Dave

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well, the wind has arrived but no rain or snow.

I had Vern turn on the irrigation system. When I asked him to do it he asked, "Does it need to be done right now"? I had asked him about an hour earlier. I said, please (but that was not what I was thinking) and at the same time you can show me how to do it so i will know how. I know how to turn on separate stations but not all stations on a rotation. Now I know. I had the system rotate because Google said wet plants do better in the freeze than dry plants.

I guess it is a good thing I do not have a gun . I would have blown his head off. "Do you need it right now? No I need it next week"!!!!!!!!!!!!

But pretty soon I will know how to do everything and then he will not have to do anything. Grrrrrrrrrr.....

I did some more clutter cleaning today. Under the kitchen sink and the first shelf in the kitchen cabinet that Vern has taken over as his medicine cabinet. He had started moving on to the second shelf, so I removed everything and told him to go through it and put what was no longer good in the box I had placed on the floor. So now all his crap is back on one shelf.

Sorry, but you guys are cheaper than a doctor. Maybe I should join JB with her cocktail every evening.

I am with you Dawn and JB. I need to lose some weight at the first of the year. JB, if I recall from your photo, you were not overweight. I think we should start a new thread under propagation. Propagators getting in shape for the spring.

Jnette, Todd & family are up somewhere near Bend, Oregon skiing with the girls and two other families.

I have decided not to go to Canada for the Iris convention. 2012 is in Ontario, California. That is just down the road a bit. But I still want to go to Canada. I have never been there. But first I have to get my passport. I also want to go to the Salem, Oregon area during the iris bloom. The iris was my mother's favorite flower.

I have a friend i the hospital. She just had her 5th hip surgery on the 2th. I am going to see her and then get my manicure.

My daughter will be 49 on Jan. 2. Hannah goes back to school Saturday.
Later friends, everyone stay warm and safe.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Dave, cross post.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Well Sharon, I have your friend beat. I have had 6 hip replacements and 9 dislocations. How is your friend doing? How old is she? I hope not to have any more. I am very careful and don't do things I feel might cause a problem. The older you get the longer it takes to get over things like that I have found. I need an ankle fused but have been putting it off for over a year.

Oh well. However, if I did lose some weight it would help a bunch. But, it is so hard to lose weight when you are eating with someone like Bob who doesn't want to lose weight and loves food.

I could get a lot more done tho if I lost some weight.

Well, think I'll go to bed, ttyl,

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

My friend is 69. She has really bad osteoporosis. She fell and broke this one again. She is very thin but that is because her hands are so malformed from arthritis that it is very hard for her to eat. She used to e 5'10" she is now 4'10". Very frail and can only walk with a walker when her hip is not broken.

Getting old is sad. We used to tear this town up.

Vern loves to eat also, but does not cook but also does not gain weight.

mulege, Mexico

My thermometer says 58. It feels colder but will warm up as the day goes on.

I want to say how glad I am that I found this thread. I don't even remember how I got here but I think I've found a good group.

Today I woke up a little before seven and said to myself, "enough moping. Get up and get dressed." So I did. Also played with the dogs - a morning ritual no matter how I feel.

I ate a tangerine off my tree yesterday. The tree did not produce well this year but the ones it has are like honey. It seems to produce well alternate years. Another tangerine is producing for the first time; its fruits are a littler to ripen.

Tony will be here soon. He has been able to come late while I've been depressed. He knows I don't mind as long as he's here for most of his work day. He's consciencious enough that if he knows I'm up, he'll be here at seven. We both have Christmas "issues" are help each other through them. Without ever feeling the need to "share." We just shrug and move one.

Glad to be feeling human again. And happy to have all of you for company.

katie

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Hey Gang, the sun is out the themp is almost 40 deg. the snow is melting and I think life is good. So there.

I started a new thread on Mid-Atlantic forum. it is called Holiday Cactus General Discussion forum. I just put it up yesterday and it is doing well. I hope we can keep it going and learn some good stuff about the Christmas CActus.
Off to get to work. cleaning day. I hate to clean. Talk later.

Pawleys Island, SC

Hi everyone! I lurked yesterday and kept thinking I would post later, but it never happened. I went shopping/ ( returning wrong sized gifts) with Mom yesterday so by the time I got home, I really didn't do much else. While Burk watched the football games, I worked on one of the big piggy swaps I am doing at the other site/ ( I really don't know why I do those).

