Betty did you find out how to load books from the library? I need to see if we can do that here.
Shirley hope Tubby is able to get blood.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Took this one at 1:30 pm. It hasn't showed signs of stopping and I just had some corn for popping. I'm glad the lights aren't down low!!!! But let it snow!!!!
I've spent the better part of the morning going through a large box full of fat quarters. LONG overdue to be done and there is still a shelf full still downstairs. I'll be sending stuff out again soon....

Police officer I believe was only 35 with a young child, veteran of 11 years who died..we sure don't give enough credit to these brave souls who fight for our freedom and those policemen/women who work on a daily basis in hard times to keep us safe!

Laura, last night I didn't do much, will try to figure out the e-book thing, librarian told me to call when I'm in front of the computer and she'll lead me through it so hopefully tonight I'll do that.

Barb, omg still going through fabric? thought you had given all but a bit away last year..can't believe your stach..guess if I went in search I'd find some as well..should go back and look at the box of matching pretties I received in the fat quarter swap and find a pattern to do something with it.

ooops one sec

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

No new car and the internet has been out at my house because my satellite dish has been covered with something white.

Lexington Park, MD

Oh someone send some of that white stuff my way please.

Verona, ON

Still snowing here - don't think as much as you Barb but the roads are treacherous if you don't drive according to the conditions of the road. There are shutting down part of the 401 here as it is just too stormy - all the plows and sanders had to stand down so you know how bad it is.It looks absolutely breathtaking here back in the bush......... picture card perfect.
Feel so badly for the young copper's wife and son...... many moons ago when DH was young he was a Metro Toronto cop for a few years. When we hear and read of a copper's death our hearts still take a min to beat again. So sad - very young to have been promoted to a Sarge, especially in the Guns and Gangs unit.
Well our trip into the dentist took 3 times as long as usual - glad we left very early. Our game plan on days like this is if we don't get held up we can get alot of our stops we have to make in Kingston done before we go the dentist. No luck this morning though. Many thanks for all of your positive thoughts re our drive.
**Dentist - SIGH* Debbie will understand what is happening in my mouth as her DD is experiencing many of the same things I am. Sure glad the Oncologist warned me this was going to happen. Root canal 21/01/11 then another 2 hour appointment 2/02/11 for something else - all radiation related. Sure am glad Doc's assistant is his wife as people might think we are having an affair I spend so much time there. This is a real kicker - I have excellent dental hygiene, no tartar build up at all but my teeth are basically rotting from the inside out.Hygenist gave me a superduper flouride treatment today - never thought I would miss Toronto water but obviously my teeth do.
Astounded at the procedure for Paul Debbie. Hope it means he is finally in his way to good vision again.
Betty you just enjoy all that pampering - boy when I taught fulltime I sure wish I could have had a Danie!
Barb do you think Norm will sell alot of snow shovels today?lol
Shirley you d
Going to try for a wee nap, see ya all later.

Betty, that incident made our news. That poor family.

Got an email from my niece this morning also. She goes to Mt. Union College in Ohio. Their Wrestling team was on way home last night on the bus....and a snow plow hit the bus with the team in it. Accident killed the Coach. She asked for prayers for the team and school and his family.

Also a young lady I watched grow up, Sharlee, lived next to my Mom. She fell several days ago...hit her head, and has since passed on. She has three little kids. She has a twin brother also. All this sadness just needs to stop.

Lexington Park, MD

Oh my gosh Debbie how sad the coach is dead and all the kids on the bus had to go through that so so sad. prayers

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy love the photo's...you just have to tell me, is this the most snow you've ever had, how come I cannot picture Arkansas having snow???

Glad you are home safely Dianne, storm must be moving north east; sitting here looking out of office window and it's blue sky, best I not brag because surely it will be my turn! They were talking on the news just the other day that it's up for discussion to take fluriode out of the water in most Ontario municipalities..sounds as that you are for it to continue..bet you are not looking forward to these appts.

OMG Debbie, we're all going to have to celebrate with you if you have a sunshine day with no tragedies in your life, how on earth do you cope..sending prayers your way.

Barb, eye measuring the depth of snow, you sure got a dropping in these few short hours..bet you'll be glad to have Norm home safely.

Laura, lol, you don't want that white stuff, honestly, best you come and visit and enjoy then leave it behind!

