Yup, me too! I know how hard that must be to have to do this with your mom, but you do what you gotta do. Most families do rely on one sibling to do it all, I don't quite understand that but I probably wouldn't. lol
Best/Worse/What did I learn/chat about our day!Just Gab'n
It is the same in my family also. But I am not the one getting the calls. My father lives here in the area with step-mother.There is one brother here and he gets all the calls. I used to go over and take his grands but feel like outsider . They lead a seperate life now and have always told Dad I am here if he needs me I am but a call away. What do you do.........
Life goes on doesn't it..I so hope I don't do this to my boys..pray the Lord he'll find a spot for me before I get to this point..lol
Got everything done except change of Canadian $$ to US $$..might do that on my way home then all my worries are over..
Sometimes Rita brings her laptop, if she does, I can gab a bit..
Betty, is getting insurance a must when you cross the border? I have never bought insrance when going into Mexico! What does it cover? Hope it is not too pricey.
Actually LindaKay I get it from my regular insurance company, for 3 days it was $16.00 not worth taking a chance..not for illness but what would happen if we were in an accident..Our Ontario coverage only pays so much towards services in USA so the extra coverage I buy hopefully would make up the difference..I was talking to the insurance lady the other day and she was telling me even from province to province you should take out a policy, that I would not have thought of.
Today she prepared a plan for me because it seems to her I'm always over your side of the world, didn't read it but for a reasonable yearly amount you can pick travel for 4 days or 8 days and even 21 days where you pay, they give you a card and you can go anytime..will review it and go buy a plan next week..as it is now, if I decided to go on the spur of the moment I'd be without insurance unless a bank is open and could sell me a policy but the cost is substantial
Managed to get the tape, the insurance policy, the Ott-Lites and a take out at the Italian restaurant and still would have had time to change $$$ but didn't know if there would be a line-up so will go after work or pay extra premium at duty-free
Edited to say: still lots of things to do when crossing into foreign land even just for 3 days...wonder if the guys letting me through put up a fuss because of all the packages, can you imagine them making me open them up...headache city it would be!
This message was edited Nov 4, 2010 2:37 PM
Oh, I sure hope they don't make you open all those packages!
Have a great trip Betty!
lol I'd be there till at least Sunday opening and putting them back together..when Rita comes I'll get her to remove her and Suzanne's suitcases, I'll lay them all flat, put a blanket over them then put our suitcases..one can only hope they aren't interested in old ladies..
Now Betty, you know they will want to frisk all of you! LOL
Almost forgot, it would be worth it to have those young hunks do the hands on 'frisk' remember last time, my excitement of their pulling me aside to do so frightened them somewhat and rushed me across almost in convoy..lol
LOL Betty - "frisking" eh? LOL
Judy - Thanks for your comment on my APPLIQUED block (put that in, so you & I both remember what it's called). The stitches aren't invisible, and they're a little wide apart, but it was fun. It's really 3-dimensional, cuz I had to put 2 layers (for the tiny pieces) so I could stitch them down without frayed pieces coming out the underside....
I think if I did it again, I would do a simpler way, or get better paper to use for a backing, etc.
Naaaaaaah, I won't be doing this again - I have Far too many Other projects that are begging to be done..... some waiting for 3 years........

Judy - what's this block for? The Applique Crafty Christmas one?
You guys are doing lovely work, both hard at it..rush/rush/rush, pretty soon you will both be sitting wondering what to do?
Looking forward to going to Joann's, love taking my time going through all the depts.
Hope when I meet Debbie tomorrow morning she'll not be throwing popcorn around as someone might think that's strange!
Have a blast Betty. Give my sis Debbie a big hug from me!
Oh Betty...we should go to Joanns together! I can't STAND to skip a single thing in that place! I want to see and touch everything! Keith is a crappy shopping buddy....he aggravates me!
Someday hopefully we can.
Betty - I don't think I will EVERY be stuck without something to craft... just like U, m'dear!!
Going through the airport, I set off the alarms every time, because of my back and knee surgery. They make you walk through, and then stand on a mat, feet spread aprt, hands out to side with palms up, and I got frisked! Under the breast, up inside the legs, everything!!! It was kinda embarrasing, but there were lots of people getting the same treatment!
LOL can imagine you blushing like crazy..guess they have to do it and probably don't like to be doing it but safety is what's important..surely with everything they design you'd think there would be a better way..guess a lot of people complained about the x-ray system they were going to implement???
Maggie, one day, perhaps I'll get to shop with you..how close to I -75 are you???
As close as you want me to be!!! No really I'm only a few miles from it!!!
I have been trying to catch up on DG since 8am and I officially give up....
Crissy-Happy late Bday!!
Maggie-LOVE that pic of daddy and daughter!!
I have started a blog. This way I can post links in my posts here and those that choose to, can go over and read. I wanted to do something for Jonathan at a later date so I don't forget things. My BFF in France does one and I LOVE it!!
Here is the one I wrote today and on the R side under the heading November is the initial one I did yesterday.

MARY-now you will always have your Jonathan fix;)
Well, I'm off, shutting down and if Rita doesn't have her laptop I won't be gabbing until Sunday..
NO food fight please, and if you do, clean it up before I get home...
Love you all..
Love you Betty, have a safe trip!
Thank you Stacey!!
Love the blog idea, I've saved the website in my favorites.
My hand hurts again, guess I'm going to have to go to the darn dr and get some Celebrex or whatever they're prescribing now, these stupid 200mg Ibuprofen's aren't making a dent in the swelling.
night night everyone!
What swelling? What did I miss, Crissy.........
Oooo Crissy, how many of them do you take? I think you can take 3 at 200 mg. Any chance they can get you some naproxin? That helps great....if your not allergic, I am allergic. It helped my DD some when she had her leg surgery.....but she also developed an allergy.
