Thought with Christmas day upon us I've move us over to a new room...
We came from here:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1145313/
Best/Worse/What did I learn today-visit/chat with friends..
When does your Christmas start LindaKay and Barb, do you have company coming today as well!
Not sure what time everyone went to bed last night, only one awake and said 'thanks for waking me up' was Jeff...couldn't find my wallet and needed to go get the turkey..needed to borrow $$$, told him $60. should do it, after all it was only a turkey I had to pick up..so off I went..oh/oh $82 and change, have to bring him in money on my way to town..thank goodness for Jeff being here..poor Jeff, everytime he tries to go back to sleep I start gabbing..lol
Was going to go into the bank and get a new interac card so I could have $$$ but prayed to St. Anthony and where was my change purse/interact card, where is should not have been, in the Christmas card holder box..St. Anthony led me right to it..
Here's my deboned turkey, this year I asked that he leave the thighs...
Thanks for the new room Betty!
Shirley and Tubby, sure hope your doing OK today?
Anyone heard from Crissy? She sure is being quiet?
Here's a better view..yummy/yummy in the tummy!!!
As I was wrapping this turkey I was thinking to myself, between meatpies/25lb. turkey and large spiral ham I'd have enough for you all to have Christmas dinner with me... boo hoo..only Betty would take photo's of a turkey..lol
Lot of the gals meet once a year, in 2012 it's at my place so save your pennies because I'll theme it Christmas and even decorate for you all..we'll have Christmas in June/July
Shirley/Tubby, Bev/Scotty hope today is a pain free day and for the rest of you all may you have a sunshine day!
Off to see 'seniors' yikes I am a senior, hope they don't keep me
$82.00 for someone else to cook your turkey? I think I am in the wrong business!
Our Christmas will be tomorrow early afternoon, when all the kids get here! My oldest will be here tonight, and then Andy and his family will be here about 2 or so Saturday.
She has LindaKay, know she was extremely busy at work..think she was staying home for Christmas though wasn't she..we'll have to put out an all points bulletin to see where some of our friends are??
No LindaKay they did not cook it, only thing they did was de-bone it so there is no carcus to worry about..easier to carve with electric knife...cooking is up to me AND they didn't charge me for the de-boning...hopefully there will be lots left over and it will be t.v. dinner time in my house for the next few weeks..
That's nice that you will have family with you Christmas Eve and the rest of them tomorrow..
Talk about a cyclone in this house..that's the hard part for me..usually everything in it's place so I have to close my eyes and say it's only for a few days.
Guess I'd best be getting what I'm taking to the Seniors home in my car and head out before the masses...
Betty that is a lot of money for a turkey! Are they always that much?
Please drive careful today!
Into town and already back home, now it's slippers on, play with the grandchildren and wait for the rest of the gang to arrive.
The Nursing Home Co-ordinator Joanne wanted to take a photo for their bulletin, said nope, asked me my name, told them it wasn't something they needed to know..just wanted to make someone's Christmas special..did though put a name on one afghan bag, Roger's Aunt Helen has alzheimers and is on a lockdown ward so asked that they give it to her!
LindaKay, I did think it was a little on the expensive size however, it is a BIG turkey!!! oh well, couldn't very well complain once they had put my dressing in it and de-boned..
I'm having my DS & DIL for dinner tonight and cooking a prime rib roast. Never done one before but I saw a small one at the store and couldn't resist. I got directions on-line on how to cook and will follow them down the line.
I remember when my kids were little and we had just moved away from family. We drove from Detroit, MI. to Florida for Christmas and then up through St. Louis, Mo for New Year's, all in a car the size of a VW Bug. I told my husband when we got home "NO more". We have Christmas for our kids in our own home with our own traditions and we did. Grandparents welcome to visit, but not traveling at Christmas.
So now my family gets together at Thanksgiving, we make that our big family get-together and they all have Christmas with their kids. This year Chris & Stacey will enjoy that new boy of theirs, my oldest and his family will probably go skiing, and the middle boy is the one coming to my place Christmas Eve. I will go to their house on Christmas Day and have dinner with them and DIL's family as she is hosting this year.
I sometimes miss seeing the little ones open presents but next year Jonathan will be 18 months and he will really enjoy the tree and presents so I will make it a point to be there then.
How wonderful to "see" you Crissy. We have been concerned as we look forward to your posts. So glad to hear nothing is wrong.
Didn't you have any heat in your room? Wow, that's a nice heater!!!!
