I have found that if I have Hens and Chicks that were outside, and brought them in to overwinter, they died! I lost a whole strawberry jar full of Hens and tons of Chicks that I had always left outside at the other house. I, unthinking, brought it in again with a bunch of babies that I am trying to get started in it again, and just put it outside again because it just set there. My suspicion is if they are outside, leave them there year round. I'm not sure about growing them inside. I never have luck with that.
She's about to...58, Spring is almost here!
Hens N CHICK Love the out door & winter. & I have a couple projects for them this summer so anyone have any to get rid of send on to me I Will be happy to send the postage :)))
HAPPY PRESENDENT DAY I'm Off to Play in the dirt.
we are snowed in & Covered with ice on top of snow .
susie
happ ..... I did 'leave' the roses, but not totally. We still own the house so technically I still have the roses. This spring I am going to try to start from cuttings the ones I particularly liked. Some of them I paid $25 for, which is a lot for me! I showed my tenant how to deadhead and prune, but I think I will go and prune them myself this spring. I just need to read up on starting roses from cuttings, I've never done that!
You be safe Susie!!!!
Poor you, Susie! BRRRR!!!
What kind of fun did you have in your dirt? Did you plant any seed cups yet?
I don't know about you all, but as soon as I clean up a dirt pile, I make another one. LOL I figure this ugly old basement is okay after all, and worth the fixin uppin.. my fix would be a bench, double sink like in a restauraunt, wire rack shelves on rollers and High Lumin track lights the whole ceiling way, some metal cross poles for hanging plants, and a humififier system, besides the two bubblers I use.
I Do hope you get your Dream Basement If Only I Had a Basement to Make Plans for :)
Still snowed in till later today but I have 10 more jugs to fill this morning but not sure what I Want to plant in them many of my seeds are annuals to be planted right out in the dirt in the spring.
Might do a few more Morning glories for my Hanging Baskets
ya all have a great day .
susie
Wish I had a plant room too! Right now I am using the outside shed, and I am so glad we don't get that cold for long periods. But I told hubby I was going to buy a greenhouse this year, and he said OK! ^_^ So I have been online looking, and don't even know where to start. I have seen some really nice ones, for about $1000.00.
Any input from you ladies?
This is the site I have been looking at, and some have free shipping! I just need to figure out what the "Clear, single-layer SnapGlas™ polycarbonate panels" are for the windows. Our heat here, will destroy any type of plastic in a few years.

Linda Kay, that looks like a good deal on greenhouses, I have looked at costco.com they have some good prices with free shipping and handling, and alot of them people have rated, caution read all the reports cause there are always someone who doesn't like what they got. I don't know anything about the greenhouses since I don't have one, looked, drooled, and wished for one. Also DG has a greenhouse forum.
Did anyone read about a canna virus going around and that some sellers won't be selling cannas this year. So if you buy some it said to isolate them until you know they are clean.
Thanks for the info, I will go looking for the green house forum!
Sorry to hear about the canna virus. I hate it when I get sick plants.
Great price With NO Shipping Charge to Boot. :) & Looks easy enough to assemble.
Happ thanks for the canna info where did you read that ???
Linda Kay, I thought that greenhouse you were looking at was the one, you can add extensions to it, if you find (rofl) that it is not big enough, which I think is a great thing! That is worth alot.
VERY NICE lOOKS lIKE A ROSE
Oh it is so pretty. I need to move south.
Ok, update on the kitchen, most of you know about it. If I remember correctly DH said January, and I said St. Patricks would be closer....well, it still isn't done, but he has the granite in and the sink and starting to plumb it, by golly we might have dirty dishes in it by this evening..... ;) Now the blacksplash, which I am dreading because I think it is going to be one of those things we have to agree on....and since it will be seen from every room of the house except the bedroom, it does matter......alot. After that I do believe the stove can come back in. He really has done a great job. Can't wait to get all my stuff out, it will be like Christmas.
Just checking in to say hello. Just got Ray home from the Hospital....yes, again. This time it was to replace his right kneecap. The knee was replaced 4 yrs ago, but the kneecap got messed up when he had foot surgery and was using his knee on a scooter for 8 weeks.
Love & hugs
Faye
Oh Faye, sorry to hear he was back in the hospital! Ouch on the knee cap! Sending prayers for a speedy recovery!
Hap, can't wait to see your finished kitchen! Bet you can't either?
