Teddy -
first photo - the bud is dead center
second - the bud is on the right, next to the right hand leaf
third - it's on the left - look for the light green in your photo - that's the bud forming.
Teddy's plants
thanks, I saw them! I am very happy that I am going to have flowers this summer.
Every one around here thinks I am crazy because I talk about my flowers so much. So I will keep watching them and keeping you guys and gals up to date on what they are doing.
Never allow the opinions of anyone else to affect your love of gardening and flowers. They just don't know better so forgive them and keep on enjoying whatever you are growing.
Teddy: here's some eye candy for you...

My morning glories are starting to sprout already!
This is one of the arrangements at my father's funeral, there were quite a few but this was one I took home, it smells and feels real and there are Roses and tiger lilies I think, also got a bigger one that I am keeping outside and it has vines and pink geraniums in it. I will take a picture of it later.
That is a lovely arrangement Teddy. Roses and lilies have a wonderful fragrance.
I have the one arrangement next to me at my desk, so I can smell them whenever I turn in that direction. I love to smell flowers, how long can I keep the flowers before they die, it has a container that holds water, so I have been putting some in.
Dispose of the water every day and give it all fresh water. Keep them very cool but not freezing.
Rose of Sharon should bloom in July thought right now you're probably shaking your head and thinking I'm crazy. They grow fast and only bloom on "new wood".
what do you mean "new wood"?
New wood means new growth - new branches.
Hurray! They will grow and self-seed forever. I believe I read their seed remains viable for 80 years - probably longer than that.
The poor Hummingbirds won't know which one to go to irst, there will be so many!
Give them a sunny window in winter - October to May, very little food or water and you'll have them forever. They despise "wet feet" (too much water).
I've had one pot 19 years and other pots for a very long time.
I have this one outside by the front door, its been cool here and rainy, do you think they will be okay there?
Not if it remains sodden.
I brought them in, how long should I keep them in for?
Put them in a sunny window and do not water them. Put them back outside when all this rain is over and it's warmer outside.
You may want to tip the pot to the side and leave it that way in a sink for awhile to allow the excess water to drain properly.
You mean the rain will stop? I thought it was going to rain forever, it sure feels that way.
Don't stop building the ark!!!
I planted 3 packages of Morning Glories, so far only one sprout has come up, will more come up later? I don't see any other sprouts so far. How many blooms will you get with just one sprout? Do you think they will all grow but maybe all at a later date? I need help, I have never planted Morning Glories before, I just don't know what they will do, maybe they will grow better when it dries out. Maybe not.
They'll probably grow, Teddy, and next year you may be asking us how to get rid of them! Give them another week and let us know how they are doing then.
Teddy, how quickly something sprouts is merely an average. Not only do seeds depend on water and warmth, but also the looseness and other qualities of your soil, among other things. I have the feeling you'll end up with more than you need.
THAT'S what I am afraid of!!!!
Do you want me to document the opening of my Irises? They are HUGE! The Morning Glories are popping up now..
It's your thread, Teddy. Post away!
With all due respect, I think they are weeds.
how can you tell the dierence?
Maybe I'm wrong! I just went to Google and came up with a DG page that shows seedlings. Take a look:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/184035/
You may have some in the center of the photo, the extreme upper left, more on the bottom right (not extreme right). Keep taking photos as they grow and then put them on Plant Identification and the great people there will be able to identify them for you.
Could that be why the Rose of Sharon bush right beside it has no greenery on it? I was told the seedlings will take the nutrients from the mother plant, is that whappenend here? Because this plant looks dead, all the rest of them have at least SOME green on them, but this has none, I scratched the bark and it was brown.
It wouldn't have caused the Rose of Sharon to die (if it is dead) but you can move the seedlings since you'll have to at some point or you'll end up with a mess and most of the seedlings would be too close and likely not live.
Scratch the lowest part and tell us if that, too, is brown. I'm hoping for green for you.
