Frank, you might not be cleaning up till fall!
Spring spending spree part 4
I can't believe you guys are already receiving plant orders up there!!! wowzer....I'd better get my buns moving and get up there while there are still some plants for sale! lol
dem - those are nice-looking new babies! Wow, Marilyn! 25 roses!! That's a thorny problem for sure! I was so proud that I pruned back my two bougainvillea standards without gloves today and didn't stick myself once! That's a real record for me!!
I forgot to mention that I bought a few other things while I was at Fairweather......one being Acer Peaches and Cream...beautiful little leaf buds! I think Jan had great fun being an enabler :)
I have P & C in a container. I like it.
what is striate?
Ronnie, you break the "skin" of the seed by filing it with a nail file or similiar
i have it also planted out - very nice and good choice weeze!
received my audubon society order today - two ruby slipped oakleaf hydrangea's, a ruby spice cleathra and a october daphne sedum - was happy with the size for the price.
TY you guys....I was hoping for your input.
Good to hear about the Audubon order. I didn't order from them but will in the future.
Thanks, I've been looking at the catalog, now I'll use it.
Yes, Weeze, I had great fun!!! I didn't remember that they don't do Discover and had no money in my pocket, I spent yours instead. :)))))
DW loves the Audubon catalog. She's been making a list and checkin' it twice ($$$$).
dem you really know how to make my day!!! (snowing into fall)!!!
take advantage of their 20% coupons - would not order without using it - the plants are not that big to pay full price
Frank, my mom was born in Alexander, now lives in Baileyville, bout 4 miles from the end of the airline at the Woodland/Calais split.......I refuse to visit unless it is btween last week of may last week of august. Otherwise, you get snowed on!
dem - I'm scheduled to start making a twice a week run to Calais in a few weeks. I'm assuming you were raised up here? or??
if you are like me you get a lot of catalogs - i had a couple sitting in the kitchen and finally opened them.
first one was Oakes daylillies - saw night embers for $40 and a couple others of similiar style at the same price.
opened can bourgondien and saw night embers for $17.
Wow hope those Oakes DL's are full grown!
Oakes sends huge clumps really but they are higher priced.
Opened the FW boxes. Looks great as always.
Thanks Jen...
Can't wait for the photos, guys! Sounds like everyone ordered some great plants!
Weeze, I love that Peaches and Cream! I'm really enjoying the vicarious joy of listening to what all everyone has ordered. It's hard for me to order plants because of our "snowbird condition".. You never know if they will hold the order for you or not. Once they went on and sent an order to the farm before we got there. I learned not to order ahead. :( So.......it's up to you guys to keep me joyful!! lol
Frank, no mom left years ago and came south(but not to much warmer weather darn it!) and then moved back about 24 yrs ago. I have fond memories of Mettybemps(sp) Crawford lake, Pleasant and Love lakes where family had camps every summer. Learned to swim at Love and fish at Crawford, I remember when Mcdonalds came to Calais...big doings!!!! If you drive up rt 9, beeb and wave at my moms! I have family scattered all over Maine and beyond, Greatgrams had 16 kids.
Dem, you're not very far from Meriden, right? My good friend lives there.
No, I used to work in Meriden for Hunters Ambulance, bout 30 minutes away.
For poor shot hunters??
LOL, them too!
We lived in Cheshire, close to Meriden, of course.
I've finally joined this thread. Took some time to catch up. Didn't read the previous three, just this one.
Allison, those are some nice things you're getting from HCG. I love them. Got some really nice things from them last year.
Jen, I adore those fairy houses! Too much money for me, but I could afford one of the doors. So cute! Love all the Gnome stuff. I especially like this one:

