She's about to...54

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Linda Kay, that is so sad, such a hard time for them I am sure.

Debra, are Kaitlyn seed pods? The one seed pod I have is huge also and just growing, it is almost scary! rofl.

Fruity that was NOT nice of your neighbor, heavens and once you get woke up that way you can't get back to sleep and hard to get your heart back in your chest....

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Okay, My so came ovr and helped me get things re-arranged in the very back of the basement where we "store" stuff. ( actually it was just all piles of crap) and then he cleaned out the garage. I have two nice big warm shop lights I ususally set up when I am rooting or seeding for a few ours to "warm" the area up more. I can't find them. good grief, I have looked every where three times, even under the bed in the pink room. Joe is asleep so I have to wait until tommorrow night to locate them. This just drives me mad..
Kaitlyn is the brug who flushed all summer long. she is the one with the long trumpet and long tendrils and turns dark almost red. her scent is divine. I want to make cuttings of her, but the buds are on the tips of her two branches.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Debra, I wish I had the time back I spent looking for things, I would have another lifetime I am sure. It is amazing how things can just disappear into the thin air. I think the outer space people come borrow my stuff and then bring it back when I don't any longer need it, because that is when I find it right under my nose...rofl. Debra the one fat leaf I sent you in your swap box is probably Graptoveria Fred Ives. Just stick it in dirt and it should root for you.
How exciting new blooms starting up.
OM I forgot to tell you all I went to HD and they had their orchids that were no longer blooming for 2.50, I bought all four of them! One has a stock that is getting ready to set buds if I didn't freeze it off yesterday dragging them from HD, work, Moms, to my house! So excited. I now have 7 living orchids...yeahhhhh. We won't talk about the ones who met an untimely death....:(

Ditto this one Happ. My Mom and I have this discussion at least every other day. I spend more time looking for stuff I think I have only to finally remember that I got rid of it somewhere along the line. My Grandmother never and I mean never threw out anything. I guess being a new Mom in the depression did that to her. The thing was she knew where everything was up until the day she died. Didn't matter what barn or outbuilding it was in. If I had her kind of storage I wouldn't throw things out either. :))

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

I think you are right about growing up in the depression, I see lots of folks my Moms age that just can't get rid of something even unmatched plastic lids... ;) one of my pet peaves. Hope I NEVER experience anything like that.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

I swanny half my life has been spent looking for something that's either been donated, thrown away, or packed away. A pack rat I am, proud to be in a weird way, and must have gotten the tendency naturally from my parents who were both young during he Great Depression. We ate whatever grew in the gardens or occasionally slaughtered one of my Dad's prized Black Angus that roamed the fields. The fresh brown eggs were the best -- loved that old barn -- but when one of the gals quit laying, look out, she was fried chicken on Sunday. My Mom canned, made jams and jellies, and lined her jars on shelves in my Dad's storage building. There were two chest freezers out there full to the rim, and an old fashioned Frigidaire refrigerator with a pull handle recycled from our kitchen that Dad used to store his seeds in mason jars.

Pet peeves? Where to start! One of my biggest ones is waiting in line. I've heard if you live 60 years, you will have spent one year of your life waiting in line or parked in a traffic jam.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Quote from joeswife :
Thanks, Faye, I will have to look and see what we have that is different. I don't see a Kaitlyn on there or a Dola, Flamenco and Cherub. ( on your list) . will get those to you beofre spring, along with hibiscus. You also have to grow some of the beautiful morning glorys ( just three that I favored this year) they are not invasive and have variegated leaves and huge blooms. I am making seed bags for all you guys for Christmas . I want you to see and enjoy the beauty of those this next summer. That includes the Lobata. I do not have a Serendipity, or a yard sale yellow.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Went to our local year round nursery, look at this soiless plant ball hanging from the ceiling. The colors are amazing and that is going on my Christmas list. I told some other the poinsettas were amazing so many different colors and sizes from miniature to really really ruffled. Should of taken a pic of those.

