10,000 casualties and counting. Hope there will be no victims to that nuclear explosion.
Then there's that idiot in California who just had to take pictures of the tsunami when warned that the beaches are closed!!
♥♥ Sweet Interruptions ♥♥ 213
theres an idiot in every bunch
You got that right Sistah!
It cost that idiot his life unfortunately.
Are you through planting?? Remember Donna... Gapeahen??
She has an online nursery.
http://vincentgardens.com/
not done planting, and have ordered from donna about a month ago
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY PHYLLIS AND SUSAN!!!!!
From what I heard on CNN and The Weather Channel last night the earthquake moved the island 8 feet to the east, tilted the earth's axis up 112cm, and added 120 or something milliseconds to the time.
I was watching the wave hit the CA coast yesterday at work since Dave has a brother, two sisters, an uncle and some cousins all in the San Francisco Bay Area from Santa Cruz up through San Jose and up to San Francisco. Glad it had fizzled somewhat before it got there.
Sis, I'm sure she gave you a good deal!
Crissy, world's cartographers will be busy, and now we'll be aging faster!
Jokes aside, mother nature can't stop her course.
I will always wonder, with so much info at hands, and Japan being a very progressive country....why these many deaths can't be prevented.
Saw on tv, that there is an American casualty at the nuclear plant :(
Plans have been changed. Doing that trip by myself, but close by.
Anyway.. need the hours to finish a quilt!
now don't look at the imperfection of it not being totally straight through the squares or look close enough to see that a couple of the didnt get shifted around so each one was different next to another I tried and after I had it all sewn together after hours of moving around I found I still missed a couple LOL
Great job Phyllis!!
It's turning out beautiful. The sashing makes it the different blocks stand on their own! I like that checked border fabric too. Where did you get it?
Awesome!! Your mum would be so proud to have that. I bet she won't lay under it.. just show it off on the bed!
What imperfections?? Now I have to magnify the pics 10X!!
Lol!!! Kidding Phyllis... you truly did an awesome job. That sewing machine of yours must be happy to be resting!
I went to the store where we got my machine and the gal showed me some they had just gotten in which these were fabrics
it's gonna cost me close to 100 to get enough for the backing IF i go back and get more of the plaid ...but I might go with something different if I can find anything I like at walmart cause I still need the batting
http://www.thousandsofbolts.com/index.cfm
Try that online site Phyllis. Yes quilting can be a very expensive hobby.
Phyllis, that is so pretty! You have my address if she does not like it!!! ;)
www.whittles.com also has nice fabrics.
I forgot about whittles, LK.
That's another good site too.
hi gang
oh i wish i could take a break but i just potted up 50 astilbe , 25 ferns and repotted some flowers. I still have to do marigolds
pyhillis that quilt is very beautiful ! i love all the purples.
hope all is well with you people .
praying for japan .
well time to get seeding again.
sue
Jaye let me explain, don't think I'm angry, I'm not, just trying to put this all into prospective. This is so surreal it's hard to understand and the only reason I do understand is because I've lived in CA where they happen somewhat frequently.
The 9 foot title wave, think how tall that is even though half is on top and half is under the water, hit 5 minutes after the 8.9 earthquake. That huge surge was moving 500mph on the ocean (jet planes go between 200 & 300 mph at takeoff) and 50mph once it hit land, you know how fast 50mph is. There's nothing they could do, I don't care how prepared they are.
Earthquakes are weird, and a real strong one takes about 15 minutes for it to all click in your head that yes that was a strong earthquake that caused damage and 30 minutes to recover from dizziness, especially if you get motion sick like I do.
Remember, an 8.0 earthquake is total devastation. This quake, 100 times stronger, didn't break buildings in half or make the skyscrapers crumble, so yes they are set up and built for it, it was the Tsunami that caught everyone off guard because it happened so fast after the quake itself, people didn't have time to recover from the quake itself before they were being hit by this second thing, and a lot of people were focusing from the quake to themselves and if they had to help an injured person, or are they injured, or do I need to make any repairs on my mechanical equipment, or how can I get out of this building?? The brain just doesn't compute that fast.
Crissy darling, thank you for the clarification.
I had only experienced a light tremor and nothing major. Now I'm fully aware of possible scenarios.... and moreover 8.0 is incredibly strong.
Like you say, things happen in nanoseconds, before you know it.. you can get swept away.
I shouldn't be rash in making judgement of the evacuation system. Moreover, it's almost impossible to evacuate a whole island!
Remember when I was thinking of ordering a headstone for Ali?
I'm embarrass to say that I found one tucked away in the spare room. I don't recall buying it, and Kel insisted that someone from SI had sent it to me. Wish I remember the sistah and had indeed thanked her.
So sistah, dmail me if it's you.
My memory can play games with me when I'm under stress!!
