Best/Worse/What did I learn/chat about our day!Just Gab'n

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm trying to read what y'all have said and we're having heater problems, it's all electric and there's a box on the outside of the house next to the fan that connects up to the furnace part in the attic and whenever the furnace comes on it buzzes, really loud. Dave thought he had it fixed last Saturday when he cleaned the little box on the outside of the house but as of last night it's buzzing again. The thing is only 3 1/2 years old so it should be under warranty but Dave keeps trying to fix it himself, but he has no HVAC training. I keep telling him to just call the repair man, he keeps trying to fix it himself, if he does too much he'll void the warranty.

Lyndonville, NY

((((Bev)))) So happy you're home! Give us an update when you can....rest! REST REST!

Crissy, that doesn't sound good. Hope it is an easy fix!

Mary, that made me teary. I have three boys like that. You know Mike is here, Shannons BF...who is really more like a son. He gets so upset if I am upset with him. He really doesn't want an apartment, he wants to stay here, however he doesn't really get along with my DS and it has totally upset the "happy mojo" in the house. I think most of it is due to DD trying to be too bossy between the two of them. Mike just wants a family. Then, I told you all about Justin in the Army. And then there is my "hugger" Nate whos mom is an alcoholic, she hates him because he is a vegitarian...and just has his own "beat to the drum." He is a totally awesome kid, so talented...and so emotional. And then there is Kyle...who also "hides" here from his Dad. He was here over the summer quite a bit. I think all these kids really want is dinner around a family table...and someone to care "where" they are...and show interest. Some parents...quite a few I have seen here....don't have a clue and don't care. Have kids and let them raise themselves.

In an off note, did you know a "childs" brain is not fully developed until age 25. They are not "mature" until about that age.

Sorry...babbling. I am somewhat home alone as everyone is working but Shane, who is at a friends...but he has to be to work at Noon.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Bev, so glad to hear your home! Hope your surgery was very successful!
Debbie, you do have your handsfull! Wow. your kids, the neighbors kids! Bless you for taking them into your house!

Warner Robins, GA(Zone 8b)

I like it when you're babbling! My poor kids get annoyed because I'm constantly wanting to know where they are, who they're with, parents address & phone numbers, when they'll be home, and I ALWAYS make them stand in front of me for just a second to memorize what they're wearing. My 13 yr old thinks I'm insane. I know I am, but I don't plan on changing anytime soon! We're suckers for huge sleepovers around here. I'd much rather have 50 kids giving me a headache from their noise than to wonder what my kids are doing elsewhere.

Lyndonville, NY

Maggie, I am the same way. When my older two were little, they couldn't have friends over hardly at all. Shannon was on chemo, and we couldn't (per doctors orders) take a risk of bringing infection/germs into the house. SO, even after she finished that...I was still a bit "over protective" and took me a bit to throw caution to the wind.

Now, with DS being 17, and his "band", I can usually be found driving band equipments somewhere and transporting kids...mine or not. lol And, I wouldn't have it any other way. I have also learned that some kids...when their parents tell them NO about something. When they hear it from someone elses parent...with an explanation...they tend to understand their own parents more. Does that make sense?

Debbie aka Babbling Brook hehe

Warner Robins, GA(Zone 8b)

BEV ~ So glad you're home!!

It DOES make sense! I've had disagreements with my son and then ran to my phone to call my neighbor...."PLEASE talk to Jared!". It works. She of course didn't let him know that I called or that she knew what the problem was, but as moms, we know how to pick their brains.

I can't even begin to imagine how I'd be having a child with cancer. Bless your heart. You must have done everything right though.....she's 20 now???

Driving someone else's kids....hahahaha! I've said to kids, "Your mother might let you WALK, but I'm NOT! Now get in the car & fasten your seatbelt!". I used to get soooo mad at parents for letting their kids WALK at 40 below zero! How do they sleep at night??????

Lyndonville, NY

Maggie, Shannon will be 20 years on next Saturday the 13th. She is 16 years remission, we count our blessings even as we battle the long term effects/affects.

I agree 100% about "get in the car now, you're not walking". Betweent he cold here during winter...and also us living in the "country" it isn't safe for kids to walk home in the dark. "My mom lets me" doesn't fly here.