I bought 2 Christmas cactus, white, and salmon, now I have 4 colors red, lavender (at least that is the way it was marked at the nursery looks pink to me).

Ok Debra you inspired me I went to the junk/antique store and found this old ceramic rolling pin with an opening that I am guessing was for crackers, but I have put an herb in it and am going to give it to a friend....must say I am a little proud of myself for thinking outside the box. This friend is a giant cook and cooks with herbs all the time and a gardener. All I have to do is keep it alive un Christmas...rofl. This is not the picture I wanted to post I had a better one. Did you all know you can't remove the picture or at least I can't figure out how....holey moley don't ever mess up the picture and post the wrong thing! rofl!

Joyce can I be your friend??? ;0))))

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

rvnsbrk, you are so funny, but I have only been creative once so I'd be on the look out for another friend with more imagination...rofl.

I invited Cville and some others over to from the swap house plant/tropical. They were worried we were a closed group and might get testy if newbies popped in, but I assured them you are all sweeties and heck if you all let me in......welll...... ;)

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Hi all..... just standing in the corner peering in for a look see

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

I am seeing a lot of Brugs I don't recognize the name on that are being cut back. If you have some starts to send out, if you were dmail me I will let you know if I already have it or not. I've gotten some great starts from Debra and theraglady and other great DG friends. I just started getting starts of these and am already obsessed by them. LOL I am envisioning my yard encircled in Brugs.

Crit

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi Patti. We're a lot friendlier than looking at spider webs in the corner. Tell us about the plants you like to grow.

Don't you dare say you've only been creative once, happ. You showed us beautiful container gardens this year. You know I want those big pretty pots...lol Hubby's been working on a back deck this week and thought what a waste of Quikrete when he set the posts. Instead I could have made a few stepping stones with Canna leaves. The grasshoppers weren't too bad this year making hole punches and so many of them were over 2' long when I chopped the stalks.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

I'm really interested in the Brugs this year. I like flowers that smell nice/sweet, hummingbird and butterfly attracters and hosts, scented geraniums, scented/flavored herbs, cannas, bright shade flowers, roses. I guess that is it in a nutshell.

~smile!~

Crit

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh that is great! i love scented geraniums, too... i grow a lot of fragrant night bloomers around the patio and brugs open at night..
we just got back from our date nite.. we to see a movie called The Expendables. It has every action star you can think of.. arnold swartzs, sly stone, bruce willis, eric roberts, were just a few of these "SPIKE " channel for men type movie. I had a ball. then he took me to walmart, got some new kinds of bulbs for the basement nursery.

son came over and finished cleaning and organizing the garage and now my car fits in there YIPPEE!!

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Now that's quite a feat ... I can't imagine a garage that my car actually fits into. LOL!! ^_^

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Same here Built a 2 car Garage Can barely get Margaretts car in it Anyone need any BEDS I Have 4 in there
3 fairly New Less then 6 mo old ea . I Know I Can donate to good will , & It is funny How People will go to good will & Pay them $100-$200. for what I give for free to them but will not pay that much at a yard sale
why is this .

anyway I have to go back over & Help my friend with her Neighbors estate sale packing things up for storage
anyone here into LIGHT HOUSES , DOLPHINS , BEARS,SWANS< CATS, DOGS, GEESE, DUCKS,
Let me know I Have Picture of them & They are going very cheap Plus postage .

i CAN SEND YOU THE LINK IF YOU WANT TO SEE THEM
have to leave here about noon to go pack so you all have a great day

OH & Welcome to any new commers

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Welcome welcome all you newbies.....glad to hear from you.

Went to a craft show Friday and I bought my DGD a ruffled tutu, wings, and a head band all that match, it is shocking lime green and so girly girl. Can't wait to give it to her she will be so cute. Think I will try to find ballerina slippers, tights, and body suit...she will have so much fun fluttering around....she is the perfect age 4 and just too cute....sound like a grandma don't I.

Really warm here today with some rain and really windy as usual. I bought a beautiful pot of pansies at the nursery and I hope they can stand up to the winds. They look pretty good today so far. This is the first time for me and pansies.

