Victoria Harbour, ON

hmmm LindaKay must have something to do with not being able to download whatever was on that disk but didn't do it at the office? jpeg, now how in the world will I find that out? lol so computer illiterate~

Well, thought I'd try again and there it is...

Laura, that's one of them

Here's the other, might make this one for me...

Laura, doesn't seem overly difficult, especially when you break the project down into sections like this

Here it is in blue

Betty I really like the second one.And I think you are right when you break it down looks easy.

Victoria Harbour, ON

If you want I can write out instructions and you could go by photo Laura?

Shirley, after you said your mom was doing Cathedral I looked for my package of goodies..several patterns in the booklet but disappointed..takes a 8 1/2 inch circle and my accuquilt only cuts 5 1/2"..could make a smaller one I guess, might be something I could do at work, mark fabric and cut out circles..lol

Bev, this one is for you...dragonflies
Got this old antique frame from Cathy and her mom for Christmas..can't wait to hang on back deck...Danie and Darlene gave me about 3 or 4 which are slightly bigger so think one day I'll bring them in and work on them..make great gifts!

Left home, was snowing heavily, in fact Darlene called to ask how I had made it into work..snow stopped about 1/2 mile from my house..left 1/2 hr. early because of a boo/boo I had made..

On Tuesday I went to the company that Greg had purchased blackberry telephone hand free units, works through the radio somehow, he had just paid $129.99 for his two months ago and then came across this company that sold them for $9.99, wasn't sure why, but Christmas Eve he and Jeff just went on and on about them...when I was looking at it yesterday I thought shucks don't have a blackberry so when Paul saw it he wanted it..when Greg came last night to do the work on outside vent of heating system I told him I sold it to Paul, on and on he went, said that regardless if I had a telephone that I could use, every time Jeff upgrades I get his phone so I should have just set it aside, then he checks my home and voila, do have the system to syncronize (?) so this morning off I went and purchased another, then they had micro speakers for the computer, bought a set and they have great laptops that have all been refurbished and have a guarantee for $99.99..no can buy one this week because of the freezer but think I'll pick one up, that way I'll have access when travelling..sounds like a plan!

Good Morning to All!
Betty - When I talk to my Mom next I'll ask her if she has a pattern. If so I'll copy it and send it to you. I think the quilt blocks that she uses to make the windows are square and I know you fold the fabric different to make the windows. It's hard to explain. I'll ask my sis to bring it with her so I can take a pic. of it. I just know it is beautiful. I prefer the ones that are totally hand done as to the machine. I know they are beautiful, it's the thought that someone took the extra time and effort to do it all by hand. I'm crazy.
The wind is blowing now. We are to get snow Sunday, Monday and Tues. Hope they are wrong. Just nice to know we don't have to go any place till Monday. I will have to stop and get Tubby cleaned up for the Dr.'s appt. Will do chores when I get home so I don't have to go out in it this weekend. I have to pick up some grain and two heaters for the pond. The ones I had both quit working at the same time, what's the odds of that happening.
The Christmas skirts are beautiful. I bet a person could go online and find lots of patterns. Just a thought. Chat later.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Be careful driving Shirley, Tubby feeling any better this morning? So you keep your pond heated for the fishies?

As for the pattern and plastic cut outs I posted, same as your mom's Cathedral..they start with circle, square added and the edges folded over..those templates make life a lot easier.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

http://www.sewing.com/projects/uploads/cathedral_window_quilt.pdf

Here is one version, and it is all squares!

Victoria Harbour, ON

That's interesting LindaKay, the little quilt shop down the road do placemats in similar fashion, they have an open house concept for sewing on Saturday mornings, always say I'll go but then don't..looks a bit tedious doesn't it, am sure once you get on to it it's quick! great way of using odds and ends of fabric

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, was it you who said you were reading Debbie Macombe..drats, read the book and it stopped mid stream, keyed on the computer and apparently she almost writes books monthly..no answers to any of the storylines...not good

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, maybe your batteries need recharged. Mine does that when the batteries get low. Yes, I do read Debbie Macombre. What book are you reading?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie was because I was on large font...

book is 1022 Evergreen Place, sooo left me hanging, doubt I'll ever pick up her books..you have to have patience

Lexington Park, MD

Busy day oldest DD turning 21. Picnic at kids school. Making a cake . And trying to find time to sew. Maybe I need to give up on sleep and sew then????

Victoria Harbour, ON

LOL some days are like that Laura...21 wow, congratulate her for us..big difference in the ages of your children. Makes life interesting..

