Plant Propagation part XXVI based on my own experience

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Welcome home Dave. Hope all goes well for you and you recover from your trip without any additional problems popping up. Sometimes the change in climate can really play havoc with us. Looking forward to your pictures. JB

Me too---Welcome back

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Sounds like you had a good time Dave. I don't know how you could have gotten "up to speed" on all the crap we posted while you were on vacation. LOL, we were just blabbing most of the time.

Anyway, welcome back and maybe you can get us back on track with spring just round the corner.

JB promised.

BTW, JB, I want to buy another Aimee from you.

Ventress, LA(Zone 8b)

Welcome, welcome, welcome!! PBear. Your were in my neck of the woods if you were in New Orleans. Only a 2 hour drive away from me. I could have packed you a care package of plants to get you back in the swing of things.

Glad to see you all happy...whether it is complaining or not. Sometimes I just have to smile.

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Welcome home Dave! I am sure you will tell us more about it once you get settled in from the upcoming storm.

Peg ~ What's the weather like where you are now? It has to be warmer than all of us.

Jeanette & JB ~ Are you still snowed in? Or has it melted a bit? I hope you don't get a lot of accumulation.

Lee ~ You must be really freezing there. Do you have a wood stove? We have a fire in for most of the winter, as we have propane heat, but it is not enough during the colder months. I bet Stormy still loves the outdoors though. when our dog (black lab, now deceased) used to go outside, he really liked to play in the snow, just like a little kid.

Katie ~ Go outside for a nice long walk with your dogs. (Maybe that will wake you up.)

Sharon ~ Are you OK? Are you back in the garage? (Which package did you get?)

Well, I must get back to work and wrap up these precious commodities for folks who want them. Once I have finished, then I can get my seed-starting setup ready to go. I'll start with some slow growers like petunias and others. I'll let you know.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

evening:
today we hit the upper 40's low 50's ..."I think" will know more later. I am glad to be home.

I would have loved a care pkg but we were on the ground for about 15 min in new orleanes except when waiting for the ski team..."party on DUDE" lol

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

"Am I Blue". Anyone remember that song? Well come this summer I am going to be seeing blue. Evelyn sent me seeds for Blue flowers I did not even know were blue. And I have Blue bulbs that have been in the laundry room frig for just under two months. I need to get the area ready where I plan on planting all this Blue. I am going to start seed indoor in the garage in two weeks.

I have my SUV back in the garage and I have everything that was under the kitchen sink put up where it belongs and the laundry room is again clean. I had stuck everything from under the sink in the laundry room.

Dave, I have three trees in the garage, one is a Bougainvillea and one is a Tropical Hibiscus and another is a tree with very small very purple flowers. I will find the name of that one. I cannot seem to keep them from wilting. The garage stays at 60 degrees with the help of Christmas trees lights. I have three other Tropical Hibiscus that are blooming. It appears the trees are the ones having a problem staying hydrated.

Jnette, you are just BAD....Remember, I used to be a top salesman nation wide with Chase. That is because I have never met a stranger. The young man was just adorable, pleasant, and knowledgeable. The problem with the one room was a telephone company DSL problem and would not be worth the cost. It is my fault because I designed the house and did not think about having more than one computer in the house.

As far as sports, it did not use to be a problem because Vern would go upstairs to his "Man Cave" and watch his TV upstairs and I did my thing downstairs inside or out. Since his illness he very seldom goes upstairs. He is hard of hearing and therefore, the sound is very loud. It usually does not bother me but because I hve been in the house it had me goi g up the wall but I had a tal with myself and I am OK.

I think I need to fly back and give JB a kick in the butt.

Katie, I thought if your ears were popping it meant you were full of hot air.

I have a new credit card coming from Chase and then I am closing my visa credit card from Nordstrom. I get Nordstrom dollars back from my current visa to be spent only at Nordstroms. No longer my style so the granddaughters get the money. I actually shredded two cards today we received last week. We had canceled the cards over a year ago. GM Visa and a Discover. I guess I should get a copy of my credit report and see what cards they still show open.

Lee, how are you sweet lady.

Hey gang, what colors are you going after in the summer garden. I am going through my seeds and I will keep an eye open if you guys will let me know what you want.

Vern has doctor appointment tomorrow to get a referral to a neurologist. Already have an appointment with the neurologist but need a referral. He is beginning to have problems with walking. Left foot will not cooperate. And Jnette, I think you are right, I think he is depressed.

Has anyone bit on the Black Petunia? I got three more seed catalogs today. Burpee's catalog says they cannot ship plants to Nevada. I am going to call them and ask them why? Dave would you have any idea why? I can understand California or Hawaii but Nevada. Later friends. If I forgot anyone, I am sorry. Sharon...

JB and Katie, photo is for you.

Good morning everyone

Love the cartoon,Sharon. Can I get it on a t-shirt? A dozen t-shirts?

My ear is still bothering me. It is getting better but still hurts. I don't doubt that I am full of hot air but shouldn't that make me feel self-satisfied. Pain is depressing.