Well Crit you are in the right place about brugs. Oh yeah when I posted above about the brug and the huge pink bloom I need to change my mind, that is not Pink Beauty, my pink beauty I got from AuntB has a green wire where the tag use to be before the wind blew it off, so I don't know what that one is.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

deejay...... i do lighthouses. Just let me know!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Deejay, my Mom loves cats, let me know where I can see them or post the pics. Thanks.

I don't think I have been able to park in the garage since I got married actually. Even when we built this house we built a huge garage but I still can't get a car in it unless it is one he is rebuilding...rofl. Last year was a tuff year to be outdoors since we had a ton of snow. Sides the dogs sleep there and I would have everyone up.....now they hear me moving around but don't make a peep. They wait for DH to get up. I would rather scrape snow and ice than to contend with all those guys in the morning....I would never get to work... ;)

Been spraying everything with soap & water trying not to get spider mites. Between ee's and brugs it is a constant battle in the winter.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

We moved here in Dec of last year. I have one side of my garage that I can get MY car in. DH car sets outside. He wants me to go through the boxes that are left out there, and I want him to put up the shelves before I do so I have a place to put stuff, but he wants me to go move the boxes before he puts the shelves up. Sound like a vicious circle??? YUP.
~smile~

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Good Morning Ladies! Coffee is on, but have to take orders for breakfast, so holler up. Joe cleaned off the patio and mowed the leaves yesterday before BBQing us steak, then he also raked the garden plot area getting ready for the fall turnover, and he found a huge Yukon Gold spud left over, so I cooked it for him. Yesterday was a wonderful day and we are so used to children here.. Now it is like, hey, I had a great time with you today.. and when the kids are here it seems like it is totally different. Just sayin'
Joyce, your niece will love it and will prolly wear that outfit to bed. My college girl used to have a pretty pink tutu and tiara and plastic pink barbie shoes. she wore them to bed half the time until something either tore, got bent or broke.
I can identify with the Grandma like activity... it is fun to spoil a child in the family. That age is a magical age for being around a little girl. The squirrells are all outside waiting for their breakfast so guess I will go do that now and check out the cold feel. Supposed to get up to a record high of 73 today.
Oh, My garage is a one room garage that is 58 yrs old, like me. ugh

I have some coming from Dahtzu. Since I'm new to them, I'm going to keep my collection small for now, but thank you so much for thinking of me!!!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Maggie, when you find out how easy and fun it is to grow brugs, you will find it hard to keep a small collection.

I know I said I was going to downsize. I know I said I wasn't going to be able to continue these
Gardening Pleasures. Going to back Surgeon for consult the 9th of December. Had the MRI done last week. Good thing DH and DS are so kind and thoughtful of me. I would go mad if I couldn't take care of my brugs.

This is a morning glory I grew from seed called Argeyia Wallachi.. I cut it back and hung it up. Now it has some new leaves forming. I can't wait to see the blooms on this one someday.

Thumbnail by joeswife
Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Good morning Debra. I'll take a Western Omlet with cheese please.

You sent me some morning glory form 'the back fence'. What color is that? Have you had good luck in starting clematis from seed? Do you know what color the ones you sent me are? I have a pink and a purple one that are just babies, but have grabbed a few seeds from them.

I have a 3 granddaughters 6 and under. They love to do the dress up stuff!!! Soooooooo cute.

What did you have the MRI and surgeon appointment for? Been there, done that, couple of times!!! ........ so glad I did. :-)

Patti

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi Patti, the north fence morning glorys were a mix of Scarlet O Hara, Jaimie lynn, Rebecca. Grandpa Otts, Blue Denim , Pink, and a very pretty Pure white. I was trying to get a red, white, blue look. The clematis seeds are from Sweet Autumn, and is a vigorous climber and bloom in fall white small star flowers smells sweet. I love vines. Drives everyone mad with all my vines. You can see the north fence by going to my thread in the morning glory forum, my backyard adventures thread. There might be some cypress vine, messina creeper, and some gloriosa daisey in that bag. I just collect everything at once in a hurry .
I injured my back in June. I usually re-bound, but this time I did not. As long as I take it easy, excersize and don't try to overdo, I am okay. It is the night time that it hurts the most to try to sleep.