Bye Betty...travel safely, I will see you in the morning!
OK, "moms" out of the room....fooooood fight! haha OK, I will behave...for now.
Shhhh Debbie ! Mom might still hear you ! (Tossing one kernel)......
Hugs to all.. we did have fun last night !
Ah ... Crissy & Betty... So sad for the Mom Stress..... In my family the kid always stresses out the Mom.... I did a REAL good job of it when mine was around... and DS is certainly doing a Great job of stressing me out......
Funny Betty - had Italian take out tonight too.... I'll have to remember to take you to this place WHEN you come visit.....
Maggie - scan back.... I had a question for you....
Stacey - the blog might be a good idea if you could save it from time to time... to keep in Jonathan's baby book as a momento...
Dianne - I have buds on almost ALL Of my hibbys but probably not such a good thing as we are expecting some colder temps... I wonder why ? (why they would bloom now?)
Oh LK - I would be Mortified ! (unless he was a cute security guard) JUST kidding...
Judy - we've had a LOT of babies this year... haven't we! Best wishes for Lupe...
Betty - again... what a wonderful costume....and you can tell how much he's enjoying it !
BRB...HUGS,
Mary
OK I have red licorice nibs and black licorice laces - ummmm that and popcorn sounds mighty good to me.DH is already sound asleep - been that way since 8:30 pm - yep we have a real wild nightlife.
Crissy get the celebrex and give it a whirl. Do you have a drug plan - because here it has gone up in price almost 200% in 10 years?Since I have both RA and OA my hands swell almost on a daily basis. Dr Death (nickname for my GP) told me about a soothing OTC cream called Volturen topical cream. It is wonderful!
Mary I too would have been mortified - sure glad it was LK and not me.I'd be so red they would probably think I was having a stroke! Glad you got home safely LK.
Any baby news Judy?
Hope Betty has an uneventful drive - it is a bit nasty out there tonight.
BBL
Dianne
Hello All !
Don't care much for licorice Dianne... but I LOVE Celebrex... LOL the one time I had back problems....it really was the cure all... didn't they take it off the market for a while?
How is Everyone tonight? How was your Week ? I can't believe it's Friday tomorrow.... (well... I CAN... LOL)
OoooOooh...I like red licorice...especially red shoestrings. LOL
My DM used to eat black licorice by the bags...I can't even stand the smell of it.
Well, ya'll did me in. DH was so worried about dinner....he cooked. Must have been afraid exactly what I would create tonight. He used my leftover chicken from the other night and made chicken and buiscuits...it was really good.
going to be shortly so I can get up and on the road soon as Shane is off to school and see Miss Betty! She is in for a cold weekend...snow predicted! Ewww...I am allergic. lol
Sweet dreams....tossing the popcorn and RC your way! **** c{-}
Mary they didn't take Celebrex off of the market here in Canada just the other pill which for the life of me I can't remember the name.
Friday tomorrow, whoooo hoooo! I don't know what it is but DH and I still think of Friday as the end of our week and the weekends are for fun things. For several years my DH commuted every Friday from Toronto to here on the farm - it is about a 3 hr drive 1 way in the good weather. He had to go back and finish out his years or his teacher's pension would have been squat. He has been retired since 98 and even after all this time we both find ourselves checking the weather reports out for Friday afternoons and Sunday mornings.
The Hibiscus could bloom Mary, their "clock" could have been given some wrong messages. Nasty weather can do that!
We have a Tree Hibiscus (about 7' tall) at the church that I water, and it's looking very glossy green, however, I'm not sure if it will bloom. Any suggestions? I'm afraid I'd been neglecting it's watering and it was going bone dry to too long. Now I'm looking after it properly and watering it twice a week. Other than using fertilizer, is there anything else I can do to make it bud?
Debbie - Lucky you... Give Betty a huge HUG for me...
Dianne.., I DO see Friday as the end of the week.. just NO FUN when DH has to work the weekend... and I have to deal with the teens, the house..etc...
I'm thinking the nasty 15 year freeze last winter is having to do with the hibbys wanting to bloom late.. they've taken all year to grow to normal size..
we'll see.. and I WILL WILLWILL cover them up this year ''Ya'll SLAP Me if I don't !" !
Susan... I'm thinking a "Tree Hibiscus " is a Rose of Sharon.... we have a white one that is weak... it did bloom a few months ago... (remember I'm a beginner garderner so take it with a grain of salt as they say)
and having said that... WHY do they say that?
Hugs,
Mary
Take with a grain of salt
Meaning
To take a statement with 'a grain of salt' or 'a pinch of salt' means to accept it but to maintain a degree of skepticism about its truth.
Origin
The idea comes from the fact that food is more easily swallowed if taken with a small amount of salt. Pliny the Elder translated an ancient antidote for poison with the words 'be taken fasting, plus a grain of salt'.
OKay - here is the wikipedia explanation... (((HUGS)))
Mary - I suppose it could be a "Rose of Sharon". It was donated to the church eons ago (before I started) and I was told it takes a Huge amount of water. I've never seen it bloom, so don't know. I was thinking about getting my "grow light" and plugging it in next to it, to see if I could "force" it to bud/bloom.
Hey Susan ! ♪♫♪♫ ... SO... is it indoors or outdoors??
It's indoors. It sure wouldn't survive outdoors in Canada, during the fall or winter ^_^
Awe! I think Betty has a Rose of Sharon too.. so that would make sense...
Does this help ???
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/788/
really? too bad she's gone, and likely won't be posting until Sunday, unless there's a laptop she can use......
Okay - Going Night Night ! (((HUGS)))) Mary
