Betty, I gave in to the nap also. Wicked headache for several days, blaming it on the dental trip....but think I might have a sinus infection.
No, team didn't win, but he sure was walking on Cloud 9 when he got hom. Now he is at work til 2:00 a.m. Ugh.
Best/Worse and What did I learn today-visit with friends!
Kris, know I,like the hit weather vs blizzards bot from now intil end of October we can be outside and enjoy...doubt I could put up with your extreme heat and humidity...
Denny that's all one can do is their be...nor I have to lower the furnace..darts ca't win! What's with these headaches you and I both have?
Hey Everyone - thought I'd let ya know what I've been up to. I am just about done with the old bathroom as far as cleaning. I'll finish it yet tonight. I ran to town and got the Pepsi on sale and some veggies and bread and then I went and picked up a different starter for the JD tractor and some seed potatoes and onion sets. I told Tubby when I got home that I'd better get out there and get the garden cleaned off so I can move the potatoe beds. We grow ours under mulched leaves. I got Red Pontiac and Kennebec's. It sure helped get me in the mood.
Oh ya, while I was at WalMart I found paint on sale that they are discontining and so I got a quart for the bathroom and a gallon for the bedroom. I even got a gallon for the ceilings. I bought a new vanity top at Menard's and some towel racks. I didn't take the truck in for a new battery today, but will next week and then I can pick up the wood for the windows. I'm just about wore out thinking of what I've got to get done. I'll work on it when I get home tomorrow from work.
The wind is blowing terrible outside right now. I know there's a chance of some rain tonight into the morning and then it is to clear again. My twin brother called, they are camping for the first time. They had just gotten a new one last year, but decided to trade up for one that has a slide-out. I am anxious to see it. I know they will bring it sometime so we can see it. It is a 32ft one. They'll enjoy it and so will their dogs.
I put a meatloaf in the oven and I'll heat up some potatoes later. I did get some fresh asparagus. I just love the stuff. I have a special place in the garden for asparagus, but we never seem to get any in the ground and it takes a couple years before you can use it. Maybe I'll get it done this year? One never knows till they get started. Well I had better go and get something done till supper is ready. I'll try to check in later. If I don't have a great evening and do take it easy because there is always tomorrow. So sweet dreams to all!
Oh Shirley, that meal sounds so good! I can't wait for asparagus to grow here. I had never had it til about 15 years ago, and I just love it.
Want to give you a heads up Shirley, keep an eye on Tubby with the paint fumes. Sometimes it can irriate the lungs of someone with a compromised immune system.
The kids had to go out and run some errands, so we got "Subway" subs for dinner. That really hit the spot.
Betty, I do not know what is going on with these headaches but I sure don't like it. Tired of taking pain relief and it doesn't even touch it.
Hello To All !
Debbie - hope those headaches go away. Could be stress related? YAY SHANE ! So proud :)...
Shirley & all - we bought an asparagus plant last year.. it's just not something we see around here... so the odd plant caught my eye... didn't look like "Asparagus" to me... more a fern. Well 2 months ago I just knew we killed it... was completely gone. DH went to move our pink hibiscus (the one like yours) there... and saw an odd thing... looked like One Piece of asparagus coming out of the ground... so he left it. Funny thing... everytime I went to look at it... seemed about 3-6 inches higher... then today it started to leaf out... So we didn't kill it after all. But a neat plant.....
Betty - you write so beautifully... need to write a book or short story. I love reading about the stirrings of Spring.... I love it myself...
Elf - we had 80* today and sunny. Wish I could bottle and send to my northern DG Friends.... but I LOVE it here.. even in the heat of July.... take the bad with the good... which includes getting out in the yard today.
Keep thinking I'll post a pic of the greenery...but nothing looks great ....... Yet.....
Had a commercial shoot at that Nursery that bought a package from me Friday. Owner said that the "heat tolerant" annuals will be out in about 2-3 weeks... so I'm trying to wait to plant anything else... We do have tomatoes & peppers in the ground.....
We have the monthly Birthday party at MIL's tomorrow. This month it's DS and DNephew.....My In laws are so good to me...
I'll pop back in a bit...
Hugs,
Mary
I'm baaaaaaack - I dun losted ya, but I found you again!!