Linday Kay, scary part is poor DH might be thinking I will cook then....rofl....Oh never mind I remembered I am not a good cook, so that will cure that, unless he thinks a pretty new kitchen will fix that. Naaah.
Oh Faye, I know you will take really good care of your hubby, just try to give yourself some of that good care if possible.
Gee Faye. Sorry to hear about Ray again. Seems to be a never ending rain of bad and worse news this winter. I sure hope it gets better soon. Take care of him as I know you will. Be thinking of you...
Faye,
So glad you dropped in to say HI and let us know about Ray. You will remain in our prayers!
Faye, I'm just thankful he was strong enough to even have the surgery after his bought of pneumonia. Give him a hug for me and tell him he'll be up making bologna and cheese sandwiches before he knows it :) Love you, lady!
Hugs to you and Ray, Faye.
*wave* to all of the rest of you... Sister has the cancer in three lumph nodes the new tests showed today, one is behind her collar bone... PET scan next to see if it is anywhere else.
After that depressing call, I came down here..
and here is my spirit lift of the day..
Thank you, Fruity.
On a prayer answered, my almost 40 yr old daughter and my grandson met with HIS dad for four days over the VDAY time.
LOVE has re-bloomed. ( She is very happy, after all she is the one who kicked him out 18 years ago) My GS is thrilled ...
I am still taking this all in..
Work will be my saving grace tommorrow...
Positive energy continually sent your way Debra. First off .... I can't believe you have an almost 40 year old daughter!!!!! WOW Have they not had any contact in all this time? Did GS know his dad. Enquiring minds want to know! Ok.... I'm just nosey.
Prayers being sent up for sis. Shelle is her name as I recall? She will be remembered several times a day.
Debra, sorry to hear about the sad news! But there are treatments out there! They are not easy to go through, but they do work! Glad you have your room downstairs to cheer you up a bit!
Sending prayers out to her, and more ((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))) for you!
Thank you all. Ray is doing great today but last night was pretty bad.
Debra, I am so sorry your DS has cancer. Your sister and you will stay in my prayers. My baby sister has it too, and each time I take her back for a checkup, I'm scared to death to hear the results of all the scans. I pray each time that God will give us the courage and strength to handle anything He has for us.
deejay, your Brugs are so healthy looking, what are you doing for them? and where are they located?
they are in My X Livingroom Very little light just all filtered mostly but i use Coffee grounds around the top of them they get a drink about every two weeks . & They have a floresent light on them . during the day that is it.
I shut all the heat vents off in the side of the house so it is not so hot.
Thanks Susie. Most of mine are still in the garage and since it has been so cold, I have kept the florescent lights on them all winter, only turning them off when it warms up enough for me to open the garage doors. Sure hope I'll be able to sell them this Spring. No way can I ever plant that many of anything.
I've got daylilies sprouting!!!!! And roses puting up leaves!!
Oh marti, some people have all the luck. I sprouted lots of snow last night! Anyone need any?
I had to drive down the field cause the road drifted again. Solid sheet of ice coming to work, left home at 7:30 got to work at 10:15.......read a couple of magazines while I was sitting in traffic.
Debra, I can't even imagine how you or your sister are feeling. Wish I could help, but you are all in my thoughts.
Send that white stuff North, happ, far North. You have a long enough commute as it is.
Ditto on the Daylilies, Marti. Isn't this such an exciting time of year?! Agastaches and a whole host of other plants are starting to peek out.
I also noticed a new crop of baby Monarda's. I'll dig a bunch up and put into pots to share with anyone here who wants some later on. I know you did, Debra, and think you ID'd it last year as Raspberry Wine. Photo is from last July. Your "Moonlight" Amaryllis is beautiful and am glad it made you smile. Mine's blooming too. Gosh, girl, I was hoping for better news about your Sis. Like LK encouraged, today's technology can be amazing, so don't you or her give up hope. {HUGS}
Gee whiz, it cost $45 to fill up my vehicle today and it was far from being empty, just trying to beat the inevitable increased cost of gas....again. Talk about deja vu from 2008.
Gas was $3.25 today at wal mart! That is terrible!
Gas is $3.35 here this weekend but they say 4.00 by summer but I just not going to get in a huff till we see.
We are at $3.09.
