OMG.... If I am FIRST! Then it is a FIRST !!!

Baton Rouge, LA

Wow - Need to buy a lottery ticket...

Well I have scanned every post...albeit it has been difficult... We are still in Florida and I brought the wrong glasses... so I tried to read through quickly last night everyone's posts and tonight's posts ....as it was blurry and my head started hurting...

I do remember Betty's post... re: Louisiana... and I suppose the answer is that perhaps in other areas they are suffering with the bad economy... however in Baton Rouge.... ours has been unusually good. I attended a luncheon with the lead speaker being a well respected LSU Economics Professor... he explained the many reasons why... however too much to go into here... (if I did remember it all !)

Debbie - "What Betty said above" Agree ! Take care of Debbie please ! If I CAN go on Strike... YOU Can too LOL

Hugs to all... I miss you all ... it's been a hectic and quick visit...but I am glad DH and I are here....

Leaving tomorrow to drive 300 miles back home...

Will try to check back...

Hugs,
Mary

OH MARY...SO not fair this time of night for being "first" bragging rights! lol

I would stay and chat...but I am grounded and going to bed! lol

I hope everyone has a good night, sweet dreams

Debbie

Verona, ON

You are right Betty this sleep thing is highly over rated - as I say that with a envious voice of those who can sleep!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hi Mary, waving to you and your family..are you enjoying your visit? Guess tomorrow it will be a long ride home. Now tell us, are you alone or did some of the family decide to keep you company? hope so...

Debbie, did they tie you to the bed, about the only way you'll stay and rest I'm sure..lol

Dianne, not sure if asking Dr. for sleeping pills would help.
Guess with everything going on today my mind is in a thousand places so might as well be productive if I'm just going to lie there and sulk.

I'm on my 3rd greenery arrangement, congratulating myself that I decided to do them early and keep between the outside door and inner door where it's cold and out of the snow, that way in a few weeks I can add roses and baby's breath and they'll be just as fresh but won't have the mess to contend with..

I'm sure if the neighbors are up they'll shake their head..ran out of cedar, so in jammies and 11:30 at night I'm out cutting bottom limbs off my tree..a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do right?

So what are you doing to take away insomnia?

Baton Rouge, LA

Debbie - It's Rare when I get the chance... so I'll take "Bragging rights" when I can LOL! Nitey Nite gal... get some good sleep !

Dianne... I'm wired from traveling....seeing family ....so understandably can't sleep but I wish you could if you want to get to sleep !

Have you tried Tylenol PM?

I will be up for a bit.... How have you been ?

Hugs,
Mary

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Betty...

What are the arrangements for ? I've read above but it's all a blur...

Had a NICE albeit Short visit with sister and Dad.... met niece's "in-law's" To Be... and her fiance... Nice guy...

It's just DH & I... better that way. The teens all had work scheduled... MIL is watching the "house"... It has been a great trip...

Brb ...
Mary

Verona, ON

Couldn't agree with you more Betty. No point in laying there in the bed wide awake, that just makes me even more antsy.Over the years doctors have Rxed me sleeping pills but I am hesitant to take them.
I just get up, clean as quietly as I can and then sit by the woodstove and read - in the summer I go sit on the dock.
Glad you are having a good time Mary and your DH went with you.
All this talk of turkey made me wanting some so I roasted a chicken today.Missed the stuffing though!

Verona, ON

Oh Mary I am so glad you and DH got away together.Did you have a Thanksgiving dinner with your sister and dad?

Victoria Harbour, ON

How wonderful for you Mary..nice to get away just the 2 of you, thank goodness for some MIL's right?

Mary I set out about 4 or 5 Christmas greenery arrangements and usually give between 8-10..ran out of oasis, bought 12 and found 4 and now no more..lol

I brought down one of those plastic drawer towers and set inside the laundry room, running out of storage so guess it's time to purge but in the meantime, have sewing projects, blocks, fabric sitting on the back table and I need to be able to move it over so I can do the boys snowmobile dickies on the knitting machine, can't find it right now for fabric, so like you Dianne I'm working quietly, not sure why as I'm the only one here, am sure though the furries appreciate it.

Watch me fall asleep tomorrow at jewelery class..

Baton Rouge, LA

Awe ! Thanks Dianne !
We did have Thanksgiving with Family at Mil/Fil's house..

We left Friday morning and drove here and met at sis's In Law's house to meet Niece's new folks...and have dinner..

We met Sis today for some shopping and then Dad & his wife for lunch... then back to sis house...