Today, it was about 30 when I got up, but I think it is supposed to warm into the 50's. I would love it warmer because I would like to winter sow a few things. This is my first year intentionally wintersowing so I am interested to see what comes of it.

JB we are looking at rain later in the week, but no more snow. I hope you get more rain than snow ( I think).

Katie, I am glad you found us too. We are a fun group at times. We are all just a little nuts. LOL Katie, I love to grow citrus trees here. could we trade something for some of your tangerines that taste like honey?

I got a letter this week that made it very clear to me that I will be going back to work as soon as I can find a job. I don't mind though, it is time. I have been a stay home mom for the last 15 years and now it is time for me to come out of retirement. I am still going to grow my plants and design my jewelry, but It will do me good and help me too as they say to return to work. So anyway if you all would just pray that I find a really wonderful job that I love that pays well, I would appreciate it.

Dave with the cost of fresh produce and what they say gas will soon cost, we may all be in trouble. It is scary to think about. I hope you enjoy Busch gardens. Check out all the new landscape designs and shoot us a couple of pictures so we can drool, please.

You can only diet around here if nobody knows you are dieting. Burk loves to cook and to eat and can't stand the thought of me not eating as much as he does, ( most often more), Mom can't stand the thought of me being thinner than she is and my son just loves to tempt me to see if he can win the test of wills. He went vegan for a long time, so he definitely has the stronger will. LOL

Dawn, I miss being surrounded by the mountains like we were there. Here I have to drive 5 hours to the foothills, but I do love life on the coast so I am not complaining.

I am planning to finish up all of my trading and piggy swaps today and then work on decluttering a few areas. I really need to go through my cabinets and get rid of some things.

JB, I will look for the holiday cactus forum. I have a few and I love to collect different varieties.

Anyway, hope everyone has a wonderful day.
Linda

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Goodness you guys are chipper this morning. JB I just saw the natil weather report and no you are not suppose to get this storm!! What did you do to make that happen? Naughty or nice? I don't believe it!!

It is beautiful out here, the sun on the tops of the trees that are so full of snow and the blue sky above it is like a Christmas card. But Christmas is over!!!

Linda, Burk sounds just like Bob!! He piles my plate full and when I eat just a little of it accuses me of not liking his cooking! However, we do not just eat vegetables. Both love the meat and potatoes plus the vegetables, salads etc. Love the pastas too but not so much that we eat a lot of them.

Neither of us likes the word or connotation of "diet". If it says or sounds like it we won't eat it. A real turn off.

JB, I think the CC or Holiday cactus are beautiful, but if I am going to tend and make room for plants I prefer the tropicals like the philodendron class. I know that is not the right thing to call them but best description I can give you and make you know what I mean. Also, I loved my Aimee and she did so good until I let her outside for the summer and then brought her in. It was like she was kicking and screaming for having to come in for the winter.

You know Sharon, age has nothing to do with arthritis. Many years ago I had a neighbor boy who was still in junior highschool that just stumbled down the road every day he was so crippled up from arthritis.

I think my mouse is dying. Guess I had better get off here before it infects my computer.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Hey Jen, in no way was I suggesting you change your preference. I was merely saying the site is there for those who enjoy the CC. I was never a real fan until I found the need to learn more. They are great sellers all year round and I had to learn about them if I sold them. Now I am hooked. They are so easy to grow and so many people want then because they are great for small apartments, etc.

I just told God I had enough of his snow storms and I guess he was listening.

This is the time of year for field mice to come in the house, so maybe your little mouse wants to run and play with them......dont be such a ninny. Let the poor thing go play.

That Aimee should come back if it gets enough sun or light of some sort. Mine are looking better since they have had some good hot sun. Which reminds me, I need to check to see if they area being cooked now. The sun is hot and the GH temp goes sky high when the sun is out too long a time. Off I go. JB

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Sharon ~ Now after hearing that tale of the 69 year old woman, of which I am, I feel oh, so fortunate. In the last three years, I fell down our indoor stairs twice, and broke nothing that could be detected. Almost a year ago, I fell on the cement floor just coming out of the basement garage. I smashed my face severely and there has been minor injury to my jaw besides having my lip sown up (not shut - haha!). My nose (

and forhead) was red for most of the year. I put loads of sunscreen on it, once it started to heal, as I did not want to further damage it. I was shocked at my appearance, as you might imagine.

