do it.
The tube in front on the right side is for water. It has an overflow hole so you cannot get it too wet. You just keep it full until it runs out the overflow. It has 6 wheels, I think it is. And it rolls real easy. The trellis above is very stable and sturdy. So, I am anxious to see how it does. I can roll it into the sun all the time.
Oh, the cover only covers the box with holes cut for the tomatoes.
Two wonderful days in a row in Washington. And Jnette thought I might be a witch. I think I just proved it.
Jnette, that is a great idea about the plastic water bottles. Where do you buy them? I think Bob has beautiful white hair.
We are headed out again. I slept like a rock last night and woke with just a little pain. Todd has been giving me aspirin. I never take aspirin and it seems to kill the pain for me better than Tylenol.
Doing BBQ tonight so I need to get up and move. It is amazing how I can sit around when I am not at home. Todd's landscape is amazing. Everything laid out and nothing to take care of. Very pretty and manageable. Maybe I should try that instead of square inch gardening.
I did a rain lily, etc. co op with mammajack on cubits. It was a disaster. But she warned everyone it maybe. I have stayed away ever since.
I have my eye on some bulbs in Todd's back landscape that might find their way back to Nevada.
Dawn, Vegas had had terrible weather. How about you.
Later friends.
Cross post. Looks great.
One more. Dave, here is a picture of my little Blue Mouse Ears. Is it suppose to multiply like that? They must since I have several and they are all doing that. How big do they get to do that? I just got these last fall.
I don't remember what I ordered but I have 2 large hostas and a lot of small ones. Don't know yet what i will do with the little guys. I was going to put them on a small hill by the side of the deck but if I am going to move, I would like to take them with me. Maybe will leave them where they are for a bit.
Sharon, where did you have dinner by the river last night? You didn't say.
Bob felt pretty good about your comment on his hair. He said thank you.
Does Todd do his own maintenance in his yard Sharon? Bet he does. He probably takes after his mother on that one.
The bottles are Culligans. But they probably wouldn't go over very good in an HOA landscape. They might run you out as the last straw. They do work very good.
How is your ankle Sharon? I do that a lot because of my weak ankles. Just awful. You did do good to finish the hike. Sounds like Todd and family are enjoying all seasons of Washington State. Did he take you up and show you where they ski? 49 degrees North I think you said.
Next time you come up it will have to be later in the year and have him bring you up to Ione where they have the train rides up thru Z canyon, over the dam and to Metaline Falls. I think they normally start them on Father's day. Haven't seen a schedule this year. But they only run 6 weekends and I think 3 or 4 of them are in the fall for the colors.
Tell Todd about it. Bet they would enjoy the trip. I will try to get a schedule for him. We also have Down River Days up here and they have snowmobile races. They try to run the snowmobiles across the river. Problem is, it is normally so darned hot out that weekend. Think July or August.
You see, Todd and Family are going to have to find out what all the little towns around nearby have to celebrate whatever they do. Harvesting, etc. Lots to do in the summer too. Rodeos, fairs, etc.
How long are you going to be there for Sharon? I know you are worrying about your gardens.
Our winds have been off the charts crazy. We had a little break in the wind for a few minutes but it is coming back a bit now. Did I tell you guys my workers comp surgery was authorized. You may see me more often while I will be home except for PT. I am so relieved. A little nervous about the pain and anethstesia but mostly relieved to be getting it done without too long of a fight.
Yes you did tell us Dawn. I asked what surgery you were having but you didn't tell me.
good morning everyone. how did we fair over the holiday? we ended up taking monday to rest and recoup. not much else going on today
have a good day
Good morning all,
I spent Sunday stacking tires (well, maybe for an hour or so). Yesterday I worked with Tony for almost tw3o hours. After he left at noon I went back down and got inspirred on how to proceed with the work which led to another couple of hours of moving tires around and doing some digging and sifting of soil.
Tony is here now and I showed him my idea. We thinnk it will work. One thing I try to avoid is re-doing stuff. Which is why we often work a little in one place, then a little in another while the ideas from the previous place clarify themselves. Luckily, we both work well this way.
I am very sore from working so much lately but I'm keeping at it. I spent so much of the winter laid up that I'm not in good shape. And I won't get into any kind of shape unless I keep at it.
Dawn, is it shoulder surgery you are having? It's good news that the surgery got approved. That's often the hardest part. TPlant (another DG person) just had a shoulder replaced. Amazing what they can do these days.
I'm going to get some plants in containers to make it easy for Tony to care for them while I'm gone.
See you all later.
hugs, katie
Katie, I agree with what you said about pictures just being tires and rocks, but those are the "before" pictures. Then when you send the "after" pictures we can see what all your ideas and efforts produced. That is the fun of pictures.
Also, would love to see what all of these plants are you keep naming that are not common to our areas.