I REALLY needed to see "MY" Family.. (I KNow... MIL/FIL treat me like family ... I can't complain... just needed some historic family LOL)

Are the loons gone this time of year ?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - Thanks for worrying about me, I appreciate it - took some ColdFX Just In Case - a bit of a cough and scratchy throat, but sure it's from climbing all those stairs to people's homes, in the frosty air and being tired.
I've had a couple of cups of hot tea, and took the ColdFX, now off to bed. Need to be at the church at 9:30 to put up some banners....... and tie up a tree we have that's dropping lol

Good night all - sleep well, and hope you get a good night's sleep, Betty!!

Baton Rouge, LA

Betty -
Niece's "Soon to be" MIL... is from Quebec... then they moved to Connecticut... I asked her about their Thanksgiving dinner... very interesting the differences... and similarities...

Example... she said they have a sliced Sweet potato.... but they don't do Pecan pie and we do... she said we all do green bean casserole..

I told her how I miss mashed potatoes & Stuffing ... from Florida. In Louisiana they do "dirty rice" (rice with ground beef).... then DH tells me we had eggplant dressing at Thanksgiving too... well news to me... it was delicious though !

Hugs,
Mary

I don't know if Ya'll can view this.... but it is a movement for Wednesday, December 1st to be a

"Pay it Forward" day....

If you have seen and love the movie "Pay it Forward" then you understand this... if not... just know it is a day to "Pay Forward...not backward....a Favor"....

Help a neighbor... Help a child... help a stranger.... the suggestions on the website are such that require money however there are many ways to help someone that don't require money... Just a friendly smile can be shared...

I am 100% behind this and I hope many folks will join in and spread the word...

((HUGS))

Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Try my best every day to 'pay it forward', I've survived some pretty hard times only through the kindness and generosity of others..will definately celebrate that day and thanks for the link.

Thanksgiving is turkey/stuffing, mashed potatoes, turnip, cabbage rolls, tortierre and couldn't be thanksgiving without cranberries and pumpkin pie...here I am, only had an egg sandwhich today and you are all talking turkey, hmmm have one of those t.v. dinners I made, maybe that's what is missing for a good night sleep, full tummy!

Susan, rest well, hope the cold fx helps..

Well, finished the 4 containers of greenery, all that remains are the flowers and bows..

Was going to clean up but going to try a few hours of sleep, if I can't well, know I have a cleaning project to keep my busy!!

Night all

Wow I went to bed and awoke to a bunch of chatter.
I had a ruff day .But I will get over it.
Pay it forward is an awesome idea but should be done everyday. Kindness is free.
Betty those centerpeices are beautiful. I bet Ann enjoyed being with you.

Hope all enjoy the long weekend.
Have a great day.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, Laura hope today is a better day for you, seems holidays play with emotions..

Been up since 5:20 but did have a good sleep for 3 hrs...so guess if you add all the 2 and 3 hours, I've had a good nights rest.

Getting ready for yet another adventure, Darlene will be here at 8:30 and off to Barrie we go. Apparently the glass sagging of a jewelery set won' take but a couple of hours, it's the firing in the glass kiln that will take up most of the time, we can either go shopping or I can pick up our pieces tomorrow on my lunch hour.

Not sure if Dannie will come with us, she's been tending her dying father in Montreal for the past 2 weeks, am sure her hubby and 3 boys are anxious to keep her by their side..she home schools and although MIL did the program they sure did miss her..hope she comes but if she doesn't both Darlene and I will do her piece or pieces, not quite sure what we're doing.

Coffee is on, store bought lemon cake, I know, if I stayed up one of those 2 hrs I could have baked fresh..lol

Gab with you all later, do enjoy your day..let's start early and pay it forward today!!!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

OK-so help me with the thread issue please. I have changed the foot, rethreaded the needle, made sure the needle was in right, reset the stitch, everything I could think of. What is happening is that it looks like one long thread with the bottom thread that is looping over it. When I looked in the manual it said when that happens the top tension is too tight, so lower the number, I did that and it didn't happen. So advice is welcome-help me please!!!

Susan-if it is the bobbin, what am I looking for and what do I do??

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Stacey sounds like a mess, which is why I don't sew, I enjoy painting much much more. Dave cleaned and now I can't find that rag quilt kit thingy I have. grrrr I'll find it and tell you exactly what it is.

Betty we have a leaf blower, but it was out of gas and it's a 2 cycle motor and Dave didn't have any gas/oil mix for it and I don't know how to mix it. He's here all day today so I'm thinking that I should use the blower and he should use the rake today. It's 3/4 of an acre we have to blow/rake.

Well I'm going to go start a project, I really need to clean this bedroom, there's fur everywhere!

Lyndonville, NY

Good morning,

Dang, you all had a party! Look at you all little "chatty cathy dolls" all night! Betty you were up late!

