She's about to...59... Spring is here!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Me too, Joyce, been outside since one o'clock raking and cupping up stray prennials to send away..

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

You guys I am sooooo excited. I went to town to mail a card and passed a garage sale in one of the old historical houses here. She had all kinds of antiques but setting over by the tree was this huge old birdbath! No price so I ask if she was going to sell it and I figured it would be alot of money, she said hadn't thought about it but how about 20.00! I almost fell over. I think I threw the money at her.....well story goes on cause I had to go get DH with the truck and it is soooo heavy and big we can't get it in the truck, so DH goes home and gets the tractor, drives it to town and loads the birdbath with the bucket. I haven't even cleaned it up yet where we rolled it from her front yard to the street but just had to show it to you all. I know he thinks I am crazy but you all will understand... ;) which is why I love you all..... Oh yeah the reason I am sure he was soooo easy to talk into doing all of this is it is our anniversary.....timing is every thing....rofl.

What a steal Happ!! I would have thrown the money at her and ran as fast as I could. :0) That has so much potential.

As some of you know I'm not really too good at keeping things identified. I sort of like surprises I guess. Well when I was organizing in the garage recently I came upon a box of some bulbs that I had ordered in the Fall. Most were paperwhites I was going to force. There were a few other bags of things. So I rip open the bags and plant the bulbs. Now it wouldn't have been hard to mark what was what, but where would the fun in knowing be. Anyway, this pot started blooming. Lovely magenta dahlias. Blooming inside no less..

I love dahlias and that one is a beauty. It is fun just to plant and wait...rofl. I had one of those plant and wait and wait, and it kept growing and growing and it was one of those stinky plants when it blooms I forget the name now, but finally had to post cause I had no idea what it was, but it was major cool growing.

Do I spy an orchid in the background blooming? Another one of my favs.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Love that birdbath! Happy anniversary too!
I love that color in that dahlia! what a lovely surprise.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Yepper Happ I got orchids out the wazoo here. Love 'em!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I have all of about 7 orchids right now. Do you put yours out in the summer? I went on a garden tour one time and this kid about 16 loved orchids and he had his hanging in the trees during the summer in these look like log cabin block planters. It was so cool. I have whatever is blooming on top of the table and the rest are scattered about. There is a commerical grower here who sells orchid plants and his place of business is the caves. Honest Missouri has all these caves and lots of them have been increased and there is warehousing and all kinds of things in them. I am extremely claustrophic so I don't know that I could drive in the cave to get to his place.

Still can't believe I got that birdbath. There aren't any cracks or anything. Wish I knew how old it was. DH was shocked when I showed him the price of birdbaths on the internet.

Would would post some pics of your orchids, please?

Love the Birdbath and the Dahlia. Happy Anniversary to a very special lady!
Hugs.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Thank you all for the anniversary wishes, 29 years....I can't even believe it has been that long. He asked me a while back if there was anything I really wanted and I told him yes. I want him to follow me around one whole day and do the things I need help with and that it wouldn't cost a dime, he paused smiled and said "surely there is something I can buy you, a new car, diamond, money is no object". rofl.....

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Happ, you are so lucky in that find,it is really special! and Happy Anniversary, I know it is special when you are with the one you love so long. Lovely dahlia, and it was a good day after work, son came over and moved a bunch of stuff and dug ups some stuff and well no date tonite I am exhausted. Neener, I havn't grown an orchid yet.. maybe this coming winter for a project..

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Sorry Happ I Thought I Posted a HAPPY ANIVERSARY & Guess i did not hope it was a fun night out with hubby ?)

