It should work.Wasnt the Jester an entertainer?

East Bridgewater, MA

Yep, he was the only person in the king's court allowed to make fun of the "Establishment."

Everyone else was beheaded!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Just as I thought.
I just finished watching "The Pillars of the Earth"
Its a Ken Follet novel brought to screen.
Takes place in 12th century England. Thats where historical accuracy leaves off.
The story is pretty good but I confess to fast forwarding in a few places.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

saw that when it came out - hard to live up to the book.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I guessed as much.
I felt yanked around and intelligence insulted at times.I fast forward its the best revenge.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have just watched the second disc of season 1. Modern Family.
I simply dont know what all the hoopla is about.
Maybe I am too old and cynical but I rate any show a 2 star when I can get up ,leave the room without feeling compelled to hit the pause button.
This does not rock my world.Humorous Yes but doesnt throw me into convulsions.

The announcer from The Lone Ranger (and Dick Cavett Show), Fred Foy, died. He was 89, so he was asking for it.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Yeah, he was definitely overstaying his welcome. (lol)

- Watching the Ghost & Mrs Muir with Rex and Tierney on my new TV. ☺

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Everyone thought he was 10yrs younger than he actually was

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is an all time fave of mine.
Rex Harrison was really smoldery in that one.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Mine too!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thought Gene Tierney was so beautiful.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I'll add it to my list

She also played a devious tramp in "Leave her to Heaven"

Gene Tierney in "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir":

President JFK had an early affair with Gene Tierney in the 1940's after WWII, before he was married, and she didn't seem to have any regrets...she commented on his blue eyes.

I guess things were "busy" in the good ol' days, when the media presented a squeaky clean image.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I forgot about that.
He chose very classic women. Except for Marilyn ,Jackie and Gene wore designer originals.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Haven't heard of Modern Family, Jo. Doesn't sound like my kind of show.

I would like to start watching Six Feet Under.

Haven't seen The Ghost And Mrs. Muir.

Saw the new Yogi Bear movie. Cute, and loved seeing the animation done on Yogi and Boo Boo, but the story was so predictable. I could have fallen asleep and wouldn't have missed much.

I also saw the remake of True Grit. I have always loved the original with John Wayne, and I thought I was not going to care at all for the new one, but it turned out to be surprisingly good. Jeff Bridges did a great job as Rooster Cogburn. I still prefer the original, though.

Thanks, Jo. Will give those a try. Still working on season 3 of Dexter. Have one more show on the second disc, then have 2 more discs to watch.

Merry Christmas!

Amazon.com has the complete series of Six Feet Under for 69.99. That's all five seasons and includes extras and a commemorative book. Might think about getting it, but I'll watch the first season through Netflix first and see how I like it. I just checked it out there and found you can't watch that one instantly, which is a bummer.

A little over $10 a foot - not bad!

I never saw it.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

great show - watch them all through netflix not worth buying them - do not understand buying movie dvd's unless it is an anual watch like some xmass movies.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Same here Bill. I have the good Jane Austens and a Dickins . I watch them periodically .
Movies are repeated so often It's not necessary to own them.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I buy them on sale, $10 or less, and do watch my favorites repeatedly. If I don't really like it, it was only $10. Less than going to the show, but a smaller screen. Thought about netflix but I don't know if I would watch a lot.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Your plan seems reasonable Deb.
I just dont like the theaters anymore, sound too loud and people are rude.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

And the seats are not that comfy!

I agree with the above comments, I keep putting off subscribing to Netflix because I can't come up with enough film titles for a list!

If I really love a film, I would just add it to my modest film library; they can be shared with friends and relatives who have the same pattern.

Most recent purchases:

"Blazing Saddles"

"Austin Powers" (first film, not the sequels)

TV is so awful I rent 3 per week from Netflix. My list is 53 long.
I rent series I wouldnt ordinarily watch. They air too late at night.
No recording for me.

Huge Hefiner 84 got engaged to 24 year old. I think Miss December. 60 years difference. What will those 2 have in common to talk about.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Didnt you know?
IT'S ALL ABOUT HIM!!!!!!!!!

Granted its only his 3rd marriage. They have all came out wealthy though.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Doubt he's interested in talking. Wants to go out with a bang - with the aid of Viagra.

I doubt hes complaining.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

He has done well for living such a superficial life.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

funny... I just bought blazing saddles a few months ago

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)