Warner Robins, GA(Zone 8b)

I wish some of us lived closer....Bev especially. :(

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

((((((((((Bev)))))))))) glad you're home - you get your full compliment of REST now, y'hear!! You'll have to put up with a whole bunch of "mommas" here who want you to feel at your best when you're healed.

Kids - speaking as a mom who raised 2 who are now in their 30s and seeing kids at the bus stop whining that they're cold when they have a light jacket and no sweater BUT it's not done up....... They're so frustrating, those "little ones" that pretend to be so grown-up and act like idiots when you know they're NOT!

Lexington Park, MD

Bev glad to hear you are back. Hope all it ok.
Debbie wow . I bet your "kids" are happy to have a place to go. To many times we hear about situations going on in houses(not homes) drugs, booze and just simply mean people.
Spent my morning at soccer games freezing my butt off. (wish it were that easy) we lost both games but kids had fun. I have a Hibiscus red blooms . Needs to come inside. Do not know the name.
Maggie I am the same way. School field trips worry me so. I will take a picture of my kid that morning just in case. It is sad that we have to think this way. But I feel the same way would rather have a house full and know what and where they are safe and sound.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I wish I knew who donated the Hibiscus to the church. It has dark glossy leaves, and leaves are almost heart shaped (except for the "dip" at the stem...... pretty much straight across) and the veins are very deep.
I'll have to take a picture so I can figure out the "genus". I haven't seen the flowers yet..... and no buds, but Man is it Healthy looking. Best it's looked in years!!

Warner Robins, GA(Zone 8b)

Good for Shannon! 20th birthday coming up....Happy Birthday!!!

Warner Robins, GA(Zone 8b)

Well, the Hubbs is home and "lighting a fire under my rear end"....gotta work on this taping/painting. Ughhhh. I'm thankful though.....I have a house and the Hubbs has a job to pay for it.

Have a beautiful day everyone!!!

Glenview, IL

Hi Everyone!

Wow, you all have such great conversation going on.

Bev, Giant, gentle arm wraps to you! So glad your home, Yep please just rest.

Stacey, you have gotten some real good Support! Lil Momma, don't beat yourself up. Babies don't come with instructions, you have learn as you go. And you are doing just that. Now, if you didn't question some of your actions or feel guilty then i'd worry, lol...Your whole world has changed and it takes a bit of time to readjust, so just take it as it comes. I hope that makes some sense.
I am glad you are keeping the Blog/Journal, I have read all of it so far. The photos are sweet.
...I am really glad that Maggie and you are able to talk new baby stuff.

OH Debbie, Sounds like Betty and Friends are having a ball!! So glad you were able to meet up with them.
Wow, you sure did some traveling...That is so sweet for the friend to come out just to give you a hug! I can definatley see why that would make your day.

Mary, That will be great when your other "son" comes home. I love that he converses with you on facebook!

Waiving Hello to everyone...Hoping you will have a great day.

Yesterday, DH pack stuff for the cottage. Then just continued mozying, cleaning up areas of the house...Whew we sure get cluttered up fast...My battery died so no wheels, DH jumped it but I didn't drive it, which i guess i should have...But Alissa let me drive her car. OMG, I haven't driven a car in years. LOL, felt like i was sitting on the ground, and her gear shift is on the floor. Took a few minutes to get adjusted..Jake has his second game today, Coach wanted all Sophs to get those White sox, so zoomed off to get those, drop them at school. Got home just in time to grab my first cup of coffee and phone ringing...Mumma, I kind of forgot my Jersey...lol, back in car again...

So noww i am back a gain, coffee and bowl of Oatmeal...Pretty nice out so thinking about Shagging Anthony up, said he'ld help me sift today! Game at 1:00.

Loved your Bests.

OH...Feed your Hibiscus A bananna shake! Lots of potassium there
Mary Very Proud of you New Gardener!!

See you in a bit.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, that is exactly how the "other kids" make me feel, like I am not a total looser of a mom...like my crew might say sometimes.

Still waiting for your banana story.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello All !

Yes - Deb - the ones we are most responsible for can be the most cruel !

Okay : Mary's Banana Story...

So yesterday I was working... and we're all supposed to sell more of this Christmas package... Well ... I'm behind on this project so I pull over to a shopping center to "Prospect"...
I'm parked which the engine off.. and thumbing through a local magazine.......

When ALL OF A SUDDEN.... a HUGE BANANA is pounding on my window !

Baton Rouge, LA

Frightened... I look at the huge Banana...

