Giant iris on DG!
She's about to...59... Spring is here!
You know you've gotta go back and get some, LK. How pretty!
A Lily I bought at Lowe's a couple of weeks ago is way ahead of the planted bulbs, and it bloomed today, but the darn winds and rains were so strong, they beat most of the petals off the bloom. It still has several buds and can't wait to share pics when they open.
Off the beaten path, this is what we saw this afternoon.....a huge Gobbler strutting his stuff gobbling his head off for a Hen who ran into the woods while I was taking pics. This isn't the greatest shot since I don't have a longer lens and is 2 football fields from our back deck to the woods, but maybe you can just make out his long beard and fantastic tail display.
Oh that is awsome, what a great sight to see Fruity. Love it. Got some brugs and EE's in the ground today after work. *whew* I am tired.Joe and Charlie got me some rail road ties for the north fence flower garden. no more fighting the lawnmower and the flowers.
My pic isn't very good, but he was an awesome looking bird through the binoculars. I'd never seen a Gobbler trying to attract a Hen.
We picked up our new riding lawn mower today, our old one 14 years old was spitting and spurting and DH said the rear end was out. You should have seen him chugging along last Friday while we laughed our butts off....it sorta reminded me of the Beverly Hillbillies jalopy but was a whole lot funnier.
Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow when the grass has had a chance to dry out from today's rains?
Fruity, love those gobblers! They are so pretty, when they are out strutting like that!
Debra, looks like your going to have a bloom there pretty soon!
Hey marti, just wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!!!! Hope you have all you wanted.
Well, didn't get the million dollars I asked for , but got to spend the day in our booth at the Flea Market, working on my quilt, reading a book and visiting with all the nice people that came by. I made a cake and took it with me and shared with anyone who wanted a little piece. I had fun!!
I'm not caked out yet! So keep them coming. Everybody grab a piece of cake. PARTY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great idea, LK.
Happy Birthday Wishes to you, Marti! May all your blooms come true...lol Sounds like you spent your day having a wonderful time.
Finally have a chance to sit down, what a day. Divided daylilies, planted some new perennials, repotted a few houseplants, cooked (ugh), ran the sweeper, did laundry (or got a start), don't remember what else at the moment but I am pooped.
Your birds are beauties, Susie. Look at Frankie strutting, all puffed up.
Debra, hubby was in control of the new rider today but he'll pay for it tomorrow. And when the novelty of "men and their toys" eventually wears off, mowing will be my job again, which I really don't mind.....it's good thinking time.
Here's a pretty Tulip blooming today just for you, Marti.....
Thank you Fruity! I love that tulip. It is just breathtaking!!
LK, how do you make your musical notes? I only know how to do a smiley face. I use to have all kinds of emoticons that I could use, but not any more.
I'll take some cake! And lots of it.
Please put my husband and I in your prayers. BIG prayers, please. Thanks to everyone!
Thank you Debra ............ just some 'stuff'.
Well I am praying for you and your DH. LindaKay I hope your fingers are doing better..
To make the musical notes, use your number pad, not the numbers ont he top row of your key board, then hold down the Alt and at same time press 13 or 14, then let go. 13 makes the ♪ and 14 makes the ♫
Fingers are doing OK. Still sore. Hopefully PT tomorrow will start to help them?
♪ By Golly I Think I DID IT ♫ now teach me the hearts & Smilys i have had a hard time posting anything this morning

♪ ♫ .......lol Cool. Now I know how to make all kinds of characters!
If you use your alt and the number keys it gives you all kinds of emoticons. The colored ^_^ is used by entering ^ _ ^ without spaces between.
Yep, just go through your number pad, and you will find all kinds of characters to post!

WARNING WARNING Those that have a fear of snakes don't enlarge this photo. rofl.
Ok so I am still cleaning the junk from taking down 5 pine trees. Around noon it warmed up enough for me to go out and get to work.......well I pick up a pile of pine needles that I raked up the other day and guess what was looking at me.....things went flying to say the least....ugh! Not so afraid of snakes but don't want to be holding one....yuck....well it was cool enough he couldn't get himself going.......Lesson to self don't leave piles of pine needles.....
On another not so funny note, for at least 3 years I have been overwintering prennials by staking bags of mulch and building a fort and putting the pots inside. This has worked wonderfully. Except this year I left some of my lilies out in pots in the open, just in front of the fort and they did wonderful.....some of the smaller pots I put in the fort and covered with mulch....not a good idea! Some rodent got in there and dug a hole in each pot next to the lily bulb and ate the whole thing! Geehz! I knew lilies were tough cause I basically have some in the garden that don't seem like that have 2 inches of soil on top of them so I thought I would try just leaving pots out and then protecting some pots and see who did better....rofl. I guess when we had piles of snow some thing found a nice easy dinner.......
Debra, love the Voodoo lily. I can't grow one here. No place to keep it thru the winter except in the house and sister says "NO WAY" :(
Ewww, you can keep that snake up your way! Any idea of what kind it is?
There is a round up near Dallas if anyone can attend. It is on the 15th of May, on a Sunday. Wish it was a Saturday instead, but I think I am going to try and go!