I will be okay. I'm young.

This was last weekend, after son helped. It looks all different now.. well , only de-cluttered. Can't wait for my sister to get here, she is gonna have fun.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Parking in the garage??? Now that is a novel idea.

Just managed to get on today. Been out doing leaves and covering lawn furniture etc. DH hurt his back yesterday morning playing golf, so I'm on point for all the heavy lifting right now.

Maggie I didn't forget your brug that I am sending. Just didn't want to do it the end of the week. I think I will also wait for this week to go by since it is a short postal week.

Debra got a question for you. I was pulling up my four o'clocks this PM and they had tubers attached. I saved them. Will they start new plants??

Off to the shower and then I have to bake some bread for dinner.

Welcome to all the new faces. The more the merrier.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

"we built a huge garage but I still can't get a car in it unless it is one he is rebuilding" Our motorheads need to get together, happ. I lost my side of the garage to a 30 something year old.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Oh Debra, I sure hope they can help you with your pain. I am such a whimp when it comes to surgery and stuff but I am sure if the pain was bad enough...I would. Keep me informed on what is happening with you. Suppose if you had it in winter maybe be all better by summer, but you will have to do what they tell you...... ;)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Neener, they will come back after winter, so you don't need to pull them, but yes, plant the tubers in the ground or a pot now. They like to be wintered over outside. Mine I bring inside get leggy with no blooms. I start seeds inside to get a jump on sprig, but will have hundreds of plants come spring, since I didn't catch every seed that fell out.

GO CHIEFS! ( we won) thank Goodness. Hubby is ecstatic.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Joyce, I will be okay I am sure. After all the other surgeries I have had in the past, I am a real re-bounder. I kiped some small coreopsis seeds from my sis in laws today when I went to visit. They are native and going to put them in my native Kansas plant flower bed.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Gooooooo Chiefs!!!!!! Waaaaaahooooooo. Just really ticked off at our CBS affiliate here, they show the lousy stinky Cowboys games over good games, no matter who it is. I've written the station twice and never received a reply. Go figure.

I hurt my back at work in August '04. FINALLY in December '07 Workmans Comp agreed to do my surgery. By then it was much worse. Vertebrae all gone. Shaved bone off my hip to separate the vertebrae, then fused L4, L5 & S1. In December of last year, had to have my neck done on C4, C5 & C6. From the same accident, but Work Comp would never address my neck, because my lawyer would never pursue it. I was ticked.

Use ice packs Debra. I use to go to sleep on them. Felt soooooo good.

OMG you guys, well I am glad you are better Crit and just know Debra will be great when it is all done. Just sounds so scary.

Fruity, my competition currently is older than me...rofl. Course that is due to change at any given moment....LOL

Debra I have looked on a bunch of forums for the picture you posted of the plant you sent me that was hanging and beautiful but I can't find it. I took the one you sent me and put it in an upside down pot someone had given me. Did that about a week ago, I can't turn the pot up yet tho cause they said I had to wait two weeks. Can't wait to see it hanging. Also somewhere you asked me the name of a plant I sent you, is it the pink and green twrilly thing? If it is I don't know the name, but I think fotv just bought one maybe, if it is the succulant one It's a Crassula, probably C. capitella. You make starts by cutting off a section, letting the end dry off, and then putting it in soil which drains very well. Don't water for a week or so.

We have leak somewhere from the outside to the inside, doesn't happen all the time just once in awhile in one little spot. DHhas the hose and pouring water all over the outside walls....you know nothing good is going to come of this.....yuck....tonight around 2 am I figure the water will be gushing all over the place inside and we still won't know where it is coming from......

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I trust everyones' backs will be okay. I know that must be painful. Ugh! Keep us posted.

Hey, I just found something else still blooming (a little). New puppy is the next door neighbor's.