Some good news. About time, right? I was at the local hardware store yesterday and ran into my friend Mel. Mel, like me, is something of a recluse and we visit when we run into each other, maybe twice a year. During our last hurrican Mel got ten feet of water in is house. He was on the west side of town. He told me yesterday that he has moved to the eats side of town just up the road from me. So I have another friend in the neighborhood. I told him about my neighbor offering me the leftovers from the dinner she did not invite me to, swearing him to secrecy. He got a good laugh out of it. Also found out he is also a recovering alcholic with 22 years sober. I'm coming up on 25.. Another bond. We are good friends so I'm glad he'll be closer.

Yes I remember "Am I Blue." Ain't these tears in my eyes telling you?

Pain, pain go away. Come again some other day. I tired of this.

Nothing for me at the post office. I have to call Geico. I also have to get down on my knees and look under the bed to see if that's where the dogs hid my George Carlin tapes.

I don't think I'm always this self-centered. Bear with me, OK? If I'm able to walk around some I'll pick lemons and red grapefruit for my friend Saul to sell in his store. His litttle store supports 22 memebers of his famly so he appreciates any help I can give him. Makes me feel better, too.

I was up in time to see the sun rise . Morning skies to the east are allmost always beautiful shades of red and pin. Worth getting up for. These last months have been hard and I've been sleeping later, mostly recovering from a torn tendon. Much better now, I'm getting up earlier. Still babying the ankle.

I am still recovering from my neighbor who I now realize is a lot like my mother was - always ready to find fault, usually not very well disguised as a joke.

Tony is here and fixing the leak in the water hose that goes to my outdoor sink.

I like my life here. I am really glad that my neighbor is not oferring up her endless criticisms. I like her. That's what's so frustrating. But it's like women who stay with abusive men out of "love." Self-protection has got to come first. And I am feeling better with her out of my hair even though it may not sound liek it.

Glad to have another curmudgeon or two to get through this with.

Maybe I'll start getting ready to brown bag the kitchen wall. Might as well put this grumpy mood to good use.

Thank you all for being here.

It is trying to rain and my spine is screaming! I had plans to get a lot done today, but haven't gotten motivated yet. It is chilly and damp today and very gray out. I guess that is part of my problem. I want to go to the beach and smell the salt in the air. That always helps,

Katie, I am glad your friend will be closer. It always helps to have a friendly face( or ear) close by. When you brown bag the kitchen wall, are you painting with the brown bags, or using them as cover?

Welcome Back Dave! I know you will have lots to catch up on but this is much more fun. I can't wait to see the pics from BG.

I am going to try to get in the greenhouse today. Even though I am not keeping it real warm everything seems to be ok except for my 1 little star fruit tree. I am just giving everything the minimum water because I don't have any way to get rid of the excess, but I am afraid this little tree might need more.

Sharon, I haven't seen the black petunia! I may have to check it out. I have only received 1 seed catalog so far, but that may be because I quit ordering seeds a couple of years ago. I must need to remedy that. time to shop for seeds. LOL like I needed an excuse.

Jnette are you still snowed in?

Lee? still covered?

I am not doing any particular color schemes this year. I am just kind of trying to re-organize some areas in the yard that can be put to better use. I began filling part of my yard with azaleas and things in spots and now I have decided that those need to be in borders and then I can use the space for some different varieties I want to try. I may just redesign the whole side of the front yard. LOL Maybe that is why things don't bloom out there.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Katie, what is "brown bag the kitchen wall"? Is it a local thing? A title of a song? (that was Bob's suggestion) take pictures I might like it.

Bob wants to know if you were born in Mexico, I told him no you are a transplant. If I am right, where from?

So sorry about your ear. That really hurts. Have you seen a dr. about it? If not get to one. My mom used to put warm oil in our ears when we were kids. Don't remember if it helped or not, but I have used a heating pad on a painful ear and it helped.

Sharon, walking and hearing could be connected in Vern. Possibly a problem with the inner ear? Don't you guys love the diagnosis you get on here? Speaking of which, I was having terrible leg, foot, and hand cramps at night. So painful it would keep me awake and have to get up some times. Well, the dr was going to schedule me for an MRI looking for blood clots I think.

Well, I was telling my sister yesterday about it and she asked if I was taking Evista, which I am. She and another sister were having the same problem and quit taking Evista and no longer have the problem. I googled Evista side effects and that is one of the problems with it.

So, I have an appointment with the dr. this morning and copied the Evista side effects to show him, am canceling the MRI request and quit taking it so we will see.

So see, it pays sometimes to discuss these things with other people. Besides drs. Can't expect them to keep up with everything. Especially all the new drugs hitting the market daily.

Well, gotta go shower and start moving. ttyl,

There are a couple of threads on brown bagging on the Treash to Treasure forum. Or you can google brownbagging - bonnye manning. She has develped the techniques which I'm using. It can be done one part at a time and then left until you're ready to do another part which is great for me. My walls are concrete block and the brownbagging gives them a leather look. Bonnye has pictures as does Wuvie who is a member here and has posted a lot about it.

I was born in upper Michigan, almost in Canada. Long snowy winters. I've been working my way south for some years, finally ended up here. I think this is my last stop but who knows.

