Thought I'd move us over seeing as all our rooms are decorated with Valentine Cards, I-love you and let's not forget the yummy cakes provided by a lot of you..
Mid-afternoon Cathy and her mom dropped by, thought I'd be at work, they had made Valentines for the windows, baloons and treats..I got donuts, furries got cookies...was nice of them!

That quite a feat in itself..
Let's hope 'Best of Category' tonight...

Best of Breed is something to be very proud of. Does she sell puppies?
I am looking in my little yard figuring what to do. Afraid to put anything out still to early.
Betty I will sent leftovers this week. Anything else you may need let me know.
Yes it is an achievement, think it's one if not the most renoun Dog Show, so yes, she works very hard with her dogs. Actually they've become her life.. Just going to go see if I can reach her on her cel.
Think the next competition is around 7:30pm..sure hope I get it in my neck of the woods...
Ooohhh I think it's a bit early isn't it for setting things out in the yard, weather has been so unpredictable.
I'll gladly accept your leftovers..
Congrats on the 3 years in a row! She must be so thrilled! tell her congrats for us!
Wow Betty that is AWESOME for your sister!!!!
just got word, DIL and GD will be here tomorrow night!!! wooohoo!!! I have sewing stuff every where, that has to move....don't want her to get hurt on pins and needles, scissors...etc....also moved candles and such that is dangerous out of the way...instead of low on the coffee table.....they will stay till Friday afternoon...go to her moms, south of here for a few weeks...then be back for a few weeks here!!!
How much fun that will be Thunder..you'll have to take photo's for us.
Just had my bath, think I'll get my e-book out and relax for the evening, normally I'd be sleeping in 1/2 hr. but want to stay awake until the Westminster show comes on..let's see if I make it.
Betty those shows are amazing. I bet your sister is just thrilled.
what did I learn today? I learned that arrowtooth flounder is the worst fish I have ever attempted to cook or eat. I looked it up in my Dictionary of Fishes and this type of flounder has an enzyme in the flesh that makes it turn to mush when cooked. I tried frying the filets and they became so mushy that they had to removed from the pan with a spoon. They might make decent fish loaf, or croquettes or even patties because of the addition of eggs, but I doubt it. The beautiful graphics on the package are lies. Buying food becomes more and more perilous with reduced or weakened ingredients, lots of added water, this mislabeled on purpose.
I wish I could lead an on-line movement, say on Facebook, to complain loudly to the Consumer's Protection Agency which is part of the Federal Trader Commission, I think. Of course, the CPA has to get lots of complaints from different people before they take action.
Congratulations to your sister Betty!! That is absolutely awesome!!
That sucks!! You probably could do that...
Hello To All !
Happy Valentines Day (((HUGS))) for everyone...
Thank you Betty ! Just knowing you are all there for me makes everything better....it really does :)
Thunder - you absolutely MADE my day with this: "Mary I have read the book through once, and am on the second go round !!! I like it a lot!!! I owe Judy some quilting,(from a swap) and will send her the book, with the blocks...she is next... on my sewing "to do" list..."
I was SO so so hoping you would like the book too !......
Thank you for planning to send to Judy... You probably understand after reading why I thought it would be fun to send "around" to everyone interested...
I've let DH "out" of the doghouse... He really did make my Valentine special....I just couldn't be mad anymore...
We had a beautiful day today... high of around 75... our usual temps.. not like the gloominess we've had which is unusual for here... Wish I could send today all bottled up to you all.....
Hopefully will help get out of the doldrums and I'll be back on with the Night Shift as usual...
Hugs,
Mary
Betty - re: burning spaghetti - I was funnin' ya, girl!! boy..... you sounded so serious.... ;-)
Well, another Valentine's is over and done with..... what a day! I baked 4 red velvet cakes, to take to work, and when I was putting one on another plate, it broke and part of it landed on the floor. I scraped the part from the floor into the garbage, and "cleaned up" the part that stayed on the plate so it looked like it had parts eaten, but the rest looked ok.
Then, I got all the tablecloths on the tables and set the napkins, and the cake tower with the 3 1/2 cakes.
I'm not part of the Social Committee y'understand, but it seems like I did everything, and even had to dictate the email to the company about the winner of the prize - 1 doz red roses. I even picked up the roses and paid for them.....
One person brought 2 cupcake cakes (1 doz cupcakes per cake - 1/2 vanilla and 1/2 chocolate, so everyone gets their preference), but no one else did Anything (that's not true - one person had people send in their Valentine's story to them, and chose the best one for the doz roses)...... and I'm not on the Committee.....