Open House tomorrow, and tonight doing finishing touches to make it look better. My DH started on doing baseboards, but couldn't get himself motivated I guess.....
Our hot tub is ....... well....... frozen! My DH knew the breaker tripped, but didn't reset the hot tub (he knew that, too!) when he put breaker back on.
So, today we found approx 4" of solid ice in the tub. Called a service company and they said "Do Not turn the tub on - put a small heater in the motor compartment and let it defrost the motor, etc"
Bob says he can hear some water trickling, so hopefully the pipes hadn't burst, etc......
The company said it would take 2 to 3 days to defrost it all. Hopefully it has sc#$%&d the tub, cuz it's part of the selling feature of our home......
Hello Susan ! So Glad to see you back ! Yes - Hot tub would be a great part of the sale of the home.... ((HUGS))
Mary
Mary how many years have you had the plant in the ground? When the aspargus get about 4-6" tall you take a knife and cut it with a knife. You stick the knife in ground and cut at an angle. When aspargus is let to get tall it goes to seed and unable to eat those stalks as they are hard and bitter. My Mom always added a little soil and sand on top till it was buried 12" or more to make it thick and plump. My DS from Missouri brings back some of the best I've ever tasted.
Susan glad to see you back amongst us. Hope everything is okay with the hot tub when it thaws. I never had a want for them, I always heard they were great, but refuse to put on bathing suit till weight is gone. The one DD in Omaha have one.
Well, I'm finishing my cup of coffee and will Tubby up and then get dressed for work. It didn't rain last night like they thought so that's okay. Will check in on everyone when I get back home. Have a great day to all!
Morning, breed bitter cold out there, doubtful I'll be ousted working today unless I want pneumonia! suchna hard frost that my car is white...great for the maple syrup run though.
Mary, hard to believe that just a few years ago when we got to meet you on this thread it was your hubby doing all the gardening, now look at you. In love with gardening!
Susan, today is your big day, after all the hard work both you and Bob put into adding extra touches to the house I'm sure someone will find it's right for them, then your search begins for a new home.
Think I'll make bacon and eggs for breakfast and go play in the craft room for a bit.
Hi Susan, We had the same issue with our HotTub. Ric was doing some electrical work when we were remodeling our laundry and mud/utility rooms. He was turning switches on and off and must have turned off the switch for the Hot Tub or it got bumped. Either way it was off for a few day in very cold weather before we found it. What a mess it wasn't completely frozen but it did freeze enough to break one of the pipes.
Shirley, You are one busy lady. We have an aspargus bed in the Veggie Garden it did take a few years to get going and now it producing a nice crop for us. Nothing like walking down to the garden and cutting a few stalks for diner. I cut little tiny ones for the Grands and they eat it right from the garden.
Betty I had an idea of what I wanted for the birthdays. Marissa age 7 got a Taylor Swift CD (she got a CD player from her Dad & my daughter) so Jul asked for CD for her. I also got her the cutest book. It is reuseable sticker book of the Disney Tangled the Rapunzel Story. The pages are thick and shiny and tell the story and there are a lot of stickers that can be peeled back off and moved around. Like the old Colorforms my kids had. I liked it so much that I bought another one for my younger GD to give to her at Easter. So I got Lily age 4 Melissa & Doug stamp sets. The one set has a heart, butterfly, smiley face, flowers and paw prints. The other set has baby zoo animals and they both come with washable ink pads. I just love the Melissa & Doug wooden toy sets they are so cute and Lily has many of their toys.
Shirley, you will be working half day right? Sorry but asparagus isn't one of my favorites...from the growth pattern you describe, it's almost like our fiddleheads ...Roger and the boys would go hunting for them early spring, almost same time as the murrels..
Kids will get many hours of enjoyment out of them Holly. Can't go wrong with c.c.'s....it's finding the artist of the day as their likes and dislikes are always changing.
Watching eat/pray/love then I'll get ambitious like Shirley, maybe! Lol
Oh Betty I just love those morrel mushrooms. They are hard to find and even harder to find a place to hunt them. They were selling for $20 a lb. last year. We haven't had any in years. I miss the blueberries I use to pick in Canada, they were small and delicious. Maybe some day again. If I do come up to that neck of the woods I'll let you know so I can stop in for a visit.
