Jan,
My weather is good....lowest is 42, so go ahead and send mine if you want. Thanks so much and Happy Birthday!
If you will contact me, I will gladly send postage BEFORE you mail the plant, or I will trade you something.
I do have a Saint Vincent Lilac vine(Solanum seaforthianum) that grew from seed blooming for the first time.
Way to go! I have some seeds that I should start. How long did it take from seed to bloom?
We are going to have a few days in the mid to upper 70's so I moved all of the plants back out to the pool deck today and found this little cutie popping up in a container with Tecoma Stans ("Yellow Bells"). I've had these pop up in the lawn on occasion over the years and someone here on DG identified it for me back in 2006 but I couldn't for the life of me remember the name. When my laptop crashed a year or so ago I lost all of my files and photo's but after a couple of hours of googling and searching I finally found the identity of this plant. It's called a "Lawn Orchid" or "Soldier's Orchid", Zeuxine strateumatica. I dug it out of the pot of yellow bells and potted it up in a little pot of it's own ... hope it survives.
Awwww, so cute!
That is a Beautiful photo, Lin
That is a beautiful photo. We have those here and they are thought of as weeds but some weeds are just so pretty. y.
I read that they can be invasive but we don't have that problem here that I'm aware of ... maybe in the southern part of the state but not here in Central Fla. I'd love to have a bed full of them!
Thanks Debra and I have your name on the velvet leaf Philo. I have a Hibiscus similar to yours. It is a favorite of mine and a reliable bloomer.
Welcome PerennialGirl, you showed some nice plants.
Rita, pretty Hibiscus blooms and I sure hope your latest Ebay purchases perk up for you. I would never get tired of viewing pictures of your Aroids and their blooms.
Thanks Debra for all those Tillandsias ideas. I bought this one for my son and I wanted to do something interesting with it before I gave it to him. BTW, I love how you have found so many clever places for your own plants. I would love to see your home in winter when everything is tucked in, nice and cosy.
Lin, those grass orchids are really tiny and they are only pretty when they bloom, then they are a weedy pest. Even when they are blooming you need a telephoto lens to appreciate them. I wonder how they would look if potted and pampered? I think I did that years ago perhaps I did not pamper them enough. LOL Do you think the bloom would be more impressive? I don't know what will come back after this horrible winter we have had but I normally toss them out by the dozens. They have no roots to speak of and would ship easily if you want some.
Good morning everyone! Debra, do you want some more spanish moss?
I probably have 1000's of those T's in my Oak Tree's from little furry ones to ones that are at least a foot plus tall/wide. I need to take some pics of them.
Warmer weather coming at least for the next 10 days or so, a little chilly at night but up to 80 here towards the middle of the week. Oh JOY !
yeah ! Larry went to Lowe's yesterday for fence nails and brought home a "rescue"
Watermelon Hoya - Dischidia ovata on the clearance rack.
My son in JAX has them all over his trees and shrubs too but he always forgets to send one to his brother who has a green thumb and always wants more plants. Obviously the JAX son takes after the DH and the TN son takes after me. LOL I actually bought that T to use as an interesting birthday gift for him.
Debra luv your Acolasia Poly's!! I've never seen them here for sale. May I ask where you bought them?
MJ please post pics of your T's. Sounds amazing to have over 1,000! I only have one....lol!
Hey All!!!
It is so nice to see everyone having a good time and a big Welcome to PerennialGirl.
plantladylin, did you remember to check your red star cordyline? I did a lot of covering up and checking heaters in preperation for the awfully cold weather ahead.
The plant is indeed a Adenium 'Blue select'. I too have a couple of leafless plants but like the Crown of Thorns some are putting out buds without any leaves while others are holding on to a little foliage.
I love your last picture, the flower seems to be smiling at me. lol
My first Ruttya plant introduced to us by ardesia
joeswife, I planted a few of the seeds you sent today, I am excited to see what will come up from the envelope marked Special. I also tried to root a few more cuttings using Kay Jones' new technique.
The plant that you inquired about is an Double Ornemantal Lily 'Distant Drum'. Your frilly Alocosia is 'Loco' Thanks for posting your Tillandsia pictures, you forgot the one with the angel. My favorite is in the white pot.
RachelLH, No pretty aroid picture today. I have a Borneo Giant all dried and resting.
GAgirl1066, I feel like I have been to a Orchid show. Your collection is quite impressive, keep showing them, we have 2 more months of winter.
mjsponies, you owe us a watermelon Hoya picture. lol I bought a new Hoya Oreogena from e-bay. I think the Hoya addiction is getting out of hand. My shooting star is covered in blooms again.
New Lowes Impatients.
Rita, I wish it had been my technique! LOL I read about it on another site - I am obsessed with trying to root the impossible, and intend to try this method on a few.
You all have absolutely RUINED my keyboard! I have slobbered and drooled on it until the keys don't want to work!!!!
I see so many plants I didn't know about, but know I should have - oh, well - time to drag out a towel and mop up!!!
Of COURSE that's exciting to us - we LOVE success stories - CONGRATS!!!!
Hi from a new member in Sarasota FL. PerennialGirl, you have a miracle baby there - figs growing in Winnipeg!
I just got amaryllis bulbs of "Bogota" on sale from that fancy nursery in Connecticut. Will send a pic when they bloom, hopefully next month.
I'd like to know which clerodendron that was a picture of in the previous thread? I have a hedge of them, with large dark green leaves, purple on the undersides. I was hoping it would bloom like that, but have never seen a blossom in 3 years. To be honest, it must be blooming behind my back because it is seeding itself occasionally. Anyway, if that lovely bloom in the picture is the same kind as mine - how the heck do I get it to bloom like that??
Thanks Kay and dyzzpyxxy!! I have three plants now. I hope I get a taste again soon....yummm.