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Thank you, both of you. We had a great night, we went with friends to dinner at the casino and then we gambled a little bit. I actually won so that was nice end to a great day. DH and I went to Menards this morning and he bought me 144 8x8x16 concrete blocks I had been wanting....such a romantic...rofl really that is what I wanted and they are now waiting for me on the trailer so out I go. Gonna make raised garden beds.I will be either broken or in amazing shape when I get done with this. I didn't know those block s weighed so much! Heck who needs to pay for a gym membership when you have a garden! rofl.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

I Feel the same way I get my workout from SPRIN TO _WINTER so i deserve the right to lay around in the winter :))))

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I just had a wonderful time sharing plants with a gal from work and her son Braxton, they just moved to a bigger place and needed plants. She was esctactic with her instant garden LOL

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I did that last spring with a woman and her 7 year old daughter that bought a house. I loaded her with plants all summer. She isn't too much a gardener but her Mom that babysits is and she had a ball.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Doesn't it make you feel good to share, and make them feel good? I shared a few brugs with a neighbor a few years ago, and she was so excited when they bloomed for her.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Well, she chose alot of shade prennieals, some part sun prennieals, and I gave her a large hibiscus shrub that I have three of, she loved it, gave her some annuals I started from seed, and a sweet autumn clematis, honeysuckle and morning glory vines, as well as salvias, zinnias, and some lillys. She got almost two of eveything I am growing outside. I gave her about fifteen ageratum plants, too, and a growing datura and some four oclocks,, shasta daiseys, monardas and rudbeckias. I think she wil be fine, am glad she took some of the autumn joy kalancho too. Oh and a foot high texas star hibiscus I grew from seed, it is white. She knows the hibiscus can't stay outside in winter.. I am glad she has spots for them. Son is biting at the bit for us to get started on his place.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

What is wrong my watch threads keep disappearing?!

Anywho, a very Happy Belated Anniversary, happ. And congrats on your yard sale birdbath --- don't you just love finding a bargain like that, they are few and far between here --- and what a score of "romantic" concrete blocks...lol You're my kind of gal, wanting gardening stuff for every holiday and special occasion.

It's a wonder Hubby hasn't had me committed but honestly he's as bad as I am. All I can say is his Mom, who used to have the most beautiful gardens, taught him well!

Debra, you're an amazing friend always willing to share so many of your plants. If she's ecstatic now, wait til she has blooms :)

Here's a collage of frilly Daffodils, I don't remember them being this pretty last year.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

yes she is

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Who, me???

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi everybody. Is it windy there? It's so windy here we don't need to comb our hair. Susan, love those blooms.
Happy Anniversary happ. and many, many more.
Debra, do you have many plants blooming now? Have you moved them outside yet? I wanted to start moving Angels out but we are having such strong winds and cold nights that I'm going to wait longer. when I move them out it will be to the patio so they will get filtered sun for a while before going into the ground. The Angels I have are so big and pretty and many of them will have to have larger pots before they can be planted in the ground.
Love & hugs to all
Faye

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

It is horrible windy here and has been since Sunday. Heavens it is all you can do is walk, without rocks in your pockets.

Faye, I wanna see that beautiful forest of Angels blooming, how wonderful will that be.

We are still having frost here and so no planting outside for us for a while.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Wind you say???? It's been windy here for the last 4 months. Seriously.. It never stops anymore. I feel like I live on the plains of Kansas. Yesterday I had to try to spread mulch in a 30 MPH wind. THat was fun...NOT!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Yeah the mulch blows back in your face.....lots of fun.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

yes windy & Cool here alday No BRUSH Burning here :)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Faye, how are you doing! Nice to see you pop in! Sorry to hear your having so much wind. it was windy here yesterday, but today is not too bad.
Please post pictures of your brugs when you can.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

The garage is not so crowded now. Have sold a few. $230. Still have the 2 tables full and that doesn't count those I've taken out for me.
I will continue selling them now until only those saved for me are left.
Still wishing I could be so lucky as you ladies who got to meet. Linda, do you have lots of plants coming up yet? My Iris have just started blooming and the Day lilies are really up.
When should I sow seeds outside, such as Morning Glory? Debra....help!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Your Iris are way ahead of mine, just have a handful but they were so pretty last year. I'm still waiting for a few plants to emerge from their Winter sleep. There's no sign of life from my Pink Guara and think it should already be putting on leaves. Lilies look good and have small tufts popping out and foliage on the Daylilies is growing like gangbusters. It won't be long before our gardens are about to....