That's it for me - they'll "sink or swim" but I'm not going to even have them send me meeting notes so I can make suggestions on what to do...... no more!! There are 5 people on the Committee, and 2 pulled out "for this time, cuz I'm busy".......
We'll see how they do without the "control freak" LOL
Morning everyone, was in a rush this morning and didn't get to make the coffee but Cathy and her mom dropped off donuts for me yesterday, I'll share those if you wish....
LOL, Susan, things like that never excite me..too used to burning things, and lordy, why would I ever take it wrong..everyone here is so caring nobody would say anything to hurt anyones feelings...now, picture me laughing at the burning comment, excited that I did not burn it and re-read this post..
"Susan, no I did not burn the spaghetti this time, everything perfect and family much appreciative." can you hear the laughter in my typing????lol..silly girl, omg, don't tell me you are taking part in the social club..lots & lots of work ahead of you even though you think it's not time consuming, lordy it is..photo's of the cake you made, if I can't eat any then I'd love to see it..
Mary, sounds as though the February blues has all but left..Valentines day is a great day to make 'peace'! Sometimes you just have to let things go..I always said 'sorry' wasn't worth the energy it took to prove I was right. Cannot wait Mary for that bottle of sunshine to arrive, actually, they are calling for warm weather arriving on Friday..just in time for my long-weekend. Didn't find the book at the library on e-books so when it's circulating could you put my name on the 'read' list...tks...
Betty, I'm not a fish eater so never cook fish but this doesn't seem right that it turns into 'mush' could it be 'old' fish? the company must have a site that you can comment on??? Nothing worse than having a hankering for a meal and it not turn out right.
Sharon didn't win in the next category but is thrilled with her winning..watched the show, almost fell asleep a few times but did see Gramme walk Innukschuk ...some dogs are soooo ugly they are actually cute!
Susan that sucks. You need to bail out or join that committee! Seems as thought they're relying on you to do it all and that's ridiculous!!
LOL Betty that's hilarious, and true!! I'm so sorry Sharon didn't win the next category but YAY to a 3 time Best in Breed win!!!
No, I read up on it and am sure that the enzyme is causing it. The fish was bought in a pack of frozen filets. After I thawed them I drained them, even squeezed down on them on paper towels to make sure there wasn't a lot of water in them.
I still have some but have no idea what I will do with them.
Not sure Betty that I'd take the time to cook it, think it would be a lesson well learned and off into garbage..oh wait, do you have a kitty you could share it with?
Afternoon everyone! Beautiful day again here! 77 yesterday, and all this week! I know we may have more light freezes, so still no gardening!
Here I am, sitting with sweater, micro heater on and I'm inside with furnace running and you have 77 degrees weather..just know I'm living in the wrong neck of the woods..must ask my boys if they'd miss me moving south..lol
Ann just called, she and Mike went to Barrie this morning for Mike's chemo, after checking him out they did not do chemo, did a little operation as his lung had completely collapsed! he's in the hospital, will be sending him to NewMarket in the morning for another operation..Ann says he's just not doing well! She's holding up as best she can but knows what is coming. They sure could use some prayers.
Come on down Betty we got to 55 today.
Been running all over today.
Still trying to finish tree skirt.
Those temps are just making me yearn for warm weather.
Anxious to see that tree skirt..you must start from early morning and work till late at night on your project.
OK, I lied about the temp, it in 81 now!
Betty, so sorry to hear about Mike and his lung collapsing! Sening lots of prayers for Mike, and (((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))) to Ann!
Betty so sorry to hear about Mike.
No, I wish I could sew all day. I sew between TAXI runs.
LK wow 81 I cannot wait till we get there.
Sun setting and 44 now.
omgoodness, Betty - poor Mike! At least it happened at the right time - he was already at the hospital!
pictures of the red velvet cake - I'll get it later.
I will not be doing anything more for the Social Committee - they can ask for things of me (donate some baking perhaps), but I will NOT volunteer information, or to do stuff. No More! They're adults, or they shouldn't be at work!! They can "sink or swim"!! And that's my "soap box" for the day LOL
Hello To All !
Goodness Susan...you have definitely done way more than your share... let the other folks pick up the burden next time !
LK - once again we are enjoying the same weather... I turned on my car AC for the first time today. (and remembered the funny noise it makes when AC is on from time to time.) Wish Crissy were here cuz she'd probably figure the noise out and tell me what to do...
Laura - I can't picture Maryland having such warm weather.... is this the norm for ya'll ? (Not that I'd know...but we southerners just picture you all up north engulfed in snow...)
