Tropical Garden #90

(Zone 1)

I love that Shooting Star Hydrangea! I've never been able to keep Hydrangeas alive for some reason. My dear mother in law had some really huge, beautiful plants in her Orlando yard back in the late 60's early 70's.

I'm going to Publix grocery store tomorrow and will look but I've never seen Hydrangea's at any of our Publix Markets.

Nice plant pictures everyone.

Debra, thank you and no, I've not sent you a Monstera plant yet. I always regret not adding more grow lights for my plants when I view pictures from your home. Everything is growing so well for you and I especially enjoyed the picture with the group of Alocasia plants;-) I even see one of my favorite Xanthosoma in there. I have a couple of "easy" Alocasias that I will send to you as well.

According to the news, some parts of Texas got hit with some nasty weather. I sure hope Rita is fairing OK.

Evening, once again I fell asleep.. this cold is kicking me in the rear..
I looked up the donor of the Philo and it is Michelle, I have no idea where she is these days. Pink Princess Philo is in the hot bed with some other things, so I can't show her right now. She seems to be improving, tho.

Lin, that Pandorea is BEAUTIFUL.
Mj, really?? I have that vine? YIPPEE!!
Gosh, I hope Rita hasn't hurt herself outside while it is bad out, I know I am pretty sore from shoveling, Can't imagine wrestling a hoop hoouse in a storm..
I have never seen that Shooting Star Hydrangea, but there are some monster Hydrangea shrubs around the corner on our block that seem to keep getting bigger and bigger.
Mj, that brug looks great, give it some tomatoe food and I bet it blooms for you by May...
Back to bed..

Good morning, everyone! I woke up at 4 a.m. - went to bed at 9 p.m. - what a weird schedule of sleep!

I have yet another quest: a variegated green and white Monstera! Oh, man - does it ever end?!

Have a blessed day!!!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

No Kaye it doesn't. We are supposed to go down into the 30's again next week. I'm really tired of moving plants in/out grrrr.

I worked outside all day yesterday, cleaned out the one Red Canna bed, and pulled rhizomes out of there that are almost a foot long.
Debra do you remember which Pink Brug that is? I repotted it yesterday. I think it will be happier with a bit bigger shoes, and yes I am feeding the tomato fertilizer. I'm so glad you told me about that.

Blackshear, GA

I agree, it definately does not end. Just when I think I have every plant, you guys post something that grabs my attention or I see something as I am shopping. It is definately an adiction, but one I can live with, LOL

Can't wait for days like this again...

Martha, aren't those red Cannas a menace? They spread and spread - I grub them out every time I see one. I keep about 10 growing for the hummers, but other than that, out they go! Tall purple Ruella drives me crazy, too - it intrudes EVERYWHERE! I have elephant ears coming up all over my flower beds and I just keep digging and digging - it's true - one man's dream plant is another man's nightmare!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Kay, yes, they have been in that one area for over 3 years. The hummer's love them tho, but it's time for a "tall red canna diet" LOL...I plant the Purple ruellia down at the end of the front yard where it'd kinda dry. That seems to keep it in check. I have the pink "chi chi" too, and it seems to stay in place up here by the house. I haven't grown the EE's...for some reason they have just not appealed to me.

Red Oak, TX

Good Morning Everyone, I have been a little under the weather for the last couple of days, the unusual cold tempretures have been kicking my butt. I am usually prepared for a couple of days of cold weather, but I am worn out from staying up at night monitoring my GH's.
If I ever build another GH it will be attached to my House. Going out at 2 or 3 am in the ice and cold is not for anyone my age.

Could someone please start a new thread. I do not have picture taking weather at this time, maybe next week.

I will have to get caught up on all the posts!! Keep those pictures coming, we need them to keep the winter blues away!!

I'll go take a picture and start a new thread ...

Rita,
Hope you feel better! You need to invest in a GH heater, they are about $500-600 but really worth it. Hook it up to propane and you don't have to worry about it all winter. I go out about once a week and check on the water.

I would start a new thread but I am not sure how to link it, just copy and paste?

Spring, pleeeeaaaaaassse come on, we are sick of cold weather. All my seeds are coming up and we have had 70 degree weather the last couple of days, and that is all it takes to give me spring fever. Ugh!

Here are some old photos to brighten you day! Red cestrum, LOVED it, but lost it, then replaced it, not sure where it is at the moment, but I hope it is alive!!

Re: Red cestrum - I just did a google.com search for this one - never seen it before - beautiful shrub. I will be trying to get THIS ONE, too!

Kay you are too funny!! If I can find mine, I might try to root you one.

I saw that, and thanks, but I refuse to pay $7.10 for postage for a 4" plant. I've mailed out hundreds of plants and it doesn't cost but $4.90 priority mail to send a plant of that size. I am sure I'll find it somewhere, but I appreciate you, Martha!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

I know I won't either unless I'm getting several plants and there is a good combined shipping rate.
