Happ I am so glad I read your note about using your electric skillet last night. I am cleaning out cupboards in the garage today and I came upon mine which hasn't been used in a million years. I was on the way to the trash with it and the light bulb came on. It will be perfect for using when we are on generator power here. I have 2 outlets in the kitchen that are on the genny and I'll be able to plug that in and do anything I want. When they hooked it up to the house I was more concerned with being able to run the water, the well and the fridges so I didn't get the stove put on there. The microwave is on and I figured I'd use the gas grill if I needed to. But now...I can do anything in an electric pan. Thanks!!
Hey no problem...rofl, my stove is now in the garage, been without one before and got really creative when we were building the house. Big mistake one time was cooking hamburgers on it outside (too lazy to mess with coals) turned it off cause someone stopped by. Our big old golden retriever waited til the hamburgers cooled down and then ate them all...should of seen the look on my face for a second til I saw his smiling face...rofl. That and a crock pot and I am good to go for awhile
edited to say we were just looking at generators yesterday, hope we never need one and we have been pretty lucky but I really think we are pushing our luck being out in the country.

Yeah Happ we went a long time without one. Last winter when we were without water, heat and power for almost 3 days that sold us on the idea. We've only had to use it a couple of times this summer during storms, but it is nice to know it's out there when we need it.
Ok you bruggie addicts I am mailing out to dahtzu, debra, deejay, a start of the no bloomers brug. Some may even have started rooting....anyone else?
I know nothing about this brug except that another DGer started it from a seed pod she did and I have never gotten it to bloom. So that is it. I had to chop it I just didn't have room.
I have snow cone blooming in the garden room! It is so cute. Will pic it.
Our camper, still in the shop, is generator-ready but don't have one. I sure do miss using the extra fridge and freezer though. We're on the same page since two of my favorite appliances, especially in Winter, are using an electric skillet and the crock pot. Hubby opened the wood stove door today and couldn't believe the cast iron pot my Mom gave me was in there. It'll make a mighty fine pot of ham and beans if and when we lose power.
You had a couple of nasty falls last year, Susie, and don't want you landing on your keister again when your snow flies. When I took a walk with a cup of coffee this morning, the gardens still look so good. It's amazing so many plants are still blooming but til last night we'd only had a handful of light frosts. A few Cannas in the front row were nipped by Jack Frost last night. And crazy as it sounds, I'm watching a scape just loaded with buds on D/L "Wild Horses".
Right off he bat this morning, I needed scissors and a letter opener when the mail came, next I needed my tape measure (hate borrowing hubby's tools), then I scrambled trying to find tape and mailing labels. It sure was a lot easier stuffing supplies into boxes yesterday than it was after facing the topsy-turvy mess after digging in the boxes. After putting the desk goodies back in place, after lunch I planted Amaryllis bulbs from the co-op, been wanting to do that for over a week and noticed several already had little green tops. Anybody want a bowl of chicken noodle soup with veggies and cheesy bread? I made a big pot before doing some Christmas shopping online.
Edited to add: If you have an extra cutting I'd like to try it and am glad to reimburse your for postage.

Susie, came home to your box today, thank you.. I hope I can do a nice plant with it.. love the 4 o clocks, will get you some brug cuttings out next week.
Joyce, I can't wait to see your snowcone, mine did not bloom this year, and four of my 6 seedlings I grew from seed did not bloom either, and I am hoping they will this coming year.
I can't imagine not using both of my electric skillets, sometimes I have them both going at once.
my crock pots are in continual use all year round.. love those things.
I guess if I had to , I wouldn't miss the stove, but I would miss the oven.
I have too many piles and too many boxes of crap.. every time we get ready for company, my organized pile of boxes and seeds and mailing and tagging stuff gets moved and then I can't find anything.
I am so sad about my NOL, I feel like a plant killer..
Susie got your nonbloomer ready to send and I recevd my beautiful brug today, it is beautiful. I didn't realize it was varigated how excited I am.
Fruity I will send you a start of the nonbloomer, hope someone gets it to bloom...LOL I wanna see what it looks like.... I understand I am the same as you about not wanting to use DH's tools. I have two sets of tools, one in the garden room and one in the back of my car. Course I have 3 sets of cutters for plants and tonight I couldn't find any! That is so annoying.
Debra forgot to take pics I will during the 10oclock news. Watch DWTS now and then Castle...rofl. I am killing brain cells by the thousands but it is nice not to think.....
It has taken at least 10 commercials to get this done...rofl.
Happy to hear Vag Brugs Arrived safely. I Have to ask Is it better to use room temp water for plants or cold out of tap ???
I have to buy water for the plants for i have soft water here & Even i do not like to drink it . for i think it is still salty even if you filter it . & I do not want to kill my plants so i buy the distilled water is that ok to use . ??