Wishing you and Dave a wonderful Christmas.....
Janice, enjoy your prime rib..I've tried cooking same quite often but always overdo..I'm sure you'll do fine, my excuse NOT A COOK!
Jonathan will be so much fun next year, perhaps you'll be able to make the trip and enjoy..my grandchildren get the stars and the moon but it's nothing like when they were younger and you'd see cars/trucks/games/building blocks, ahhh those were the days!
Crissy, glad you've got heat, how cold is it in your neck of the woods...what's keeping you so busy, work? drats tell them you need at least 1/2 hr. a day to keep up on your threads..housewives have their soaps and workers should have their threads..
Quite nice doing Christmas the day before, I've had company dropping in one after another..got to figure out how to do this gift thing, seems whoever comes, their gift is at the back of the tree and all has to come out..just looked at the tree..omg should almost be empty by now but nope, they take their gifts and bring about the same amount.
My brother Bernie just dropped in, he'll be here for supper but he bought me one of those warmer units to keep food warm, thought that I might use it to set up dinner..love these things but lordy, where do you put such large object after you use them..need a room just for cooking things.
Braedon and Caleb sat with me while Jeff went shopping and made jewelery for their mom and grandmother for Christmas gifts..I'm firing them now; sure hope they turn out...Braedon is a teen and well, you know boys, not much into crafting, young Caleb was more enthusiastic and ended up making an extra piece..conned them, told them the best gifts I'd ever receive each Christmas was those made by my children who made the items out of love...they jumped at that idea..lol
Well, best I go do fruit/veggie/meat and cheese trays then take a bath and just sit and relax...why???? because Santa is coming to town!!! and he knows if I've been good or bad soooo bit nervous on that one..
Barb my computer room is a normal bedroom attached to the house, but for some reason it gets colder than any other part of the house in the winter and hotter than any other part of the house in the summer. This house was built Feb 2007, I'm wondering if they forgot to insulate it LOL
You are so right Betty! LOL in a perfect world!
I'm gonna go make Christmas cookies. Today it's 43* with a low of 33*. It's raining right now.
Hello To All !
Thank you Crissy for catching up with us...I have been worried about you as well....
Well - the teenagers are all nestled all snug in their beds....
I have cooked from morning till night. Christmas Sugar Cookies, Gingerbread Cookies, Cheese Balls, Spinach Madeline (x2), Cheese and Meat Fondue with homemade sauces, Veggie tray/dip.... what am I forgetting ?
I found a new "8 layer Greek" dip that I will try when sis comes to town Sunday... my niece LOVES kalamata olives....
Dragon - I have tried to cook ( about 3 times) my Mom's old roast recipe. Mom always said get a "Rolled Rib Roast wrapped with fat and tied with string" plug with garlic and worchestershire..... I think I'll cook it about 3 hours. I found a Prime rib roast....hope it is the same thing....it has fat and string. we shall see....
At this holiday time I would like to Thank you all for being my friend. I feel welcome and safe here.... You are all a warm blanket wrapping round my shoulders on a cold day.... you are all the sunshine on my face on the good days....
Thank you all. Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Night !
((HUGS))
Mary

Stacey
Morning Tink!
Merry Christmas to all of you!
Merry Christmas everyone, I'm so excited that you will all enjoy the very best of Christmas's today..omg so much food and talk about variety; wish after my family leave this morning that I could jump in my car and go visit each of you, let me see Christmas would all but be over at Janice/Laura/Barb/Stacey, might have made Debbie's and Dianne's, the rest of you, sorry can't get a sea on the big airplane, boo hoo so I'll just dream that one day, somehow we can sing Christmas Carols together...
Stacey Bubbie is just too adorable dressed in his Christmas garb. Well, did you get to play with your sewing machine, lol? I can see you while getting breakfast/lunch together finding time to sew.
LindaKay you are up early as well; would imagine the rest of the household is sleeping though..make noise, wake them up, say Santa did arrive...
Dianne, it's more than bitter cold here today but thank the Lord no snowstorms to content with, bbbbr is all I can say!
Those of you already up, have you opened your gifts..want to see LindaKay if you got your dremel accessories???
Mary, what a lovely post..think you put into words what many of us cannot..
Crissy same for you sweetie..
New Years now is around the corner, many of you know that I sit New Years Eve and set goals, mostly they are what projects I'd like to see done in the house for the year and then several personal ones..am hoping this year, now that I have my little travel trailer to pack up some long weekends, take a few extra days and go visit some of you...