Tubby is up a set for the morning and I will be leaving here shortly. Yes I only work till 11. So I'll have the rest of the day to get things done. I thought that the kids from Omaha would come out, as we haven't seen them in over a month, but I'm sure they are busy. I just thought they'd want to see their Dad a bit more then they do, pay backs will be h--- some day.
See ya later, and good luck on the house Susan!
Nothing like our blueberries found near Sudbury Shirley, you'll have to come stay a bit and we'll go picking! 11am isn't too bad Shirley, keeps you on the workforce and still allows you to have time with Tubby.
Craft room is almost clean and organized ..just deciding if new table cloths are in order..bought 6 a few months ago..might brighten things up!
Shirley may I ask where do you work? I applied to Lowes for a part time seasonal job in their outside gardening dept. I got a call yesterday from the HR Dept they left a message and I am waiting for them to call back this morning.

Kris, how are you feeling today?
Can't ask for anything better than that..
Decided to go get fixings for spaghetti sauce once I get the ice odd my windshield
HAPPY SPRING!!!
Oh good Kris! No pain!!! I'm going to de-weed a very small area today and go next door and see what plants are coming up over there. I need another bed!!!!!
Susan I really hope you don't have any broken pipes!
Holly sounds like those presents will be enjoyed!
Shirley have a good day!!
Yesterday it started out perfect weather but the sun came out, not a bad thing but it sure got hot real fast. We planted a fig tree and going to plant 3 thorn-less blackberries today. I am not looking forward to that, Dave does everything the right way and it's also the hard way, getting the tiller out and tilling a hole, removing hundreds of rocks and adding dirt and fertilizer and tilling it all up together, that's work!! I'm into digging a hole as big as the thing itself and sticking it in it. lol
Well I better get busy, it's going to be hotter today which means no planting outside this afternoon. Right now it's 54 and I think we're supposed to get up to 75*.
Crissy, how wonderful, a fig tree...thanksgiving and Christmas was not a celebration unless we had fig pie..don't think I've had any since she's passed on!
Smiling here, all those trees taken down and now you are planting trees...I know, there is a difference. Kuhn blackberry plants..it will be fun just to walk out in your backyard and come in with the crop...you are all making me hankering for a veggie garden...
Have spaghetti sauce cooking so best I not go outside intil I turn it off, been doing good in the NOT burning everything, maybe I've turned a new leaf
Called mom, of course SIL had finger operated on and now mom is sure hers must be done, having major problems with her shoulders and on and on and on...tried to switch the subject but didn't work, I'll say like my brother mike, no fun just to call and chat!!
Greg is coming over at some point, putting a door on a cupboard that the hinge isn't working properly, have him put the gel seat I got last year onto the new bike...see what else I can find that needs fixing.
Picked up a few more branches in the ditch out front, on my way back I noticed the old birdhouse dad made me and I painted after he died is all but finished, paint peeling...maybe if I sand real good I could repaint it and salvage one more year!
Good Day!!
Happy first day Spring for sure, lol
Rolled right in with Rain.
Friday was a day kind of in and out work, Laundry finished by 10:p.m...Cleaned all the debris from yard and Did get to Menards for crescent stones, bummer I'm shy of about 50, so Will go back tomorrow and get the rest, but I also got 6 bags of mulch.
I've laid the back path with mulch and just about finished the rock bed under the wood racks, have about 2 feet left to do.
The weather has been perfect for working outside...A little coolish, but great for sifting and moving things around.
Betty, Love that you were able to burn all your sticks. I have not had my fire outside as of yet. By the time evening rolled around it was too windy and i was just too tired, so saving it again...But all my sticks have been picked up, broken down to a managable size and stacked as neatly as could be!
I think while it's raining I will admire my hard work and decide where to place the garden ornaments, They need to be clean and some need to be fixed..And this year, I am going to put the Gnomes out. But this year I am going to put stakes under them so they won't get knocked over.
Steve's making a nice Steak and Eggs breakfast! Then I will go pick up MIL for the Memorial for Danny. This morning put a hem in my slacks, lol 2 inches!
I hope you all have a great day, I'll see you later...