Deejay that is what I use in the garden room because the dehumidifer runs constantly and I empty on the plants and they don't seem to mind a bit. I was in hopes nonbloomers would go out today but I didn't make it at lunch cause my day was so great I didn't get lunch...oh well.
I am sure on one of these forums which I meant to do on this one about not making it to the po....those folks are going to wonder about me....luckily most of you are on those forums so you already know......
fotv, you can have a nonbloomer. It is a good strong plant, just bloomless for me.
Everyone.......I have lots of cuttings , anyone can have, or will have after I cut these into 6 to 8" pieces. (picture) They grow so big in the ground, just love them.
This is my garage now....smells so good. I have Yard Sale Yellow, My First White, Pink Beauty and one more (brain rot again) blooming. Going to Myrtle Beach in the morning and will cut these up next week. Have many I haven't named but will do so when I get back.
Faye I Would like any that you have to share I Still have Yard sale Yellow but the other one you sent didn't make it not sure what i did wrong with it . so I would be happy to get any others & send you postage .
well off to watch a movie you all have a great evening .
susie
Susie, you are more than welcome to at least 1 of each. I will cut them the length of a med. flat rate box and will really pack it full.
Will let you know when I get back, and they will be rooted.
Please take care of YOU! Take it easy we need you around here.
I will post a complete cutting list next week.
AYF, Faye
Debra, Deejay, and dahtzu nonbloomers are on their way. Only problem dahtzu I don't think I told you what it was or anything, but it is the nonbloomer if it is from Joyce.
Fruity yours is going out tomorrow.
Dahtzu, I would like a yellow and white. Did you get the pink from AuntB? Debra is that the one AuntB gave us? I can't remember the name of the second one she gave me. I know I got Versi Peach from AuntB and the other is pink....ughhh, cant remember the name! Dahtzu when you remember the name of the 3rd let me know so I can see if I have it or not if that is ok.
peach versi is one that bonnie gave us, as well as Pend Pink. Joyce.. I lost my PB when I gave it away, but have two PV's.
Do morning glory seeds, need to dry on the plant, before I pick them! There are several areas, that look like a big seed forming, and I don't want to lose them, I would like to keep them for next spring.
Gonna go back and look I know Bonnie told me 100 times what that pink was called. Do you need a start of it?
she gave us kylies pink too.. is that who you are talking about?
No, don't think I have ever had that one. I am sooo bad with names. I will find it I know I kept it somewhere. Let's see would I have put it in the DG journal....oh no that would of been way too simple....rofl.
she gave us cupids blush I think, cassies curls? hmmm now that is going to bug me..
Oh My Now You Gals have done it All that Dirty Talk About Brugs Has me on the edge of my seat Sounds as if I Will have to do daily work outs all winter so that I Will be able to Carry these heavy Oh Plants IN & Out Each year ,
Holly Smokes , Would you all Keep an eye out for a GOOD LOOKING GARDENER For me .
well i need to get into town for a few things this morning Little foggy out so just waiting for it to lift
you all have a great day .
susie
Susie "gardener" is the key to that good looking guy cause if he doesn't garden he won't understand.
Thanks Debra, they are about half that size, and still green. it is supposed to be 80 most of this week, so I don't think we have frost anytime soon!
Gee LK think I Will come visit you for the winter :) well carolyn just called me to ask if i will take her to
BINGO I Didn't take her last week . so got to get myself around here you all have a great evening .
susie
BINGO! gosh I miss playing that.. have fun!
Linda, 80????? Really?? LMAO you luck!!! my poor heavenly blues are still blooming outside, last ones blooming. I do have buds on the moon vines down stairs. I am very excited about my stictocardia the most, it is covered with buds.
I read somewhere you weren't feeling well or something Linda, are you okay?? Hugs for you, my dear friend.
Susie, I want to send you some brugs from me.. as soon as I get my trades done this weekend, I will get some off to you, and that goodlooking gardener guy can help us both out.
This is my christmas cactus from my boss last year, it has buds now.
Talk about bad, I haven't thought about starting a DG journal, just have scribbled notes on a pad that lives on my desk and a baggie full of plant tags.
Hubby went hunting this morning and planned to go back this evening, but it was such a warm afternoon, he passed. It was 80 degrees at 4 o'clock...not that I'm complaining this time of year since our highs ought to be in the 60's. I felt like a lizard soaking up the Sun, knowing we won't have many more days like this. Max. my cat, is quickly becoming my new best friend and follows me everywhere. He thinks he's an inside cat and kept my feet toasty last night. He's at the back door meowing again and just might have to sneak him in.
happ, I'm starting to understand how much havoc a Lab puppy can wreak. Today mine destroyed pretty much every pack of seeds I've been saving. Then I noticed several Hostas had been dug up, and if that wasn't enough, first thing this morning she met me at the back door with an Iris in her mouth.