Shirley, sorry to hear Tubby is losing strength..drive safely and let us know how he makes out.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Beautiful photos, Crissy.....I'll share our snow, but I think Barb has more to share....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Are you getting the snow as well Joyce? Often think of your beautiful gardens..how's you mom and dad doing and you, am sure you are coping as best you can...are you able to visit with them often, they live not far from you right?

Was just thinking Joyce, Judy will have to let us know when the reunion is so that holidays can be booked otherwise others will book same date and that will leave some of us out...

On winter days can only think of spring gardening to bring a smile..last night I changed my screen saver at home to a photo of bright red roses taken in my garden! 1 1/4 hrs to go..yikes, not fast enough for me..

Should call to see in my freezer is ....

Lexington Park, MD

Winter time is the time I can stay inside and sew. When it is nice I love to be out in the sunshine playing in the dirt(mostly pots).

Victoria Harbour, ON

Your gardening Laura is it 'scape gardening'? I don't do well with pots...either I overfill them, under or over water them, not good..that being said I've a big mother geranium in the basement, have completely ignored it but it's as green as can be..

Victoria Harbour, ON

brrr.cold here but no snow..I vote to keep the cold!

Realized after I got home that I forget to get Sailor dog food and sugar, I'll all for supporting small variety stores, keeps them in town, know they charge a bit more but convenient when others are closed...have one next door so off I go, hmm dog food $9.99 small bag, asked Clara the owner because I didn't have my glasses with me how much the sticker said, yes $9.99, told her that if it was $1.00 more than reg. stores I'd go for it but was sure it was way over priced, put the bag back as well as the sugar that was $4.99..went down to the grocery store , grant it, had to start my vehicle again, only about 1 mile down the road, same dog food $5.49 and sugar $2.89...think that is a bit over the top isn't it?

Danie isn't here but her son Christian is..I get a kick out of how she will cook Chinese food at their house for supper and it's already 6pm, Christian says they don't eat until 9 or so, no wonder those kids are up all night and sleep all day...not a regular schedule for sure..

For me, it's bath time, jammies and relaxation, guess I'm old right?

Crissy hope you got home without mishap..Barb hope Norm is there resting after his working all day and Shirley, how did you and Tubby make out today?

If the weather is bad in your neck of the woods, please stay in..nothing is important enough to take the roads...

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Hi Betty and everyone,
Norm is home safe and sound - he had a really busy day selling shovels and ice melt. And then when he got home he cleaned out our drive and walkways. We do have a plow man and he came twice during the day but it snowed so heavily and the wind blew so strongly that it was all filled in again. The snow has finally stopped and we are at 19" total . Lord only knows what it would be if we didn't thave the wind blow it around....
I got a big box of fat quarters separated today and into containers where I can see them. I still have more downstairs and hope to get to them tomorrow. Yes, with all I gave away, I am still loaded. Norm says I should give lessons and make the students use up my stash...
Going to make some kind of yummy desert for Norm - he's had quite the day.
Talk later...

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Chicken stew with dumplings YUM YUM nothing like some good stew on a cold day!!!

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Hi Everybody!
Well, what a day. It started out fairly good. I took Tubby to dialysis and picked him up. We went to the Cancer clinic for chemo. While they were getting him ready he started to complain of terrible neck pain and was very cold and clamy. His heart rate was 135 and so I took him to the ER. His hemoglobin was 7.9 and some of his other labs were abnormal as well. Tubby was bound and determined that he was going home and would come in tomorrow to get blood, but then his Dr. came in the room and talked to him and he agreed to be admitted and recieve his blood tonight. They will give him 2 units of blood and recheck it after that. If it is still low they will give him some more. That Dr. is great, he has a way with Tubby that no one else does. I was really nervous for awhile. I thought for sure he was having a heart attack with the cold and clamy feeling and being in so much pain. He's got a high tolerance for pain so when he does say something it is really bad. I'm just thankful that he agreed and didn't fuss alot. He was resting comfortably when I left. I will go back early in AM. This Dr. is always there between 6:30 and 7:00. He was sure he could go home in the AM. That will make us both happy.
I was busy cleaning while he was at dialysis, so I will try to finish up most it before I go to bed. That way Tubby will have peace and quiet when he gets home. I know he doesn't like the vacum and I still have the refrigerator pulled out. Will vacum bottom out and scrub behind it and do the stove. I will get up early to finish the steps if I don't get them done tonight.
Glad everyone is home safe and sound. Have a good night and will chat with everyone tomorrow. I have a chance to catch up on everything then.
Shirley

Lyndonville, NY

Shirley, my goodness. What a day you have had.