Yesterday was amazing, had the entire family by my side, laughing, enjoying, remembering ! Got to tell you, I hope those young ones realize just how lucky they are, from ipad's to snowboarding equipment, to laptop to canoe paddles especially made for them re height and weight to skidoo helmets, heated clothing..omg lucky lucky, blessed for sure...
I though didn't get spoilt, kind of disappointing...ok I lie...lol
Had already received the computer monitor, set of trio hand phones, cooking warmer, gift card saying that workers would arrive at my door this week to make a landing and staircase from back door entrance..then last night
Got my e-book reader, case and light that it fits in and a generous on-line e-book gift card so I can buy some books, nightie, sweater, money to cover 1/2 my tires, gift certificate for Huronia Stained glass store, $200 spending money to treat myself..and still have more to come..
Not sure what my day will bring, boys will leave about 11am, clean up time for sure is needed, am invited to 3 places for din/din but just not sure I might not like to sit and relax..
Do have to take a run down to Cathy's though and deliver their gifts, maybe a quick drop into Ann's and see her family..
Drop in here and see if any of my dg friends have posted on how their day is progressing and that ought to have filled in the day...
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL~
Merry Christmas my friends. I've been so wrapped up with learning about my new camera that I'm just now getting to the computer. Santa was wonderful to me and I hope he was to you too. I must leave to get dressed to go back to Stacy's for Christmas again and dinner. I'll be back tonight but wanted to pause long enough to wish you all a wonderful day....MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!
Very well said Mary, I love every one of you on here and I am SO glad we have all found each other! After January it will calm down at work and I will be able to come on more. Maybe mid January, I don't know, depends on how things go, you know when your dealing with other people and everyone likes to wait til the last minute to do anything, so we'll see.
OK! I goofed somewhere!! When I send presents to my mom and her husband, and my dad and his girlfriend, I wrap each one then put both of them in a box and ship them, that way they can open the shipping box and have presents under the tree. I don't know what I did but I'll find out hopefully Monday. My dad's girlfriend called yesterday and said that they got the box but my dad's gift was the only present in it. I said WHA????? so I called my mom and asked her if she received her box yet, she hadn't and asked why. LOL I told her that I think I put dad's girlfriend's present in their box. We had a good laugh over that one!
OMG Crissy, lol, that's enough to cause a major uproar..lol..maybe next time fill one box, have it go to on house, let them pick and send it off to the next!!! hope they got equal gifts or you'll be in big do/do...
Barb, enjoy that camera and take loads of photo's..
Janice, you sure did make Stacey's Christmas, shucks by supper time she'll have a rag quilt made..
Speaking of rag quilts, a young girl was here for supper, felt so bad about no gifts under the tree for her (did send her one earlier in the day) their family is doing poorly this year so there will be little under the tree..her dad watching everyone open rag quilts said how she's always cold so with a box of blocks sitting in a corner I asked if she'd like me to make her one..this week I'll play with them and see what I can come up with the colors I have...know it would make her happy!!!
Then this morning while getting Jeff's and the boys gifts upstairs to take home I found 3 boxes for me under the tree..one was a beautiful basket locally made and in it was 2 boxes of garden starters, tulips and hyacinths I think they were...last year she gave me an amarylis and it was absolutely gorgeous, then I got dish towerls made by Rita and a Heart and Stroke Calendar which has draws daily throughout the year, wow, loved that one and the 3rd totally blew me away, it was a gift send on my behalf for 'sleeping children' it will purchase a tent, a mattress of sorts, blanket and pillow..I'm thrilled with my 'goat', Heart & Stroke Foundation and sleeping children foundation.. gifts being sent in my name to other countries in hopes of helping them have a better life and helping the cure of ailments much felt in our own country..
Lord has truly blessed me...
Taking a break, upstairs all cleaning, soon time to get dressed and do something Christmas''''eeeee!
Just emptied my camera so I can take more photo's today so thought while I have a break I'd share some...
My first stop was to Georgian Manner home to deliver all the afghans and shawl wraps I had made through the year for the seniors who had no family, was a quick in and out, thought, drats should have taken photo's of them accepting it but didn't want to make a big deal out of it!!!
Gift opening time..
Was funny, Jeff had his gift card for $1.38 and Greg to make things exactly the same in value for Christmas was a difference of .11 cents due to difficulties I had getting such a card..all laughed, boys said it wasn't the monetary value it was how many boxes each got to open...now they tell me...lol

Now before they leave it's finishing off the jewelery they made for their grandma and mom...all ready to wrap..