The Huge Banana opens his banana hood... and ... Dontcha know.... IT's DS !

Baton Rouge, LA

So.... DS explains to me that since he was behind on selling "additions" to the Smoothies at work...
His punishment for the day was to "Be the Banana"...

So having a "Teachable" moment...

I told him if I didn't sell this Christmas package... I'd "Be the Banana" as well...

(Hoping to cheer him up... I mean... How Many 18 year old boys do you know that want to stand on a neighborhood street corner as a Banana !)

((HUGS)) to all.... May you all NOT be the Banana Today !

Morning everyone!

Mary, that is so funny about the banana!
Dad is doing well, he does not want to be here. He wanted to stay in Washington! But we told him, we can't always have what we want in life!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

It may take a while Linda but I hope he will settle down. Did you receive the bird book from Betty? Maybe that will keep him busy a bit... It's hard I know --- I'd tell him it's for his health - that the cold wet rainy/snowy north is bad for him......
So glad to see you post Deb and I'm praying for a quick recovery for you....
I must go chek out the photos........

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Bev hope your strength finds you again very very soon!

LOL That's hilarious about the banana!

WELL Dave finally came to the conclusion that we need a repair man, maybe I'll come home to supervise, Dave thinks it doesn't buzz every time the heater comes on, but the heater doesn't always come on when the fan comes on. Maybe I can be here when the repair guy shows up.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL, Crissy...so now that it's HIS idea, it's okay.....MEN!

Verona, ON

LOL Crissy! Maybe you could leave the repairman a note...... I have gone so far as to talking to the repairman via phone while he is assessing the situation. My DH bless hIs soul is as mechanical as a grape.
Mary I could give you a great big hug. The banana story was exactly what I needed. How lucky you are to have a DS who would even let his mother see him in the costume let alone knock on her window. Related your tale to my DH and he just roared.Sure hope your DN does get to come live with you again - it sounds like he made some positive steps when he was with you before. Dontcha just love teenagers? Always used to say when I taught teens they needed a kick in the pants and a hug all at the same time.
LK I am sure your dad will adjust in time - it is so hard. My brother put mam in a nursing home without consulting me and she ran away. Long story, in the end it was comical but I felt so bad for mam as I knew she was hurting.
Stacey how are you doing today? You are doing a great job don't be so hard on yourself. I know being alone so much can cause all those "I am a terrible mother" thoughts to emerge and reveal their ugly heads. Trust your gut instinct! You need some sleep girl!!
Our 'Bessie' should be getting home soon. Excellent travelling weather at this end of the province, hopefully it is in hers. Can hardly wait to read all about her trip and her adventures.
Time to stoke the fires. Later!
Dianne

Hi Everyone!!

ROFLOL, Mary that is just too funny! So glad DS let you take a photo!

Can't wait to hear about Betty's trip too.

Linda Kay, wow, you must have been reading my mind! LOL, I was just thinking as i was raking I need to finish working on my Trip.
But now i will have to reread all that I've written...I will be done with the swaps soon, and the painting...I think for now the yard is done, unless we get some more nice weather.

OK, Banana Split for gardens...At least this is how I make em. Peel Banana, eat banana on toasted peanut butter bread, lol...Cut the peel in tiny pieces, place in blender filled with water to top. Blend until it's liquid, pour into ground around your plant...I feed my roses.

Football season is officially over...We lost the second game, and the sophs never got to be in the game. Jake is pretty glad, because its wrestling season, he already missed the first few practices...And I am real glad, lol can't afford another bottle of Oxi-clean!

Oh Julia needs computer.
Be back in a bit!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hello there, just got in... read all yours posts, want to comment but no energy to do so, will have all day tomorrow to chat..gave Debbie hugs from all of you and she gave me some in return..

Exhausted would not be the word I could use for how I'm feeling...shaking my head no/no/no!

We left here Thursday evening and didn't get to our hotel room until very close to midnight..I was so hoping they'd be tired out, nada, as soon as our bags were down I heard, 'let the shopping begin' so until 3:30 in the morning, then they were so wound up, like Debbie said, how we didn't get thrown out was beyond me..did think the attendant at the hotel saw what they might be up for and put us in an area that not many guests were given rooms...

