Debbie read an article on lowering blood pressure with hot cocoa
Says:
People with high blood pressure are more likely to have a heart attack when it gets chilly, says German scientists. Turns out, their damaged arteries are prone to spasms that can hinder blood flow to the heart! The delicious news:
Drinking one 12 oz mug of hot cocoa daily can lower your blood pressure four points, according to analyst in five studies..that small change is enough to reduce your rist of a winter heart attack by 10%
Bought Woman's World to read, said something about the Holidays...oh/oh, USA magazine so all the articles are on Thanksgiving
Best/Worse/What did I learn/chat about our day!Just Gab'n
I'm first?!?!?!
Joyce - congratulations on the news about your becoming a Nana again!!
Good for you that you've heard why they hadn't contacted you re: the job!!! That's promising!
No, I haven't heard from anyone regarding my interviews etc. It's been since Nov 2nd since my last interview, and Nov 3rd since they contacted my 3 references.
I've applied for 2 other positions since then, cuz I have NO idea what's happening with the first position.
Susan, do you know it's 58 degrees here and it's only 10:30..yikes, hope your snow and ice is gone and you are getting the same...
phone went dead again, soon you'll be thinking I do it myself..but no..could have stayed gabbing on the old one though
Good morning to all. It is sunny but only about 57 out right now. SEWING like a made person so much to do and then I think up more to do. I think I will make a list and first come gets done.
Oldest DD bought a used van. Found out it is leaking radiator fluid and a crack somewhere.....Hard lesson to learn when she has worked so hard saving money to purchase . It has a 30 day warrenty so waiting for them to pick it up....
That's ok, Betty - it was time for me to get off the line, anyway. I called Jaye for a minute (literally) afterwards just to find out how she was doing - she's fine.
Betty - picturing you speaking on your old-fashioned phone made me smile. I suppose it's a wood frame on the wall, with the black mouthpiece attached and the earpiece on a cord - really an old-timey phone!! I didn't think they could get one of those working as well!
Unless we get at Major Chinook, we won't be losing the snow anytime soon siiiiiigh.
Well, I'd best get to working on my mom's quilt. I learned that my family thinks it's OK if I tie her quilt to minimize the look of the squares not matching up. I have some navy blue embroidery floss that should do just fine.
Good thing there's a 30 day warranty! Is this from a dealership - will she be able to pick out another from them or is it privately sold? I hope she gets another one soon, and a Good one this time!! Thank goodness for warranties!!!!!!!
Susan - love the recipe. Will try it today or tomorrow. DH is in horrid pain with his teeth and you know how they like to be coddled. That's OK he was so good to me when I was ill for so long there is nothing I wouldn't do for him.
Gotta run the wood stove is needing a stoke. Hey Debbie that hot cocoa out on my dock with the loons wasn't such a bad idea I guess. My BP surely went down but I never knew if it was the cocoa or the communing with the loons.
Dianne
LOL Judy, I've thought about that but it would raise the electric bill way too high. Something needs to be done though, it's way cold in there in the winter and way hot in there in the summer. That bedroom is built different than the rest of the house, vaulted ceilings with a big window, the other rooms have normal ceilings with normal windows so that's probably why as it is part of the house. I was also thinking about one of those electric fireplaces...
I'm at work, Tiga's going to the vet at 9 in the morning, gonna try to get Dave to go with me so he can bring her back home and I can head up to work after that, otherwise I have to take her 20 minutes to Benton, then take her 20 minutes back home, then drive right back up through Benton to get to work, I don't want to do all of that. I should just have Dave take her but I'm kinda attached LOL
They will probably fix the problem at no charge. Love the warranties!!
Think Dianne it was a bit of both...when they say cocoa, do you think it means any hot chocolate?
Sorry to hear your hubby is not feeling well, problems with teeth can be painful..has he an appt. with dentist?