I am doing fine, just busy taking care of Dad! He can be demanding at times, and it just makes one very stressed! I just about have him on our schedule, so that will help! He does not like to go to bed, because he had his first stroke during his sleep, and he is afraid he will have a nother one!
I told him if he does not go to sleep, I will get Moms frying pan out!!! LOL!!! The Dr, has him on ambien when needed!
I am off to bed, talk to you all later!
Oh Fruity, I can just see that. Poor Max wants his mommy... your puppy sounds adorable, even if he does dig up the flowers.
Linda, I am sorry, I wish I could help you, I know how it is. I will just say prayers for you to be strong and "firm" with your dad. Older parents can be stubborn, but Older men are just plain Hard to take care of, dad or not. *hugs to you*
Oh fruity, I can so identify with the sweetie lab....can't tell you the number of times Sam helped in the garden.....if they weren't so darn innocent and loving I probably would of .....rofl, but he would look up with those sweetie eyes, which was a good thing....rofl. I can tell you my Sam has stayed out 24 x 7 this year and really has I guess grown up, so there is hope if you can survivie. The only thing Sam still does that I have had to control was he likes to get behind my hydrangea and dig a nice spot to lay down, so I have put chicken coop fencing back there, otherwise this summer he has been really good, thank goodness. So hang in there.....
Linda Kay, I can identify with you also. It is a real test some days. Then I "try" to think how it would feel to be in their position, cause I am sure one day I will be. Course it takes alot on certain days to muster that up...rofl. Losing "my" time is the hardest.
Deejay hope you won big at bingo! Everyone needs more mad money...rofl.
Went to the eye doctor yesterday and they dilated one eye. Now talk about a strange feeling when I was driving home. Everyone have a fun day.
I think our warm spell is coming to an end....oh I want 80 degrees!
No Big Win But i did win back my MONEY :) So it was a nice night out .
well just got 3 loaf's of bread out of the oven & Hot cinnamon rols are ready for anyone who would like to caome for afternoon snack :))
or coffee in the am is also fine :)
going back out to burn brush back later
How I feel for for you taking caring of your Dad, LK. Your Dad and step-mom, Susie. And your Mom, happ. My 90 something year-old granddad, had very little health problems and lived with us when I was a teenager. His rules were simple. Breakfast at 5, lunch at noon, supper at 6, lights out at 8, and the phone better not ring after he'd gone to bed...lol My Mom worked 1st shift and busted her tail taking care of him. Oh, more than a bath every other day, she was wearing out his skin...lol I swear he was the orneriest man I've ever known and vividly remember how he'd use his walker as a prop. When he thought no one was watching, he'd lift it off the ground and high step it to his favorite chair under one of the oaks. Sad, he was the only grandparent I ever knew and left me with a bad impression of what a granddad should be. How did you son's girlfriend like her quilt, LK?
She loves it!
Sorry your grandpa was angry!
Deejay if I can break even I figured I won...rofl. Infact if I don't lose all my money I figure I am a winner...LOL Well maybe if I didn't lose anymore than I planned I am a winner...rofl....
Don't you wonder what your Grandparents were like when they were young? I remember my Mom being silly, laughing, so much energy, could do anything and so pretty. She was so much fun, but her G-grandkids never knew her like that. I can't imagine being in my Moms position. Having people talking to you like you are 5, not listening to you, having to leave your home, friends either moved away, or left this world, dependent on someone most of the time. Seems so loney even if your family is with you. So many people don't want to listen to their old stories and their life doesn't seem to have any new stories to be told. No one to relate to. Dependent on everyone else for what seems like everything, according to their schedule not what you want. Course I sadly know how difficult it is to be the care giver. Ok now that I am depressed...just kidding...rofl.
Debra, I didn't remember if I ever posted a pic of snow cone in bloom. She is a small one but with lots of blooms.....
Thats a pretty one, is it white? My betty Marshall is white and is in full flush right now...
She will be the next one to cut back. *sigh* Everyone is getting cut back so I don't have to keep up with their yearning to be outside.
Morning everyone! Coffee is hot, and we have fresh monkey bread for breakfast!
COFFEE & CINNAMON ROLL On The counter also help yourself :) Please so they won't go to my hips :(.
Another very nice day today so i Hope to plant a few seeds & Collect more . Not sure what all is out there .
Guess I Need to get another coffee & Go check my mail :)
Oh Yummy!! Cinnamon rolls and Monkey bread! I've got the French Vanilla creamer for the coffee!
My mom used to make monkey bread when I was little. It was a pull apart cinnamon bread. Are you talking about the same thing? Do you have a recipe?