Betty - I would be thrilled if Judy would send you the book once she's received & read it. But regardless... we will get you a copy somehow because I know what a wonderful person you are that I think you would love it too and understand the underlying meaning...
I'm so so sorry about Mike!
Sorry to the other Betty... DH is Cajun and does all the fish cooking here. He might know.
I walked past him in the living room and he is watching the dog show Betty1... my first comment/joke .. "So you're planning to start showing Belle?" (Mutt= no way on that) so I bragged about your sister to him... and he was SO impressed.....started explaining what a HUGE deal that was... he has done some showing of dogs in a past life... nothing major...
I'll check back in a bit. Hope everyone doing well. Missing all.... Barb, Bev, Judy, Debbie, Shirley/Tubby, Thunder... etc.... have you all found the new thread?
((HUGS))
Mary
Hi Mary..I'm not lost this time!!!! working crazy hours..trying to get some sewing done....
Yay ! Thunder ! I can't imagine the hours you are working! I know my DS is working odd hours...
DH gets aggravated at him because when he works 3p-10p... he sleeps the major part of the next day... but I think I can understand a bit better because Mom worked as a Psychiatric nurse... the 230-11p shift most my teen years and I remember she slept at odd hours too....
((HUGS)) let me know when you mail Whirligig to Judy :)
I have to finish the sewing for her....will be at least few weeks....
If I get to thinking it will take longer....I will send the book.
I took it to work with me today, and sat outside for my lunch and enjoyed it in the sunshine! felt very good, been very dreary here for awhile...
Oh Thunder... Don't be in a hurry... I did the same. Read and then Re-read..... There were so many things I missed when I read the first time... Please Please take your time.....
We've had the dreary weather here too last week. Today and yesterday FINALLY sunshine ! It's amazing what it does for my attitude on nearly everything.... ((HUGS))
Hugs back at ya!!!! and thanks...
I REALLY enjoyed the read today...was like having a friend sitting there in the sunshine with me....thinking of you .....
Oh Mary how wonderful to be able to turn your AC on even if it does make an annoying sound. The sound can't be any worse or annoying than my singing in the car. My mam was Welsh and a trained singer so much to her consternation I cannot carry a tune.lol noone wants to hear me sing.
I am sure I speak for Betty too but I am very envious of your southern temps although I know I would be crabbing about the days the temps were over 100*s.
Dentist bright and early at 8am. I am so terrified of the dentist that I try to get the first apptment of the day so I don't stew about going all day. It is bad enough that I can't sleep the night before my appointment. My dentist "Doc" is wonderful and does not believe in pain but I still have horrible memories of a dentist when I was a kid. This is the third go round with the root canal on the same tooth and I am hoping it is the last for that particular tooth. Doc has my gold cap that came off all ready to go back on - just hope it can be used again.
All your talk of sewing is making me wish I had not given my sewing machine away when we moved to this house 9 years ago.I did give it to a friend who is a Psychiatric nurse who works with outpatients - they have an extensive daily programme for the patients and the machine has been put to good use.Now that makes me feel good.
Who is the author of Whirligig? I am sure you have told us Mary but I can't remember and I am too lazy at the moment to go back and find it.Very intruiged by the title of the book.
Laura you are going to have to start charging for 'mom's taxi service' Don't all parents say that at some time or another? A friend of mine 'charged' her kids for the taxi service - they had to do a specific chore for each ride they received. As they got older and realized none of their friends were being 'charged' they began to arrange rides with their friends....lol
Judy how are you feeling? Hope the crud has been banished from your house - no more sickies this winter right? How about you Susan?
Didn't get a chance to watch the Westminister Betty but how wonderful for your sister. Arctic dogs are particularly hard to train for obedience - they want to work not do silly obedience. Your sister must have a special gift and alot of patience.
Time to stoke the wood stove and take some time to read - maybe that will lull me into sleep for a couple of hours.
Make sure you all do something nice for yourself today!
Dianne
Morning, thoughts will be with you today Dianne, not a fun day for sure sitting in a chair for hours..let's hope no pain and all goes well even with the gold cap...get those peddlepushers out Dianne, did you listen to the news for the weekend, mild temperatures..spring thaw for sure..lol..well almost..just think won't be long and it will all be behind us..
Know we say we're envious of the girls further south but then come summer when we're out enjoying months of 70's and 80's and they cannot go outside for heat and humidity we're smilling, not at them of course but of being able to enjoy the outdoors..just this morning in the tub, are you all like me, do your best thinking while bathing??? have to allow at least 1/2 hour morning/1/2 hour at night just to soak and plan my days..well this morning it was more planning on a pond that will catch water from the main pond..even got measurements..lol..would love to rush and purchase the lining and flowers but think that will have to wait.