Susan, yes that about describes the telephone, a friend who worked at Northern telecom brought it in and they revamped it so I could use it..kids get a kick out of it and yes wall mounted so I'd have to stand in one place while be gabbed..would imagine people in the olden days were telephone gabbers or they'd have thought up something more practical..lol
Laura that is a hard lesson to learn..luckily it happened before the warrantee ended. Have to wonder if sometimes they sell these vehicles knowing the problems but hoping they'll make 30 days..will the repair or will she get her $$$ back to purchase another..heartbreaking I'm sure..
Congrats Joyce!!
Crissy, let's hope Tiga gets meds to make more comfortable..
Friends have the high vaulted ceilings here and heat rises to the top and when visiting always cold even though they've a fireplace on..you feeling better today?
Spoke to both my boys this morning, almost had a heart attack, Jeff was driving to work and called to tell me he had picked up my Christmas gift for him and enjoyed playing with it and hoped I didn't mind the empty box he'd put under the tree to represent my gift..lol..then out of nowhere he let out a screem..wasp bit him in the neck..yikes when I heard him screem yell, thought maybe he had an accident..
Both he and Greg came up with something I can get the boys, there is a new attachement for the xbox...called kinect..will buy one for Greg's boys and one for Jeff's boys and each a game to go with it and that will be that..all done..
Are you all excited about Thanksgiving..special plans..look forward to hearing about your festivities and family, lordy you must be bored with mine...
Hello Stacey, what are you and Jonathan up to today..still working on those projects..will Janice be coming up for Thanksgiving?
I'm sure they are meaning hot chocolate
Hope so, remember buying cocoa and it taste like H*&l...
lol Betty - you need to make some chocolate syrup from the cocoa.
I remember making a quart sealer jar of it with water+cocoa+loads of sugar, keeping it in the fridge.... yummy whenever I wanted hot chocolate I would put 1/4 cup of milk in a pot, add a Tbsp or more of the syrup in. When it blended, I would slowly add milk, until it was hot enough, and blended. I usually made some for my brother at the same time.
mmmmm that brings back memories...
Thanks, Stacey!
Betty, Thanksgiving is the one holiday I don't have to cook or bake. We get to go to my daughters house and I only have to bring "something". still waiting to hear what she wants me to bring this year. I will be taking caramels, cashew brittle and toffee for sure, but something else too, or maybe two somethings....
Stopped at Lowe's to pick up peat moss so I could make some mushrooms and maybe a couple troughs today since it's so warm. Well, it was $11.52. I KNOW I paid $9.00 for it last time I bought it, so I left and went to Home Depot....wouldn't you know it...they were OUT. :o( So guess I'll run to the Lowe's close to my house and bite the bullet. Dang....
Why the difference Joyce, did taxes go up? Love your caramels..bet the family do as well..how wonderful for you to get to relax..tried to going to kids on Thanksgiving and Christmas but missed all the left overs..lol..so, back to my house it was. Actual Thanksgiving is Thursday so is that the day you will celebrate or will you hold off until the weekend..guess everyone has a 4 day weekend...
Keep thinking I should head south for Christmas, and NO not with Mom, if she accepted I'd ask a friend to go and her stay home and I bring everything back then maybe I'd do it..get a few days down south and who knows, maybe see who is within close proximity to I-75 and do have coffee..
Dang...... costs are horrendous, aren't they?
Usually Home Depot and Lowes are comparable in prices, that's ridiculous Joyce!
Don't know why they went up, except it was a different kind. Maybe it was finer or something...
We will celebrate on Thursday. Lots of people do it on the weekend though.
There's usually a big craft fair on the weekend of Thanksgiving and I've gone for the last few years. I'm planning on going this year, too and think that Bertie and another friend will join me, too. I would love to know if I've got an interview scheduled before then!
HEY! Don't forget I'm just one mile from I-75 and I've got a bed and coffee and everything!
When I lived in Winnipeg, I think Pembina Highway became I-75..... through the Dakotas?
I know where you live Joyce..lol..a skip hop and a jump..I'd be sure to call at least for coffee and a caramel..
That's right, Betty....you should come see ME!!! :)
I'll make a trip to Maggie's house!!!! LOL
I'll come...but I am NOT riding with Crissy again, and someone take the GPS from Betty! lol
Debbie - I just putt putt along.......no lead foot here. I do have GPS but like a map better!!!!!!