Love the arrangements, looking beautiful.

Mary, so happy you went to your sisters! You are making great things happen, and DH has shown up for you twice. Pat that man on the back big time.

Stacy, I am no help with sewing machines sweety, my Hubby is the sewing machine man here...and sets mine up for me. Anything needs done, the kids take it to dad.

I am up, I am moving....don't ask for more. I "rested" more so than usual yesterday, but not seeing great improvements. I have had 2 full days of antibiotics, been drinking liquids....and cranberry juice....but am still so full of fluid. Still taking diuretics also. He is supposed to call tomorrow with test results ONLY IF the meds I have wont' take care of whatever the culture shows. IF it will take care of it, just keep taking.

DH is at the Buffalo Bills game with his 3 brothers....having a tailgate party and cooking in the parking lot. And it is COLD out there. They do this once a year. Tim buys everyone tickets as Christmas gift so the boys have a blast. DH is always the designated driver. lol

Well, going for a cup of coffee.....will be back in a bit. I have been banned from the computer chair for long periods sitting. I noticed that really isn't helping. Just Mike & I home right now....kind of nice.

Debbie

Lexington Park, MD

Stacy take out the bobbin and try putting back follow the directions. This happened to me not so long ago and it was the bobbin not threaded right in the little metal catch in the casing.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Stacey I found it!! It's an "Easy to Make" Shaggy Quilt Blanket Kit, it has
25 print fleece 9"x10" rectangles
24 solid color #1 fleece 9"x6" rectangles
24 solid color #2 fleece 9"x6" rectangles
Finished size is 51"x58" including outer fringe
It has instructions and a diagram and tells you what rectangles go where. I was going to give it to someone for Christmas last year but I don't have any family or friends who sew, so now I don't know what to do with it.

Debbie you have a good day and get more rest and keep drinking those fluids! Dave's outside raking wet leaves so I guess I should get out and help. Wish he would let me use the blower gggrrrr

Oh Betty! Somewhere you asked how my visit with my mom went, it went really well actually, she wasn't the one arguing, my step-dad was. The man would argue with a sign post and he wouldn't leave Dave alone, no matter what he said Lynn had to top it somehow. It got to the point Dave just quit talking, and when Dave quits talking there's something seriously wrong! Me and mom had a very good conversation, part of the story I had heard before and part I hadn't, didn't know that my grandfather was an alcoholic, and I didn't know that my grandmother met him in a bar. Mom is in so much pain it's ridiculous, her leg is still partially numb from the surgery in Santa Monica, her broken foot still hasn't healed completely, and she's just a mess and can't do anything without causing more nerve pain. I feel bad but there's nothing I can do.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, bet Dave won't rush to visit again, sorry he didn't have much of a visit but on the other hand you got to see your mom and see how she's physically doing. As for you kit, you can send it my way and after Christmas when I'm looking for something to do I'll do it for you! Have a leaf blower as well but not gas so don't use it, perhaps I'll have to invest in one, could blow all the leaves into the back forest.

Stacey, did you finally get your sewing machine going? Sometimes also if you use wrong needle for fabric you are sewing or different thickness of threads..just grasping for possible fixings.

Debbie, glad to see you are listening, I'm sure it will take longer than a few days for your body to start healing due to your resting, feet up, good book and rest!

Just got back from my glass sagging class, made 2 pendants and matching earings for both, Darlene and I could have waited in town to see end results but decided we'd come home.

Because Darlene did an extra piece and I did the earing as extra's we decided that I'd pick them up Wednesday seeing as Angie won't get to fire until Tuesday..

Usually I purchase something for the girls who paint here so bought extra of the specialy glass and took it home, might sit down tonight if I don't fall asleep and design 6, could drop them off tomorrow and Angie could fire them at same time..

Loved all the pendants Angie had done, stunning colors and effects, although you design each one you just don't know how or if they turn out lol so there will either be some ahhhh's or awwww..

Darlene picked me up extra early this morning, was amazed to see that Michael's was already open so I stopped there and bought a few skeins of wool to finish the afghan that mom gave me the wool for and 4 frames, might take some patterns to work with me tomorrow and do a couple of wolves for my godson and cousin I was raised with..as you can see I say I'm almost over and something else comes to mind.

Got to tell you it's been quite the weekend!!!

Guess you are all trying to get over your long weekend, hope it's been the best for you...

Maggie, you home?

Bev, Shirley, if you get the change could you post so we know how you are all doing? sending hugs and prayers..

No sooner got home and decided to cut out Julie's rage quilt, all blocks are cut, not sure if I'll start sewing, might make note of how many of each color I have and make a design, that way when I am ready to sew I'll have a game plan.