Well I'm home from work and just made Tubby a fried egg and toast. I'll finish my coffee and go change my clothes. I've got alot to get done today. I still have to unload the vehicle.
Holly I work at the hospital, I'm a unit sec. and pur orders in and answer phones etc. It keeps me very busy some days. I enjoy visiting with the Dr.s and working with most of the co-workers. There are always those that drive me crazy, but that is no matter where you work. I use to own a beauty shop, but sold it many years ago when Tubby was very sick. I miss doing hair in some ways and miss hearing about all their families and what was going on. I still keep in contact with some of the special ones and do hair yet for some. I hope you get the job at Lowes, I always said that would be fun.
Betty enjoy the day! Good luck with the spaghetti sauce, I haven't made homemade in a very long time.
Kris so glad to hear no pain! I sure hope it continues. Don't over do. I love it when it's 70 and above till the humidty starts. I can take that if there is a good breeze to go along with it.
Judy sounds like you have been keeping very busy. Enjoy breakfast and have a great day.
Crissy, your DH is right. You really have to get that ground worked up good and hole big for those trees to survive. Hope they all do well for ya.
Okay I better get off to work. Will check back later on today. have a Great Day everyone!
Oh my soo much to read with go back and do so in a bit.
Hello to all.
The weather was beautiful, kids had a blast and love love the camper.
Doing some laundry and getting dinner ready .
A bit chili out and calling for rain.
~~~~ Waving hello! Happy Spring to all my dear friends here!
Hope you're all taking comfort in the popping of various green things in the yard!
Just got home from a marathon walk around a indoor flea market, My DSIL and DD have decided that Sundays are the day to take me out window shopping and walking. My feet hurt,,,, but,,, it is only the regular hurt from walking around a huge building!! I got a couple of things for my swaps, did not spend much money at all!! But the things I got are soooo cool.
I am going to watch a little TV and then get back to work in the craft room!!
Talk to everyone later...
Well it's 6:30 and Tubby and I have had supper. I got the vehicle unloaded, am just about done with the old living room as far as cleaning, the new plates on the vehicles, the bathroom is done and it won't be long and I'll have to put Tubby to bed. I'll go down and finish the old living room and then I only have one room left tomorrow. I'll vacum and scrub upstairs Tues. and then it'll be time to start all over. If we don't get too much rain next week I'll try and clean off the garden so I can till. I am hoping that the new starter is the right one.
Tubby said he would go for dialysis tomorrow so that is good.
Well we wish everyone a good night and sweet dreams! See ya all for coffee in the AM. How about some coffee cake to go with it?
S&T
Hello All !
Just popping in for a bit. Glad folks seem to be having better days... Happy Spring ! Maybe the promise of Spring is helping all...
Yes - Betty - I am indeed loving it ! just SO much to learn. Shirley... DH and I don't really know what we are doing with the asparagus... Folks just don't grow it around here... so I'll take all the advice you can provide !
The question is that we only have ONE plant... so will it produce many stalks? and how many ? If the one stalk is the only thing we see coming out of the ground... I'm sure that's not what you mean to cut with a knife...because then the whole plant would be gone.... so any advice from you, Holly & anyone is greatly appreciated :)
I can tell from the little watering I did and the great changes I saw from it... that the next few weeks are going to be very exciting and changing out there !
Hugs All
Mary
I am going to my first RU in April!! And Goober is going with me!! We are excited!! It is on the Alabama / Florida border and only 3 to 4 hours from my house!!
After a nap and having my feet up for awhile, my feet donot hurt at all. I had really forgotten what it was like to have no pain,, strange what you get used too. Now to kill the pain in the rest of my body and I can do cartwheels again,,,lol Night all
Wow - Elf - That is so exciting ! Wish I could come! it's about 4 hours from me too... but I have so many trips in May... probably can't even if I were invited... Let me know what you are bringing & what you get...
Interested to see what folks have in our zone.
What DH really wants is some lily pads... Bet if we could get away to Florida...there are some on the lakes on my Grandpa's old property.... but can't just drive that far for lily pads can we ? DH just laughed when I told him I'd ask my aunt to mail them... but can't it be done? The Lily pads are $38.99 at the pond nursery here...