I take calcium every day, so possibly that helped, as I do not know if it is hereditary or not, but I did not want to take any chances.

Jeanette ~ You are right to be careful not to take unecessary chances of falling. Some things cannot be repaired. And they are not the same if they are. I am sorry to learn that your mouse is sick. Maybe you need a new one?

JB ~ That is wonderful that you grow something easy to grow and that others want to buy. Do you actually make a living wage out of the plants and trees that you sell? It is a hard time for most these days. So many folks are losing their jobs and homes. Where will they go? Oh, the greenhouse gets hot every time the sun is shining, even when it is cold outside? That must make for quite a bit of scrambling. Do you have a large greenhouse? You have gardenias and holiday cactus in there...what else is in there now? Have you started some cuttings or seeds? Well, if it is a hobby, do you at least recup your horticultural expenses?

Linda ~ It is hard to chose between coast or mountains, and as much as I enjoyed going to the beach for many years, I really like the mountains now. We rarely get more than a couple of feet of snow during winter and it is hot all summer, but, of course, spring and fall are my favorites. When I lived in southern CA, I did not appreciate spring quite as much, as there were flowers blooming all year there.

I think that I will start listing my expenses at the start of the year, even though most purchases have been made last year. I have not been keeping tabs, and although I do not sell anything, it would be good to know how much I am spending. I have been hiding it from myself for years now. I rarely buy clothes or even makeup anymore. Some ladies buy clothes or shoes...I buy dirt, plants, seeds and all things related. That is why I will be doing more propagating and less, not no, buying.
Although dieting is not on my agenda, exercise is. I never do it during winter, and then at the start of spring I go "Gung-Ho" in the garden and then I have to stay in due to injury. I hate being weak. I am not used to being sedentary, but I notice that since I no longer need to go to work, during the winter I am in the house for most of the time.

Last year I was in a lot of pain, and trying to bravely carry on in the garden was a real challenge. I hope that I can get back to my PT exercises along with a few others on a regular basis. Then I will be stronger and won't hurt so much. That is the theory anyway. Anyone else have any "New Year's Resolutions"?

1. Journal every day
2. Exercise every day - go for walks when possible
3. Eat fruits & veggies every day (no dieting!)

Well that is enough for me anyway....what are yours?

Ventress, LA(Zone 8b)

Pughbear, where are you?
My mind is craving plant knowledge. Give us a hollar....

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

LOL, no journal Evelyn. I would not like to know what I spend on plants. I rarely buy clothes, on line only 'cause I do not like to shop. Unless it is for plants that is.

My sister wants us to go back to the gym once a week so yes, we are going to start going. It only costs $10 a month for as much as you want to do. They have everything there. You would not believe. 3 pools, a gym, and all the exercise equipment that you would kill yourself on most of them. But they have a beginners that we use when we go. Things that stretch out your spine, strengthen your legs etc.

Nothing you would really lose weight on, but maybe strengthen your muscles which is something I really need. I would go more often if it weren't so far. We have to drive about 20 miles each way so it actually takes half a day for an hour's workout. Guess I said 3 swim pools, hot tub, sauna, etc. It belongs to the Indians, but for $10, whoops, I think it is $5 a month for over 70s now anyway, I don't think you could beat it anywhere.

Then they also have a sandwich bar with salads, and fantastic sandwiches and soup and a daily special for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course the prices are really good so if you go exercise for an hour, spend a half hour for lunch, then you are spending a half a day right? Oh well, in the winter I don't have that much to do anyway. We did let off during the summer. We just didn't have time then with the gardens etc.

So, I do get their fresh fruit and vegetable salads, does that count? It is more than I eat at home anyway. But no dieting. LOL

Evelyn, you are telling me to be careful and then tell me all the times you fell??? Well, look who's talking!! Come up here and go to the gym with us. Then you can say you are just exercising when you fall. LOL

No JB, my Airmee is not going to come back. It is toast. I hate that. It was doing so well. Had big buds on it and everything.

I am going to let this mouse go play alright. Wonder how far I can throw it.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

We cross posted Peg. I think Dave is enjoying his time on vacation. He said he won't be back until the 3rd. So, it is our time to play.

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Jeanette ~ I fell due to the fact that at the time, I was taking too many meds. I am off all of them now - sleep, muscle relaxer, anti-anxiety, narcotic pain pills. The only thing I use is acetaminophen, enteric coated aspirin and anti-inflammatory patches, when needed. The first two, however, every day. It was a challenge, especially the Ambien. It took over a year to get a good night's sleep. I was taking Ambien for years, though. None of them are good long term. And even with the pain pills, etc., I still had pain.