Although I don't live in Barrie I can join their library $75.00 per year but would have access to downloading e-library books so big savings there. I've a library card from my home town, small little library, no available access for e-books.

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Betty I would also love to do that second tree skirt with the trees on it, do you have a scanner?? that you could copy the pages with??? or copy machine and snail mail??? I would gladly pay the copy cost and mailing fees.....first one is lovely also.....butttttt I love those trees on the second one

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'll take the book into town with me and photo copy and send you the pattern, no $$$ necessary, bartered for the oranges and grapefruit lol which I'm eating, brought 2 into work this morning..yummy!

You are home now?

Victoria Harbour, ON

..Home, ready for hot bath, jammies and another relaxing evening on the chesterfield..talk about being lazy! 2 entrances into town have been closed due to a bad accident, of course had to call all my family to make sure all of them are safe either at home or at work..all are so no worries..

From sunshine when I left work to terrible road conditions near home..isn't winter wonderful

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Yes I am home now. very glad you got some fruit, and that you are enjoying it.. (picture you posted looks like you are next to tangerine tree. my favorite. trip was great, we were very lucky, and had no traffic issues going or coming home....my boys, came home the day we were going up there, and they had a traffic jam that took them 1 1/2 hours to go 30 miles!!!

we got about 10 inches of snow at sons house the day after Christmas, hubby was thrilled!!! the baby was not sure if she liked it or not.....although she did enjoy sucking on snowballs!!! I have to download pictures, will post a few when I get that done...Son will be away at least 12 months, possibly 14...thank goodness for my friends on line, and sewing to keep me busy..

have to go back to work tomorrow, YUCK !!
time off with family has been very enjoyable not at all looking forward to getting back..but I am very thankful that I do have a job. I have to work 4 days of night shift, then it looks like my schedule will be going back to day time hours !!!! so that will be a very big plus. ^_^ just can't help but wonder how long it will last??? sure will be nice to have some family dinners again!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad you enjoyed your vacation Thunder, nothing like spending time with family...can't imagine how worried you must be but we'll be praying that time will go quickly and the Lord will watch over him and the other troops!

For some reason I thought you enjoyed working the late shift..was saying after I got back about the flea markets in part of Florida I was in having no vendors open, 1/2 stalls empty and the other 1/2 not coming out because they are so hard hit by the economy...let's hope 2011 brings many changes..Judy/Joyce and others are looking for employment.

Depending on the weather Thunder I'll get the patterns out to you either tomorrow or Monday..already put the books in my car as not to forget..
did that while out shovelling snow..still have front walkway and deck to do, not that big of a deal seeing as my plowman has been here but don't want to leave it not done and it become 3' deep..should take out my snowblower but as long as I don't go all h(*l bent for election at once I don't overdo and enjoy it.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Hello!
We are home and Tubby is all tucked into bed for a nap. The ramp is covered and the chores done. The extension cord went bad on the heaters after I bought two new ones. I will keep them anyway. I'll invest in some new extension cords next time I go to town. I'll keep these and replace the ends, if that works then I don't have to buy any. I'm thinking of baking some pork chops and maybe some mac & cheese. I think maybe I'll make some sticky rolls and freeze them for when the kids come home. I think I'll make them out of yellow cake mix.
It is getting colder out and the north wind is blowing harder. There were a few flurries earlier, but don't see any around now. I have a bunch of rocks I brought home from Wis. a while back to paint. They are all out on the porch, so will bring them in before it does snow. I will clean them up and work on them. I may get a couple of them done before the kids come home. DD wants labs painted on some as they raise labs. I'd like to paint a horse on one for the youngest GD as she is the horse person. I have to put primer on them first and will seal when I get done so the paint last.
I'm gonna go hang a few pictures and finish cleaning downstairs. Will chat with you all later.
Shirley

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sounds like home is the place to be Shirley. My goodness, but you are so like Betty. Here's something that needs doing so best get it done. Both of you amaze me.
How is dialysis going? Any more talk of a fistula? I had to Google that to find out what it was. Sounds pretty intimidating to me. I'd be scared.
Betty I think you really like your e-reader. Norm got me one for Christmas but he doesn't like it. He gave it to Brandon (oldest GS) and ordered me a Nook from Barnes^Noble. It hasn't arrived yet but I'm sure I'm going to like it.
Waving a quick hello to all~~~~~hope things are fine for you. Keeping you all in my prayers.