(Ang) Bremerton, WA(Zone 8b)

It's windy here too. I made the mistake of walking with a plant in hand. I wound up with soil in my eyes and it still hurts.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Windy so bad yesterday and the day before, but calmer today. Faye if I were you I would start the mornging glorys in little cups with holes in the bottoms, set outside in the sun, unless you are still having freezes.. if you are then put them in the window sill, and when it is warm enough outside ( I have some out now) plant the cup and all into the ground, minus the bottom, or at least a big drainiage hole. cover the whole cup up.

Maya bloomed, Angels here are waiting strong arms to move them outside, we are going out one by one.. three are out already. I have grape hiyacynths , jonquils and tulips blooming, woodland violets are all blooming, old fashioned pear tree is blooming, redbuds, forsythia and lilacs. That is about it for blooms here..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

All I have blooming are the roses. And all I have coming back from last year is my monster white in the ground. No signs yet from any of the others. I have about 10 NOID cuttings that are growing, and I have to get them in pots or the ground soon! I bought a bunch of cuttings from Kenboy last year, and a few of them are just now putting on some leaves, so that makes about maybe 20 brugs I'll have for this year. Sure not the 60 I had last year. Some day I will figure out how to get through a winter!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Fruity your gaura should be leafed out by now. Mine is up here. If it doesn't come back maybe I can give you a start when you are here. The thing I learned about gaura is they say they are perennial, but they really are truly biennial. If they don't seed themselves they are goners. I have white and pink, but too soon to tell what came back.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Winds are out of the west today, not quite as strong but far from calm.
Only thing I have blooming are daffs, tulips are setting buds but that is it. Daylilies have lots of green on top, strawberries are going crazy. Sorry I ever planted them in a flower bed....talk about rampant ground cover....wowzer.

Wow so many brugs you guys. Still too early for me to even think about putting them outside. Sure will be glad when I can cause it sure is easier to water. Need to cut hibiscus back but it is blooming and I just hate to cut off the blooms!

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

GM ALL
We are haven a great rain today so I Know spring is here for it is not the white stuff :) My plants will love this .
sure my hair doo won't when i have to go out in it :)
Ya all have a great day back later in the day Oh Love to see your BLOOMS OF ANY THING
susie

(Ang) Bremerton, WA(Zone 8b)

I had a bit of positive and negative today. First, I just noticed Cherub has new growth. I am so thrilled. I found out my Mom has this one so I'm so happy Debra sent me it!

Second, I lost two of the cuttings she sent along with Cherub. They were nice healthy cuttings but I made quite a few mistakes. Has anyone ever gotten over confident only to serious crash in disappointment? Since my luck with Brugs had drastically improved over late winter I was a bit over confident. This AM I discovered the two had rotted. Right now I'm analyzing what I did and what I should do next time. I'm noticing I made a lot of mistakes with these two and kicking myself for getting cocky.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I am not sure cocky has a thing to do with it but more Mom nature and how she is feeling at the time. I think everyone has had triumphs and failure with the brugs.....least I can say you and I are in the same boat Ang.... ;)

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Eye surgery was done today and it's amazing the difference in my vision. If any of you have to have Cataract surgery and the ReStor Lens is an option, please take it. I will not have to use glasses or contacts at all.
Sounds like there are lots of plants about to and I'm ready for them. Linda I will not be putting mine in the ground until at least May. I will probably put them on the patio in filtered Sun next week but will still have to either move them back inside or cover them at night.
Debra thanks for the advice about the MG's. I'll get seeds in cups tomorrow.
Yep, I too lost some Angel cuttings, not sure but I think they didn't get enough water....or maybe to much.
Love & hugs
Faye