You know, I remember when Shannons blood levels would get so low. She would be so very tired, couldn't even lift a leg to walk...and have horrible leg pain. SO I can imagine how horrible your Tubby felt!. And that blood is so needed to keep oxygen going to the body parts and organs. It sounds like he needed a "mans" opinion...being the Dr. Why do they have to be so stubborn somethings.

But, you know what, it is their way of maintaining some control over what they can. They have lost control of so much.

Lots of hugs Shirley, you get some rest while you can.

Debbie

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Shirley - so sorry to hear Tubby's having pain - good thing he listens to his Dr! Keep us updated, please. by the way - National Pie Day is NOT a Canadian thing - we borrowed it from the US! http://www.chiff.com/a/american-pie-day.htm
And the Pie Suckers are a US citizen's recipe! ^_^

Crissy - Wow - what a lot of snow!! Why no new car? can't get out to get it?

Betty - it's -21, with a windchill of -33! We're past our really snowy period (I hope) cuz we sure had our "fill" of snow!! We have a chinook coming up soon - from the 18th through to the end of January! We usually have our coldest time of the year at the beginning of January - talk about Cabin Fever!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Where is Betty this morning?
Shirley, so glad to hear the Dr. talked to him, and he agreed the treatment! You need to get your rest too, so please don't over do it!

Lexington Park, MD

coffe is on . And yes where is Betty this morning?
Shirley glad Tubby is getting the blood he needs. And hopefully you get a little rest yourself.
No snow here but cold.

Lyndonville, NY

I talked to Betty last night, was so good to hear her voice. She was doing OK....so I wonder if she ended up getting a storm and lost power. Maybe just running behind a bit.

Shirley, I said some extra prayers last night...and I hope you were able to rest. Our Tubby is being taken care of....yes I said "our"...he is such a special man, I hope you don't mind sharing. Hugs for both of you, be careful driving...the weather has just been horrible. Shane even walked to school this morning and ti is "12" out...not sure the windchilll but it can't be good.

Housse...I have the coffee on too, now just need to train that cat or dog to go get it! lol

My arms are getting sore with the crutchs and I am going without them more....Doctor said he wanted me down to one this week...and none by next weeks appt....so its OK.

Bev, how are you doing? Did you get more snow? I have had enough...bring on spring! I love looking at your photos, you have a gift.

Ok, going for the coffee....cats now even paying attention to me. Imagine that.

Debbie

Verona, ON

Thinking about graduating to a cane from the crutch Debbie? Helps greatly!
Bitter cold here - been up since 4 am ish so will definitely need a nap this afternoon.
Think I might try a Lemon Oatmeal Cake - the recipe is in the Winter LCBO magazine. I'll make cupcakes though - might be able to control DH's portions better.lol
Keep warm everyone!
Dianne

Lyndonville, NY

Nope, no cane Dianne. He wants me using the crutch on the right side...and wearing the boot. BUT i have noticed when I wear the big boot more...it affect/effects my hip. its got a good 2 to 3 inche height on in and even with my sneakers, doesn't get me lined up right and aches. SO, I have been wearing the little flat boot they originally gave me in the house....and the crutch....and try weight bearing when it is just short distances. I haven't needed any pain killers in a few days, they were really doing a number on my stomach...just tylenol or motrin.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, I is HERE! No snow, 18 degrees out there right now, sky is a dull gray but it sure is better than that white stuff you are getting!

What's it doing in your neighborhood, still snowing??? Imagine, here I am up in the northern country, land of eskimo's (not really) and it's you southerners who have the snow.

Did speak with Debbie last night, nice gabbing with her, not sure how she handles everything, omg it would be depressing city if I had it happening to me..guess you just have to pull up those big girl panties and deal with it all! Debbie you sure make what I'm dealing with seem minor....

Shirley, glad the Dr. was able to calm Tubby down and have him stay in the hospital, wouldn't hurt to keep him there another day or so..one to get everything under control and secondly to give you a bit of rest. Because of the doctors/care facilities being so close to you it wouldn't take but a few minutes for you to be by his side...know you can do it all on your own but a good night sleep without the worry won't do you any harm.