Lexington Park, MD

Yes Betty there is a large gap between children. Stuff happens that is not in your control sometimes.......
How much snow do you have?We have none.
If it is not a problem will take copy of tree skirt with trees on it.The second one. And no hurry we have 12 months.
Shirley so glad you both are in and warm. So you paint rocks. Pictures please if you have any.
Still battling head cold.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Barb - We seen his reg. Dr. first this morning and he doesn't want Tubby to have the fistula done. He is afraid that it may not heal and having to get poked with two needles and then getting to stop bleeding was not in his favor. His INR was high today 7.9, that means his blood is way to thin and so he won't get any Coumadin for 3 days and then only twice a week. We will go back in 3 wks. and get rechecked. I told him that they talked to us about a feeding tube again and he asked Tubby what he thought, he said no. The Dr. agreed and said it was just another place to get an infection from. He said that now that he is back on chemo it will change what we will do in the future. It especially will affect healing. Oh well, just a day at a time. Thanks for asking. Chat later.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Shirley please let Tubby know we think of him every day and send prayers for his comfort. I have a horse person too here - my oldest grandson. He has the passion....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Waving but will gab in the morning, because of accident power keeps coming off/on..one poor person died in the crash, road still closed so guess they are doing work..bit on cool side so going to put extra blankets on bed just incase the hydro goes out again!

Prayers for all in need...

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Shirley - glad to see you posting - I say prayers for you both.
Betty - nasty accident!!!! Hope you keep warm when the power's out!
Gotta go get supper - chat atcha another time!!

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

thanks much Betty, knowing he is in the thoughts and prayers of so many helps me a lot
don't like late shift as I don't get to have family meals, and don't get to see one of my boys very much, as far as the actual "work" goes the late shift is a little easier in some ways...but I really miss the family time..
Hope you are staying warm enough, and power is fixed fast so no one gets cold...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, sitting here with coffee in hand but must get a move on, Darlene is an early riser as well and we made plans for take a few hours this morning to make jewelery..reason I had asked you all if you wore glasses and favorite color was because I wear a glass holder around my neck and thought it would be nice to send you all one sooo that's this morning's project, if I make all I need with pendants for those who don't wear glasses then I can spend the weekend firing..

Still don't know if it was a local who lost their life, always worried it could be someone from town or nearby town that we would know, what a call to get or a knock at the door...drats tummy is turning just thinking of it!

Danie got here shortly after 7 last night, wow talk about bags/boxes she brought along with her so have to find a place for her to store them, another chore for today..

Think the local grocery store opens at 8am, want to go get fixings for 'stew' nothing like a hot stew on a cold day. Noticed my kitties haven't been eating as much as normal, checked the bag the girls bought while I was away and realized it had seafood in it, both no like, so must pick some food and treats for them..

Susan are you feeling any better, know you went back to work but knowing you you were still ill..maybe you and hubby are passing it back and forth to each other. With 2 days off you can both rest...ahhh no rest, you have all those church flyers to get out..did they take more ink and did you get them done on time? Know you did!!! lol

Thunder, even on regular work day shifts it's hard enough to get an entire family together let alone evening and midnight shifts but as you say hard to find jobs at the moment so you got to do what you got to do.
Just loved your yard, can imagine it when all is in bloom..do orange trees bloom? Will you get to talk or text or e-mail your son or is that a no-no?

Worried about Bev, usually she drops in with a post or a photo and we've not heard from her lately...Bev, let us know how you are doing please...

Meant to add earlier but with all my running off to Florida forgot to say a special 'hi' to our Liz who dropped in to wish us a Merry Christmas...Merry Christmas Liz, miss you whole bunch!' Hope all is well with you and Kenny and the family..how's 'grannie'?

Shirley that wasn't the best news you could hear, glad though Tubby won't have to go through those proceedures, am sure he'd hate it and as the doctor says possibility of more infections..not good! Thank goodness you have nursing experience, I'd not know what to do, when to do it if I were in charge of looking after someone ailing, guess you learn it though..didn't know you paint Shirley, you must show us some of your finished rocks..that will give you hours of down time as you get lost in the creativity..I also paint rocks but eons ago I taught a class that you virtually take the backing off a regular photo through a process, add it to a rock, varnish several coats and you'd swear you hand painted it, was loads of fun..

Laura, you were in the Christmas block swap were you not, maybe you could use up the blocks to make the Christmas tree skirt, think I will try it out..going to try and get colored prints done today, you should get them by end of week...as for kids, lordy, had they not had to take abort the girl baby I had, would have had 3 in 2 years..both my boys are born in 1969..got to tell you that wasn't the thing to do, thought they'd be best of friends NOT, too much togetherness..since their dad passed on they have become close, in contact with each other daily, I'm thrilled with that.