Yes, I still have pain but try other things. I use a heat pack to put in the microwave every night, before bed. That all being said, I have not fallen since last January, and probably will not fall again. (At that time I tripped on a shoelace.) I am more careful as well. Those falls scared me. I just need to get strong so I can be more productive in the garden. Last year I was not expecting such a short growing season. This year I hope to be better prepared all around. It is important to be strong, especially if you want to do physically demanding work.

I have been hiding from myself my true cost of gardening. It will be an eye-opener for sure. I will estimate what I have purchased this last year in anticipation for the growing season. I was lucky to get those 2 thermostats on sale from T&M. They email those sales to me, and I almost deleted it but gave it a glance over. Then, of course, I had to research the cost of heat mats, since I have been using heating pads. Stokes had them for a little bit less than others and the shipping fee was comparable. (Then, of course, I had to get a "propagator"!) LOL! It included a heat mat, tray, 2 sizes of domes, the tall one that had vents. Good for those slow starters.

So, what are you growing this coming year? Will you be doing anything during the winter? (Inquiring minds want to know...) Not just Jeanette....come on, y'all share!

This colchicum was taken Nov 12th before the snow hit us on the 20th.

I do not think I want to know what I spend on gardening. But I do not buy new clothes, we do not travel, go out to dinner, go to the movies, drink or smoke. We occasionally have a drink. Vern usually has a small drink every night. I use to drink to much so I gave it up.

My biggest eating problem is that I usually do not eat before 2pm. I just cannot even think about food before then. So I need to start my morning off with breakfast. I start my morning with a very cold diet Pepsi. I need to get Pepsi off my list also.

Evelyn, I had a series of falling. Just like you but mine was brought on by vertigo. One day I was fine, the next thing I was falling every time I walked and turned at the same time. Two times I really hurt myself. The first time I whacked mthe back of my head. I am surprised I did not end up in he hospital. Send time, I fell flat on my face. Broke my glasses, bent, but did not break my nose and really bloodied up my face.

That is when they sent me to balance classes. Social Security paid for it. They did get rid of the vertigo and I still have the balance problem. I have just learned not to walk, talk and turn at the same time. All the balance classes were was leg strengthening and eye contact with moving objects.

OK Linda, I will bite. What was in the letter? What is your work history so I can tell you where I think you should look. Maybe we will all have ideas.

Lee did you get blowing snow today. That is what they said on the National news tonight. Said the east was going to be in the 50s and 60s.

Jnette, if I lived in your area, I would be taking very long walks in the summer.

OK you wonderful people. Have a very joyous New Year's Eve tomorrow night. Stay safe and sober. Love you. Sharon.

JB God is going to give you what you asked for. Warm temperatures which will melt your snow and then you will up to your ears in mud.

Peg, you want to talk about plants? Oh right, this is a propagation thread.... Dave usually keeps us on track.

Miles City, MT(Zone 3b)

Yep, blowing snow. Looked almost like a blizzard, and I don't mean a DQ one. Horrible, and with the cold, you just stay in if possible.
I lost most of my SPV. They got the spider mites I think. Almost overnite. and they seemed like they were doing so good. Oh well, Guess I will try something else.
Better get our visiting done quickly, Dave will be back soon.

I am up early again today. Not feeling as good as yesterday. I had to break up a dog fight last night. One of my two little dogs had gotten out and not come back for several hours. When she finally came back, after dark, the two big dogs didn't like the way she smalled and tried to kill her. Jenny had her by the neck and was shaking her while Amber went for her abdomen. I don't trust them enough to pile in there. I kept pounding on them with my fists. Finally got to where I could pick up my upright Hoover and hit Jenny with it - on the side and not very hard mostly due to my physical limitaations but it was enough to break things up. I'd been screaming at them the whole time (maybe three endelss minutes) so my throat is sore.

It's about 55 today, I think. I need to make myself some new flannel nightgowns. I have all the "stuff" - flannerl material, pattern, working sewing machine. All I need is a little energy. ha.