Thanks for the warning...lol and ewww is right, LK! And NO I didn't enlarge the photo...lol
It looks like I lost a few Daylilies and Lilies I planted last year. Not sure why since they were mulched well and we had very little snow. Just no sign of life and, knock on wood, we don't have rodent critters so that wasn't the problem. A bunch of Lilies that have returned are 8-10" tall and have healthy tufts, and it won't be long before Daylilies start putting up scapes.
I don't have but a handful of Irises and a couple of them are just about to bust wide open.
I have one bud on my iris. boooooooooo. I guess maybe they bloom later here than they did at my other house. I was hoping thinning them would make them bloom this year. I still need to go take the cedar mulch I put on the a couple weeks ago off. On my 'todo' list.
I have several daylilies up about 6-8". I just planted some more that I got from a coop that was on here. I saved some of them to put in another bed. And I DID tag them this time. I know I planted a couple Stargazer last year, I hope that is one of them that is coming up! They smell soooooo good.
happ ........... do you do anything with your pine needles (besides make houses for snakes!)? We have a bunch of pine trees and I wondered if the pine needles could be used for anything?
MY LAP TOP DOESN'T HAVE IT POOIE, AND IT IS HIFALUTED TOO.
Oh man, that's too bad. Are you sure you were pressing alt and then the number? It doesn't show up until you let go of all the keys.
I am sure pine needles would make good mulch. My problem is they are so thick that nothing is growing there so I need to remove them to put grass, plus mine are dieased with pine wilt so they will be burned. I just can't do any more gardens until I can retire because I can't keep up with what I have and now I have 3 raised vegetable beds to boot. Too early to think but don't pine needles change the acidity of the soil?
The snake is a garter snake, can't think of the exact name right now. He thought the pine needles were great insulators...rofl.
I put that warning there just for you fruity. I don't mind them but I don't want them in my arms....uck. Nose to nose is not good.
Fruity I know all daylilies are beautiful, but hope you didn't lose any really special ones. Hopefully ones you got from us so we can send you new starts.
I have heard that pine needles are excellent mulch.
Debra, if you don't have the numbers on the side of the keyboard, those symbals will not work. I tried with mine too, and it will not work! So sorry!
☼ just wanted to say good night to all its been a long rainy cold day back tomorrow .
We have a small stand of pine trees next to where Elsa, my Clematis lives, and her bed is mulched with several inches of the needles. Just what was handy and close at the time and have read Clematis like cool wet feet and can tolerate warm tops. She's supposed to be in part shade, but that area only gets morning shade from the pines, so far --- so good.
Photo is a bloom today of Lily "Dream Catcher". See how the wind ripped off her first one last week? I've had so much to plant lately, the pot is just stuck in a hole of mulch til I can tend to her better. She came from Lowe's and already had buds, way ahead of the others.
My ring around my fir pine treeout front is mulched with leaves and pine needles from a christmas tree and the vinca is blooming profusley and the violets and iris are very happy.. no blooms on the iris yet, neighbor ladie across the street has blooming iris three ft tall but she gets west sun i get east sun, should I move the iris?
Maybe move a few of them, and see how they do?
Love that dream catcher, so pretty!
Oh Shucks! I posted my beautiful Iris on the wrong thread....It's on the Bday thread. so sorry.
Hello everyone & hugs
I;m just tickled pink today. Saw my first hummer and my chocolate vine is blooming for the first time!! I'm like a little kid at Christmas. I was sure it would never bloom. It's been there for 3 years and gets lots of leaves, but no blooms. I think the big tree we had taken down last year made a difference. It was getting a lot of morning sun. While we were eating dinner a flock of blue jays came through and there were 20 of them. What a noisy bunch. Anyway nature made me feel a little better today.