Barb, love my sony reader..this afternoon I'll try and see how to download library e-books..didn't make it to Barrie library yesterday but Danie said she had a card to we'll see if I can do it..bet you are anxious to get your new reader..there goes the sewing though, hard to do both! lol

Best I go get dressed, been chatty, don't want anyone to find my in my nightie (as they they haven't hundreds of times before)......

Hope you all enjoy your day!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm still in my PJs this morning too. Had a fun day out with Norm yesterday - just food shopping and such but he took me to breakfast which we hadn't done in years!!! It was a treat to us for surviving the holidays.
Today I need to finish straightening up the house. Most of the cleaning is done, laundry is done for this week and just pick up and put away stuff now. Should only take a few minutes. Then it's off to the sewing room to work on the blocks. Also I want to work on a mystery quilt project that I started a t the local quilt shop way back in Oct. Took the day class on it where we made about 20% of the quilt and we were to finish it at home. Well, along came Christmas and those kitty quilts etc so it got put on the back burner. I can't teven show a picture until its done because I don't know what it is going to look like!!!! That's the mystery....

Lexington Park, MD

I am still in my PJs also. In sewing room making a log cabin quilt and looking at it coming together and one of the blocks is in but turned wrong way. Yes took it apart and now putting together again. We got a little snow but is really cold. Soccer today so will be back and forth. Coffee is on .
Betty sounds like you have a busy day ahead also.
Shirley did you get much snow or just really windy there?
Good day to all.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Betty - You are so busy. The process you talked about on rocks sounds interesting. Is it kinda of like decoupage? I'll have to see if I can find anything online about it. Either you have a big house or are a good packer to keep packing all that Darlene has brought with her. Most women are good at packing and amazing what they can get in a small space. Tubby was excellent at it. He is still sleeping, he has slept all night. He seems more tired then usual. Will just have to watch. I'm not a nurse, but there are days when I think I should have the initials RN behind it. Especially when I run into a nurse that doesn't have any common sense and is really stupid. I don't know how they made it though school and passed their boards. I find dumb Dr.s also. I just tell the head nurse that I don't want them again. I've learnt to be very outspoken on that. If I don't stand up for him no one else will. I always admired his own Dr. for his honesty and he's not afraid to say when it is beyond his realm of knowledge and needs to go someplace else. He has always had a way with Tubby that he listens to him and talks honestly without being mean. I like all his partners except the oldest one. I knew him when he first started and didn't care for him then. I was only like 16, he hasn't got any better in my book. Thankfully we haven't had to have him but once while in the hospital. His wife is also a Dr. and I don't care for her either. I did find out that I can go through training and so Tubby's dialysis at home. I'm still keeping that in the back of my mine if it gets to diffucult to get him in and out of the house.
It is cold and calm outside right now. I just let the dogs in a few minutes ago and now they want back in cause one of them took off barking so they all had to follow. They got themselves out they can get themselves back in thorough the doggie door. Got to love them, NOT! One thing is no one gets out of the car that doesn't know them. The black Ger. shepard mix gets his hair to stand up and never quits barking. We don't lock our doors as they are all glass. Tubby always said why lock them and have the glass broken, the ins. com. will still cover it. We use to have a Dalmation who scared everyone. Even the Sheriff's officer stayed in his car one time till we came to door. His name was Spooker and it fit him to a tee. There were times he would bark at us till the light bulb came on upstairs. He was too funny.
Okay, I've rattled on enough about nothing. Will check in with you all later. I'm gonna get my sec. cup of coffee and then get dressed. That will either entice me to get started on something or wear me out that I think I should rest some more. LOL!
Have a good day everyone!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Shirley, please be careful about putting ew plus on the extention cords for your heaters! they tell you not to use extention cords for them! I always worry about them!
I took out new GMC Acadia to the dealwership yesterday, as we had a nail in the tire, and it has a slow leak! I told the lady in the service dept, and she told me to go out and have a seat, it would be about 30 minutes to fix it! Well, an hour later, she brings the vehicle out front, and told me there was no nail, the tire was over inflated!
I told her it was soft, and the dashboard computer message told me it was soft! She again told me NO it is not soft, take it home! Well, I was not happy, and as I was trying to get Dad in the car, he stopped and showed me the nail in the tire! I left Dad and walked inside and demanded to see the service department manager. When he came outside, I showed him the nail, and told him what just happened! He then went and got the girl, and.. well, lets just say he was not nice to her! He took my vechicle back to the service dept, and fixed my tire! 2 hours later I finally got my car back! Needles to say I was not a happy camper!

Shirley, you should join us in the painted rock swap! Please share with us what your doing? I would love to see them!