Tony's here. We're just going to walk around a little and talk about improvements that Ii'd like done sometime. All the necessary work is done. When I moved in there were no windows or roofs and only one oom had a floor -very rough concrete. While my neighbor looks down her nose at me I am grateful to be safe from the weather (maybe unless we get a bad earthquake). There is a lot of owrk that still would be nice to have done someday but I find that for whatever reasons I am very grateful for all that I have. I can enjoy what's done and plan other work or I can b..ch at myself. The work that could be done is endless - I think every gardener knows that.

I told tony about the dog fight and cautioned him to be sure to close the gates when he's done working. We have a series of areas that are blocked off from each other so the dogs have room to run around but cannot get off the property.

Remeber tonight is amatuer night for drinkers. The best night of the year to stay home and safe.Happy New Year everyone.

Mornin All!

It is going to be gorgeous here today. Lee, I wish you could come visit to get out of all those blizzards. I really want to get outside if possible, but I have a few projects going on inside that have to be done first. I got my piggy swaps done and in the mail yesterday, so I only have 1 more "commitment" to keep before the new year starts and I am free.

I told the Bible study group that I couldn't return after Christmas ( that was before I started job searching) due in largest part to Mom losing her eyesight and Burk not really feeling all that great. I will probably be lost for a while, so you guys will just have to put up with me more often.

Evelyn, When I first married, I lived in the mountains of NC. It was great. I loved it. financially it was disastrous, but until the really bad winters hit, it was wonderful. We were also dealing with Burk's Dad and Aunt aging and wanting us to live closer and of course my family wanted us to live closer, so after about the 4th time we were snowed in completely in the same 2-3 months, I told Burk I was ready to go "home". We were able to sell our house and move back here within about a month. I don't regret it. I do miss the mountains at times, but I cut my teeth on sea shells, so I can always go vacationing in the "hills".

Sharon, the letter basically explained about a 40% cut in my income. That is why there is no doubt I will go back to work. By training, I am a history teacher, but my passion is working in the nursery business. I can do landscape designs, and I can manage a crew, but I can no longer do the physical work because of my spinal issues. I really don't want to go back to teaching ( don't have the nerves for it anymore) but I would love the hours. Like Dave and JB, I have been selling plants and cuttings for a couple of years and when the season is good, I can do that. The problem is now I need something more dependable. I cannot run a business from my home due to HOA rules, so the only way I can sell the plants is online or maybe occasional yard sales. I do love doing my jewelry designs and they are beginning to sell too. I think it is just a matter of deciding what I would like to do.

There is no way I want to know what i spend each year on gardening. LOL That would be frightening! I prefer to let it kind of just go unnoticed until something blooms. I am like most of you, I rarely buy clothes or shoes, but I do buy gardening stuff and jewelry supplies. We won't tell anyone about those things though right?

Katie, I am so sorry about the dog fight last night. How scary that must have been. I hope all the dogs are well now. I have a mutt that cannot stand anyone or anything close to his face and so I don't trust him very much, but the other dog is a very gentle soul. my cat is 17 and I watched her slap the mutt silly yesterday so she can still hold her own.

Temps are supposed to be in the 50's tonight and 60's tomorrow. I am going outside to play!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope everyone has a Wonderful New Year!
Linda

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

You all are going to think I am crazy, but I spent a wonderful hour vacuuming my house yesterday. Yep, got my new vacuum powerhead and boy do I love it!! I had so much dog and cat hair I plugged it. Can you believe that? You would not believe the plug I finally got out of it. Then of course I had to vacuum that mess up. But, I vacuumed the furniture, put other things in the washer to get the hair out of it, and now I almost feel dog and cat hair and dander free. The air in here is so much better to breath.

Isn't it amazing what can please us? LOL, the birds out there are eating good now that they have decided they are going to have to share the suet I made for them. I am surprised it is still out there. It froze last night so no smell for the raccoons.

Suppose to be -5 tonight. Oh well, as long as it is warm in here I enjoy looking out at it.

I took this yesterday off my livingroom deck.

