we have had more than enough rain i can,t stand another day in this house with my golf playing dh. he has a bad case of cabin fever.i don,t know what to tell him. i can,t stand it myself just have to put up with the weather not much anyone can do about it. hope you all are haveing good weather. love nettie
I see there are storms over your direction again. They seem to go from here right over there. Where are you from Ft. Smith?
I don't think that iris came from me Charleen
The 3 chicks are in the nest. Dad bought a fish in about an hour ago and fed them. Then flew off. Its getting dark there and I think there is a bad storm in the area
Such a tragic thing. Sure hope the babies are able to survive. I know both parents work together in careing for the babies so maybe the father will do overtime and it will be ok. Poor things.
Beautiful Iris Charleen. I really loved the yellow with reddish fuz inside I saw earlier. That was awesome!
It's a shame when such a beautiful bird is taken out by an airplane. Unfortunately bird collisions are quite common and very dangerous for both the bird and the airplane, and not much can be done to prevent it. A couple of years ago a New York passenger flight was taken down after hitting a flock of Canada geese and made a dramatic splashdown landing in the Hudson river. Luckily everybody survived but the goose.
Birds are always a problem, though. I have had personal encounters with crows, pigeons, seagulls, geese, and even a wild turkey once. Not to mention a host of smaller birds in flocks. Any pilot will try to avoid them as best they can, but that's not always possible. Kind of like trying to avoid deer on the highway.
Al
Oh, Yes. My brother was a truck driver, he told me don't try to dodge them (the deer): Just keep on going. Stop after it is hit of coarse but sometimes if you try to miss them you really have a wreck....
crit have you had enough rain i hope so we can,t stand much more river is out all in the river bottoms and they have closed the flood gates on blue mountain lake that only means more water for us can only get out one way to get out of here now. we had 2 bad storms today they say we may get more tomorrow hope they are wrong.
I was very sad to hear that they confirmed that it was the female from the Norfolk nest that was killed, hunting for her babies. That was the 1st ever Eagle Cam I ever watched. This year I have been mostly following the one in Decorah, Iowa but check in on the Norfolk ones occasionally. Very sad. I hope the Dad is able to finish raising them but I guess it's wait and see right now.
nettie ..... we have had about 2.75" here at my house since Sunday which is a perfect rain in my book. Had time to soak in and really do something beneficial. East of us around Muskogee had upwards of 13" and that came your way. Where exactly are you? I know you have mentioned Ft. Smith in some posts.
I was glad with my procrastination of getting my plants taken outside last weekend. We had pea to marbel size hail yesterday evening that covered the ground so much it looked like snow!!!!! It would of beaten them all to death. I stand by my rule here not to put anything out until May 1st. You just can't trust our weather. Although the nice rain we have been having would of been good for them, it would of been for naught after that hail!!!!
i did a post half an hour ago but my net poped off and shut down it has been doing that alot. and i get tirde of turning it back on im going to call magtell in the morning and see if they know what the problem is the water probly fiber optic runs under the river and the river is rolling right along if its not one thing its another. love nettie,

Really bad storms coming through tonight. Tornados wiped out Tuscaloosa Alabama , killed many, and another went through Birmingham on the ground not sure on damages there yet, but is bad.In Ga, now and NC now and one headed for us in a few minutes should be here. They said it was coming 60MPH and the wind has just started gusting bad. It supposed to be here around 1:20 am, and we are under a watch till around 5:00 am . Some places got hit bad already and more coming. Be safe everyone. Take cover and pray. Sure don't look good at all.
mekos! Hope you check in soon to let us know you are ok. Prayers sent up for all our friends to the east that they did not suffer from any of the traumatic weather I saw on the news. Prayers out for the families of those that lost their lives and the ones that lost their homes. Everyone out that way needs to check in to let us know that you are all OK. So worried, it was awful! Saw some of the video from over that way on the news. What an ominous looking tornado that went through Alabama. Been in one, but wasn't that massive. Don't want to be in another!!!!
That's why I've been out for the last 5 days. Since I'm a retired design engineer with NYSDOT, I get called for bridge watch duty during storms. Our team has 153 bridges in 3 counties to watch for damage and flood control. It's a lot of work, and a lot of travel time. So far we haven't made out too bad for damage, but some of our bridges are nearing flood stage. Creeks and valley streams are really high right now. I'll probably be out for another week or so.
Al
You be careful Al. I'm safe still looking for Charleen though. Haven't heard from her this morning. Around 200 dead or missing from Alabama and lots injured and homeless and no power. So bad there. My heart breaks for them. We had funnel clouds but we are ok here.
Hope everyone else is safe. May God bring sunshine and joy to all on this day!
Glad to hear from you mekos. I'm looking for charleen, elfie, robyn and all the others that live east of me
That's definately isn't After the Storm. Did that come from me Jan?
No, I got it a couple years ago. I get stuff misnamed all the time. People want something and have something not blooming and call it whatever to either sell it or trade for what they want. I may have got it on E-bay. Got stuff there with wrong names too. Not a problem, I like the color.
But IF I had got it from you was you gonna give me a replacement plant???? (IN that case I mighta did.) Hehehehe
Yay Jan - I'm glad your Duranta is blooming!! I lost mine but will get another this fall. They are so pretty when they fill out.
I just found out on a couple of other threads that I follow that our Tubby passed away this morning with his dear wife Shirley at his side. The "old timers" will remember Tubby well. Rest in peace dear friend. ♥ ♥ ♥
OH Kelly, I am so sorry. He was a sweetheart. I really enjoyed talking to him. I know he will be missed and pray for his family to be comforted. Thanks for letting us know.
What you mean you lost yours? I thought yours was a big bush. It don't get cold where you are what happened to it? Was Lucy on the prowl again?
My white lochroma plant. (might mispelled that).
That's pretty;o)
We had an unusually cold winter and of course after I had planted it in the ground - it never came back:o( I tried to blame it on Lucy but really it was the freak cold. Had it still been potted I could have brought it onto the south patio with the Brugs and other sensitive potted stuff...
Here's my bud on the Brug...
Gonna hit the sack - night folks!
Shouldn't be too much longer. You will see her skirt show and then it will all be worth the wait! Good night. I'm gonna turn in too. I'm tired.
Sending prayers for Shirley and all of Tubby's family. Thanks for letting us know. He fought a tough, long battle, and I'm glad he is now at peace with the Lord and in a better place. RIP dear Tubby. Sending prayers to all my friends to be safe from all the tornadoes, and bad weather. Please be careful and let us know how you all are doing when you can. Snowing here again, but that is so much better than the weather some of you are having.