Nice haul on those primula from Seneca. Yes, too bad they are going out of business. I got a bunch of nice things from them last spring that are now coming up.
Celeste, I will have to look for that peony at Walmart. I buy Atlas pink gloves that support the S.G.Komen BCF, at a local nursery. That's a pretty delphinium. I think delphs are a short lived perennial anyhow, not just for us here. There are some that are longer lived. Here's one that Annie's Annuals and Perennials sells that they say is reliably perennial. http://www.anniesannuals.com/plt_lst/lists/general/lst.gen.asp?prodid=1624&prp_let=D
Frank, I just had to bookmark Greenhous Megastore for future reference. I usually end up getting lots of free pots, as people know I pot up plants to sell, but you never know when I might need more than what I have.
Dem, nice haul on the Wally World roses!
Bill, Audubon has several things I'd like to order. Broke now. Owe $800 on taxes between feds and state. Ouch!
I mentioned on another thread that I went to a local nursery in Bridgewater called Spillaine's. Anyhow, they were selling perennials from last year for $2 a pot. Most were 1 gal. pots. I got about 16
Cimicifuga 'Hillside Black Beauty' http://www.perennials.com/seeplant.html?item=1.153.060
Delphinium 'Cherry Blossom' (got 3 of those) http://www.bluestoneperennials.com/b/bp/DECBS.html

Nepeta 'Cool Cat' http://www.sunnyborder.com/plant-catalog/item/Nepeta/NEPCO.html

Aqualigia 'Blackcurrant Ice' http://streambankgardens.com/Aquilegia_flabellata_Blackcurrant_Ice.html
Plus I also got my weeping bald cyprus for only $5. (Taxodium distichum 'Cascade Falls') http://www.naturehills.com/product/cascade_falls_bald_cypress.aspx
I'm missing one plant in that list, but can't think of what that might be. Here is a picture of my pots, not including the tree, which I neglected to photograph.
Karen
great list at a great price.. good for you!!
Thanks! I will be a planting fool this coming weekend!
Karen
Brilliant haul. Some choice plants on that list. I should stop there some time. Buying plants that are now 2 years old is so much better than new puny plugs from this season. They will grow like gangbusters.
I am sad about Seneca closing. Ellen is moving on to new things, not sure what.
Speaking of plugs, I got another plug order as expected from a yahoo coop of some new TNN offerings. They look fine and DH re-potted them for a growing out in our GH to plant out in May. Most are going in a new bed so the Heuchera and Heucherella should add some long interesting leaf color so a good haul for 107.10. My local garden places would be selling them each at 12 to 15 bucks which would mean at least double the price and they would still be from the same year. Patti
3 Echinacea Phoenix
3 Heuchera Yellowstone
3 Heuchera Autumn Leaves
3 Heucherella Solar Power
2 Heucherella Redstone Falls
1 Heucherella Berry Fizz
3 Heuchera Pear Crisp
5 Kniphofia Creamsicle
Nice orders, ladies!
Ditto to what , Victor said. :))))))))
Double Ditto :)
Triple ditto
OK, I'm drooling! Went to Lowe's yesterday, & left with only garden fencing & paint chips......I was good.
Just got shipping confirmation on one of DW's orders: Crystal Peak Obedient plant, Keys of Heaven, Raspbery Moussse Tod Lily, Golden Chain Tree, 2 Amethyst Astilbe and 2 Milk and Honey Astilbe. Hope they're potted or I'll have to. Still have some snow and the ground is too wet.
Frank, nice list. I have always wanted a Golden Chain Tree. Maybe someday. I have been thinking of those astilbe's too as I don't have either one of them, but I think I should divide some of the one's I already have and use those in the new bed because they would be free. Over spent already this year. Bad. Patti
patti there is sale over you know where - i ordered 4 different - 8 total
Bill, you are very bad!
Good deal on that order, Patti. You got some nice stuff.
Yes, you're bad, Bill! Don't enable the poor woman!
Patti, I have been dividing things to spread around here. Did some hosta and primula so far. Will be doing a lot more hosta. I have quite a few areas I want to fill in. One area on the north side has lots of daffs that my sister moved there last year, and I want something to fill in the hide the dying foliage when the time comes. Hosta would fit the bill wonderfully.