Had Greg pick me up some materials but as it happens he got the wrong material..drats..

Victoria Harbour, ON

These are the colors I'm using for Julie's rag quilt..hoping there is enough that I can add and possibly make Melanie one..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Lexington Park, MD

What kind of fabric do you use for a rag quilt Betty?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Flannel..the one on the left is from Joann's, when doing the design I'll use it twice in between the plain blocks..was smilling to myself awhile ago, I bought an accuquilt and the rag cutter dye and have been doing the ragging by hand, could just hear Roger going on and on about a piece of equipment I so wanted and there it sits..lol

Just going upstairs for a bath and then I'll do my design before I fade..

What is keeping you busy today Laura?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Guess we're all busy little elves..looked in the freezer and saw I still had roast beef t.v. dinners that I had made so had one, lordy just like a home cooked meal..think over the Christmas break I'll spend a few days cooking just so I call do t.v. dinners..imagine, me cooking..lol

I'm fighting sleep because I know if I have a nap I'll be doing the midnight shift again.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Pays to clean out bags, trying to organize a few project bins and what did I find????

Recognize it any of you? gathered and sewn.. at this point I must have gotten tired of Victorian Santa's lol

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty would you consider sending me directions for a Victorian Santa? You did that project the year before I joined DG and I've so admired what everyone made. I'd love to try one..... Just me though, not Sean......
Here's Sean and his project for this year!!!

Lyndonville, NY

OHHH That is so cute with Sean! He did a great job!

Well, I sort of rested. Ended up pulling out some Christmas totes. Michael helped me so much and did the climbing and lifting for me. So it is a start and I can handle most the rest by myself til putting the tree up. However, my "assistant" of the furry kind....is really not helping much!

Thumbnail by DebbiesDaisy
Victoria Harbour, ON

Tomorrow Barb I'll go back into the thread when we did it, step by step instructions..if you want me to pour a couple of faces for you I can???

Sean is so proud of his work of art, bet he loved spending time with you doing it!

Debbie, did the doctor say you could semi-rest? lol
Ahhh my Riley is identical to your furry

Well, know it's not a good idea but I'm off to bed, not going to sleep, taking some quilting books with me..I'm aiming for 8:00pm..lol

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Stacey - it may not just be that the bobbin is incorrectly threaded - check for lint, especially if you're sewing fabric that's full of lint, like felt, or fleece. That will not only cause it to jam & stop, but is really hard on your machine.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All;

We are Back home.... yes - pay it forward should be every day... Hoping the 12/1 movement will help teach folks "new to the idea"... they had about 29,000 "agree" to participate this Wednesday... not much... but much....

Betty ... Your arrangements are gorgeous ! and Barb... Sean is so precious ! it's so much fun when you can get the kids to join in on traditions and crafts... they pull the decorations out for years to come and are so proud :)

Debbie ... yes - i was gonna say Riley's twin. Boy do you take GREAT pics... that pic would make such a cute Christmas card....

Crissy... sounds like we owe our DH's HUGS for putting up with family..... DH is pretty laid back...but he did mention on the way down how Sis's FIL always does the "Cajun" joke thing around him... he chimes in too... but I'm sure it's a bit excessive and I noticed it for the first time.

DH will be the "first" to tell a Cajun joke....but ...poking fun at one's self is one thing...

yes - Deb... you are right... I owe Dh a hug... I did treat him the whole time... he paid only for gas... it was a great visit...

Hugs Laura, Crissy & Stacey... brb... DSD2 needs this computer for something....

Mary

Debbie has Lee seen that pic of Axle? She will flip over her 'godson'.
~~~~~ to everyone.
Dianne
Victoria Harbour, ON
Morning, coffee is on and Rose brought muffins from her father's muffin/coffee store, blueberry, apple and carrot cake, help yourself, I am..
(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)
Susan-I already cleaned it out.
Betty-I am using the needle Mom had in it that she put in for quilting and it is still sharp-I checked.
Laura-I did fix that and it seems to be helping, now I will play with the tension to see if I can get it right;) Betty uses mainly flannel for her rag quilts, and I have used both cotton (with a muslin batting) and flannel. I like both, just depends on what I am doing....I am doing a Xmas one right now and they didn't really have very nice Xmas flannel, so this one is in cotton....
Crissy-do you have a pic of it?? Glad you had a good visit with your mom.
Barb-Sean did such a great job!! His scene looks great! Did you ever see my note on the diaper bag and how much everyone always loves it??
Thanks for the machine help everyone!! My mom said Santa might put a new maching under the tree for me next Xmas;)LOL
Lexington Park, MD
Oh Betty I got an apple muffin so good Thank you.
Coffee is good today.
Our high is 50.