Mary, I'm reading a e-book and it's based in NewOrleans at the time of Katrina..just downloaded it and have about 3 pages read so I'll let you know the name of the Author and how I like it, maybe it's something you might want to get...and yes, it is quite an accomplishment for Sharon, her back is continually giving her major grief and it takes a lot of work so not sure how many more years she'll be able to do it..that being said though, her goal is once her daughter is in college, few more years, she'll buy a place in Florida in the country and make runs for them and still breed, she thinks her elder sister (me) will move with her for winter months and then she'll buy another home here so she also can return during the winter..I'm sure it will come to pass...
Thunder you'll be busy with the family so no sewing for you, are you taking any extra days off???
Glad Susan that you have decided to let them sink or swim..you already have much on your plate..trailer on the market, any viewing happening?
Well, it's time to get the furries in and fed, do my hair and start my day..
It's been so nice this morning waking up to friends chatting..we missed you Mary..night shift was awfully quiet...
Waving to all, talk later
Hello Everyone...
Missing you all, but staying far away, because i am still very, very sick!!
All I can do is sleep. Had a very short cople days thought I was better and BAM, right back with me with a vengence!
Right now have a bit of energy,so thought I better check in.
Hope you all are doing well.
Oh Judy, sorry to hear you are now well..thought you might have overdone at the Bahama party...hugs ..back to bed and rest! Have you been to the doctors to make sure it's just the flu and not something that should be treated asap?
Just gabing with Sharon, she arrived home last night, omg, she was at NYC airport and got a call from Orangeville (where she lives) police. She's quite the time with her 1 adoptive daughters, one is now living on her own, the second one is 16..well, a 22 year old man from England arrived at the airport, guess they questioned him and he told them he was meeting Nikki and staying with her for 2 weeks..the more they question him the more they were suspicious...
Sharon has a meeting this morning with the police, as the man has a 2 week ticket he has nowhere to go and they say they cannot get him back so think she'll pay extra for immediate return ticket..
Nikki's dad and Sharon hope she's learned a lot from gabbing with strangers on the web..must say some photo's they put on the web are enough to give the wrong impression.
Oh My! That is so dangerous doing things like that! Glad the cops caught him! Can you imagine coming home from the dog show to find your 16 year old daughter with a house guest for 2 weeks! Sounds like it is time to take away her computer!
Judy, sorry your not feeling well. Sounds like you over did it this week-end! Time for you to get some rest girl!
Nikki told her mom that she had no idea he was coming..police say he has autism and could most likely could put something into their conversation that wasn't there, but I'm doubtful..she's quite a hand full..she the young woman who can play any instrument, high grades, writes songs/music like the pro, given every opportunity in life, wealthy parents who give her everything but seems it's just not enough..hard love I think is needed!
Good Morning to All!
Well, it's suppose to get up to almost 60* here today, the temps have been around there for the last week. The snow is disappearing and it's very sloppy out. It makes me think of all the work that needs to be done outside, but will have to wait for a while longer. I know we will still get some snow and freezing temps. It just makes a person plan and dream. I better get in gear and finish up the inside work.
Hope all goes well for everyone today. Tubby is in the recliner and resting. We have dialysis today. I'm gonna talk to them about doing this all at home, I hope all goes well. They gave me the financial papers for this nutrition they want to give Tubby while getting dialysis. WOW! It isn't cheap, I need to talk to them some more to get answers, but right now I don't see how we can afford it.
Sorry to hear about Mike and Ann. Please let them know we are saying prayers for them and HUGS are there for them as well. Hope you are feeling better Betty after your fall. Dianne I dislike the dentist also. I have dentures so it's nice to know I don't have to go to them very often. My dentist when a kid was an old Army dentist and you didn't get anything for pain unless he was going to pull it.
Betty, so proud to hear how well your Sis did at Westminister. That was a wonderful picture of her and her dog. It's fun to say you sort of know someone there.
Well, I need to go get a few things done before we leave for the day. Will try and check back later. We wish all of you a Great Day! and God Bless You All!
Shirley
Betty you were posting at the same time. I'm sorry to hear about Sharon's daughter. These kids put out too much information about themselves and I agree the pictures are unreal. It's hard to get them to understand that they don't tell all and there's things they don't do. I wish her the best.
Well off I go to get those chores started. Chat later!
