Karen, Hosta are great for that, so long as you don't have deer problems. I wish my primula needed dividing, but not yet though a couple are blooming. The deer pulled some new ones just planted out of the ground and then spit them out. Annoying. Patti

Spring spending spree part 4
At least they spit them out.......deer spit, icky.
oh I hate that
Patti, I had deer problems one year about 2 years ago with them eating my hostas and daylilies, but since then nothing. I'm glad they've stayed away.
Karen
After I raked out my shade garden, I found 3 huge airedale bathtubs! God only knows what he dug out, but I had hostas, astilbe, ferns, & bleeding heart in there.....
OH NO!!!!
AACCKKK!!!
Stopped at a Lowe's to pick up some paint samples and of course checked out the garden section. I could have spent some money, but I restrained myself. They had some nice-looking Pieris.
Oh, no is right, Marilyn! I would have had a fit!
I bought a beautiful Pieris at Lowe's 2 years ago that was blooming very nicely. Hasn't had a bloom since. It's in my secret garden area, which has a lot of shade. All I can think is that it's too much shade for it to bloom. Maybe I should move it. Here's a pic of it taken over the weekend. It's in the left hand corner of the photo, behind the owl.
Karen
Hey Karen I think someone has been drinking in your garden...LOL
Who? Who?
I bought a pieris last year for the foliage, don't really care for the blooms.
LOL! Those are old bottles my sister dug up from a very old trash pit on our property. Thought they were interesting, so put them in the bed.
Karen
ordered another 10 yrds of dirt today - 10 of compost will be ordered tomorrow
Sounds like what I need....
Anyone grow lithodora?
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53345/
saw it at Lowes today for $4 then later at a nursery for $12 for just a little bigger plant
sounds like it gets woody or dies out in the center
It's a beautiful blue.
Me but it's been hit or miss. I bought a six pack maybe 2-3 years ago, last year only 2 were still alive but very small.
I thought of you Celeste!
Celeste - I just bought a few new house flags. One has a fairy on it and will go up after Easter. Thought of you.
Might do one more quickie order with FW to finish off that side shade area.
You guys are so sweet, cant begin to tell you how that makes me feel!
I've been really down last few days, a young girl committed suicide here Monday night due to bullying and I just haven't been able to find the words of comfort or encouragement for anyone or anything.
Charlie finally came today and did my soul good and then I come here and you guys say that. Tears of appreciation flow along with the pain of knowing that that little 16 old did NOT have this...or maybe she wouldn't of taken her own life. So THANK YOU, FROM THE BOTTOM OF THIS BROKEN HEART FOR RANDOMLY THINKING OF ME AND TAKING THE TIME TO LET ME KNOW.
Celeste
Oh how terrible, Celeste. So sorry. Enough is enough with bullying. They need to get really serious. One problem is that parents talk to kids about being the victim of bullying. More need to talk to them about not being the bully.
Celeste, your deep sadness over this young woman's suicide is so understandable caused by a situations that is not fathomable. What is wrong with some of the world's inhabitants that choose to treat others so despicably? Bullying is like declaring a private war on someone out of the blue and getting a bunch of others to go along with it just for the fun of causing some one pain. So sorry for your struggles and for this poor girls family, friends and for the community who must now deal with the ugly problem and the perpetrators. I know you are blue, but here is a pretty one with a hopeful name just for you. Patti
I forgot to say it is Iris reticulata Harmony. Patti
Story in the news just last week about a girl who did a video on YouTube detailing her bullying. She just used printed cards. No speaking.
I'm so sorry Celeste, that is just terrible. I've been having a rough few days too, just got back from 1 coworkers calling hours for her brother, and will attend another Sunday for a coworkers sister, but that yound girl is so tragic.
I find everyone on DG comforting too.
Terrible news about that suicide! Her family must be devastated....our high school had a day-long presentation on bullying...hope it sunk in for those that needed it....sorry about your rough time as well, Debi......comforting thoughts sent out to both of you....
Yes, sorry, Deb. They have talk at most schools now, but it's not enough. Too many people still, whether unconsciously or not, see teasing and name-calling and picking on as just part of growing up - kind of like necessary hazing, they think it 'toughens' the kids up. Nothing could be further from the truth. I've related the story of how I tried to help out the only black kid in my HS class. It's a wonder he made it through. I heard from my English teacher friend he is well and was very happy.
If bullys had to face consequences maybe they'd stop. I wonder if they feel bad.
I'm glad, Victor. There was a neighborhood girl who bullied me.....younger, but much taller than I was.....she knocked me down & broke my glasses....I was too afraid to tell my parents, & I paid for them out of my babysitting money....then a friend & I were skating on the golf course pond, & she threw me to the ice & dislocated my shoulder.....I didn't say anything until my parents took me to the doc's....then the bullying stopped, because my parents made hers pay for the doctor bill.....
Oh Robin that's awful!
I teased a boy in 5th grade and made him cry in front of the class. The teacher thought it was 2 other students, and didn't believe me when I said I did it, I was always very shy and quiet. It's something I've never forgotten.
Wow, Debi....he must have done something to you ......
No, he really didn't. He just went to another kid's house who had slapped me as I walked past his house, so I told everyone they were friends.
Hope the slapper got his comeuppance!
How terrible, Robin.
I'm not messin' with Deb. ^_^
But I felt bad that I did it,
That's why you're not a bully.
Celeste, how awful for that girl and her family. I hate to hear about things like that. Yes, people need to get tougher on the bullies. It's getting so bad. Cyberspace can be horrible if abused, as can anything. It's so nice we have this community here where we can lift each other up when we're down. I was bullied heavily in school, so I can relate. Thank God they didn't have the internet back then. It was a good thing I had a wonderful parents who really cared and a select few good friends from out of town. Take it easy, and I hope you feel better soon.
Marilyn, what an awful thing to happen to you. Good thing it stopped after the parents had to pay.
You have a conscience, Debi. Not everyone does.
Karen
There was just a preview for tonight's news that mentioned a facebook page for girls and bullying
It is usually in a group of bullies. there is a learder or 2 & the others go along in self-defense as bullies can turn on them. there needs to be a school psycologist to help out, NOT money wasted.
Terrible Celeste, CSI episode tonight was about that