I looked up an address in Texas today on Mapquest, I had the full street address, city, state, And zip, it took me to southeast Kansas so I don't trust any of them. LOL
Crissy - I thought about Tiga today...saw an ad for cosequin...and remembered we gave it to our old dog for arthritis.... Is she taking that already?
Betty... take I-75 South.... hang a right at I-10 and I'm just a few (8-10) hours West....
Joyce your Grandboys are P-R-E-C-I-O-U-S... Congrats on the addition ! Think I might try some cashew brittle as well...
Betty - I can't tell if you said Jeff was okay... So they are 'playing' with your pressie? HM... maybe a wi game? a new pup? LOL....
Loons & hot chocolate lowering BP... I'll let Lance know.... Don't think we have loons here so Dianne will have to send some my way...
Susan... I hope you get offered ten jobs all at once then they will have to get in a bidding war over you ! :)
I'll be back in a bit...
Hugs,
Mary
Sounds like y'all need to take a bus. When you figure it out, let me know. I'll have coffee ready!
LOL That's tooooo funny, Crissy!
I know whenever I want to go east on my street (for driving) Google Map and Mapquest tell me to go west, north, west, and south THEN I can go east - when all I have to do is cross the meridian and turn left to go east........
Thank you, Mary - that's what happened 2 years ago, and I took the best of 3 jobs ^_^
Maggie & Crissy - When I hadn't been in the city too long, and I knew there was a church in our area (had been taken there when it was dark & late and didn't know how to get there by bus), I checked the Transit website to find out how to get there. It gave me directions to go downtown, transfer to another bus and take a whole 1hr & 1/4 to get there. I thought that sounded wrong when to drive there took my friends 10 min...... so I walked there and found it was a 15 min walk - less than a mile........!!! LOL
ROFL! I am direction dumb! I rely on my car GPS to tell me, but I also use the gps on my phone and I have a bunch of maps in my glove box. My stupid gps directed us to the SUMMIT of a mountain when we took Jared to camp a few months ago. We had no choice except to drive allllllll the way to the top and THEN turn around. And I still use that thing WHY???? I'll never learn.
roflmfao!!
No GPS here have HDC instead - for those of you who don't know that is Husband Directionally Challenged. Can be adjusted to all makes and modes of vehicles. Fortunately DH is a man WHO WILL ask for directions, however when he first started to us Mapquest he was "how can a computer be wrong" He no longer says that!
Time for coffee!
Dianne
Good morning all,
Coffee is on but I'm moving slowly today, still recouping from the weekend lol but no sweets, can share fudge though, ooops might have eaten it all..
Got home from work, all intentions of going outside to do a bit of work but Lordy, never saw it so dark so there went that plan..
No sign of Rose, door was shut and I didn't want to wake her if she was laying down, she often takes an hour nap after work and gets up when I arrive home so went about my business, had about 10 minutes to finish Ann's afghan, layed on the chesterfield and woke up at 10..must have needed the sleep, then about 11:30 I heard Rose taking a shower, asked if she'd been to town and she said no, had a bad headache and had been sleeping since she got home at 4:30..hope it's gone by this morning..
Garbage day, going to look in some drawers and throw some things out..if I do it fast I won't have time to go back in the bags and bring it all back in..now who needs about 10 bedspreads..always say I might use them, but not..
Now you gals have encouraged my travel bug, instead of finding santa on your doorsteps during the Christmas break you just might find a 'Betty' lol
Off for more coffee!
HDC...I love it!!!
Well I'm looking for a travelling companion and he's not more than 4 hrs. away from me, maybe she'll loan him out?
Be careful what you wish for Betty!! LOL
Sooooo, I finally did something right! Went to "our" Lowe's and the same bag of peat moss there was $10.15 instead of the $11.52...PLUS they had a broken bag....so 1/2 price! Got my peat for $5.15. Then hubby wanted me to run a couple errands with him and when we got back it was too late to get started on the hypertufa....sigh...oh well, now I've got it for next time.
