Teddy's plants

Lakeview, OH

I tried taking this at low light and also tried to brighten it up a little bit, I went to the page and looked, and here is a big one right between two ros bushes.

Lakeview, OH

I thought I would take some pics of my Irises, these by the ion pole are about ready to bloom, the ones at the lattice will follow soon after, when I planted those tubers, I had no idea they would get that big! They are huge! A friend said he had some white and yellow I could have.

Will my Irises bloom twice in a season?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Maybe, but only if they are truly "reblooming" irises.

Just Google "reblooming irises" and find out all about them.

Lakeview, OH

As you can tell, my morning glories are coming up, it will be interesting to see how they grow and how the colors will be. I might have made a mistake, some of the morning glories are not very close to the lattice, how will they grow?

Believe me, they will find it!

Lakeview, OH

I know you guys see Irises every day, so mine probably are not very remarkable, but when I see a picture of them when they were first growing, and look at a picture now, I think it is pretty impressive! So, I thought I would take a pic of the ones around the iron pole so you can see just how close to blooming they are!

They are not reblooming Irises. I may have another problem, I have ros seedlings all over the place, here is a picture of the ones next to the fence.

I will probably keep the ones next to the fence, I can sit in the side yard and watch the Hummingbirds fliting from flower to flower. The others I am not so sure about, they are in a interesting place, It is really weird, it is the littlest ros bush, and it has lots of seedlings around it, I can't figure out how it made seedlings, it was not big enough to have flowers! Can you explain to me how it made seedlings without having flowers the previous year?

No. Sorry!

Lakeview, OH

I just figured it out, last year I had another rose of sharon where the little one was, it died, but the seedlings are coming up now. So that solves that mystery!

Lakeview, OH

Can I take a ros seedling put it in a small pot and it will grow?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

You have nothing to lose by trying.

Lakeview, OH

Here is one close enough to smell!

I deadheaded my pink geraniums and boy does it look bare! I just watered it too, hopefully tomorrow I can put it back outside. It seems to like the sunshine and breeze. Like I said, it looks a little bare, but there are a lot of buds that have not opened yet.

How did you like the Iris pics? It was kind of hard to get a good pic because it was windy and the plant kept moving.

Lakeview, OH

Well, surprises happen every day and today was no exception. I went out to take a picture of my PURPLE iris that I was pretty sure had opened, but boy did I get a surprise, here is what I found. Believe me, I am NOT disappointed, my hubby said it could be due to a difference in soil between my neighbos and mine, could that be the case? I also read that just because it looks like it is going to be one color does not neccsarily mean it will be that color, but it is beautiful!

It smells so sweet!

I wonder what color the ones by the lattice will be?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Now you get to learn one of Nature's lessons...patience...GRIN

The iris is lovely, Teddy.

Lakeview, OH

Does this Iris have a special name for this color? Or is it just a Burgundy Iris?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Every registered iris has a name but it would be extremely difficult (nearly impossible) to get a perfect identification on an iris such as yours. The fears of those who try to identify irises by name is that if they told you it was XYZ Burgundy you'd pass it along with that name and it may not be correct. When you do give pieces to others you can either show them your photo or tell them the color.

Lakeview, OH

thanks pirl, you are always so helpful.

Lakeview, OH

Will the Iris open up any more? I have tried to find out information on the web, but that confused me even more. Please tell me if it will open any more or is that it?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

That's it. The flower will not open more and will start to go downhill tomorrow or the next day. Very carefully remove the "spent" (bloomed) flower so you don't break off any as yet unopened buds.

Lakeview, OH

I always wanted to see what the inside of one of the Iris blooms looked like and my hubby graciously helped me, isn't it beautiful?

Is it possible to have two blooms in a pod together, it looks like the ones by the lattice, a couple of them have the bloom still curled up but exposed and it looks like there is another bloom in there? Would you like me to take a picture and show you what I mean?

Lakeview, OH

I think you can see what I am talking about, the one bloom is just about ready to open and it looks like there is another in the same pod. Tell me if I am wrong or right.

Yes, that is another bud so be careful removing spent flowers.

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

That rust/burgundy iris is beautiful. Is this your first year in this house with these flowers?

Lakeview, OH

yep, and obviously all of the Irises are that color, 3 more bloomed last night and that is the color. These are the ones next to the lattice.

Wonderful! If you get another color you may want to start labeling them as to color.

Lakeview, OH

The Cosmos is growing like crazy, not ready to bloom yet of course. But still pretty.

Teddy, your irises are beautiful! I am also a fan of purple, and love my plain old bearded irises for just that reason, but the burgundy color is very striking! I love it!

Good luck with the rest of your flowers this summer. It looks like you are off to a great start!

Lakeview, OH

Thanks khopper, this is the first time I ever planted ANYTHING and everything is doing well. Like I said, they were supposed to be purple but I told my hubby as long as they bloom and are healthy, who cares what color they are, who knows, next year they could be purple. I have had a lot of people stop as they go by and comment on how striking they look.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Just so you're not disappointed - the burgundy irises will not be purple next year. They will remain burgundy.

If you go on the Iris Forum there are people who give away their extra irises, of all colors, for free to new subscribers just for the price of postage. You can't beat that offer.

Lakeview, OH

The Irises are a little slow to open because it got cooler, and since it is warming up they are slowly opening up, it really looks strange when they do.

Lakeview, OH

Explain this one for me, the ones that are opening today are slightly darker than the first ones, I have no idea why they are darker but that is ok. I thought you would like to see the fuzz on the Iris, it is a gold color, very very pretty.

Here is the second one, as you can see they are opening kind of strange, but they are opening and like I said they are slightly darker than the others. I have been pinching off the spent blooms and dropping them on the ground is that okay? I know you said to do that if there is another bloom in the pod, should I do that with all of them?