Good night all.. love and hugs.. church tomorrow...will be bringing all petitions!
we got word from my cousin in Tokyo
Hi bros
The earthquake was quite a shaker even here in Tokyo causing damage and grinding all forms of transportation to a halt. I was in a meeting on the 28th floor of a 42F building and boy did it sway. First time in my life living in this country that I ducked under the table. So did my clients, who, after several minutes, got back out and resumed the meeting. Out the window I could see black smoke billowing out behind the TBS building on Odaiba.
Anyway, we're OK over here although we are still feeling aftershocks every 10 minutes or so!
Cheers,
and they kept on with the meeting !! how is that for some dedication LOLLLL
There are several types of quakes also
some are rolling and is like your drunk swaying side to side and some of just jerk you and you fall to your knees instantly
crissy were you in CA in the big san fran one back in 89 ? i was .
the other kind just is one huge jerking blow and you stand there saying " what the ? "
i hope your family is ok in the bay area crissy. ! sending hugs.
well i m still on my first cup of java come and get some
Jaye that earthquake was one decimal down from a 9.0. That's incredibly strong.
Sue I'm glad they're ok! YIKES but those buildings are built to sway. It was a 3ft tsunami that hit Santa Cruz and up the coast here and there, all it tore up were docks and boats, and the moron who wanted to go out in it. I saw some nice yachts floating out to sea, good thing the coast guard was out there catching all of them!
I didn't leave CA until 2007. I was in Modesto during the Loma Prieta quake, that one seemed to start out small and then suddenly one big shake, but I could see the ground move like ocean waves under the asphalt. It was funny, I was laying on my friends water bed and his friend was sitting in an antique chair next to the bed and he was one of those who liked to joke around all the time, he said, "There's an earthquake, we're having an earthquake!" Me and my friend on the water bed couldn't feel anything and we told him to be quiet, there was no earthquake, then all hell broke loose! Then I puked. LOL
Where were you Sue???
i was working at a day care center and i had 12 two yr olds huddled in my arms under a door way LOL yikes.
parents flew in the door with in min to get their kids. don't blame them.
funny on the water bed story LOLLL
i saw pics of santa cruz. yikes all the boats. it looked like a yacht rodeo with them floating out to see and the coast guard catching them LOL not funny but ..... kinda. yeah i don't get the guy who wated a picture ? and was killed. The poor family will have to live with that.
i don't near the ocean,rivers or creeks for 4 reason .
1. piranha
2. sharks
3. water snakes
4.jellyfish
four very good reason to not go in water.
even a swimming pool can keep me out , as in bacteria !!!
Oh My! Yeah I don't blame them!
I'm not fond of going into the water at the ocean, not afraid of anything it just does nothing for me. Lakes, swimming pools, and hot tubs are ok by me! I'm not really a water person, I'd rather be dry and comfortable.
Sue, that must be a big relief that your cousin's safe. What an experience for him. He must have remembered the lessons taught at school in case of an earthquake. And to resume the meeting after that?? Goodness.. I'd be wanting out of the building remembering 9/11!!
Too funny Sue. Piranhas.. sharks??? You're right about jellyfish.. they can sting!!
Well Crissy, Sue...you won't believe this, I can't swim!!! So I'm right there with you all when it comes to jumping in the ocean!!
But I did take a sailing lesson once, one main mast and 2 side sails, and the instructor told me I should stick to land, as I kept forgetting that when you move the rudder to the left, the boat will go to the right.. and I kept forgetting about the boom!!
As for the pool, let me stay at the shallow end!!
I'll take dry and comfy anytime too!!
It's getting pretty scary with the gas prices and recession hasn't left. Sorry sistahs who are still experiencing snow, that your heater will still be in use.
It's in the high 70s here, and soon Kelvin will have to put up with ceiling fans and raised windows. He will turn on the ac as soon as he comes in the house even when temps for me are comfy.
Guess he got to lose more weight.
Crissy..yikes.. your nerves just got to you when you realised it's really an earthquake. I might have puked too.
You'll never look at waterbed without thinking of that day.
By the way how far do you have to drive to work? Any chance of car pooling?
Awww Sue.. it's exasperating when all your pay would be in your tank.
LK, if you manage to read this.. we wish you and your dad a safe trip.
I know it will be one sad one for you, but remember, we're here for you.. and your dad will get much better care. Would be nice if he's pc savvy and you both could connect online.
Good night ladies.. sleep well.
Thanks Jaye, we leave Texas, Tuesday morning at 10:30, and we will get there about 5:00pm. I am leaving here tomorrow about noon, driving to San Antonio, spending the night, and going to the airport Tuesday morning. My son Andy will help me at the airport with Dad's chair and luggage.
I will check in when I can.
No worries.. take care of your affairs. We can wait for news.