Good Grief, I finally caught up on all of yesterday's posts and I honestly must tell you, I had every intention of answering all the questions, but by the time I got to this place I forgot the questions and who ask them.
I remember someone ask about do I make any money on selling plants. The answer is NO, but I am able to use that as a deduction on my Income Tax because I am a certified nursery and have a greenhouse and sell online and keep very good books. I never want a red flag to go up.
When I retired from the last job I had in 1995 I had already been retired from the American Cancer Society. The pension from them is a big $61.00 a month. That job was back in the 1960s and they did not pay into the pension fund. I made almost nothing as Executive Director at that time, but I did not need it then. I was being divorced and he was paying for most of my expenses. When I retired this time I got a State Pension, and I get a Marine Corp Pension plus my Social Security. I am very fortunate to have a nice income, but I have nothing taken out of it for taxes so I get socked big time if I have no deductions, therefore, I have always had a business of some sorts.
I had a shop where I sold dried flowers and fruits and did floral designs, an exotic bird farm where I bred and raised medium and small parrots and canaries and sold them (did make money there) , I had a horse related gift business many years ago and on it goes. Over the years I have always had a business on the side to keep me busy and to keep the taxes under control. I must say, that is the hard way to do it but I love to work and it has kept me healthy and moving. When you have responsibilities you keep moving. When you stop being interested in other things and your life gets boring, you get lazy and eventually sick. I intend to work until I drop dead.
The thought of being unable to do physical things almost makes me crazy. I get very anxious and depressed when I dwell on that subject.

I don't know if that answered one of those questions or not, but I hope it did.

My greenhouse started as a hobby and still is basically. When I get too many starter plants I sell on the internet. I have a field of daffodils that I have collected over the past six years and when they bloom, I cut and sell them at the corner on a stand. During the winter I try and keep my stock plants alive and exercise by walking the dog and on the treadmill plus I have a few CDs for older people. I still say that I keep moving better since the Chiropractor sees me once a week.

I too suffered from in inner ear problem and vertigo. I went to all kind of specialists, PT and nothing helped until the Chiropractor took over. I take no medications for that at all any longer. The only meds I take are for high blood pressure , which if my pressure now is usually 130/80 unless I am going to a doctor then it will go up because of anxiety. Lately it has been in the 120s/ over 68 to 74.....so I would say the Diavon is working very well. I take Crestor for my Colesterol which is now 190. I have eye drops for glaucoma and that is the extent of my prescription meds. Aciphex for GURD because I am too fat for my size. 5 ft. 2 and 152 lbs. Makes me so angry I can not take off more weight. Oh well.

I apologize if I rambled on here, but I thought you ask for some of this info. I do want to say that I am dedicated to LifeForce International, the liquid vitamins because without them i doubt if I would be able to function. I began using them when the Chiropractor told me about the regular vitamins and how they just feed my heartburn and then leave my gut. He does not sell LifeForce. He too found it a help with his stomach and shared the info with me. I also think the Tru Boost they make has helped lower the cholesterol because before I started to take it I could not get below 210 with Crestor. Tru Boost is mostly B vitamins.

O.K. I am finished. I must get back to posting my expenses for the month. Accountant has already sent me my worksheet for the past year and I know he thinks I will respond early. I like to get it done and over with. Less Pain...........LOL

Have a wonderful New Year people.Get out there and walk and stay well. Love you all. JB

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well hello I got on here early to wish you a Happy New Year. I usually get on and you are already off. Someone just showed up. Later friends. All be safe.

Miles City, MT(Zone 3b)

And a very HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you. I won't see the ball drop, except maybe tomorrow morning on the news, but know I am with you in spirit. Still some snow flurries, not as much as they predicted, but if I never see another flake, I would be happy.

JB, what is GURD?? I take Aciphex for a small ulcer. So what is that? Never knew a Chiropractor that could fix everything. Most of the ones I ever went to caused everything. Just kidding. But notice I don't go to them any more.

Sharon that plant sounds interesting but don't know if it is the one or not.

And Lee, I'm with you. But, it is still only 10 degrees here during the day and -5 tonight. Cold.

So, Happy New Year to you all too.

See you next year. ttyl

Miles City, MT(Zone 3b)

Next year will be a much better year for all of us. That is my wish.

Happy New Year....it is 8PM and I should be in bed but I stopped in to say Happy New Year and then Jen asked about GURD.. I am not sure, it is like heartburn but maybe I have the wrong word. I will look it up and tell you tomorrow. It is like heartburn only different. I promise I will get the right word tomorrow. I am too tired to think just now. I had too much to eat (broiled scallops) again and I need to go to bed and wait for the new year to arrive.

See you all tomorrow. Nite

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Hey Jen, I could not go to bed without knowing myself what the H I take it for. Here is my problem. Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD So I was close, Now I will remember by thinking Gerd rhymes with Herd and Terd..............sorry, I am going to bed now.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

[quote="Jnette"]Peg, it's a Euphorbia. Tiny white flowers on nice greenery I use it for fillers in my containers. But that's a lot of plants. I couldn't find a place to ask the seller if they would plant them.