Good news - I got outside and did some work with my home made earth boxes. Getting back into the mind set of doing what I can and not nagging at myself about all that is not done.

I was thinking that while I have always had zero tolerance for physical abuse, I can get into and stay in relationships that are mentally abusive. They are often so much more seductive. A litttle criticism there, a little there and gradually I''m in the pits of depression without understanding why.

I'm going to make some pea soup. Good chilly weather food.

Good afternoon:
sorry the day got away from me so it will be another day to change to new version.
Katie - I think I saw where they did a treatment like that on trading spaces. it was cool looking

Linda stay in bed it will wait. no sense hurting yourself more.

well I spent the am finalizing my plug order for spring. I had to scale it back a bit as my budget was cut but i will add more later on. for some reason I think not doing hanging baskets might be a good thing. Most of what I cut out was the small trays that just did not make sense except for cutting stock and I think I can build that slowly anyhow.

well its nap 30 so i will be back on tomorrow. hopefully to post pics and details of the trip

LOL, you old bat JB. Love the hairdo or is it a hat? Hard to tell. Very cute tho.

I will have to look Katie. Sounds interesting.

Katie, realizing your problem is the biggest wall to get over. Sounds like you have made it. Just need to work on being suspicious. LOL

You will have to let us know what your plug order is Dave. I know it is not easy to pack those things for mail. A real b**** is my feeling. Sorry Dave, you haven't been here to keep us, JB and I, in check so we have to get back to watching our language.

Hear me JB???

Tony is going to Santa Rosalia today to see if they can fix the valves on his car.

I am up early again and we have cloud cover so it's not as cold as it's been.

I know you will all get back at me for this next summer when the heat is overwhelming but I have to tell you that my apple tree and a couple of aloes are blooming.

We seem to have more birds than usual and I wonder if they are traveling up from the south. I'm not much of a bird watcher. Well, I watch them, especially the hummingbirds but I'm not good at identifying them.

Got two tomatoes planted into home made earth boxes yesterday. Don't know if I'll get any tomatoes before the heat sets in.

Put some seeds in the paper towel packets recommended on another thread. I have lots of old seeds and this may be the besst way to go about checking which, if any, are still viable. Tony's wife's parents have recently moved to a new ranch/farm and can probably use any extra plants I get.

My ear is much better. If it starts to hurt I can wiggle my little finger in it and it pops and feels. I may try some warm oil if this persists but the two weeks of constant pain is over.

One of these days Tony and I will hook up the trailer and go to the dump for tires and dead pal trees. When the trees are dry we can pull them apart (making ape noises) and put them through the shredder. The ones that aren't dry get put on the arroyo to help suild up the oil or hold it so we can put in plants and not loose all our soil to our occational torrential rains.

My other news to make you green with envy is that I bought a kilo of fresh jumbo shrimp the other day for less than $20. Cooked them up and they are chilling.

Think I will work in my outdoor plant room (gated to protect things from the dogs) and get little pots ready in case any of my seeds germinate.

About the time your lovely spring weather arrives our hot and humid summer arrives and we go into survival mode. We (Tony and I) are sort of in that now but more due to other factors. Yesterday when I mentioned going to the dump I added that we won't do it until we both feel a lot more energetic. He was visably relieved. There is always lots of clean up and relatively easy new work to be done. One of the best things we do for each other is to accept ourselves as we are and not sweat the small stuff.

Life is definately improving. And I can pay Geico on-line without an ATM card. Doon't have to try to reach them by phone.

Off to a new day.

hugs, katie

Good morning campers:
well i seem to be doing a bit better today and I will try to get the new thread going in a few min.....

we have our 1st real cold front coming this weekend and its going to be nasty. they are talking single digit lows and wind chill of mzero and below that. but little to no accumulation just rain/freezing rain , go figuire.... everyone was watered outside well on tuesday when I got up. I knew they would need their moisture and I don't want to loose anyone because of being too dry.

I am still trying to get the house back in shape so I can coast the rest of the cold period and be ready for spring planting. my little plant room is in a bad way as its been just shove the empty boxes in there and seal with it later. well its time to deal as i want to get some seeds going

well thats about it on the news here

the pic is of a topiary they had done i really was impressed with the plantings of them they just seemed to be very fresh and looked like new plants... but I guess its from the cold snap. I am sure they lost a bunch of plants. the umbrella scheffarilera's were burnt down 3 - 4 ft from the top. its funny how a house plant can get so large. they were at least 15 ft if not 20.

next post will be the move

Katie, what are pal trees? How much is a kilo of jumbo shrimp? (yes, I am green with envy. Shrimp are one of my favorite seafoods. next to oysters) Please post a picture of a tire wall.

Dave, those were in Florida right? The scheffarileras that burnt? How low did it get there? I know it hurt a lot of the citrus etc. crops, never thought about house plants. LOL, what we consider house plants. It is always a shock to see pictures of plants we consider house plants in their natural setting. They are huge.

My daughter took pictures of plants in Hawaii that we have in 6 inch pots. Very weird.
