I tried taking this at low light and also tried to brighten it up a little bit, I went to the page and looked, and here is a big one right between two ros bushes.

Will my Irises bloom twice in a season?
Maybe, but only if they are truly "reblooming" irises.
Just Google "reblooming irises" and find out all about them.
Believe me, they will find it!
I know you guys see Irises every day, so mine probably are not very remarkable, but when I see a picture of them when they were first growing, and look at a picture now, I think it is pretty impressive! So, I thought I would take a pic of the ones around the iron pole so you can see just how close to blooming they are!
I will probably keep the ones next to the fence, I can sit in the side yard and watch the Hummingbirds fliting from flower to flower. The others I am not so sure about, they are in a interesting place, It is really weird, it is the littlest ros bush, and it has lots of seedlings around it, I can't figure out how it made seedlings, it was not big enough to have flowers! Can you explain to me how it made seedlings without having flowers the previous year?
No. Sorry!
I just figured it out, last year I had another rose of sharon where the little one was, it died, but the seedlings are coming up now. So that solves that mystery!
Can I take a ros seedling put it in a small pot and it will grow?
You have nothing to lose by trying.
How did you like the Iris pics? It was kind of hard to get a good pic because it was windy and the plant kept moving.
Well, surprises happen every day and today was no exception. I went out to take a picture of my PURPLE iris that I was pretty sure had opened, but boy did I get a surprise, here is what I found. Believe me, I am NOT disappointed, my hubby said it could be due to a difference in soil between my neighbos and mine, could that be the case? I also read that just because it looks like it is going to be one color does not neccsarily mean it will be that color, but it is beautiful!
It smells so sweet!
I wonder what color the ones by the lattice will be?
Now you get to learn one of Nature's lessons...patience...GRIN
The iris is lovely, Teddy.
Does this Iris have a special name for this color? Or is it just a Burgundy Iris?
Every registered iris has a name but it would be extremely difficult (nearly impossible) to get a perfect identification on an iris such as yours. The fears of those who try to identify irises by name is that if they told you it was XYZ Burgundy you'd pass it along with that name and it may not be correct. When you do give pieces to others you can either show them your photo or tell them the color.
thanks pirl, you are always so helpful.
Will the Iris open up any more? I have tried to find out information on the web, but that confused me even more. Please tell me if it will open any more or is that it?
That's it. The flower will not open more and will start to go downhill tomorrow or the next day. Very carefully remove the "spent" (bloomed) flower so you don't break off any as yet unopened buds.
Is it possible to have two blooms in a pod together, it looks like the ones by the lattice, a couple of them have the bloom still curled up but exposed and it looks like there is another bloom in there? Would you like me to take a picture and show you what I mean?
Yes, that is another bud so be careful removing spent flowers.
That rust/burgundy iris is beautiful. Is this your first year in this house with these flowers?
Wonderful! If you get another color you may want to start labeling them as to color.
Teddy, your irises are beautiful! I am also a fan of purple, and love my plain old bearded irises for just that reason, but the burgundy color is very striking! I love it!
Good luck with the rest of your flowers this summer. It looks like you are off to a great start!
Thanks khopper, this is the first time I ever planted ANYTHING and everything is doing well. Like I said, they were supposed to be purple but I told my hubby as long as they bloom and are healthy, who cares what color they are, who knows, next year they could be purple. I have had a lot of people stop as they go by and comment on how striking they look.
Just so you're not disappointed - the burgundy irises will not be purple next year. They will remain burgundy.
If you go on the Iris Forum there are people who give away their extra irises, of all colors, for free to new subscribers just for the price of postage. You can't beat that offer.
The Irises are a little slow to open because it got cooler, and since it is warming up they are slowly opening up, it really looks strange when they do.
Here is the second one, as you can see they are opening kind of strange, but they are opening and like I said they are slightly darker than the others. I have been pinching off the spent blooms and dropping them on the ground is that okay? I know you said to do that if there is another bloom in the pod, should I do that with all of them?