Was slow moving this morning, not being myself, have a few issues to deal with and I HATE to ruffle feathers or confront anyone, not sure that I've ever confronted anyone but I have to do something before it gets out of hand so had a restless night...geeze, did dream of someone coming into the house and stealing all the Christmas gifts, could see the tire marking in the snow where they had driven up to the door to load everything, woke up watched t.v. for a few minutes and right back into same dream...someone once told me you cannot do so but I sure manage to! Nice when you finally wake to know it's but a dream..... lol

Was busy 1st thing this morning now I'm sitting doing nothing. Meeting up with Darlene for lunch so that will be nice, talked to my brother Bernie this morning, he's going to come to my house and look at what I want done in the room that I'm changing into computer room which if I eventually work from home will have privacy..should be interesting. He says he's been looking for something to do, can't work outside because of his breathing and the cold so an inside job for a few days will be just the thing. Talk about never ending, save, do a project, save do a project..kids laugh at me, always say this is the last thing I'm doing but not

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, it is your house, and you need to do what is right for you!

Betty, I have also woke from a bad dream, only to go right back to where left off! Not a good feeling at all!

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

Betty, yes all is well, granny is good, Kenny is good has to go for his 6 month liver scan and blood work to see where his levels are so i always keep my fingers crossed on that!
have busy busy decluttering and putting my foot down on no more junk!
I'm getting area's of openness in the house and it sure feels great!
going to get another debris box and have a few more garage sales then i should be clutter free lol
best part is i don't miss a thing!!!

i have been following the thread but by the time i finish reading I'm already late for work.

welcome to all the new gals hugs and prayers to everyone
think of you all often well as usual I'm late lol

Lexington Park, MD

Betty sometimes it is best to get things of your chest not healthy to keep things in.........
Dianne lemon oatmeal cake sounds good. will you share recipe?
Debbie I had the same problem with boot being 3 inches taller on one side hurt hips and back.

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay, my fault..should have set the boundaries before she moved in..she's a very powerful young woman..fixing all the house to meet her needs, i.e. kitchen/living room, den downstairs..asked why I had 30 good wine glasses in a cupboard and didn't use them (don't drink) so why not put that cupboard to good use space wise and store them in bac shed in plastic bin..sounds as though that was better..

But when I got home last night after work her 15 year old was at the house, he's been there a few days because he's had a terrible cold, she was out shopping, they were going to her house for the evening, she asked if he was taking his belonging and he said no, he'd be staying with her, so she said, well I'm picking up the kids to home school tomorrow so you could come back with me then...

Know I've been going on about mom and now this comes up, I'm not, believe me usually so miserable, maybe it's this getting older and set in my ways...

Guess after the great experience I had with Rose and Danie's needs I didn't think it would be much different so went for it..but having on weekends 5 other people in the house and all the changes it's making me feel like a stranger in my home..know I have to adjust and that's not a problem but think we need to sit down for a gameplan without ruffling too many feathers...

Tell me what you think if I said this...be honest!

Because I tire often (and I do) I come home after a long day at work and just want to sit in my jammies and be quiet..as she home schools and for her there is no difference in weekends to weekdays that perhaps the kids could come over during the day for their visit and be gone when I get home and if she feels as though she would like them over (ONE) night that perhaps it could be during the week so that weekends I'm free to have my family/friends over and that way all are comfortable...

Will mention also that it's difficult 2 women in a house, so there may be some differences and if we discuss things it might make things go more smoothly!

You all know I'm sure I love kids but when she asked if she could rent a room till April I did not realize ALL her belonging would come with her and that she would think it was ok to have them over all the time...

Am I being unreasonable, can you think of another way to deal with it better, other than my finding accommodations somewhere else on the weekends lol - be honest now....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I would not change one word! She has to realise she is only a renter, not the manager! She should go by your hours, and rules, not what she has been doing all along!
It is nice of her to do your cooking, and cleaning, but if someone cleaned out my cupboards cause she feels it would look better with something else, then it is time to sit her down for a lesson plan!
It is your house, not hers!

Morning Liz, how are you doing! Have not seen you post in a long time!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz, how thrilling to see you post..you must have heard me tell Suzanne yesterday that come Christmas holidays I might fly the coop, told her it could be California to visit with you or Ireland to visit with my girlfriend Liz...2 Liz's..