I would like to try some of the Monarda's Fruity. I think I may of put some out to wintersow last fall, I'd have to look. If anyone has any Agastache seeds, I would like to get some. I hear you all talking about them but don't have any or any seed.
Gas is $3.19 a gallon here and is predicted to rise another 6 cents by next week. I'm used to gas costing more in the Summer when folks are traveling, but prices this high this early are off the chart.
Gotcha down for Monarda seedlings, Patti. The pic above shows my plant in July and by the time Summer ended, it was easily 5' tall and stayed loaded with blooms from Summer til frost. You'll love growing Agastaches. I think I have 5 or 6 different ones. Each has it's own unique scent, and will send you divisions of my plants for you to try. They're among my favorite plants and are also major bee and butterfly magnets.
Girls, I am over loaded on monardas. I have sent seeds to practically everyone in my mixed seed bags. Now I have about 8 kinds, and they multiply fast. I love love love them. So do my hummers.
Thank You for the T&P's , my sister has a good attitude right now.
It is an up and down thing, akin to losing a loved one, when dealing with something you can't control. If I didn't have a supportive husband and some loving kids, and my dog, you guys and my basement garden, I would prolly be terribly depressed. I am worried more about her frame of mind than I am of her life.
I sure hope Ray and your sister both heal fast, Faye.
Susie your brugs look great! Did I send you any? Gee, I can never remember who I sent to and stuff.
A little contest cuz I can't sleep////// What is this and if you guess right, you can have it. I have only two of these to share. So two people can win one pot each.
Fruity, your Gardens are Gorgeous. I only grew one Agasteche, tutti frutti, it did not come back for me ..I always thought they were prennials here..
This is Kaitlyn... Only one cutting of her was taken, and given to my 40 yr old, and she kept it in clean water, under a fan, off her back storage room, in front of a window, and it is loaded with roots and loaded with leaves, I was so proud of her for that. I fully expected it to be gone, but she reminded me she is almost 40.
Her b/f that she had a son by was kicked out by her 18 years ago, when she was hot headed and thought kicking them out was the best thing to do..
She raised that boy by herself. She told me how she drove to Colorado with Chevy when he was 7 to meet his DAD for the first time, and she found him in a 45 person town, living in a boxcar. She said they all had a good time. Then nothing for another 7 years, and he calls out of the blue and says he is in town, they met up and had a "family" night.
Then he emailed her two weeks ago another almost 3 years later and says he is going to be in twon and wants to see his son. Now he lives in wisconsin, and is a truck driver. It was fall in love time for them, she says, and Chevy was happy to see it.
That is a prayer answered for my daughter. Well, he is gone again, on the road.. He has texted her and emailed her some pretty deep stuffs..
It would thrill me to see her finally have her man , the father of her son, actually up and marry her. We will see ;/
While you all sleep, I sit here and ramble. I witnessed to my son Sunday before last. He was talking suicide and depression and crap like that, it angered me to hear it and I smacked him on the head when he wouldn't look at me when I was talking to him. He hollered like a baby that it hurt. I said "Good, I have your attention then.." He will be 35 in September. He is single with a cat. He lost a good paying job with benefits when he got UA'd on a random check and tested positive for cannibis THC. He is a home owner and has been working a bone and back breaking job, plus living on a third less income since then. I told him if he wants to change his life, he has to either turn right or turn left, take another path, go thru an open door and maybe then he would find his way out of his plight. I asked him to pray every morning when he wakes up, "Thank You ,Lord, for this day" instead of Oh God what is going to F*&K my day up today. I told him he had to text me a fresh prayer every morning. He did. I saved them all. Monday, this week, I called him and asked him where my prayer was. I would always read it and text back Amen. He didn't give me an answer, but the rest of the week he prayed by text. I held his hand and prayed aloud when that Sunday happened, and asked God to clean out my son's ears, so that he can hear Him. I didn't pray for anything to improve any of our lives or for material things that day with him. When he ended my prayer with "Dear Lord, Please send my tax money Monday," I laffed and told him God isn't a Fairy GodFather. God does answer prayers, but sometimes the answers we get are not what we were hoping for. I also told my son that if he wants his life to change, he is going to have to stop doing something to make it change. For what it is worth, He is a good kid. His Birth Dad committed suicide when he was 1 year old. In front of us. Joe was a neighbor down the street. Joe was the Guardian Angel sent to watch over us after that. He has raised Charlie all these years as his own son.
I am glad I am joeswife.