You would think that going to bed at 3:30 a.m. we wouldn't be up and at it at 6:30am but we were..I started this trip being tired and in pain, but quickly I was told to 'forget about it and enjoy'

had breakfast and met Debbie at Christmas Tree Store at 9a.m. sure wish I'd have had more time for her and I alone but knew it would be one crazy weekend and Debbie, as always had a zillion things on her schedule..

Left the Christmas Store and by noon all the packagefor the workshop had been mailed...talk about a lovely lady at the post office, some of the parcels were to be put into flat boxes but quite a bit would be cheaper if they were sent as is..

Then off to the Christmas Shoppe, omg Debbie you just have to go there, talk about beautiful, high end but if you want a special piece then that is the place to go...

Was pouring rain when we got to Hamburg Craft show, I could tell it wasn't the type of thing the girls enjoyed, ended up leaving with 2 cookie cutters, imagine that, me at a craft show and not purchase anything..the pieces in primitive art were large and for the past 15-20 years all have been big pieces so I was asked to do something small this year sooo nothing said 'take me home' I was SOOOO SAD!!

Then off to do Daves Christmas store, it was lovely Debbie, girls purchased a few Christmas pieces both there and the Christmas Shoppe.. then it was off shopping until well after 10pm I believe..

Debbie, didn't find 1 thing at the craft show..imagine that, so disappointed..sooo it's into my books I go to find the project for my winter workshops although either next weekend or the next is the big Markham Craft show, about same size if not bigger than the Hamburg show..maybe it was because also none were into craft shows..

Got to our hotel room and the girls were at it again, all pumped up, NOT me, not my friend Rita, poor Rita, she needed sleep badly, me, took something for pain and slept right through their shannannigans...we had picked up something for supper, while they were getting it on plates I said I'd get comfy, put my head down and although they kept telling me din/din was ready, I slept..they were thinking up things though to do to me, lol, had to be on top of things..they did throw away my hair brush, my toothbrush and can't tell you what else..lol

Next year, think we'll get 2 rooms, one for the quiet and one for the rowdy girls..

Satuday morning up at 5:00 am and out of the door, had breakfast and didn't return until 10:30 last night..did manage though to have supper at Cracker Barrel and talk about laugh, the manager went by and he's the one Debbie and you all said most likely would be a good catch for me seeing as I so love shopping and eating there then managed Debbie to find Hobby Lobby, just love it, bought a lot of scratch art kit, didn't have a whole lot of time to browse but know I'll be back there for sure...

Back to the outlet mall and by the time we finished we were too tired to go out to eat so ordered pizza and wings..I could barely keep away to eat, infact I said to Linda, let's play hospital, you be a nurse and feed me..didn't work..lol

this morning we were up again at 6:30a.m.

I most likely was up before them all but stayed quiet, turned on t.v. and thought, wow, I must really be tired because everything was blurry, here they had covered the screen with a towel like material,I was starting to fret, thought for sure something was wrong with my eyesight..

This morning it was packing up, trying to compact everything..when all was said and done, the entire back of the truck was filled and Rita's hubby Gerry had put a storage topper on the vehicle and it was full..they had even taken out of purchases from their boxes for easy packing, suitcase size ziplock bags that the girls virtually sat on to get rid of the air helped make them smalled, yikes, suction does work, we were ready to leave...

Had breakfast and headed for the border..OMG even after throwing away some of our receipts (I even through a cheque away in error that Tamara had sent me, we decided to claim $2,200 for all 4, virtually we figured there was about $3,350. worth of goodies that came back to our side of the border..I did take photo's but too tired to post right now.

I managed to purchase 4 Christmas gifts..got myself some clothing and didn't go hog wild, but then, I'd been to Buffalo 2 weeks earlier and am going back again in another 2 or 3 weeks so I left most of the shopping to them..besides, I was in too much pain and too tired..know what a zombie feels like, I did manage to get to Joann's, bought about 20 yards of flannel but I was even too tired to shop and look around.. I was FINISHED!!!

We crossed no problem, nor was there a problem going over...we get to Toronto and someone mentioned GANZ, Janice and Stacey that was the shop that you guys that you might like to come over this year to purchase gifts..well it wasn't open Sundays' and thank the Lord BUT the outlet mall was so more shopping

just got home, going to sweep and wash my floors, have a hot bath and call it a night..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Get some rest Betty!

yes, Dad got the wonderful book Betty sent for dad! he loves it very much! he spends a long time, looking through at all the lovely photo's!