Hugs,
Mary
yaaaaaaaaaaay Kris - have fun, you and Goober, on your first RU!
Had our Open House today, and only one couple came by, looking for a house for their daughter. They didn't leave an offer, so I suppose they weren't that interested. They live in the area and wanted something close by for her.
Susan - don't let that get you down.... Sometimes DH and I would drop by open houses... and it's not unusual for the attendee's to be low... just a soft market... Spring is here... things will warm up and hopefully something will happen.
We went to MIL's today for the Monthly Bday Party... Brought Belle with us.... We celebrated DS and Nephew's bdays...
Boy did Belle enjoy the ride over there... here is a pic with DSD's..... LOL
Hugs
Mary
Good Evening!
Well I was in bed and trying to get some sleep but I heard this noise upstairs and something told me I better go check it out. Here was Tubby over half way out of the bed. He had dropped his lighter and was trying to retreive it. I had to move the wheelchair out of the way and finish lowering him to the floor. I got him lifted up to a sitting postion and then helped him get his legs squared away. We got his upper body up to the edge of the bed and then I helped get his knee up in a bent postion to stand. And with a prayer and the grace of God I managed to finish lifting him into bed. He of course became quite nauseas after that, but he is now tucked back in bed and I am so thankful. I believe he will sleep the rest of the night. I told him next tiime to just howler as that is why I have the monitor so I can hear him if he needs something and I would rather go pick something up for him rather then him. LOL! I tell ya that man just likes to keep me guessing. The main thing is he didn't get hurt. He did break a little piece off of the wheel chair, but nothing major. I know he shouldn't be smoking in bed, but what are you gonna do. I have decided what will be will be.
Now since I can't go right to sleep I thought I had better check in and see what is going on.
Laura I'm so glad you guys had a great time. It's just nice to get away from it all.
Betty I forgot to tell ya that is the cutiest darn frog I've ever seen. You are sure crafty. I'll have to show my one SIL if she ever comes out.
Mary, yes you want to cut the asparagus, even if it is only one plant. The more you cut the more it grows. If I was you guys I would either get somemore to put with it or plant seed. The rule is if it's a plant then you can't cut for two years and if it is seed you have to wait three years. I know it sounds crazy, but that's how it goes. My DM's us to be in the yard by the grape vines. She had like 12 or more at that time. It was pretty small area, but it did very well. She has the green thumb. This guy I seen at Menards the other day was buying 4-5 pkgs and each contained 8 plants. I would have if my spot was clean and ready as we still have a small pile of sand.
Elf that is a cute picture of Goober and your bird bath and gnomes. Are those fowers real? It really looks nice. Okay I'm dumb but what does RU stan for? Have a great time. It's good to hear that your foot is doing so much better and I hope you have good luck at the RA Dr. this week. You still may be able to do those cartwheels.
Joycet it is good to hear from you. Hope you to are enjoying springs arrival. Now that is officrally here I hope it just keeps getting better. I did see some little bitty crocuses by the shop today open. They were yellow and blue. I haven't taken a walk to the back flower bed yet. It is a real disaster and so I know that the tulips will have a hard time as the fence fell down and so there's a million things to get done out there and I need to get started.
Okay I am going to try and get some sleep. Will see ya in the morning. Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite. That 's what Mom always said. Who would have ever thought we would hear about those things again.
Night!
Hey Shirley -
THANK goodness you heard him! Yes - the asparagus we planted last year... so based on what you say... wait till next year to cut.... ?
RU on Daves Garden stands for a "Round Up" where folks share plants that they have... I've never been to one... but I would love to go... I need to go join up with some folks in my area who plan them... I did that last year but we gathered up plants and then they cancelled the RU... so didn't make it... or perhaps DH had to work...
HUGS,
Mary
Must be the night for lack of sleep, I am up because Mooch needed to go outside.
Yes Shirley the flowers are real!! Goober planted them. She really loves to garden.
A RU is a Round-Up. It is where a bunch of DGers get together and swap plants. It is supposed to be lots of fun and Goober & I are excited to be going.
Hey Elf ! Thank you ! I just posted the above quote on a past Band Members FB Status and I thought I would copy paste here .... (((HUGS)) Mary
