I want to see more of yours too Drew. Have you received your Philo. maximum and the var. giganteum yet? I'm looking forward to viewing those. We need a new thread.....hint, hint.
Tropical Garden # 101
Maximum is suppose to be here today and the Giganteum Saturday!
The Xanthosomas are almost ready!!! I am thinking a few weeks!
Here is the full range of the Erythrina
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/b/Papilionaceae/Erythrina/none/cultivar/0/
I've had the Heliconia for several years, and it hasn't bloomed- I think it might be a winter bloomer, which is a problem when your not in the tropics.
Yes, it's been while Rita since I've been the garden with the camera!
At last- we got rain last night.
Summer is here, the first appearance of the Dragonfly
Send some rain my way . . .we are over due. Last day of school with the kids . . . tomorrow is employee breakfast so I'll be out by lunch at the latest. I'm ready to have a day in the garden.
phuges I'm with ya on the rain. We are in a severe drought here. Just a half mile away is a pretty good size fire going. The Forestry division was down there most of day yesterday and all night...and it's so smokey out right now it's pretty uncomfortable to be outside.
They are fighting 4 fires in the immediate Deland/Deleon Springs area. I'm really worried we'll end up with another situation like 1998.

How horrible; I just watched the video.
Trucks just went back down the road and the helicopters with the buckets are flying back and forth again......
They keep saying it's under control....but this is the second time they've brought in the big front end loaders since yesterday. I really need to get back outside, just hoping the wind will shift a little.
So sorry, MJ. Hope things improve. Our weather forecast says tomorrow will be a change, and chance of rain.
Hang in there!
Oh my, be careful. It must be so scary knowing you could possibly have to evacuate yourself and the horses - a big job I would imagine.
It has been over a month since we have had a sprinkle, everyting is dry as tinder here too.
mjsponies.
Hope the fires are OUT!!!!
In my part of texas.had RAIN with 60mph winds.

Jerry; How many leaves reverted back to all green before variegating again?
Sorry to hear about your big leaf on the Maximum. I am sure the other leaves will start jamming to take it's place as "Big Leaves"
I will have many more varieties of Aroids this year! I will probably have to overwinter Alocasia "tubers" in lieu of plants, to give me a lot more space.
Rachel;I will ask some vendors I buy from, and keep my eyes open!
Candela, Thank you!
I'm just guessing here, but everyone is probably out gardening on this wonderful long weekend, huh? Not a single post since Friday, while I'm sure there are lots of new blooms and growth in the gardens to show. Only reason I'm indoors is - it's pretty hot here in the middle of the day to be out working. Evenings are lovely with the sea breeze, though.
My first bloom on passiflora 'Lady Margaret'. She is literally galloping up the new trellis that dh made for her and has lots more buds, too. Not bad considering she was a 6-inch pathetic start in a 2in. pot mid-April. So rewarding and so easy!
MJ, glad to hear you got rain. Are the fires out? I love that Snow Queen hibiscus, too. Had one at our other house, but not yet here.
We haven't had any rain in two weeks, but it's looked encouraging the last few days. T-storms have just gone around us, and yesterday nothing made it out to this coast. It will happen. My rain barrels are getting dry.
My yellow waterlily is getting more yellow!
dyssy,
The fires are "under control"...not as bad today but we've had that "old campfire smell", a lot depends on how the wind is blowing. But a least it's not where there's a dozen fire trucks and helicopters flying over head ! I so hope we all get much more rain. I might kick myself later, but at this point I'd welcome a tropical storm. (No hurricane, just a good "Frog Strangler" !!)
dyzzypyxxy
you are close to me so if you ever have a mind to want some company over to show off first those beautiful plants I sure hope you will contact me as I need a lot of help with plant selection of what will grown here and not to try.
Jan
Candela, tell me about the funky pot you are growing your Miracle Fruit in, is it to improve drainage? If so, how often do you have to water it and what are you fertilizing with? Sorry for all the questions but my Miracle Fruit is growing slower than molasses. Your plant looks so very healthy.
Ardesia;that's an air pot. LariAnn used them to grow Alocasia Robusta and a few others that needed really good drainage and promote the best root systems. You can find them at:
http://aroidiaresearch.org/airpots/
Candela; I think the name of the Black Magic is more commonly known as Xanthosoma Violaceum. Looks like two other Xanthosomas to the right of the Coral tree; X. Sagittifolium and X. Lime Zinger. They look Awesoe and the Borneo of course is the king.
Thanks Drew, have you used the air pots? I watched the video and while it looks like it would work well, what do yo do when you have to move a plant up to a larger pot? I imagine it would be tough to remove a root ball from a pot like that.
Also, d-mailing you about a banana