OMG Liz, you said you were going to make a clean sweep and so you are..think we are all in a de-cluttering mood, I need to do the same..I've got 3 t.v.'s (portables) in storage, cooking things I'll never use..clothing I'll never fit in...ok challenge is on, going to follow what you are doing and see what happens...

Let's hope Kenny's results are good..he's been feeling ok hasn't he..sure did seem so when Debbie and I were visiting with you all...can you see the smile I'm wearing..what a character, between Steve and Kenny they had us in stitches..

Understand that you'll be visiting for a few weeks with Debbie this summer, that will be wonderful..don't know why you can't find a few days, jump in a vehicle and come over to see my country...who knows..your gps must be sister to mine, am sure you can find the place..

How wonderful that grannie is doing ok, how old would she be now? all the fun with family antics settling down?

Just too cool you've posted...sending you a big hug..have the photo of you, I and Judy sitting over my computer, not a day that I post do I not think of that lovely visit!!! Don't be a stranger...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just hate confronting anyone..worse enemy I'd let them walk all over me soooo it will be difficult to bring the subject up..know she was bringing the boys over today so if they are still there later (and possibly she has them for the night) I'll have to say we need to talk just so we know how to best handle all our needs. Thanks LindaKay..

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay, isn't it grand to see our Liz posting??? here Christmas is only been 3 weeks ago and I'm talking next Christmas already..did send you a package as well for the Christmas tree skirt, thought you might like to try it with that new sewing machine of yours....how's your dad doing?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Morning everyone.
I'm shoveled out in case of an emergency but that poor back deck is staying as it is for a while. It stopped snowing at 19"!!!!!.
Today I'm trying to finish the fat quarter sorting I started yesterday. When the fabrics are in two places, you don't realize how much there is I guess.
Betty, it's definitely time for a discussion. I would nicely tell her what your lifestyle is and ask her to please fit her schedule into yours. As LK said, this is your house and she should ask what your wishes are before having the children there or changing things in your home. Why was the 15 year old at your house? I didn't think kids were a part of your agreement....
If all else fails, tell her she must think of getting new arrangements because you just had word that I'm coming up there for three months!!!!

Dad is doing good! Sometimes all his meds messes with his tummy, so for the past few days he has not been feeling the best. I also need to watch the stuff he eats! He loves anything sweet/chocolate, so I try not to have too much in the house! That makes him mad! When I gave him cheese for snack, he looked at me like, What did you just give me! He loves grapes, but we all know what grapes can do to our tummy! Not good, when you can't walk fast enough to the bathroom!
So it is a constant challenge, keeping his tastebuds and tummy happy!

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Obviously I missed something very far back because I don't know why this young woman is staying with you if she has a husband and children somewhere else that she sees and is friendly with. I also don't understand if she is renting a room from you why she feels she can bring her children there almost daily to home school. If she wants to home school she can go to where they have THEIR home.
Sounds to me as if she is taking advantage of your good nature and she thinks by HELPING (food, cleaning, etc.) she can make you feel guilty about saying anything to her about her bad manners.

I once had two friends living with me in the attic of my small two bedroom house for close to five months. They liked things cleaner than I did and so we compromised by my cleaning a little more often and they lived with some of my dirt or they cleaned but were not obsessive. We learnt to be very polite to one another and give each other our space. And when any of us got too smothered we spent the day away from one another. We managed to not only get through that time but still be very good friends.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Friendships thrive on ground rules and courtesy. Without them, what is the friendship? I understand
you trying to help Danie because she is a friend but you did not agree concerning her family.. I don't understand why she doesn't get herself an apartment somewhere...She is paying rent to you so why can't she pay it there instead?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

When I have the house fulll of kids for the holidays I have to tell them we have schedules here! They like to stay up all night and sleep in in the morning, but they can't do that with Dad getting up, and needing his breathing treaments, so they go to bed at a decent hour, and then I make them get up when we do!
Just they way it has to be!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Your house - your rules. that's the way it should be....

Lexington Park, MD

Betty I think the way you phrased it is just fine.
What I do not understand is why she can not go to their home and doing the teaching.
Or if she needs to do it at YOUR HOME do it while you are at work.
I know you want to help her out but set guidelines now and do not loose any sleep or have bad dreams over this you are not comfortable with this so make it right.
Did I hear road trip??????