Jnette, this was what you were looking for in mid November. That is what I was referring to above. Just got on and now I will go back and read today's posts.

Happy New Years Eve to all of you just in case you all are long winded.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I too suffered from in inner ear problem and vertigo. I went to all kind of specialists, PT and nothing helped until the Chiropractor took over. I take no medications for that at all any longer.

JB, next time you have your visit with your Chiropractor, ask him what he does so I can find one here that can help me with my balance problem.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I got a letter from JP Morgan Chase stating if I opened a checking account before 12/31 I would get $125 added to my account after the first $500 deposit. So I did that this afternoon so now I have $125 to spend of plants. I have been with Bank of America for over 20 years and have been thinking about changing for many months.

Take care of yourselves and love being sent your way. 2011 is going to be a great year for all of us. Sharon.

Goodness, let me just say I agree with who ever was going to comment on many things and forgot, you chatty folks were on a roll, all snowed in and bundled up in your homes, typing away. So let me think.

Ibartoo yes I would gladly go to the coast and give up my valley view and caleche soil.

question: I asked on freecycle if anyone was giving hay or straw away. A man said he just gave a bunch away in October but wanted to know if I had use for old dry corn? Do I? Let me know if you know something I could use it for. I think it takes forever to break down old husks in my past experience.

Ev I can't remember if I gave you my address. I hope you get your problem fixed soon, since chat is only a few days a week here.

In Utah it is like that too JB, you can just get anything at a Gun show, my h told me. In California there is a mandatory wait of 10 days to get a gun and it is not easy for the good guy to get one, but as you stated the crooks all have plenty of them here.

I can see why having a nursery would not be a good profit maker. Most of the ones around here fold up. Established ones are folding now too.

I ate so much junk in the last week. It aint pretty. The day aint over but tomorrow is a new day. lol

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Dawn, forgot to tell you I sent your Caster Bean seeds. Bob sent them and can't remember when, but I think it was just yesterday or day before.

Merry Christmas. LOL

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Sharon, Take a look at Dr. Partite's website. You can email him your questions.

Sharon, get out of BOA. Biggest crooks ever.

Ok, JB, I am going to look at the site you sent to Sharon. LOL, if you didn't want me to you should have sent it Dmail.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I did not think it was a private conversation. We discuss everything else on this list. Go back to bed. Get up on the right side next time.............Hi, Jen, nice to see you too.

I must wipe off my camellias, they have a white thing on the leaves and it is not mealy bug. What could it be? Help!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I need to unmold my roses. I have to do it and have needed to for months. I have been procrastinating it, since I have such bad luck with blooms anyways. I want to use a home made concoction. Need to do it asap...
Moved a large rose yesterday. It was not fun or easy because of my shoulder problem and my trigger finger and thumb. I got quite creative though and pulled it with a towel and used my legs, squeezing my arms tight to my body. Poor rose looks a bit shocked. The leaves mostly turned brown. Going to B1 it for a while. I took out a small one too. Too much shade and they don't bloom except in Spring prior to trees leafing out.

You guys are a spunky group. You have to have some thick skin to survive the thread. Survival of the Sacastic.

Evelyn was I sending you Castor Seeds too. I will send them Monday if the post office is opened? Did they close yesterday or Monday?

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Jeanette and Ev for your kind gifts.

I think I am going to plant a lot of MG seed varieties this year, Petunia varieties and Dianthus too. Mine are still all leafed out and some were blooming not long ago.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Ev this is the mother of the Castor if that is what you wanted. I kind of forgot if it was that.

JB, it sounds like it could be tea scale on your camellias. I have one outside that needs to be treated asap! It's a big red double. If I remember I will take pictures tomorrow.
Here is a link I found for you just scroll down till you get to the tea scale section.

Got out to the greenhouse and watered in everything, then i started about 6 wintersowing containers ( mostly hostas) and now I need to collect more bottles and jugs. LOL Maybe in truth I should wait until spring and just start them then.

I usually have something in bloom in the yard somewhere, but this week nothing is blooming. In the greenhouse, there are a couple of cacti blooming, but no flowers of any kind in the yard. I certainly won't complain, I know some of you can't see your yard, but I can't imagine what that would be like.

Gotta go.
Linda