Now I'm going to bed!!
good orning. i fee like its the middle of the night and its 7;30 uhg. i m so dragging
tomorow will be rough i have a 8 am house to clean so it will be like getting up at 5 am to drop kids off and such lOL
have a safe and gentle trip LK. miss you already !
Jaye i don't like sailing, my bro is the sailer . he can have it
welp i better go stuff some coffee down my gullut.
bbl
Good morning sistahs!!
Hope none of you are late for work!!
At my old job, whenever the time's changed, I would have a few operators taking advantage of the excuse that they didn't set their clocks!
But they never failed NOT be an hour early when the time's set an hour back!!
Then I'd have the grave yard shift's payroll adjusted to accomodate the extra "disappearing" hour worked.
Coffee is on. I did all my dishes this morning having that coffee to energize me! Could have just turn on the dishwasher, but feel like doing them myself.
Don't feel guilty if you're feeling lethargic Sue.
I wish you all unexpected happy surprises and big big hugs. Crissy, Synda, Twyla, Phyllis, Cookie, LK, Sue, Susan, Barb, Kathy, Marion, Judy and all that are lurking.
Have a good day everyone!

Jaye I get motion sick and an earthquake feels just like a small boat on water, makes me sicker than a dog.
I drive 45 minutes to work and live 20 minutes from the nearest town. Hence the Carrolla, 350 miles on 10 gallons of gas.
I've never done sailing and probably never will, that just looks like work and when I'm on a boat I want to do everything except work! LOL
Susan I feel your pain girl, I went to bed at 11 because my body thought it was 10, got jolted awake with a very close lightening strike at 4:30, was awake for an hour after that, so went to sleep about 5:30 and had to get up at 6:30. I'm pooped today but have plenty to do to keep me busy.
anyone heard from Cookie ? i miss her. i know i have been so busy . i have been a bad friend . Have not called her to see how things are.
poor crissy and the sickys with earth quakes. yuk no fun to be vomiting while shaking all around LOL ewwww.
we are home from karate. i get so bored at that class. Austin loves it but me and savannah are so bored watching it.
ate dinner , scarmbled eggs. chickens are laying like crazy but there is one that is not laying ? sooooo ? got to find out which one it is and well.... gonna have to have a girl to girl talk and go from there.
good night friends
Hi Jaye and Crissy - thanks for Birthday wishes
Sue - are you over the flu?
Yikes on the Tsunami - big, big tidal waves! Glad I'm "inland"
Crissy - your last msg - think you meant "Sue", not "Susan"?!
thanks for the links to the sites and liking the quilt I'm afraid though if mom doesn't like it one of my nieces may try to grab it up LOL
Keeping everyone the quake and Tsunami effected in my prayers
Morning sistahs!!
Sue, it's not only you that failed to check on Cookie.. me bad too!!
"Austin, don't you try your karate movements on your sister! If not, your mum will be high kickin' your behind!!" Oh for some country eggs.
Me can cook eggs in a thousand ways!! Cheap on the budget too!
Crissy, you are smart. Yep, we should avoid unnecessary work!!!
The only reason I quit with sailing is because it's a lot of work handling the ropes to the sails!!! Require all my strength fighting against the winds!!
Susan, isn't it terrible to be reading what's going on in Japan?
Now the nuclear sites are adding to their worries! Like one local woman said, the warnings given for the residents to stay indoors in case of a nuclear fallout.. but her home's destroyed from the Tsunami.
Phyillis, I can be your niece!!! I checked on that Whittles link and there are some tonal fabric that can be your backing.
Come on now.. you know your mum will be so thrilled to be gifted with something handmade from her favorite daughter!!
Cindy, if you're lurking, I'm wondering how Harlee's coming along?
It's not a truly perfect day for me if I don't finish a sewing project today!!
Hehehe.. Sistah Judy.. I'm trying hard to finish your row.
Hugs to all and I hope it's a good day for everyone!
Wondering Barb how's the grandsons' visit coming along? You must be having new fun!!
left a message on cookies voicemail. haven't heard back from her
Thanks Sis. Let's hope she's busy with her pond and return your call later.
How have you been doing?
Grandson's were a joy. They are back in school again and I have my quiet back. I guess I forgot what it's like when siblings argue. It's been a long time since I heard that and I don't like it now any more than I did way back when!!! But they really were so good. I know it's hard for brothers not to argue but they did keep it to a minimum. It's almost too quiet now! Heehee
im ok, a little tired and frazzled but ok. how are you doing? i need some ginger (hint hint)
Susan yes i m over my flu i think. I got new vitamins so i hope they help.
Jaye to funny on austin and his karate chopping his sis, How did you know !! ? LOL
Barb glad you had fun with the grands,
today was a busy day

but i did smack my head on her hoist . OUCH! it was smarts !!
i do enjoy this work. i feel like i got purpose again.
