I have gotten some in bloom.
Spring growth
The Hellebores are gorgeous...
Yikes! The weather is not cooperating! We had planned to leave fairly early, but now we just have to wait and see how bad it looks in the morning. if it's icy it can be really treacherous just getting from the car to the house...there are stone steps down from the driveway, then a stone walkway. New England charm in decent weather, but not fun now...sigh...
Some snow, but it seems to have stopped for now.
I was astounded at how bad your weather is till I realized ours is almost the same when I checked out accuweather. It's GOT to improve! Stay safe.
Thanks cathy 166, we are about 3-4 weeks behind you as far as growth goes.
Just planted my hellebores 1/2 the order. Its too wet to dig in clay.
Love the white crocus, Pixie....I've been ordering more white flowers for my garden...
the crocus are just darling Celeste!!
Love the crocus's! Spring can't be far behind them!
When do you head north?
Nice white crocus!
2 weeks and a few days and counting. It's painful doing the garden breakdown. I pawned off 6 lawn/leaf bags of gorgeous annuals on our construction/repair person's wife who made the mistake of saying the remaining plants were beautiful! lol You've never seen me move so fast digging up plant after plant to send them home with her! I have about one more day of working outside to get things "ready". Then I'll start on the inside of the house.
Yay, Sherrie. It must be hard leaving so many nice plants, Louise. I didn't plant many in the Villages....a Knockout rose that took care of itself, a few small azaleas, amaryllis, & a few annuals.....I didn't mind leaving them for the daffs!
Tres jolie.
pretty!!
That's great, Sherrie!!! My game plan next year, Marilyn, is to stick mostly to the native plant list instead of buying so many annuals for pots. I'll still do the veggies in big pots on the patio because I'm addicted to the fresh vegetables all winter, but I will cut back on the pots of color and beef up the blooming natives. I'm so smitten by the native petunia here. It is just a gorgeous shade of blue and stays in bloom most of the winter. I also love the tropical sage (the scarlet one) because it also stays in bloom with the brightest red flowers as long as you keep deadheading. This is just too much work every year. It has to be perennials in both places if I can keep a bit of discipline when we arrive!!! Yeah, right!! lol We spent another long day with the clean-up and put the Yakima on top of the car so Hank can put all of my pots and garden things in the shed. I'm close to finished with the outside stuff now.
love the color Debi!!
Sounds like a plan Louise! Oooh, love that hellebore....
VERY pretty, Debi!! I love the color too! How exciting for you!
yeah!!!... just looked at mine yesterday... way behind you
First sign of a daff-- about 2" showing. The ground is still hard as a rock. I bought heavy row covers to put over hoops, hope to warm up a bed or two for peas and spring greens. Last year I planted them 4/1 :(
Good forecast though- we're leaving this afternoon, back on Thursday. There should be a lot more going on by then...
Happy spring!
Pam
Beautiful color Deb!
Lucky you Jen, you'll be smelling it in no time!!
It's funny, when I bought that hellebore, the flowers were faded to light green and I liked it so much then, I didn't care what color they were before they faded.
Glad you are not disappointed about the growing conditions, Pam.....things will be better on Thurs......warm week coming.
Thanks, Robin. My tomatoes are potted up and happy, ditto tall snaps. Finally got to WS, but I guess it's really spring sowing...
I put holes in shoeboxes, taped Remay over the holes to prevent slugs, etc, then filled them with various containers and sowed lots of stuff, everything from poppies to lettuce. Can't wait to see what happens- with so much variety, some things will do well I'm sure.
Didn't put the row covers out this week, heavy rain and wind predicted, decided to wait.
It felt great to be there finally. Meanwhile, back in the city, the petunias are blooming. Welcome back, they said!
It's all good...
Pam
NYC, Pam?
Very pretty! I'm going to sprinkle the poppy & larkspur seeds out today.....noticed a lot of poppies have reseeded from last year.....
Crocus just starting to sprout.
Yes Victor, I've been in Manhattan all winter.
This weekend I took 2 flats of plants to the house, but now, back in NY, there seems to be just as much stuff on the windowsill as there was before. A few things have germinated-- penstemon, Heuchera, salvia azurea, nicotiana Langsdorfii, impatiens balfourii...
So....the shockwave white petunias are turning out to be a bicolor, quite pretty though...but not white...hmmmm....
Cool. Where in Manhattan?
Nice. I went to HS on E 44th.