This grandma's thrill is seeing how excited they are to have created such works of art..Jeff teased them and said he'd put photo's on facebook showing their friends that they make jewelery..slapped his hand for that one..
This was grandma's time to play with her boys!
Break is over, sure hoping I get to see some of your Christmas.....
Hope by now you've all opened your gifts and are thrilled with them..
Merry Christmas everyone! Hope your day has been wonderful!
I've been reading, haven't had much oomph to join in....had a wonderful day with the family here today... Kind of bittersweet thinking it may be the last one with my mom.....we got lots of pictures though.
Love you all!
LOL Betty, thank goodness it won't be that big a deal, my mom will just mail my dad's girlfriends to her. The four of them talk about once a week anyway. It is funny though, all 5 of us have had a good laugh over that one.
It's just me and Dave here at the house and I got 1 picture, of Dave opening his present from me. He won't take pics for some reason or other.
ohhh Crissy, is it a flat screen t.v.??? bit tired so not seeing straight..think the man got spoilt! And you, what did santa bring you and did you enjoy your day?
Joyce, just know how difficult this Christmas has been for you but we gals here on DG have seen many miracles happen, perhaps there is one for your mom! We'll be praying and holding your hand along the way.
Been visiting all day, supper at my SIL Suzanne's, was tired so left before most. MIL wanted to go as well, it meant a 10 minute further than my house, don't think she wanted a ride from me but one can't have everything can they, so we gabbed a bit..what can I say, do make every effort with her..often say 'this ones for you Roger' lol
So bed time it is...
Sure hope you've all had a spectacular day..I'm hoping tomorrow I can read all about it and see some photo's..until then, night/night
Betty-I barely got the machine out of the box!!LOL By the time Chris got up, spent about an hour waking up, then opening presents, dealing with Bubbie, finding a spot on the counter for my new toastation from my mom (toaster oven with a wide slot toaster in the top), preparing (well I helped a little) & eating dinner, watching a movie, it was time for bed. I sacrificed playing with mine so Chris could play with his new toy for a while. Now this am I will read the manual before I start playing;)
I entered Jonathan in a cute baby contest-please vote for our adorable little elf;)

Morning all, brrrr cold out, few flakes of snow but doesn't matter because I don't have to go anywhere, planning to stay in my nightgown all day..
House is all back in order, feel like a lost soul walking from room to room trying to figure out what mischief I can get into while trying to stay quiet. Dannie came home last night around 11 and one of her sons came with her..all sleeping so I'll confine myself to the bottom floor.
Yesterday I had stopped off at Cathy's to drop of gifts for her and her mom, they are always so very kind in dropping in during the day to let Sailor out..dropped off 3 and came home wih 2..so just before bed I sat and opened them, a nice pair of homemade slippers which I needed badly and a beautiful antique window frame with the glass inserts decorated with I believe dragonflies..will hang it in the spring on the back deck. In the fall Dannie/Darlene had many of these windows and I think I got 4 or 5 of them...I'll have to do same with them and share them with friends. Great idea!
Stacey, went to vote, followed their instructions but it says I cannot vote from my country! drats that's not good. I'm sure in the next few days you'll get to enjoy your machine; can't wait to see what you create.
Quiet this morning, all must be sleeping in, Christmas has a way of tiring us out..all that prep and now it's behind us we can rest...many of you have company today, friends/family, do enjoy your day..
Off to see how I can entertain myself!
Hello All - I was looking at the different forums on Dave's earlier and saw the name of Bettypauze. I just had to stop by and say hello and give some wishes for a great new year coming up. Betty, I see from the Christmas pics you took that you are still the very spry and ageless wonder that puts me to shame in terms of activity level. What a bundle of energy wrapped in that tiny body of yours.
What fun it looks like your family had. I am especially impressed with the really very lovely jewelry that your grand sons made. I am now grandma to two adorable little ones. We had lots of fun here with three year old Emily doing most of the unwrapping of gifts. Eight month old Isaac didn't open gifts but his eyes sparkled with the excitement he sensed in the air. I really hate to admit that for some years before these two little ones came along, I had grown to resent the holidays and all the commotion involved. I am now looking forward to celebrating any occasion where the emphasis is on the little ones. It takes me back to the awesome wonder of my childhood and the wonderful spirit of it all.
Anyway Ms. Betty, l think of you often and regard you as a special friend. Here is wishing you and yours a wonderful new year full of all that you can hope for.
Ruby
